Really odd to me because the stock t-mo rom was absolutely fine. Any way to fix this guys?

Hit up the market for an app called "sim2phone" should still be there. Install it, get contacts, then sync to gmail so you dont need to worry about losing/backingup/restoring contacts
1/2 of a solution, yea; but if I want to use the sim like on the stock rom, this still remains unsolved.
This will sound stupid, but do what I said above, then if you ever switch to another rom that does work with your SIM, then sync from gmail, and export to the sim.
I tried another rom and had the same issue with it not seeing my sim contacts, it just said I didn't have any contacts on my sim card. Might be an issue with the GB roms for MT4G. Never had an issue on any of the roms for the HD2
Its not all GB roms, looks like its just CM7 and RoyalGinger right now

It's weird that some don't show the sim contacts even though they are there. I tried the mexDroid rom and had the issue of it saying I had no contacts on my sim card. It also didn't seem to know the voicemail number for T-mobile.

I guess its hit or miss.
I dont even pay attention anymore,
I havent talked to half the people on my SIM in years haha,
it all goes through my Google acct now.
by far the best rom that i have tried so far. Unfortunately i am running into the same issue. Sim2Phone did not work i also tried pushing the contacts directly to the sim from tmobiles backup with no joy.
SKV did you find out how to fix this yet?
Flash a rom that's not fk-ed up lol. But issue w/ those, for me, is that they're either too battery-hungry or have that tmo branding and useless apps and feats/logos I do NOT want or need.
Skinny roms, Y U NO WORK RIGHT?

Thats the only fix posted in the corresponding ROM threads, try flashing a rom that it DOES work on, then just sync to your Google acct, then back to the rom you want.
i went back to the older 2.3.3 that a friend put on there exported teh contacts to the SDcard downloaded RG2.1 from a different location took my time loading it and i did not even have to import them back in they were already there.
Thanks for your help too btw.
Honestly, this is SUCH a basic, native feature that I simply refuse to do some kind of work-around. I also think a good majority of "heavy" roms support this fine and only the bare-bone ones seem to lack it; thus, rom devs should step things up just a tiny notch and not strip out such basics outta the roms.
Hey, if I didn't want to use sim cards and change phones at will without worrying about losing my contacts, I'd be on a CDMA carrier.
Please post any issues with RoyalGinger in the RG thread. I haven't heard of this and I'm not sure even CKisgen knows about this. I'll let him know and maybe he can get it working on his next update.
Sure. If most of you guys sync w/ google and mem card all the time, then I can't blame some devs for overlooking the sim stuff.
True enough! I didn't even consider it in my testing. It's totally an easy oversight. I already emailed LanternsLight (head tester) and informed him about the issue. He's really good about keeping up with CKisgen on these matters, so we may be able to see resolution to this issue.
Cool. It was just surprising to me that with all these improvements and customization, some roms lacks utter basics, you know?
I gotta admit, ever since I had a sim card corrupt and lose half my contacts while making triplicates of the rest I never sync anything to it. I'll talk to ck. What a weird issue. Maybe an aosp thing. I heard royal Ginger and cm7 mentioned in this thread along with another rom I'd never heard of. Is that one aosp? Any sense roms or miui roms get this?

So far I have only experience and heard of these issues in RoyalGinger and CM7. I've used all of the current Sense roms out, (2.0,2.1,and 3.0) and havent gotten this issue, same with the two current MIUI roms. Looks like you are right with it just being *some* AOSP roms. Not all.
to be totally honest anything is better then stock. I have always had a problem with companies telling me what i want and what i need so as far as this glitch with the Royal Ginger rom (which i don't think is a glitch just people not following instructions, like i did the first time) is very much worth it. I RG2.1 and i can't wait to see whats next with it.

Should rename the title to "My POS HD2".
Not all HD2's are unstable like yours.
I, task29, install t-mobile radio 2.10.50.26, install energy 23569 cht and the phone is insanely stable and very fast, faster than 2.13 rom.

Have you tried using a different ROM? I have tried Energy ROM and it froze up on me a couple of times. I then switched to Elegancia 8.5 and I couldn't be happier with performance and stability, as well as eye candy. Only times it gives me trouble is when I do something stupid or install a CAB file and it doesn't like the ROM. The ROM itself is great, at least for me. I recommend you shop around and see what happens.

