Oh wow, so HTC is actually listening to consumers? I didn't think companies did that anymore... Kudos HTC, very awesome.

HTC is just on fire these days huh? This is pretty awesome!

Just saw the Engadget article. This is why I love HTC over Motorola, Samsung, etc. They listen.

Lord only knows what the community will be able to do with a dual core unlocked device . Hopefully, sometime down the line, VZW will get one. My upgrade still isn't for another year anyway. So by then, I expect to see some pretty awesome stuff.

That is freaking awesome! I was thinking my next phone wouldn't be an HTC (which sucks cause I love my incredible) but its on now.

thanks to everyone who brought this to their attention

I wasn't going to buy another HTC phone after hearing about the EVO 3D but, this just changed my mind.

terrific, i will stick with my HTC verizon g2!

great work HTC......another reason why i love you!

samesies...

Does this mean they will unlock the phones they already locked or just for future phones?

Would this mean that HTC phones would be able to be rooted easily or no root would be needed... I have no Dev skills that's why i ask..

Well you'll still need to root, but you can install new ROM's easily with an unlocked bootloader, and without a lot of painful work.
For us Incredible users, we've been pretty lucky to have the "unrevoked" program that automates the whole process- but a lot of other phones have to go through some pretty annoying and difficult steps in order to be able to flash ROM's.
I've also heard that Motorola has jumped on the unlocked bootloader bandwagon, after HTC announced they would be doing it.
All good news, big props to HTC for listening to customers and making the move.
Also another article if anyone is interested in reading more into the story:
http://www.softsailor.com/news/8094...ature-an-unlocked-bootloader-from-now-on.html

If HTC sticks to this policy and the carriers don't get all pissy with policies on rooted/rom'd phones on their network, I'll never buy another device unless it says HTC on it... Good move, HTC. The phones, after all, BELONG to us.

I love it.

That is fantastic news.

Welcome to the Revolution

This isn't exactly Dream related, but definitely Android related which is good for all of us, for those who aren't aware, sh!t just got real tonight as Verizon launched its first Droid(aka Sholes) commercial:
http://www.droiddoes.com
Not only is the commercial straight comedy in the best way possible(at the expense of Apple) but they keep it 100% real, no disclaimer required. I say bravo, wish T-Mobile had launched a campaign like this when the G1 rolled out, the commercial will play Sunday during the NFL games so people who missed it can view it in HD. Hey Apple, Welcome to the Revolution!
I was just watching that. Good for Verizon. Good for Android. I'll be sticking with my G1 and TMO but daddy has Verizon and he may be adding another line soon...
ilove it...Apple will "sauce" their pants
that was hilarious, i remember sir*mez saying something about that commercial last night.
Anyone notice that it says "DROID" is a registered trademark of lucasfilm at the bottom? Wonder if they're just allowing them to use the name or if there's more to it.
Would be funny if R2-D2 and C3PO ran android. I suppose R2-D2 would have a Hero rom and C3PO would have a motoblur rom, what with him speaking almost every language.

hey haykuro
long time, no see around these parts. good to see you are still around or maybe making a comeback now that the traitior is out in the open
yeah, Droid is a registered trademark of lucasfilm, so it's licensed but unless I'm getting Obi-Wan'd this is definitely the Droid I am looking for. The specs on it are awesome, and allegedly it's as thin as the iphone with it's sliding qwerty, can't wait till HTC matches this and throws it on good ol' T-mob.
looks like the htc dragon will be, or at least the phone they are suspecting to be the dragon. it has a keyboard too, that is what i am gonna go for
lets sure hope so..... but in case it is a bust we have thissss

ZWD. Zimbabwean dollars.
When the EVO comes out couldn't someone just download that ROM and then load it on to the HD2? I am sure some tweaking would be needed but aren't they close enough hardware that you could do that?

Why don't you just get an android device? It'll be a while before android is ported to the the hd2.
You have to prove you have $1,000,000.00 first.

Now you have to prove you have android.
We'll swap at the same time. On the bridge, just like last time.
we won't see android on this phone for a long time. you might as well get the htc evo and switch to sprint or wait until tmobile comes out with the htc desire (almost the same as the nexus one but with the sense ui).
yeah we will have to wait a while for 'droid to come to the hd2 and when it does... chances are it'll be far from perfect... still though.. would love to see it happen... dual boot!!! windroid! woooooo
Why didn't you just buy an android phone? What kind of sick mind buys the best wm phone to ever hit the street and then whines because its too hard and they want android? android will never come to the hd2. Return your hd2 and get a n1. You don't deserve this hotness!

Ok np. Thx for setting us all straight.
Sheesh..no one here uses different OS or ROMS on their phones, no one here buys a phone for its hardware and hopes for the geniuses here to improve on the stock software.
Glad you two opened our eyes..
android its not really my bowl of soup. just take away the 3g issues and bugs and more stable software and I will be the happiest man on earth.

