I'm currently running darkstone 2.2 The other day a system update popped up, so downloaded and tried to install. No success with the install automatically, when it shuts down it reboot back into windows and when I reboot back into Droid it doesn't do anything except reboot, then tells me the update is ready to install. I'm new to adding OS's to phones, so if someone could give me a walk through on how to install the 2.3 update it would be very much appreciated. Thank you for ur time.

Hi,
To go the way of the NAND,here is a very good starting point:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948
You can also use the link in my sig...guide number 2,to help with the boot loader you will need, and finally a good place to view all the current up to date ROMS is here:
http://android.hd2roms.com/.
Please note, there is a lot of reading and understanding to be done.
The more you read, the more you will understand, the fewer mistakes you will make.
ok well how about this, how do I upgrade to the 2.3 without losing any of my settings or contacts ....etc????
try backing them up with Titanium Backup before hand so if anything goes bad, you can always restore what you had before

Hi guys,
so afew days ago my pc seemed to just turn off randomly as my phone was charging from it.. my pc still worked ok after some quick tinkering but my phone would no longer boot into the old modaco desire rom i had installed.
I figured it was a good time to find a froyo ROM instead and so i decided to get the eViL NXSense ROM. Last time it was much more easy for me to install since i had just unlocked and it all went smoothly, this time i put the ROM on my phone and tried to flash it and it just doesnt load, it sits on the 4 colored lines :\.
Can some1 help me and guide me how to install this and get it working, i really need my phone up n running.
Thanks in advance.
Link to the ROM i want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730290
i dunno. Ive only flashed cyan stuff. Are u running 2.2 or 2.1? Maybe u need to upgrade ur radio? Did you wipe?
+1. Did you wipe?

what problem are you facing? which recovery are you using?
Ok, i did wipe 1st, im using an old recovery which i used when i 1st flashed my old modaco ROM, cant remember what its called but it was up-to-date then.
I discovered i have more problems though. My PC doesnt seem to regocnize my phone, i can move files around using the fastboot fine, but activesync and such doesnt regocnize my phone :\.
How can i fix this since i guess this needs fixing before i can do much else?
:S sorry im a total noob at this rly feel kinda in the deep end.
Hmm.. I am sorry. I don't have any idea about that syncing problem. I hope other member may help you with that.. I am noob too..
Personally, i would start off dealing with the computer issues.
Find a program *win version* called usbdeview. UNINSTALL all drivers related too your phone.
Make sure you have at least the SDK/Tools folder.
Reboot your system.
Connect your phone and reinstall the drivers.
Activesync??? Ummm what's that needed for?? i used too use that app for Motorola phones.
Make sure you have at least the SDK/Tools folder.

When you install the android Software Development Kit (SDK), it should create a folder inside of it that is called "Tools".
For me, it is at C:/android-sdk/Tools. This is the folder that contains the magical fastboot and adb tools that you need to do anything devious with an android device.
Ok, then it seems i don't have it at all.. did a full search and cant find it.. i did format my pc around 3 months ago and dont think i ever really installed anything for my phone since i saw no need for it.
I've downloaded it now from the android website . All unzipped and ready to use.
Hi guys,
first sorry for my bad english.
I have a big problem to face with my N1
I wish to install a custom ROM, so I've rooted my phone and downloaded the Rom Manager apps from Market. I've flashed the clockwork recovery and downloaded the cyanogenmod. So I reboot my phone in fastboot mode, select recovery and now I have a black screen, nothing happens. My phone boot only when I take off the battery, so now I have no Recovery mode in my phone. Someone can help me please ?
My N1 is in FRF91 build, with a Vodafone ROM from France (SFR)
EDIT : I've already tryed to flash the original recovery and AmonRA recovery (1.7.0 and 1.8.0) from my PC but it fails everytime and I have this message => FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
You've opened a new post on this, also...

Ok, so a quick update/ask for more help. Thanks for the advice so far, it has all worked, i uninstalled all drivers, restarted, plugged in my phone and reinstalled the fastboot so now my pc is recognizing my phone at least.. i have the SDK/Tools ready for when i need them. I don't know whats next though, must i flash a new recovery image? if so where can i get this? Or must i 1st update to froyo?
As long as you have root why don't you download rom manager from the market place and use that to flash new roms? It'll update your recovery if needed. It is a well rounded, worth while app.