Yes I tried a diff. Energy ROM and it still gave me the same problem I didnt like Elegancia that much too much eye candy...lol...idk whats up with this phone it gives me problems the most when I flash the ROM then like after 3 days is when it will start to work a lil better. When I first flashed the ROM it had the problems but not as bad. But then later it got worse.

if its that bad you should be getting a replacement. There are two sets of hd2 problems (based on what people have been posting since i started reading in jan)
those who have a few rom basede glitches, like jittery keyboard, sleep of death, etc. which can be solved by flashing, or tweaks etc, and those whose phone, whilst showing similar effects to the first set, are far worse, and dont respond to tweaking.
If its a new phone, and its as bad as you say, dont fanny about with flashing and what not, get it replaced and start fresh.

Hey drift. I gotta go with sam's thoughts here and say that if it were me experiencing what you are, I'd probably be taking it right down to the store and getting a replacement. Just remember to get everything stock again first. Push if you have to, to make sure you get a new one and not a refurb.
One more question, before you punt it back...have you tried running it without the SD card in it at all? I'm not confident the issue is there, but since nothing else seems to be working, if you could try it and see if there's any change that would be awesome.
p.s. I think RDR will be my next ps3 purchase

Well I don't know that the problem will be there, but I've seen in a few examples where taking the card out actually clears up wonky behavior of various types. I just thought it was worth a try before returning it, and I wanted to just add your results to my collective troubleshooting experience on this phone.
There's a few card-releated thinks that can cause your phone to misbehave (bad card, etc), and this is just the best way to make sure we eliminate anything having to do with it. Hate to have you replace a whole phone if all it needs is a new card. But, like I said, there's still a pretty low chance it'll help

I was having similar issue on my stock ROM and could not get it past the boot screen. I took my SD card out (sometimes had to do that to my wing) and it let it boot. As soon as it was booted I did a factory reset and it was good. This was when I first got the phone and was putting all kinds of weird stuff before I actually began doing a little research. Hahaha. But yeah new T-Mobile ROM and Cookies and running like a champ!
At this point I doubt there are refurbs floating around. Too new. Isn't there something you can dial in to show you whether it's a refurb or not from your phone key pad?# something or other?

Refurbs are indeed around, but mostly only coming from T-Mobile Customer Care as warranty replacements for phones in need of exchange that are beyond their initial remorse period... Definitely confirmed on this one.

You experts seem to be the ones to ask. I want to do this. Bionix Fusion ROM. Just a few questions for clarity.
What backups should I do? I've done a clockwork backup, should I also do a titanium? Once I flash would I use titanium to restore things?
What am I going to lose? I thought I read somewhere that SIMS will disappear. If so, how do I deal with this?
Will my carrier unlock be undone? If it is, can I use the same unlock code I used when I unlocked the last time?
Any other gotchas I need to be aware of?

Always do a back up with clockwork. This back up will put you back exactly where you were with apps and all.
When u flash a rom like this it will wipe all apps and settings, texts and calls and contacts. I use astro to back up the apps I want to keep. Settings are always better if u do them ur self. In my opinion new settings should be used for every rom flash. Contacts are an easy fix if you sync with Google. If not, there's a "back up contacts" option in the stock contacts app.
It does wipe Sims. You can use astro or myfiles to find the Sims data and apk and copy paste it to ur external sdcard and replace when u flash a new rom. I could be wrong here tho and u should do some research on the Sims subject.
Carrier unlock I have no idea about.
That's about it. Flashing roms have become clockwork(lol) to me.

No it does not lock the phone, and the codes are always the same for the device, but you still can use the same system to get them codes.

Hey everyone,
I just put the cyanogenmod 7.0.2.1 on my HTC EVO 4G about a month ago. At first it was working fine, now it will just randomly restart not while I'm ever using it, but when it is sitting idle it will just restart at odd times. Has anyone else had this issue?
Everything else with the ROM is working awesome. Please Help.
No issues here, why don't you come up to date and flash the stable 7.0.3.1. Are you running any custom kernels by chance?
Here's the link to 7.0.3.1 just flash over your current rom and wipe dalvik-cache.

Oh thanks, been really busy with work, and hadn't had time to check for any updates. I appreciate the help very much. DL'ing the new ROM now.
Upgrade to the newer version. Maybe it'll help? Definitely clear cache & dalvik when you update.

