[Q] How did this setting change? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Up until today every time I held down the power button the choices were "reboot, recovery and poweroff" today they changed and I don't know how or what I did. The new choices are "silent mode, airplane mode, choose profile, reboot and power off.
I'm running eng bootloader and cm.7.0.3 with the newest radio. What did I do and how can I change it back? Could it have been when I deleted old backups on the sd-card in the clockwork folder?
Thanks in advance

I believe you, but I have been running CM7 for 2 weeks now and everyday up until today I had the three options with one being recovery. They must have come from somewhere. And making no changes over the last couple something must have made them change this afternoon..

Your right I was mistaken it did not say bootloader it said recovery. Thats the tab that is no longer there that I am 100 percent positive was there. I don't know how it got there but I know it worked as I used it a couple times. It's no big deal, I was just curious if it was a setting I changed somehow that made it disappear.

Why does my phone shutoff?

Rooted my Hero and it doesn't matter which custom Rom I've tried(Fresh, Damage, others) my phone will shut off most of the time it goes into sleep. I don't know its off until I go to wake it up by hitting the end button. When I restore back to the stock Rom(still rooted) it works fine. I do a wipe and a Dalvick wipe prior to flashing. I'd like to get this figured out so I can use one of the nice Roms. Thanks.
If you're running A2SD and you have the Dalvisk on a slow sd card you phone can reboot or shut off. Try moving it off of the SD

I am not positive what A2SD is. I have a new 8MB SD card that came today. If I pop that in what will happen. Should it be partitioned? Thanks.

Thank God I thought I was the only one. I searched but didn't see your thread. Weird problem.
Same problem here too since the new leaked 2.1 test ruu from damaged. The only 2.1 Rom that works for my needs without rebooting every 3rd or 4th time I wake it using the end call/power button is Damagedtrev 2.01, the updated 2.05 Rom in his thread just makes my phone reboot as described above. I don't have a link to his thread, but it would be interesting to see if it worked on your phone too. Other's have claimed a battery shorting might be causing this issue, but I'm not buying that. I've looked at /proc/lastkmsg for clues, but nothing obvious there. I hope the official Sprint update doesn't have this bug or sprint will be giving me a new phone. /end rant
I can't seem to find Damagedtrev 2.01
So I can't test it.
Here's the link to the thread.
I cannot post links, because of some restrictions, but here is the last part of the url.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653622
here's the link for the full rom
Oops cannot post link to rom on 4shared, look in the bottom of the first post in the thread for a link to the full rom of DamagedTrev_v201
Please let us know if the rebooting stops for you. Maybe one of the devs could find where the problem is. Pretty please!! I could post any info needed.
Ok, downloading......stay tuned.
I really hope this 2.1 ROM works.....I'm kinda sick of 1.5.
Edit:
P.S. I'm reading that there is a battery issue....do you have that?

Hey good news. I put the new SD card in after backing up the other one, partitioned it and copied the files and folders back on then flashed ALOYSIUS and so far so good. I have woken it up about 10 times in a row. Looking good.
I had tried that perticular Rom before with no success.
Interesting.....I'm using the 2 gig sd card that came with the phone....I wonder if that is my problem?
Well it started again. This was right after setting my Gmail and POP3 mail accounts. It shut off on the first sleep after this. Hmmmmm.
I'm re-flashing now and not setting up the mail accounts. Will report back later.

Well, my friend. You were correct! full rom of DamagedTrev_v201 works on our phones for some strange reason. And updating his ROM caused the re-booting to start again. So whatever was changed from 2.0.1 to 2.0.5 is causing our particular problem. I'm not a dev by any means and don't know much about his stuff, but this is encouraging. Perhaps someone can figure out what it is?
I did notice that ALL the other 2.1 ROM's I have used that cause my phone to re-boot from sleep mode, is that when I hit the menu or power button to turn it on, the lights turn on, then reboot phone. With DamagedTrev_v201 that doesn't happen. The screen just pops up to unlock it.....don't know if that helps, it's just something I noticed.
Heres to crossing our fingers that someone can fix this!
P.S. I wiped and went back to Gumbo 1.5c as that 2.1 ROM was way to slow for me and I couldn't get bluetooth to work and audio would cut in and out.

