hi guys..
got a bit of a question.
ive read through many of the related posts but havent quite found the right answer to my question.
i have a tmobile hd2 with the latest official winmob rom, and have been trying out various android roms booting from sd.
well, heres the thing... there seems to be a two distinct types of roms in how it works after booting (several times to settle things down).
some lag and some simply dont.
for eg, rafdroid and mcmjoon desire hds have a distinct lag. it intermittently freezes.
on the other hand, core cell build, gingerbread builds and froyo superram builds have no lag/intermittently freezes.
its not an overall slowdown of the operating system, its intermittent short freezes.
i like some of the stable established builds but so far im resigned to only use those that dont lag as i cant figure out whats different that some lag and some dont.
am currently using darkstones superram froyo thats really very nice. i just wanted something with more eye candy and had sense cooked into.
anf btw.. what exactly is the security flaw thats a problem with darkstones superram?
thanking ya'll in advance for any and all replies.
regards,
asmd.
Sense uses alot or takes up a sizeable chunk of ram and storage so you can expect that sense makes roms bigger which therefore should in turn make them slower. So in all you won't find a sense build that is as smooth and fast as non sense builds. It's like a computer, the more stuff on your computer, the slower it runs.
Try the superam sense from darkstone, very fast with sense.

thanks for the replies guys.
appreciate it.
am using superram froyo and so far its the bees knees!
im not talking about the general slowness of any build. that i know. some builds are faster than other but im talking about intermittent freezes. everything just stops for a moment and then continues. even typing on the on screen keyboard.
the most obvious that ive recently noted was between rafdroid and corecell for example. corecell ui is uniform, its not as fast as gingerbread or darkstones build but there are no freezes. rafdroid (and others) also have a a similar speed but inter spaced with intermittent freezes.
i formateed the sd card before trying any new build and only used the same card for all of them. so im wondering if im doing something worng or could it be something to do with radio versions... i'll admit that im a noob and it took mee weeks of reading before i had the balls to even an sd build of android. so this may be something of a simple question.
im using a stock standard hd with the the newest firmware updates.
regards,
asmd.
Hey everybody, before you start bashing about me using the search butten... I did, I was just unsuccessful. The thing is, I've used so many different types of roms and most of them work fine but always there seems to be a problem. What I'm trying to say is. Are there still recently updated Sense roms witch are not Sense 3.0 because I hate unstable roms, I've had so much trouble before. I'm looking for a as fast as possible rom with Sense 2.1 and one that keeps my phone alive longer than 5 hours. Right now I can't even find Sense 2.1 roms without all the flashy sense 3.0 skins and stuff. I did find some old stuff but like I was saying, I don't really like unstable stuff since my phone is killing me with the battery drain.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a recent sense 2.1 rom witch is fast, stable and good for the battery.
Thanks
No there is nothing. The sad truth of hd2 chefs since two months : all about updates. Stability and fixes ? They don't care about. Thank u for tytung and charansingh...

Sense 3.0 is wayyy too buggy on the HD2 and in reality little or no progress has been made over the last few months as the issues have not really been resolved so im at a loss as to why someone would want to flash it on their phone, give me a solid stable build anyday (like Hyperdroid CM7) i don't miss sense in the slightest and i really cant see why people are so preoccupied with it!

I've used it since 13 Apr. and with the GPS-Fix it was absolut perfect. Wich means no Bugs or something.
Batterydrain was ok. 3mA in Standby with Wifi on.
Uptime with normal usage 24 Hours.
Hope it helps!
Yeah but many FC on games...
Played a lot. Don't get some FC at all