Update:
I used amon_ra's recovery 1.7.0 and managed to flash the old desire rom i was using before, but as i said.. i want to update to froyo and use eViL's NXSense 1.21.3 ROM, this requires a new Radio and Kernal i believe.
Can some1 please tell me how to install what i need to to use this rom?
here is a link to the rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730290

Have you already tried anything (if so, what problems are you having)?

Okay this is my first ever thread so pls dont bash on where its posted. So the problem is, is that my android on hd2 would stop working after I reboot my phone. Idk why but it just hangs at the boot screen, which is white and has HTC on it. This has happened with every android rom I use and I can't even find answers when I google the problem. I'm using the htc energy rom and a 32gb sd card.
Strange i have exaclty the same! i updated to MccM HD 3Beta two days ago. Ill try another now and see what happpen

I've been going through different android roms and everytime I reboot into the wm energy rom I can't boot back into android. At this point I'm afraid to turn of my hd2, but I need to so I can recalibrate my battery stat.

Android was smoothly worked before the problem.
And I feel it was not stable with the SD card, for example i put some files on it by using the USB and after I check them from the phone not all are there.
And the problem began when the android said "save remove for SD card"
After second it shakes. I remove the battery to reboot it and it is just can't complete booting to android. It is stop at HTC white start screen.
For me the same,
I use a Android rom and when I launch Android, it doesn't leave the HTC screen. I kept it running all night long, but it didn't work. All my contact and text messages are in Android and now I can't reach them anymore, what should I do?

i make a temporary Solution =P

because "data.img" contain all data we build

I have problem booting to andriod too, since yesterday morning, i was using android, the screen was freeze, so i restarted the phone and reboot to android. So as usual, i went to the android folder and trying to boot to android, then i got this error message "The file HARET cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannt be found. If the proble persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file." I have no idea why this happened all in a sudden. so I've tried many times and restarted my phone to see if it would help, but it didn't. then I thought maybe the android wasn't updated, so I went back to the forum and found the updated version, but mine was discontiuned. I downloaded a new build and I erased everything on my SD card and gave it a try, but the same thing still happen. I still got that error message. would anyone know why? I'm desparated to go back to android.
hi all, just got my hands on a htc hd2 and iv loaded [BUILD][19.12.10]-=MDJ FroYo HD v.4.6=-[FRG83D][kernel:MDJ S8.0] onto it no problem, got it running great, only thing is when i switch the phone off and back on it loads windows mobile again, then i have to run the android files again and let it install itself again, in the mean time losing all my settings, iv read theres a way to autoboot android on startup but cant really find anything about it, is this possible, and if so could someone run me through how to do it, wouldnt mind if it was just to reboot the android firmware, but when im losing all my settings and apps its no good, any help on this much appreciated as im still a newbie really to this phone.
When you boot up android from SD card, the first boot usually takes 10-15 minutes (varies from build to build). During this first startup, a new file in your android folder is created called 'data.img'. This is the file which your android build uses to store all the settings/apps/customisation etc.
When you restart your phone, before you boot into android, look in your android folder for 'data.img'. If it is missing then the android startup will take 10-15 minutes again, but if it is present it should only take 2-3 minutes. If it takes 10-15 minutes every time then you probably want to re-download the build and try again.
Also, dual-booting options are available, but check to see if this works first.

I am a newbie needing some help. I rooted my vibrant months ago to have the ability for wifi tethering. It went flawlessly. I initially wanted to wait for the official update. Since it doesn't seem to be coming any time soon I decided I prefer to install a rom myself. I decided to install cyanogen because I've heard good things. I went to the instructions and was instantly bombarded with technical lingo o did not understand, starting with nandroid backup. Well I have rom manager, I did a full backup of my current rom but I couldn't find it on my sd card. I tried to download black hole from rom manager and it just took me to recovery with no options except the normal ones, at this point I felt over whelmed and gave up. I am wondering if anyone can simplify this for me and recommend the best rom? Thanks!