It's a full reboot. The phone actually turns off when it goes into sleep. You don't know it's off until you hit the button to wake it up and the phone boots up.
Now for the good news. After re-flashing and not setting up the email accounts it was still shutting downconfused so I started looking elsewhere so I opened up what I thought was a likely culprit in Autokiller and none of the presets where selected so I picked Moderate and haven't had a shutdown since which has been over an hour. Fingers are crossed. I'll report back later.
That's it I've wasted way too much time on this. Phone works great on the stock ROM. They must have planted some devious anti-flash widget in this phone. I'll leave it rooted for now.
patkin, dude, I felt the same...I gave up on 2.1.
download, wipe then flash Gumbo-1.5c-BARE-signed.zip after it reboots, download and flash Gumbo-Sense-signed.zip.
You flash Gumbo-Sense-signed.zip over the Gumbo-1.5. No need to wipe or anything, it just adds to the ROM. Fast as hell and works PERFECT.

Glad to see your rebooting issue was fixed with this rom even though you went back to gumbo 1.5. In my mind, this just confirms that it is not a battery issue. I never use bluetooth and have never experienced any audio loss with this rom, but apparently even people on the same hardware and firmware versions have different problems.

Yeah, got my phone beginning of march 2010 and I also think there is something in the 2.1 test ruu or hardware that is keeping the phone from functioning properly with an altered 2.1 rom.
Just wanted to let people know what happened to resolve this. I went back to 1.5 then when 2.1 official came out last week I said what the heck if I can't enjoy a rooted custom 2.1 I'll try the official and guess what. Same problem as the other 2.1's.........phone shuts off randomly! Except this time they are replacing it with a new phone. Yeaaah! I'm probably going Evo now though since I found out I can get a new phone. Anyone need a new Hero?
I'm having the same problem.. One question. Does DarchDroid automatically move dalvik-cache to the sd

Hardware Instrumentation

Hi Guys,
I have a stock but rooted N1 on 2.2.1
I have a slight feeling that my power button is intermittently not responding.
Is there an instrumentation app or something y'all recommend to test hardware with?
I remember in cyanogen(on my g1) there was a spare parts app, which I think could do this. However, I am on a stock image.
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks!
i dont know how you could test the button. but i use quickboot app so i never ever have to use the power button. and of course i use cyanogen ROM so i get trackball wake so i never need the power button.

It's just a free app that does all your reboot, power off, recovery stuff for you so you never have to physically press the power button.
well only if you never run out of battery and never want to turn off you phone... but there its supposed to be a truck with that as well. just take our your battery and put it back in. repeat this procedure till your phone turns on. just read about this one though. haven't tried it myself...

The app let's you turn the phone off. The only thing it can't do is if you run out of battery which I've never done anyway and don't do that frequently but yes.
No I do not.
I used to mess with all that stuff with my g1 (since tmo was slow to update)
But I am stupid and happy with my N1 being stock (+root+adblock)
Any other options?
Like using adb to run some testing software or something

I can't unlock the screen with Gingerbread

I tried several ROMS on my Nexus, but there is a failure on all ROMS with Gingerbread. If the screen remains locked for a few minutes, I can not unlock it (do not turn on) and not let me restart or shut down the phone, I can only remove the battery and wait about 10/20 minutes to the phone automatically restarts.
I happened to CyanogenMod 7 (RC1 and RC2) and LeoGingerBread (both downloaded from this forum)

Thanks, in a couple of hours notice if I have failed the stock rom
I just tried the stock rom GRI40 and I was not locked, so I guess it will be the kernel in CM7.
Not having that problem at all on stock GRI40; by the way, i'm having an odd issue with GRI40 & Gingerbread. The time to auto-lock the screen uses to change by itself; i think it's on 2' by default, but i changed it to 30' on screen settings and also on Widgetlocker settings...well, once a day, the time changes to 2' again. Anybody else having the same issue? Ideas?
Sounds to me like more of a hardware failure. I have never had any problems unlocking my screen.
This has happened to me a few times.
Possible reasons:
1)bad custom kernel where the buttons dont work. (menu to unlock)
2)bad setcpu setting. i.e. max cpu at 300MHz when the screen is off
3)cpu pegged at 100%, If its at 100% for a certain amount of time the system auto reboots. Happens many a time with CM7 build 14 and words with friends for me.
Make sure u wipe. I've had stock rooted GB and many Cyan nightlys and RC 1&2 and never had this problem. Do you use trackball wake? Configure lockscreen settings in cyan settings. They also use gestures as well if the problem persists. Hopefully one of these options helps u out. BTW I usually wipe everything.

