I am visiting here from EVO forum... The word is that there'll be an encrypted bootloader on the EVOO 3D just like the Motorola Droid X... can anyone weigh in on the problems this poses. It seems you guys have plenty of roms, but people are saying it will make roms nonexistent on the EVO 3D. Is this the case? Is it more difficult for Devs around here because of this?
Thanks for any feedback in advance!

It disallows us from flashing custom kernels; therefore, we can't have things like Cyanogenmod and true AOSP ROMS.
Our ROMS are made from the stock Droid X rom and have things like motoblur removed and replaced with AOSP applications.

It just makes life difficult if you like to customize your device. I also find that as time goes on, it becomes more annoying.

Wasnt the thunderbolt bootloader locked also? Yet they figured out how to unlock it days after release, here we are a year with dx andno progress...

The thunderbolt key was a lot simpler and it was considered incredibly lucky they got through. The droid x has a 1024 bit RSA encryption key. Have fun getting through that
There's a lot of differences in MOTO and HTC's way of locking it down. MOTO has an encrypted bootloader while HTC uses an encrypted signature. Also a permanent root is possible on MOTO devices while only temp root on HTC. With HTC any changes made to the system partition are reverted back to stock on a reboot. Makes customs roms pretty useless. Unless we get lucky like the thunderbolt we won't have s-off on new HTC devices unless they let us.

Just wondering Will their be a Moto Milestone Section as im in UK and Droid phones would not work here
put this here becaese the phones are almost identical Thanks
oh and also do you think the milestone will get root because of motorola's locked bootloader and would it be possible to use a similar way to root like with the Milestone1 and it's locked bootloader
Thanks
.
The root used on the droid 2 should apply, unless google/moto patches it, cause its a hole in FroYo itself

haha thanks hopefully
I love my atrix but the dev section has to be the least interesting on the atrix than any other section. Damnit moto release the source codes and kernals!!!

Were not getting custom kernels until the bootloader is unlocked which might not ever happen.....if u bought this phone because u thought it would be great to flash alot u made a poor investment
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Fair enough but is there anything to look forword to in the long run? Or just a standard Android device? I mean I'm rooted and all but its slightly lags here and there. Or when moto has firmware update it'll get better? What keeps you or motivates u to keep the atrix?

Why is there no cm7 rom or gingerbread rom for the droid 2, it seems theres one for every other device except the droid 2 and droid x, i was just wondering
I am pretty sure that CM7 uses a custom kernel on their roms and as you know D2 and DX are locked up
oh, that sucks for us, but what about gingerbread im so ready to get a custom gingerbread rom...im tired of all these themed 2.2.1 roms
me too! is it just me or do some of these roms slow down on you after a while?
I know some devs don't want to release a gb rom until after moto releases its official gb update
It is my understanding that Gingerbread would require a change in kernal that can't be done due to it's locked bootloader. Though I could be wrong on that.
A bit related, but what about 2.2.2 rom that has all the security fixes?
Questions belong in the General section not in Android Development. I hate being that guy but we need to try and keep things organized. It helps people answering and helps those with questions get answered and have the answer in a convenient location.

sorry figured this had to do with development
GB will run just fine on the current kernel, this has already been discussed by devs on this very forum. Also, yes there is a wait for an official GB version from MOTO. Finally, CM7 is almost stable on DX (which can then be easily ported to D2). Blackdroid, from what I hear, has a fully functional GB ROM for DX, which will be ready once he sorts out some boot issues (it only boots once) (again, this will also easily be ported to D2).
The other reason it's taking so damn long is that the phones are locked down, making booting customs ROMs a difficult task in some cases, and a lot of work has to go into getting them stable and fully functional
Sweet!

Where did you here this? CM is pretty open about the fact that they don't develop for Droid 2/X/Pro because of the locked bootloader. The current CM7 ROM is for the OG Droid, not the Droid X.
I too am very curious about where you got the information about a semistable CM7 rom. I don't know if you're posting that just to get everyone excited for something we all thought wasn't possible or if we're (the people who didn't believe it was possible) just behind the times.

It's been posted on the CM7 developers twitter that he is working on a version to be compatible with the DX.
But it should also be noted that he said it should theoretically work on the D2, but there won't be support because he doesn't have one to test it on.
His twitter name is cvpcs.
Very cool. Some one, or a collective bunch, needs to get that dev a dx and then I bet we would have a nice stable cm7 rom. Mmm, one can dream.

Maybe it's not such a dream anymore since the bootloader's security has been cracked
bootloaders been cracked? not quite...it was just nenolod trolling.

Yeah, I see that now.
Oh well. I'm seeing what I can do to drop Motorola anyway...that Thunderbolt is looking pretty awesome! I know a few people with it and they're getting 30Mbps+ down & up speeds in the Minneapolis area.
From my understanding, HTC put a locked bootloader on the Thunderbolt as well. I may be wrong though, but if it is the case, that keeps me from going to it.

From what i read, the thunderbolt was locked but wasnt encrypted, so people already managed to crack it. The DX/D2/D2G/DPro all have locked bootloaders that are encrypted with a 1024 bit key, which is damn near impossible to break.

not everything works like liquid settings. not a bad start. possibly some bugs are permanent due to hardware. I got bored with cm7 and on day 4 with miui
Liquid settings fcs immediately, have had a few calls, where once answered, I can't hear them and they can't hear me, and there seems to be something buggy about the g-sensor. Screens won't rotate when I want them to, and if I use the camera, it locks it into landscape. Problem persists into apps like YouTube, where I'm locked into portrait mode. Any suggestions?
Sent from my Incredible using xda premium
how about some love for the HTC Wildfire S
Anyone have this Liquid for the DX available for download?
I recently inherited a Droid X after my Thunderbolt was stolen (or lost, I'm not sure which) and since I'm still under contract, I'll probably just stick with the DX for a couple more months. Many ROMs are hard to find since the phone is so old (by technology standards in general, phone standards in particular)...including this one. Anyone have the ROM up so I can download it? Or would you be willing to throw it up on Dropbox or something?
Thanks!

Do you know who the people are? Is there somewhere we can go to check on how they are doing? Surely our heroes are discussing their progress somewhere.
I (along with others, I'm sure) would like to be kept in the loop--that's all.

I'm new to Android development, but I'm a software engineer with Linux experience and lots of spare time for the next few weeks. If you and your friends would like my help, I'd be happy to assist. All I would need is a point in the right direction for something to investigate.

Is the reason we can't sbf back to an earlier version because of a locked bootloader? If so is there a way to repack the older sbf with the new signatures? Enabling us to go to a rootable version.
