Edit: The wallpaper on my phone is a .png, but the one on here got changed to a .jpg. Attached in zip is the png wallpaper
When i set this wallpaper, and scroll through screens it freaks out on me. Attached in this order are: a screenshot of the part im using, the wallpaper itself, and a screenie of what happens. I posted the wallpaper so you could try it yourself, because i cant explain what happens
I think the wallpaper is just zoomed in a lot.
Here's a trick I learned.
Go to your browser on your phone, and click the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=608371&d=1306449981
Then press on the pic, and click "Set as Wallpaper".
It won't resize the image and it should work.

Not that im not grateful for you trying, but the .jpg that got uploaded to xda is different than the png in the zip. Is it because the .png is empty at the top that makes it do this? It'd probably help if you used it to know what im talking about. Hitting thanks anyways.

Lemme start over. The pic changed from png to jpg when i uploaded it, so it changed from an "true black" background behind the puzzles, to a gray background behind the puzzles. I could use the jpg that got uploaded here, but i dont like the gray behind it, and the png gives the "true black" that i like, but it seems the png likes to make a "ghosting" effect when scrolling. Png is in the zip in the op.

Hi Guys
Not had my SGS long but I wondered if anyone knew what the res should be for wallpapers and also why does the gallery seem to screw up all my pictures when I set them as the wallpaper!?
Thanks for your help
Use ES explorer.
Ok so Ive found the image in downloads within estrongs file explorer but I cant seem to find an option in the app to set as wallpaper anywhere?
Cheers.

Thats how Ive been doing it so far but that method is producing the really poor quality image on my 2nd screenshot.
I have also noticed that Flikie wallpapers app has no problem scaling full screen wallpapers but the default gallery app only allows me to select a small portion of the area of the whole image and then blows up that selected area to fill the screen, which looks bloody awful
1. Wallpaper size for SGS is 960*800
2. On your first screenshot, try to put one finger on one orange line and another finger on the opposite orange line. It should let you change the size of the piece of your image which will be use as wallpaper
(sorry for my poor english...)

Hello
I have tried that but I can only select a small part of the image. Perhaps I should try resizing my image
Cheers
EDIT - Just noticed that my image is only 320x480 anyway so now Im even more confused as to why it wont full screen for wallpaper.
wallpapers must have 960*800 for good results/sharpness
then chosen the size with the orange rectangle to the max
thats how it works

I have wallpapers in 1280x800. I try to cut them but after that wallpaper is very very poor quality. Same as in gallery after zooming...
Just found this, will give it a go and see if it cant make my pics a bit better.

While you're viewing a photo with estongs - just tap & hold for 2 seconds, and a "set as wallpaper" message will show up, tap it and viola!
Hey folks, I just extracted the boot image from the G2's bootanimation.zip file and thought I'd share. It's a nice, high-res picture, so it would work perfectly for a wallpaper or whatever.
I may try to create a desktop-size wallpaper from this later. If I do, I'll post it here. Enjoy!
Can you edit it, replace it and have it custom???? I did on my Mogul once lol so just wondering.
tks for the boot image capture
never have figured what size to resize images for wallpaper use on our phone - i've tried the 480X800 our screen is supposed to be, i've even tried simply adjusting the physical size, and gone down to 1.5" X 3.0"
no matter what i do, it will display a nearly rectangular image (horizontal on the long dimension) and then crop to the text portion of that image
i know i can expand the cropping square but still i can only get a horizontally oriented rectangle - and then when i install the captured portion as a wallpaper, the text "G2" is humongeous and pixelated
any guidance for the photoshop challenged? I've got adobe photoshop CS3
Try resizing it to 960x800 and tell me if it works right. The phones screen is 480x800, and the wallpaper scrolls 50% to the left and 50% to the right.
Sent from my G2.
Thanks!

I havent seen anyone post these here yet and they are awesome on the Venue Pro. I didnt make any of these they are just differnt transparent .PNG images I have gathered. The only way to get them on to your phone is to email them to yourself. Just open them up on your phone and apply as a wallpaper!
Update: Sorry I didnt get the PNG.zip image file up. Here it is! Enjoy!
View attachment PNG.zip
Just a few more wallpapers!

Transparent Wallpapers
How To Use
1. Click the Image showing the desired background
2. Email the image, that you're directed to, to yourself
3. Open email with phone and apply it as your background
note: the images you are directed to may appear to be absent of black or other colors, this is normal, nothing is wrong with the images.
Please zip the PNGs and attach the zip otherwise the forum converts it into JPG
The Zip has been attached with the PNG files! There are some pretty cool ones! Have fun!
My Transparent Lock Screens
Here's a few I made. Download them from the GE.TT filesharing site.

