[Q] Need help setting up Android Kitchen - Android Software Development

Hey guys, I've recently started to get involved in ROM development on my free time, still pretty new at this, and have been researching how to set up Ubuntu w/ a Virtual Machine as well as setting up the Android Kitchen. I came across a couple comments where people have reported Ubuntu 11.04 having graphical issues. Could anyone verify this? I'm in the process of setting up VirtualBox and don't know if I should go with the latest version of Ubuntu or 10.04. I guess what I need to figure out is if they are both compatible with VirtualBox 4.0.8, or if there is a combo of the two that out weighs the other in terms of graphics and performance? Thanks in advance for any feedback.
What I'm running:
Win7 Ultimate x64 (x86 compatible)
VirtualBox 4.0.8
Ubuntu ?

Linux on HTC?

Hi there!
I was just wondering if anyone got linux up and running on one of this phones (especially I'm interested in the s730). Some kind of openmoko on a HTC would just be really great
So anyone - any information?
thx

EDIT:
I think, it should be possible, cause Android seems to run (better: is designed to run) on Qualcomm MSM7k series...
nothing? nobody?

There is a thread here about running win95 using bochs. I want to try to run DSL on bochs the problem is that i cannot find the wince version of the emu. If that is successfull i am looking at building a small gentoo system using matchbox as the window manager. Unless i can find a wince port for gtk that is
look up the WIKI and u will find all your answers
@cornelha:
bochs isn't the best solution when it goes down to linux. I think using the right compiled kernel (for arm9/11) would do it...
@ather90:
thanks
will look into that

The A501 does not run windows! The Windows Iconia is the W500.
The A500 doesn't have an Intel CPU, so there's almost zero chance of anyone getting any version of Windows to run on it in the foreseeable future. The W500 that runs Windows is a completely different piece of hardware from the A500.
Linux might be possible, as there are ARM versions of Ubuntu running on other tablets, but my understanding is it's a fair amount of work to get everything running (and straight Linux or Windows aren't really very good touch-screen operating systems, anyway).
As far as I am aware there is very little difference between the a500 and a501 save for some 3g and sim setups.
What you may want are some of the windows emulator (which are pretty much on the "poor" side of emulators and "windows") or use a remote setup to use your tablet to run the windows on your pc, just dont expect to be playing COD:MW3 with it.
i knew that. idk y i said a501, my bad. i have tryed linux installer from the market but it still wont boot. i must be missing directorys or sumthing. any ideas on an easyer way to install linux or maybe a tutorial one of u could help me with? iv cheked out the "how to install native linux" a few times but it doesnt make sense. any help would be awsome. thanx guys/girls

[Q] How to build/make a custom rom for U8800 pro?

Hello guys!
You may laugh at this but after I got my U8800 pro last week and done with all the modding (rooting, installing custom roms), I decided I would like to make a custom rom for my phone. I have in mind to make an ICS rom cuz I don't see a really active development for the U8800 pro. I know it's hard, but I am really good with computers (considering my age). I can use windows pretty well and have a good knowledge of linux(have installed and used for some time ubuntu, opensuse and chakra linux). I have some basic knowledge of programming.I know python 3.2 and VB.Net 2010. I have searched a little and found guides about building ICS from source (all for ubuntu) but I get some errors in fresh installed ubuntu 11.10 64bit.
Do you have any guide/tutorial that would be good for me to study?
thanks in advance!

I know nothing about building custom ROMs, but my first advice to you is use Ubuntu 10.04 64bits... almost all tutorials are for this version of Ubuntu, as it is the recommended environment by google

a question aimed at devs about roms?

Ok so I am interested in developing roms but since I am only gonna begin(still thinking things through) I was hoping you guys can help me with some doubts:
1) Do you prefer building on windows or Linux?
2) Is there an advantage on working with Linux?
3) Is working with Linux on a virtual machine in windows the same?
4) Is there a way to test the rom without having to flash?
5) Is there anywhere you think one should begin or read before actually getting to work?
Thanks in advance
