I would like to play around with the USB host capabilities of the 7.7, but I currently don't own the adapter. I have got 2 USB female to female adapters, have you got any idea how to kick the tab into host mode without the official adapter?
hots cable
have a look at motorola xoom user forum, there are plenty of references to making your on host usb cable
It seams that the change to the MHL cable is to allow USB on Go with the same cable

there is a MHL adapter that gives you a male 11 pin micro USB to female HDMI so you can just plug a standard male to male HDMI cable from adapter to TV.
see:
Samsung Galaxy S III MHL to HDMI adapter
Does anyone know if this new adapter will work with the Galaxy Nexus, as well? Also, does it charge the phone--or at least keep it from being drained--when USB OTG is being used? I've been looking for a way to use USB OTG with a flash drive on my GN while also charging/powering the phone. USB OTG is a real power hog.
It should, but on mine it doesn't.
I've got a new MHL cable and a USB OTG cable in the hope I could plug my MHL into the SGS3, use a powered USB hub connected to the Micro USB on the MHL and then connect a keyboard and mouse into the USB hub, then connect the HDMI to the TV.
For me it doesn't work. I thought this was the whole reason they changed the MHL cable to the new type. Can anyone else confirm?
Logicalstep
can we get an update on this situation here? How
can we get MHL AND USB OTG?
My reading of the link is that the micro USB port has been repinned to provide USB on the go and not that the cable allows for this.On the mhl cable there is a female HDMI port and a micro USB ( both female) which must be used by the charger.
If the usb connection is also female type, we have to use a usb otg cable to get it work. But at the moment my phone also wont recognize any devices -.-' only mhl and nothing else.
I bought this adapter for 25 euros and want to have it working.
I also asked samsung on facebook 'bout this problem, and everything the told me:
Go support site...
very helpful.
I hope the will enable this feature in a future update.
AS everyone knows, USB otg does not work with our nexus 4. So I searched for a mod with that I can use it. I found the solution to connect an accupack with a micro USB to micro USB + normal USB . has anybody a link to an amazon product with that specification? Or which connection possibilitys do you all use?
According to this thread = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2238840, I need to have either a custom Kernel or ROM in order to able to use my newly purchased Plugable USB 2.0 to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN Network Adapter and Micro USB Host OTG Cable with Micro USB Power.
Unfortunately, I'm having a bit of difficulty finding any that support or include the drivers for my adapter. Does anyone know of any that support USB Ethernet adapters out of the box?
Hi.
Looking for a usb cable which will enable me to revert the shield back to stock. Currently getting cannot load in bootloader which I believe is down to the USB. Has anyone got one that they know works?
Hi Rlumby,
You have to use an USB-A to Micro-USB 2.0 cable. Don't connect Your shield with a USB-A - USB-A!
The 16gb 2017 model doesn't have a micro USB port so you will need a USB-A to USB-A cable.
Get off Amazon. That's what we all did.... Or bestbuy
This one works perfect