Strange, I don't get the transparency effect. Does having a screen lock make it not work with transparent PNGs?

That could be the problem. The lock interupts the transperancy for some reason. Sorry, have to chose one or the other.

If you have a lock on, you wont get a transparent effect. Kinda a bummer!
Just an FYI there are some killer Portal 2 transparent wallpapers on conflictinggamers.com http://conflictinggamers.com/2011/04/18/free-portal-2-windows-phone-7-transparent-lock-screen-wallpaper/
More wallpapers
If anyone has anymore ideas post them and I'll try to make more. Or, try out paint.net it's free and does a wonderful job.
Some of the walls paper are quiet nice.
I've added some walpapers. They are in my first post which is the third post here.
The transparency is completely pointless because it doesn't work with the lock screen - and I ain't going to use my phone without the lock.

Good for you. We had already established in an earlier post that the pin lock screen disables the transparencies. This goes without saying that the transparencies are not for everybody. Thanks for sharing anyway.

Hi all,
Trying to create a new wallpaper from a screenshot. So far can only create a small portion of the whole picture as wallpaper. Is there any earthly way to make those cropping thingies include the whole screenshot pic? So far I can only fit Kate Upton's face onto the wallpaper, but would like to get face AND boobs. Kate's pic without boobs is just not right. Seriously, any help much appreciated.

Try to crop out the clock/widgets/icons then try Google image search to see if the actual picture is on the interweb somewhere.
Thanks for the reply Stronger. Think I may have stumbled onto a solution. With the image in Gallery, I zoomed out making the image smaller. About the size of the cropping rectangles in setting the image as wallpaper. Hope this makes sense. I think the key is making a smaller image that will fit in rectangles.
Hi guys im not sure what you call it but its the effect which when we reach the end of the screen it will be highlighted pls check my attached screenshot.

I have no idea what aspect you hope to change. You really didn't describe it enough to narrow it down. Nor did you draw an arrow or something on your screen shot to point out what you are alluding to.
Also, not every nuance or sub feature on a phone will be in the phone settings. If Samsung tried ro do that, we'd have thousands of settings to wade through.
Anyway, the home screen page animation is called a transition effect. See if you like one of the alternates. Or do a search to see if a Themer has made some new ones more to your taste.
long press on an empty area of the home screen > Home screen settings > Transition effects

I think he's talking about the glowing over scroll effect where it bounces with a blue glow when you reach the end of a page. I think its baked into android itself but I could be wrong.
Tapped It!
If so, good luck to him. There is no option to disable that relected light effect. And it could take a lot of searching through decompiled packages to even locate, never mind change it.

Yes you're right. It will no doubt be buried deep inside the SystemUI.apk (pretty sure I saw the PNGs for it on an earlier android version when unpacking systemui), which requires that you're rooted and that you know what the hell you're doing. If you do decide to mess around with SystemUI then ALWAYS KEEP A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL!
The other problem is that I'm not sure Kitkat SystemUI.apk can be (easily) unpacked yet, let alone re-packed, due the the different Framework-res layout which changed drastically in the 4.4 kitkat update thus rendering programs like apktool useless. I might be wrong, they might have fixed it by now.
I guess if you're not changing any code in the systemui.apk you could always just try unzipping it using 7zip, search for the overscroll highlight png (probably in res folder) and replace it with a blank/transparent png of the same size/dimensions by dragging the new blank png into the ORIGINAL, "packed" systemui.apk opened up in 7zip.
Unless the PNG in question is 9-patched in which case you're screwed.....
....or just learn about 9 patching! Yay fun!
Agh confusing.

Might not even be an image. Watching the effect, the .png may only establish the page edge. The actual "scrolling" light reflection is a very simple effect e.g. fixed intensity, width, area on one axis. So it could be efficently rendered as a simplistic recursive shading equation if the programmer felt like doing it that way.

You're probably right as the last SystemUI I unpacked was Jellybean but even since then things have moved on leaps and bounds. But, the overscroll highlight PNGs definitely used to reside in SystemUI in earlier android versions.
I don't however doubt what you're saying, as the android Status Bar used to be made up of PNGs in systemui, that all changed in ICS and is now just lines of code.
Things used to be so easy to muck around with.
Overscroll PNGs are and always have been in framework res. You can change the color simply by replacing the 2 PNGs. Overscroll glow and overscroll edge. No decompiling needed. As mentioned above just drag and drop with 7zip. Dragging transparent versions in would effectively disable the effect

Nice one, sorry it's been a while since I've ventured into the depths of framework-res and systemui apks. Knew I'd seen them somewhere.