Phone will not sleep

Ok I just got the phone 2 days ago and before I rooted I had this issue were when ever I pressed the power button to put my phone to sleep it would turn in right way but after rooting and flashing royalginger the problem went away so I thought I was in the clear so I wonted to go back cuz I missed sense so I flashed royalglacier and the problem came back so now I'm back on royalginger aand was wondering if there is a fix for this or something

Perhaps readability of your question would improve if you used punctuation. I'm guessing you want the "instant on" capabilities of the stock ROM?
There is a setting on the stock ROM (or those based on it) called "fastboot" that you can enable. When enabled, the phone does not power off when the user selects power off. It just shuts off the display and radios. This is a poor choice of names for the function, as the phone doesn't boot at "power on", it's merely turning on the display and radios.
This "fastboot" should not be confused with the SDK's fastboot tool used with the bootloader. Really bad name they chose.
I had a similar problem with my macbook once. You'd put it to sleep, and it'll wake right up. Had to exchange it. But I digress. Anyways, its probably something to do with how your phone's hardware functions, or in this case, "malfunctions" with the sense framework. Since you got it just 2 days ago, why not just go ahead and exchange it?

I don't think he was talking about fastboot. I think he meant that whenever he's on sense and he turns off the screen, the screen will turn back on immediately.
If you've only had it for a couple of days just ho exchange it

Ok you probably solved your issue by now, but I found a solution and probably someone will read this looking for the answer so I have a possibility for you.
The only patch I have found for this was made by chrisch1974 one of the developers of the virtuous rom and was made for the virtuous unity 2.39 so it surely works for that rom, he also told me that it may or may not work on other roms with the same libui file as the virtuous unity rom, so you should try it, so here is a link for the rom:
http://www.virtuousrom.com/p/unity_23.html
and here is the link to the patch:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28766802/Virtuous/trackpad_disabled.zip
so go on and enjoy sense 3 without the phone waking up all the time and being annoying xD good luck!!
I don't know if this is related, but I had linkedin app installed for half a day and the screen wouldn't stop turning itself back on time after time.. As soon as I removed the app, it was fine again.

lots of freezin goin on up in here!

long story short i went from an old GB to an ICS. didn't care too much for it so i went back to this one. loved it but i noticed that when i went to reboot none of the options worked. also then noticed that it would freeze at other times too and the only way to get unstuck was to put it to lock the screen and unlock it.
thinking it was the rom i switched again to this one just a trial and error. well its doing it on this one too. but now i can't even unlock the screen.
unless im missing something, i am doing all this through cwm and doing a data wipe and cache wipe each time.
what else can i try to get everything rectified
edit: and no, my digitizer is not broken as it has worked for well over 2 years as well as when i had the ICS rom up until the past weekend!
But the digitizer can brick from one moment to the other. In my case, i flashed miui and my digitizer was broken after that. Before that all was fine.
What i did to find that out, was to reset the phone completly. What means, back to WM 6.5. It's just an idea to do another trial and error. If it doesn't work in WM 6.5 u're digitizer is nearly to 100% broken.
Sorry for my bad english. May i could help u

every time i hold the power button in to reboot/turn off it hangs. i can't choose any of the options. if i hit the back arrow it removes the options screen but is still hung. i can hit the power button to black the screen but then i have to wait about 10 seconds to unlock it. if i try right away its still hung. but if i wait the 10 seconds or so it seems to be fine.
i know its not a big deal since i rarely reboot/power off. and now that i have that app it works.

also after booting back up it reverted to monday june 18 8:32 am!

Hey, whilst it's great that you're trying to help, this is fundamentally wrong. This is an opinion based question but you're stating this as fact, which is misinformation and could cause confusion. Please choose your wording more carefully as the majority of ICS users DON'T have issues and I find it a tonne more stable than GB. Also overuse of emoticons

Since you say you aren't opposed to reinstalling the ROM, try that. If that doesn't work, try WinMo. I'm inclined to agree with Kameirus here, it sounds like a digitizer issue, and you shouldn't rule it out as a possibility just yet. Installing WinMo should be able to tell you whether or not this is your problem.

well i am on reinstall #2 of this exact rom. like i said since going to ICS a couple weeks ago this is my 4th rom within said 2/3 weeks. even up to the install of ICS i have had zero digitizer problems.
can i install winmo from cwm? if so does anyone have a link so i can give it a whirl?
ok reinstall #3 of that rom. this time it acted like the first time i installed it. the touch screen was responsive when choosing the options for installation.
the only thing i did was flash CWM 150mb instead of the 400mb i think was on there. not sure if that had anything to do with it but at least i would eliminate it.
ok up and running. i won't do any updates and see how it acts.
HA! well that didn't take long where's that winmo rom i can try out LOL!

Provided you have the right ROM for your device type (i.e. a TMOUS) then yes, it would work fine. I find his guides very good actually, much more noob-friendly than some of the ones here on XDA (general statement, not trying to say you're a noob or anything)