Unroot and wait for the OTA. 2.2 OTA is out now. Seriously.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I would either do like the previous post advised and get the official update that is out. From everything I am hearing it is self updated (you have to do it) through Samsung mini kies. Tmonews.com covered the issue, and what you had to do. If you dont want to do that, and want to keep it rooted and put a rom on it, PM me and I will give you further directions and my personal opinion about what rom would be good.
Good luck.
I had a similar issue at first with the recovery. Open rom manager and flash clockworkmod recovery. After that's complete reboot phone into recovery. It might load the regular recovery, if so, use your volume keys until you get to install packages and then click the power button. After that it should run the clockworkmod recovery.

No need to unroot, you NEVER need to unroot, at least with this phone, dunno about others.
Do what xdefied said about recovery.
cynogen is if you want a stock google experience. The official 2.2 update is out, download mini kies or full and update. Go with custom roms if you want a slightly modified samsung experience. Once you get clockwork recovery working it'll be a snap, choose file in rom manager and you're done.
P.s. Wrong section

Thanks for the replies. I know I have a lot to learn but I have to start from somewhere, and I just appreciate the people willing to give a total newbie advice and it's good to know I'm not the only one to have problems initially downloading from rom manager.
i just got my htc hd2 cause someone stole my old one, on my old one, it was easy 2 put android on the sd, with my new hd2 no rom will work, it loads, but when android turns on it will lag, and apps crash and say force close, and the market wont work, i tried this and mcc's 4.5 and its the same thing happening, what should i do?
Have you tried a full wipe in clockwork and then installed? Do that as your first option and if that doesn't work then Task29, reflash MAGLDR/cLK then clockwork and then your ROM.
im noob, i dunno what clockwork is and how 2 do that? and i never used mgldr/clk on my old hd2, i just did a simple drag and drop onto my sd card, then flashed it, and it always worked fine, now when it works, theres always problems, also, do you know how i can reformat my sd card? ty for help, appriciate it!

Yeah you need to install HSPL and a new radio. Again, there are several guides on how to do this. Search around a bit. One thing though, if it was me, I would just install on NAND and bypass windows altogether. The guide linked above should tell you all about it and how to do it.

+1 I agree with dung and install NAND.
It's this easy...
I thought I'd post here since I'm having a problem with android install and I'm a noob as well (probably more noob than the person posting here). I tried installing nand android on my HD2 and followed the steps exactly. At least I'm pretty sure I did. I installed MAGDLR, then the recovery, and then android. Everything seems fine when booting except it just hangs at the HTC screen. I left it at the HTC screen over night since I heard the first boot would be long. So now I am wondering what are my options. I wanted to install WM again so I can retry the android rom install but since it stuck at the HTC screen, device manager doesn't see it. I didn't brick it did I? Thanks for your help in advance!

Couple things, did you first install HSPL and radio? Those go on before anything else. Second, how did you install the rom? Through usb or through recovery? Lastly, if you flashed via recovery, how did you transfer the zip to sd card? CWM has been known to corrupt files during transfers. I would recommend using a usb card reader or through magldr's usb mount option.
Actually one last thing. Make sure you have selected the correct recovery size. A ROM requiring 150mb will work on a 400mb partiotion, but not the other way around.

It's actually MAGLDR that corrupts files, not clockwork.
It's most likely that you don't have the right partition size though. You can change the partition by going to your clockwork file on your PC, opening it, then look for a file 'flash.cfg' and right click on it and open it in a text editor, then editing the line "system ya | 150" to whatever the ROM needs. The '150' will most likely be 150, 300 and 400 etc. so just change the numbers and save it.
ok i will try and do nand, what is one of the best nand to use, ty so much for help.
Hmm maybe you're right skelly, not sure. Either way it's best to use a card reader.

I would have always said one of the CM versions... great ROMs. Finally tried MIUI this week in preperation for putting it on my woman's G2 (always thought it looked like a girly ROM). OMG I'm hooked! I don't think I can ever go back to CM again. It's blown me away.
But you cannot go wrong with the popular CM ROMs. I tried the Sense one also for the eyecandy I love... but none of them ran smoothly for me.
