The issue I have is interesting-my Exchange server will not work with the mail client in CM7, AleV4 as it tells me the phone does not support the credentials required. However, all Sense ROM’s work including the released Fresh 4.0.4 Beta (Gingerbread).
So, is there a way to take the .apk from Fresh (or stock) and use it instead of the one included in the other ROMS? I am not a newbie but am a rookie and when I rooted the phone before all of the easy methods, I had to use adb commands but all I had to do was follow instructions. It seems like I could get a working app from one Rom to the other but not sure how and if the mail apk is different because perhaps it resides at a different level?
I have CM7 nightly #87 and do not have any problems with my Exchange account.

OK... I flashed CM7.1(RC1), and also the latest Gapps...
Both of these were already on my SD card from prior to my resetting the phone back to Froyo....
SO... I am rooted (have not checked radio or simcard), but when I flashed CM7.1 and Gapps, and then rebooted.... I didn't have a market app.
So I went through the browser to an xda thread from this summer where I could download a market app. Installed it.
When launching market, it states I need to add an account-- and this is correct as I had not added a gmail/google account as of yet.
But when I go to Accounts under Settings.... It says I can setup an EXCHANGE ACCOUNT.... What is this???? I tried just entering a gmail account and my password, and it says it cannot connect to server.
What is going on...????? This has nothing to do with the market app... (I don't think).
Anybody have a clue??

An Exchange Email is for Microsoft Outlook users. It allows us to either get Pushed or polled email services.
if you cannot get the g/apps i would highly recommend wiping, flashing the ROM, then flashing the g/apps again. And it does use a specific g/apps package with 2.3 ROMS.

Thank you for your reply. After an innumerable number of hours I was able to root it (without using a USB cable.. I just switched to ADB wireless after temproot), I think I got everything the cyanogen guide is supposed to deliver... But I need to recheck in hboot.
Wow a lot of headaches. I might make a guide.

Can some one shed a light on how to get contacts app from TyphooN_CM7_v3.6.4-MAGLDR TO NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V3.0_NAND_(Android-2.3.5) Rom. I have extracted and copied:\
1. contacts.apk
2. contactsprovider.apk
3. GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk
from First rom to another.
When phone boots up, there is a message of force close comes up on screen every 5 or so seconds.
I shall be very thankfull if some one find a cure for this.
Why i need contacts from lastest nightly: Because In latest nightly we can edit events like birthdays, etc.
My Phone: HD2 EU
Rom: NexusHD2-Gingerbread_V3.0_NAND_(Android-2.3.5)------- Working Great
i dont think its case of just copying the files and expect them to work, you probably will find there are other depencies that the files need, why not just change roms?
All I have ever done when installing a new ROM is log in to the Market with my gmail account, and my contacts synchronise from there?
This has been the case with all Sense/CM7 and MIUI ROM's that I have tried.