Hyperdroid and Typhoon are both EXCELLENT roms. I am running Hyperdroid right now. Battery drain is minimal.
It seems like the majority of the HD2 ROMs are Sense ROMs. Are there any good non-Sense ROMs, even stock Android ROMs for the HD2, or does everything pretty much include Sense?
Nope, Typhoon and Hyperdroid are great and faster, as stated in the post above yours...
you should try the boyppc shiftpda i have been using his Roms from the begining and never had any problems they just work good battery life but you need to manage it well but its a shame he has stoped usig the DAF install for his latest Roms but give them a go see how you like them

why don't you try the SuperRam froyo 1.5? it's veeeryy stable.; but the only thing i don't like, is that there is no stock battery % for the battery.. and i don't want to use widgets as they drain your battery!
i think that the only sense gingerbread rom that will be ok for hd2 will the one that finally htc is going to release for htc desire and i hope that someone of our devs will port it.personally after testing of allmost all sense roms i see that the only one that works with the smallest lags is the roms that are based in desire`s sense like first nand rom by dft or the one from bauner.the other sense roms were made for mobiles with better hardware from hd2 like better cpu and more ram and i think it is very difficult to fit in hd2.

You are very wrong. There has been ALLOT of progress over last few months as far as 2.1+3.0 or just 3.0.
Check out the rom in my sig, its very stable and fast, Infact its much more stable and faster then the standard DHD sense roms that have allot of lag and the need to reboot various times and have to wait till system settles etc. The one in my sig has no lag and works virtually straight away.
The only bugs really are camcorder (which is nearly fixed + you can use non-HTC in mean time) and minor gfx bugs that are hardly noticeable and the added features well make up for it.

Well im not sure if you have been looking with your eyes closed or what because there is MANY non-sense roms available.
If you want a AOSP stock rom then you should get the NexusHD2 roms, either froyo or gingerbread, They are very fast, very stable and as close to stock as you will get.

Sadly, i have to agree with this.. I dont see a point in releasing half finished ROMS and then updates that don't really fix things...
Sense (non 3) roms are less and less available, but thankfully we have guys like tytung and charansing havibg roms ou there that work for 100%
Dont get me wrong, i respect and appreciate the efforts, but i dont see the use of 20 releases where all of them have the same flaws and nobody can fix that until we have the desire source for GB.

What you and all the other newbies here don't seem to understand or grasp is that this site is called xda-developers and this forum is for developments. Things dont always just "work" they develop. What doesn't work now will work later, that's just how it is. Even the most stable roms like NexusHD2 etc didnt work properly in beginning.
The point of these releases that have bugs is so that people can test, leave feedback etc and so dev can work on developing the build.
If you dont enjoy trying new builds, tweaking roms or generally playing with them you can stick to NexusHD2 but for the people like myself who do enjoy the whole process we have a choice.
Hi
please dont shoot me for asking this question but I have searched alot and i have not found any gingerbread or 2.3.4 with htc sense without bugs. so i decided to ask this question if there is any 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 rom with htc sense without any problem as froyo 2.2 has terrible battery life. please help
all gingerbread sense roms have bugs and issues
battery life on foroyo was fine for me, maybe it was your setup causing batery drain

Majority of time battery drains are down to end user and not ram.
High battery drain can be caused my MANY different things like choice of sdcard, not properly formatted, choice of installed apps, choice of settings, user not tweaking default settings, etc
Also Sense roms as a whole use alot of battery even on native android devices, that just normal. You have to tweak them to make battery last longer.
if you want a gingerbread rom you should go away from sense. miui is also good looking. or just use another launcher. launcher pro for examle has nice looking widgets too.
if you want sense you have to use a froyo rom if you want everything working.
but i would go for miui. it looks really good and has some nice features. battery was lasting s long for me on ndt ginger. didn't get such a battery life on any other rom. and if you don't like the iphone like launcher just install another.

Just like he said. I have tried a few and I like you don't want a ROM that has glitches. I'd rather buy a new phone. I ditched the sense and now have ROM that is almost perfect. I can live without it.