I have ran many different roms and CM7 was the ONLY one that caused my phone to reboot many times a day. A quick google search can show you threads about owners who had phones that bricked after running CM7. I never said it was gospel, I just dont need my phone rebooting multiple times during the day and it was way more often when I had wimax connected. CM is a great rom but its not the second coming of Android and not worth my phone rebooting during the day.
And I am running Smooth N Sexy V1.2 A sense ROM that looks like gingerbread.
Reboots
I've been through several ROMs now and the reboot problem appears to be not a ROM issue!
Here is the story. I had started with Baked Snack, very good, but I wanted more battery and to try CM and get away from Sprint messaging update nag.
CM worked great, I updated to 7, until the reboots started to happen during heavy use of Angry birds.
So I restored to early CM 6.x, and reboots continued off and on every few days, getting progressively worse.
So I tried Warm 2.2, same issues.
I went back to CM7 and still trouble.
I went to Fresh and It was fine for a week, and then on Friday, (I noticed that Friday was significant), reboots again.
So after a month of this the reboots are so bad that I can't use the phone. I called Sprint, de-provisioned the EVO, went back to my Palm, and then unrooted and went back to Stock ROM, but with no Cell access.
The phone is stable now. As long as it's off the Sprint Cellular network!!!
All of the reboots were related to cellular activity. Messages coming in, ads being updated, calls coming in, tower switching, roaming, or worse of all, no tower signals at all.
I will post back here if the phone remains stable without cellular. But all of the research I have done on the issue has pointed to cellular access. I am on wifi and all the apps and functions are working without issues so far. I am starting a dialog with HTC to see if there is a hardware problem.
The reboots also caused heat in the general area of the SD card...don't know what else is there but I do know the cellular antennas are on that side of the phone. Leaving the battery out all night, after an off state recharge would help stabilize the phone for a while, including cache wipes and factory resets.
But once the phone had been on for a while, or Friday morning would come, the reboots would continue.
I have been a computer nut for 30+years and I solve issues for a living. I strongly suspect the radio hardware or firmware as the culprit in this reboot issue. Every other account of this has had similar connections to the radio use.
Agreed 100% , I've been rooting since the day it first became available and never bricked my phone or got stuck in a boot loop by just flashing a "rom". If I get reboots its because I either flashed a kernel or a very unstable rom. It makes me laugh that you think "CM7" is causing the reboots. You say its CM7, I say it's idiots who probably don't follow directions.

Dude its all good, no need to call anyone an idots because we all can have different experiences. Any ROM thread in the dev section has reboot posts some have resolutions, some go to another rom and some seem to be hardware issues. Just like you have been rooting since day one like I have doesnt mean that CM7 is NOT causing my phone to reboot when no other ROM does not.
Your welcome for me allowing me brighten up your day by making you laugh, dont take your personal experiences and spread them across every user like its the ONLY experience.

Once more sir, I spoke from my own personal experience. Plain and simple CM7 was causing my EVO to reboot, and especially when it was on wimax or multitasking. Even from a clean install without restoring anything except for logging into google on the device. I spent 4 days troubleshooting the issue including trying different versions and nightlies. Oh yea..and before you ask the temps were normal on the device no higher than any other time.
But yet again another know it all here on XDA. Dam i must be dumb as **** to been flashing my phone since the froyo root method was released and never had another ROM give me that type of issue. The ROM is not worth me going back to the stock RUU and swapping hardware to since that seemed to be the the last variable after my troubleshooting. Not a big ****ing deal...my phone didnt agree with CM7 like I have seen a small number of other users out there. You dont see me around ROM threads always *****ing and moaning about issues when resolutions or known issues are posted on the first page or doing any other nonsense that I will guess others on here are doing that you may be referring to.
Obvious you are one of those XDA "experienced pros" that are quick think someone has no idea what they are doing with their phone. Post count doesnt mean everything bro.