HTC HERO trails in 2nd place to Motorola Droid in this AdMob metrics taken in May 2010 from 12.7 million Android phones in the AdMob network.
Wouldn't you want to keep your most popular phone up-to-date HTC and Sprint???

I don't see the Evo on that. Outdated chart is outdated.
They should count the eris with the hero

does anyone know how i can fix it?
i luv my hero =)

It's even more outdated then I though.
Point is, you can't say "your most popular phone," and then show an outdated chart, when they just released the Evo. The Evo is probably at or higher then the Heros level now.
Smart ass they won't have statistics until next month and the evo will most likely be up high on the chart. But just the fact that thehero is up this high really makes me wonder why HTC doesn't see a need to keep it updated.
After doing some looking around the list provided is the most current that is available regardless of the new phones that have been released. Kinda sad when this guy was trying to prove a point about HTC's and Sprints continuing support for one of its most formidable android devices and all anyone can do is knock him for it being an out dated list. Come on guys, if you are still using your Hero and plan to do so then cut him a break and agree to disagree. No matter how current the list is its not years old and it goes to show that us honored Hero users we are getting the middle finger from the big dogs and thats not cool. Wanna know why the droid surpassed the Hero? Cuz all of those god damn iphone loving ass bags that couldnt get it on VZW finally had something worth a damn. Plus not to mention all of the Apple cultist haters (myself included) that wanted badly to knock that damn swastika of an unholy iphone off its pedi stool.
The hero WAS the most popular phone until the evo came out and stole all of the thunder.

Well, until there are some statistics to prove it, as it currently stands, Hero is the most popular and most used phones HTC has out on any carer, anywhere and I also believe any OS.
I'm sure the EVO is going to be at the top next month but I wouldn't place my bets just yet. Don't forget that EVO is sprint only and hero has the GSM brother.
So once more... way to go HTC for not keeping your most popular phone up-to-date.

State of the Os Address

Just read a article that someone posted in the xperia arc forums, and it has a chart with all US carrier pre-froyo phones and how long it took to update to froyo once it came out in may...
Aparrently, only like 7 of 41 pre froyo phones were updated o.o
Andof the samsung family tree, the intercept is the only one to get the update.
I wish I knew how to post links, cuz it was an interesting chart and It shows me we're not alone in this plight.
And, honestly, atleast we got a semi-official froyo build out...the x10 owners are stuck with eclair and a statement from sony erricson saying how they feel the custom 2.1 is on par or better than vanilla ui lol

This link has some info on it. Some guy says you can get it in the Sprint store. Until we get other confirmation though, I call BS. Then again I've also heard Tuesday may be OTA, which may corroborate the above statement. Either way, it is all complete rumor and no sources have proven to be reliable.

Wow sasung is just circle jerking. I wanna know what's so different in the vibrant 4g that it has froyo but the regular vibrant doesn't.
If I'm not mistaken, the only difference is the hspa+ radio and ffc right?
And nah you definitely won't be ale to get it from the sprint store lol and I doubt it'll happen this Tuesday. They're just hanging the carrot infront of our faces, but I don't cre to follow it anymore. If they decide to cut the string and give us the carrot, I'm happy, but now I'm just indifferent when I see it.

[Q] Want to root my HTC Wildfire But i have the OTA 2.2 Update

Hello
I was wanting to root my HTC Wildfire running Android 2.2 but i dont know how to do it? Can somebody Please help me!
Thanks,

P.s.
The answer is, you can't. Get in line and wait unrevoked.

IMPOSSIBLE!!!!! .v.
I have been waiting for it for more than 3 months!!!!!
FXXX IT!
well... Truth be told it's getting really ridiculous.
Three months later and after some recorder succesfull cases of S-Off they didnt even so much as bother releasing any news on the progress.
I'm with everyone stating we shouldn't be demanding anything since its not a right its just something they do on their spare time but if they cant make it work at least give it out to the community to try.
After all, nobody started out knowing everything they had help from the rest of the android world like anybody would. Isn't it time to give something back? Even if its just an update on their progress.

It's true though, and the thing is no matter what device I buy, it always in the corner of the room not being able to enjoy the party.
Happened with iPod Touch 2G MC, had to wait for months to get jailbreak just because our devices were unique and we have different bootroms.
And now HTC Wildfire, I bought the phone after getting the news that HTC Wildfire will be getting Froyo update, but now stuck with it with no root. I should've asked them if there were any handsets left with 2.1 Stock in it. :\

Haha, I was in the same boat with my iPod Touch 3G 32GB bought last October. I clearly remember going to Chronic Dev's website every few hours just to check up on the progress of Greenpoison, and the anticlimax that was when limera1n was released.
Thankfully, had better luck with my Wildfire, although I had previously decided to get the 2.2 OTA just to check it out (Because, at the very beginning, I was afraid to root and all, since the guides seemed complex), I am glad I didn't.

No need to be so rude, everyone want's to know how the dev team is doing, and we all wait for the same answer. So we'll just have to wait and see.