i have tried preety much all roms for hd2-- sometimes 3 different ones in a day. yes im also also using google sync for contacts. i prefer tytung rom because its way lighter than nightly while giving the same functionality and much faster than other roms after removing application i dont use like htmlviewer, etc.
AGAIN I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST IF SOMEONE GUIDE TO GET CONTACTS.APK FROM LATEST NIGHTLY SO THAT I CAN ADD/EDIT EVENTS LIKE BIRTHDAYS ANIVERSARRY. THANKS
Even Before I start, I will concede that there might much better and easier method. But this is the working method I found after reading over XDA, Internet and CM bug tracker.
I was on a rooted stock rom from quite sometime (Thanks to Dr.Ketan) and was enjoying whatever limited mods available for Stock odexed rooted ICS roms + changing kernels (obviously between Speedmod & Notecore).
A post by G.Lawene that he may develop an universal kernel which works on stock, AOSP, AOKP and CM9 excited me.
Also I was jeaolous of the homescreen, themes that other deodexed rom users post on various threads.
This mad me to plunge into flashing AOKP, Paranoid, CM9 over last 2 days.
I use my phone primarily to sync my corporate mail and rest to enjoy all those possibilities of Android
So major setback for me in the above custome roms was connectivity to my exchange server.
Most of the corporate exchange servers force polices such as :
Install and connect an MDM (Mobile Device Management) which check for root , becomes a device adminstrator.
The sync when connects makes your corporate as another device admin and forces password policies (no swipe, face unlock) etc ,,,,
The above options used to work on rooted stock roms. basically once connected mails keep syncing, while MDM keeps saying diconnected due to policy issues. Workaround was i used to temp-unroot (disable) in SuperSU.
But in AOKP Zenprise connected while my corporate account never.
In Paranoid Zenprise did not connect even after disabling the root in developer settings.
Same was with CM9 nightlies.
At this point i mived back to stock, but I had tasted the blood (viz CM/AOKP).
I was desperate and was searching entire night over web on how to connect on CM9. Few lucky once are able to connect without any issues, few after using running scripts terminal emulator to remove superuser and su. But not me, nothing worked.
Then I raised questions in many threads asking a workaround or is there a root and unroot zips to be flashed on CM9.
Finally in XDA and CM logs i got to know that there are 2 apps which may help.
1) Voodo OTA rootkeeper (an app developed to root/unroot on stock rooms to update over OTA.
2) Touchdown: Its a standalone appa which acts as an exchange accounts accepts all the security policies and syncs with microsft exchange.
I installed Paranoid rom. made all UI customizations with root. Installed OTA rootkeeper, stored the root setting and clicked temp unroot.
Later I also disabled root in developer settings and installed and connected MDM (zenprise in my case). Voila it connected nd activated itself as device administrator.
Now came the anxious part. Downloaded trial version of Touchdown, went ahead with set-up. To my surprise, it asked to set-up a pin to this app alone and once done, completely synced with my corporate exchange (mails, contacts, tasks, calenders, notes).
In accounts and sync it shows as touchdown account and i can sync contacts into my phone contacts. Touch(wood)down everything working fine.

Were you able to re-root after doing this? And were you able to no longer have Zenprise consistently run in the background? I want to do this, but I also want to be able to re-root my phone.
to save battery set it to push, its better then synch every few minutes
also keep eye out for issues such as wakelocks, often therd party apps have issues with certain fields like birthday, keeping hitting on errors and keeping device awake, lol
I want to bypass exchange security policy on my phone when I configure my office mail.
Is there any MOD or any ROM which has this feature built in?
If none, then can anyone help me mod the relevant apk's to achieve the same?
I was on Omega ROM on my S3 earlier which had this feature.

I was thinking the same, since I had to activate device admin, which options just like the ones in Cerberus or any antitheft app
Although not the same as the built in support, I prefer to use "TouchDown for Smartphones" as the security options are more limited to this app, rather than the phone OS. In my case, my company can only "remote wipe" the data in the app, leaving the rest of my phone data alone. It also has many features not available with the native client and better support for Exchange 2010.
This works, see link at bottom, I'm using it fine on 4.2.1 so ignore comments....I've been running it on aokp since start, see my SIG for versions
It patches your email and exchange2 apks means you can use swipe unlock and widgets on lock screen, for example I use face unlock
You must still accept companies security policy it's just not enforced.
I did it once and saved the patched apks to /sdcard and now after every new ROM flash i simply copy the saved patched apk into /system/app and then wipe dalvik. Best to remove and re-add the exchange account after each ROM update prior to overwriting files.

which method do you suggest, the first, where i patch the one on my phone, or
the Second wher i use the 4.1 apk's?
I used the first Method, i.e the method as per this link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117452 and it is successful. Thanks!
I just moved to the Nexus 4 from the HTC One S and I'm actually having a very similar problem. Previously on all the CM10 ROMs some of the websites I go to have no problem with their security certificates. However in CM10.1 ROMs the same sites will pop up an error that the site's security is untrusted and I cannot download files from them.
My question is what I would need to modify to have the same type of security certificates in CM10.1 ROMs as were available in CM10 ROMs. Is it something I could copy files from a ROM I know is working to replace in the CM10.1 ROM I am using?
I have tried using TitaniumBackup to backup certinstaller and then restore it on the new ROM but unfortunately that was ineffective. Other than that, unless I can do the above, I'm kind of at a loss. I've also pulled the .cer file from Chrome on my computer and used the certificate installer built into android but that had no noticeable effect.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
As an update I copied all of the files from the working ROM in the directory System/etc/security/cacerts to the 4.2.1 ROM and did a clean install but I am still having the same problem so I'm completely baffled as to what else to do.