You win, you obviously have the bigger nerd e peen. I should go back to a flip phone. *Bowing to phone gawd*
You wouldn't be as much as an ass if you happen to suggest ONE resolution to the rebooting.
Hi everyone,
I am about to buy a used Nexus One. I tried looking for a new one but they are nowhere to be found. I need the one that has the 850/1900 3G bands. I know the Nexus One is an old phone, but I like the size of it and it's still a powerful device. I have a few questions. I checked out a couple of used Nexus One and both of them had issues with the back return key and the home key. The guy that I'm going to meet next week assured me that everything is working fine on his device. He had it for 1.5 yr and took care of it. I have read the issues with the power button. What else should I test the unit for? Also, how can I tell that I am buying the right Nexus One for Rogers Wireless in Canada? I read somewhere that on the back battery door if it says "PB99110" this is the 850/1900. Is that correct?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Happy New Year everyone!!!
I'm assuming Rogers uses a GSM network, and if so you would already be a Rogers customer correct? You could put your sim card into the phone, boot it up and verify that you are receiving 3G and that the phone calls out correctly and receives calls correctly.
Also, you can go to Settings> About Phone> Status and see information on the phone and network. You might find some of the information you're looking for there. If you're looking specifically for 3G you would see something related to UMTS or HSPA.
Hope you figure it out, good luck.
Yes Rogers is a GSM provider. Rogers has the same bands as AT&T. So I'm assuming as long as I see 3G data on the device, it does have the correct 3G bands. Is there anything else I need to look or check for on the Google One before buying?

I would turn it off and on making sure you don't see anything odd on the boot up and check the volume buttons. If he's selling the desk dock with it drop it in the dock and make sure it charges. Also check all of the soft buttons at the bottom of the phone. They're touch sensitive and you don't want to get home and realize the home button doesn't work at all.
Besides that I don't know what else to look for. Maybe try opening web pages, a you tube video, check for audio, etc. You might also want to double check which version of Android it's running so you know if it's stock or if it's a modified ROM.
Also, I have a AT&T Nexus One so I looked for the number you listed. I pulled off the battery door and behind the battery in the top left corner was PB99110 which you mentioned in your first post. It should be written in gray lettering on the black portion below the barcodes. Looks like if you see those numbers you should be good to go on Rogers.
"sola fide" thanks for your help. Good advice on turning the phone off and on. It does come with a charging dock but we're nowhere near a location that has a power supply so I can't test that out. I will do my usual checks when I buy a used phone, test the browser, music player to make sure the speakers are working fine, make a test call, etc. Now that I know there are issues with the power button ad soft keys, I'll test those out more. He said he never modded the phone so I'm assuming if I see 2.1 Eclair on the device, it's the stock rom.
Thanks for confirming PB99110 is the correct model for Rogers & AT&T.
Modding =/= Updating. It could be running froyo or gingerbread

The N1 got over the air updates up to Android 2.3.6 and I believe it is version GRK39. If you are running that, it should be the latest officially supported version.

Thanks for confirming that. I did end up getting the N1 and it is running 2.3.6. I want to root it to CyanogenMod but I don't feel comfortable doing it by myself. I'll wait when my brother pops by and get him to help me out. I never rooted an Android before so that's why.

It is actually pretty simple to get up and running (the hardest being getting the Android SDK set up on your computer). You can check out the instructions yourself here...
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Nexus_One:_Full_Update_Guide
I would recommend following the Amon_RA steps, as it is a little less confusing.

Thanks for the link and the advice. I still feel more comfortable with my brother's help. Once it's done, then I might feel more confident in rooting my HTC Amaze, if there are roms for that phone. I haven't looked into that yet.
I'm having problems Installing a Custom Recovery Image. Could someone please help me?
Thanks
Please omit my previous post. I successfully rooted my phone to CM7! This is the first time I ever rooted a phone. Loving it so far!!!
You should try the MIUI rom, I have the latest one and its great in every aspect, otherwise, if you like a more 'clean' look try the Oxygen rom.

Miui is like having a iPhone with Widgets of android. Its little simpler. But since you been using android, u will like cm7. Its faster and smoother with more options. Cm has all the goodies. U will enjoy it more. If not stock I will not use any other rom then CyanogenMod.

Try it I used for a long time CM, now I'm in love with MIUI, Maybe i switch back on a CM6 build to test the 720p recording..

If Miui is like having an iPhone with widgets of Anrdoid then I'm not gonna like that. I have the iPhone4 (which is up for sale, lol) and I find it boring. So far I'm really liking CM7. One thing I did notice after I rooted the phone is my speakers distorts sometimes when I play music. Is this a known issue?

I don't play alot of music on my speaker. I use the headphones. I am not real picky with sound and stuff. As long as it works. But distortion is not good though. You will love CM7 and more to come.
Oh yeah I also had iPhone4s. I buy iPhones so I can sell it and profit from it. I have a reserve for my next tech gadget. LOL.

I think it was me who caused the distortion. I was messing around with the phone equalizers and enabled bass boost and also had the equalizer set on bass booster. I just changed a few settings and it sounds better. I'm hoping it was my mess up and not the speakers. I really like CM7 and I'm sure I'll come to love it.
And what is your next tech gadget?
I think I got hosed. When I was asking the seller if everything was working fine on the N1 he assured me everything is working perfectly fine, even the soft keys. I tested out the phone thoroughly before buying. Everything seemed to me working fine when I was testing it out. But you can't really tell if a certain function will continue to work as I continue to use the phone. Now I'm having problems with the back soft key. I have to hit it a few times before it responds. I tried hitting it harder or at different angles and it doesn't make a difference. Any suggestions? Am I screwed?
Just got a new EVO 4g after my old one was failing. Is it still possible to root these newer EVO 4gs? What is the easiest way to root & easiest way to put the phone back to stock if need be? Ive been using sense & it just seems like crap compared to ROMs & it seems like sense eats battery life alive...lol

Yes, it's still possible to root the EVO. Check out the link below for more info. As far as not liking Sense-based ROM's, you can always go the AOSP route.

Well what is the best way to root as far as easiest and most effective? Also, as far as going back to stock which rooting method makes that easy as well? What is currently one of the best ROMs for EVO 4g as far as reliability & everything working 100% gps, calls, text, net, etc

Without knowing what software version you're on, the first part of your question is hard to answer. As for the second question, what may be the best ROM for one user may not be the best for another, so it's up to you to decide which ROM works best by trying a few out.

Thanks for the reply FinZ28. How can I check my software version? As far as the best ROM I meant generally speaking the top 3 most popular?
Go to Menu>Settings>About phone to find your software version. As far as "most popular", I can't really help you there. There are too many choices and I haven't flashed a ROM on a OG EVO in awhile.

FinZ28: thanks for the reply but my main concern is being able to revert the phone back to stock in case I return it or go in for repairs. I was unsuccessful at doing that with my previous EVO so its the only thing Im trying to find out? Is rooting under one of the methods (HTC Dev or Captain Throwback's) make it easier to revert back to stock or is it all the same? Ive been on stock sense now for 1 month & the phone really runs a lot worse than when rooted...

You can always get back to stock, but it really isn't necessary.
Why isnt it necessary?

If you have a hardware issue with the device, the software on it is irrelevant. And Sprint services rooted devices.
Thanks for the heads up Cap. BTW is it possible to make service/3g better on this phone? I feel like when I was using ASOP Rom the service was a lot better...At times my text messages dont go thru, I seem to get drop calls more often, & things just feel a lot slower on this stock sense rom that came with the phone..
Cap what ROM are you using?
Is it possible for 3g to be worse using stock sprint sense rom vs an ASOP rom ? I remeber when I had ASOP rom my 3g would hardly lag compared to now its constantly lagging...

I just flashed Evervolv KitKat on my OG. More accurately I just restored it. Before that I was running Omni, but I have to do some work on that to get data working. I think I might need to borrow ril from Evervolv.
AOSP is slimmer than Sense, so the device will typically run faster with it. But I cant imagine signal is actually better, since the stock stuff is built specifically for the device.
Well Im not sure about that. When using AOSP my 3g hardly ever stopped working when I was at the gym. Now it stops at least 5 times...Does everything work on Evervolv KitKat Rom cant seem to find it on the forums? Im trying to find a ROM where all things are working well & is very fast.

The only way you'll have a ROM with everything working on this device is to use Gingerbread.

that's the general consensus, eh?
i just brought my og evo out of retirement after my wife lost her iphone 5.
i figure this can tide her over until we decide what to do...change carriers, what phones to get, etc...
if i want her to have a phone with working/hacked hotspot and wimax...is there anything over gingerbread that will run it?
also, will i be tied to sense only roms?
thanks for the suggestions, gang.
mods...if i don't hear anything out of this thread...i hope you don't mind, but, i'll start an original thread.
thanks, gang!

WiMAX will only work on Gingerbread, like I said previously. But you can run CM7 and still have working WiMax, so I guess that's something .

it's funny to hear that cm7...SEVEN...is an option.
just serves to remind me how long i've had the phone.
so, maybe cm7 will do the trick for a while.
any variation of it you in mind? or, just straight cm7?
thanks, again!