Hey folks.
Ive been trying android builds for.a while now and tbh i just cant find what i need...
Evey build i try there are allways some damn issues like freezing. Lagging etc.
Can any1 suggest a build with high stability and speed? Not intrestid im i-candy...just want a solid issue free build if possible.
Thank you.
cm7 and miui builds have no lags or freezes.
tytung nexus hd2
Cm7 runs like a dream, ty very much!
its a pretty old rom but i like RAFDROID HD found here. the problem is people have different taste so what i like you may not. i do feel its a great rom, no freezing or lag problems..well none that i have anyway. i will say the only two things about this ROM i dont like are you can have custom bootanimations and you cant share a photo from inside the camera app. just go into gallery instead to share.
Its for my father's HD2, Windows Mobile is pretty much useless nowadays, and he loves the Voice Search feature on my Evo 3D. Its going to be a NAND rom, not booting from SD, that would be too annoying for him to use.
Thing is, there are only about 1000 roms for this thing....... even dozens of versions of Cyanogen.
And on top of that, I don't know how well some of the custom roms with Sense 2.0 or 3.0 would work, or if any are missing hardware support.
I understand you lose performance if you add-on alternate UIs like sense, but how big is the performance hit? Hes not going to be playing high-end 3D games or performing protein folding or anything on the thing, so as long as the performance loss doesn't hit the "Phone becomes laggy, input lags, and it takes forever to load anything" range, I would actually prefer a sense based rom than one without.
Again, I am doing this for someone that isn't TOO technical, though no stranger to computers either, so I don't need a rom packed full of overclocking and root tweaking options (though a rooted rom would still be preferred).
So then, are there any good Sense 3.0 roms for the HD2 available? Got any you recommend? Do they still support all of the phone's hardware?
If not, what would be your next choice? Is there much point in using Sense 2.0 over vanilla android other than the extra sense widgets which he would probably not care about? Sense 3.0 does have the looping home screens and the very functional lock screen that I know he would find useful.
Thanks, I know a lot of people ask for recommendations, but after searching for roms for days and basically flying blind in the "maybe this one will be good, its got a lot of people installing it" category I could really use some advice, especially for a Sense 3.0 rom... if they exist.

If you really want sense, go for a dhd sense 3 rom (Runnymede Sense 3.5 works well on mine), and if you really want looping homescreens, install launcherpro on any rom of your choice.
BUT I'd recommend a cm7/miui rom because in the end, it's still slow.

Not a fan of Sense 3.5 over 3.0 personally.
And just how slow is it compared to CM7? I mean, I understand CM7 will be faster than a sense rom, even CM7 with sense hacked in, but as long as its not laggy or sluggish thats fine, I don't need it to break benchmark records and run the latest 3d software.
I really like the sense 3.X roms... and i don't find them THAT slow (i have a DHD).
But that god damn graphic glitch is anoying, and i'm not going to disable GPU rendering of sense to get it working without glitches... must wait

Im new to NAND HD2, but not new to the HD2 ( sold my 1st one, just got another the other day ) but I just flashed my first Android NAND ROM and I noticed all thse graphic glitches, i thought it was something else. But apparently its a common problem for everyone? No fix Im assuming.
Anyways im curious what you mean by DHD?
GHetting to performance, HD2 isnt bad at all! Im old time Android owner going back to the G1 and myTouch 3G.If you wanna see degraded performance try flashing a Sense rom on a G1 or 32B device. OWwwo
Well I can recommend Rafdroid rom. Its Sense2 stock froyo. Works mostly well.
So, did they ever fix those graphic glitches people keep complaning about?
MIUI builds are very slick, very impressive on the HD2, can't imagine it being any slicker or faster as there seems to be zero lag whatsoever.

I have the same question (which ROM to use?) but this post still doesnt not give me a clear answer. I have been using Mikhei777 sense 3.0 version (original) but it has lots of lag and is fairly sluggish. He has upgraded it a few times but now seems to be spending more time on the sense 3.5 version. Its my wifes phone so do not want to keep trying new versions. Just want someone to recommend a known good stable version...
Thanks

Strange, I can't find that one here:
http://android.hd2roms.com/
I've been using Mikhei777's Android 2.2.1 Sense 2.0 rom for quite some time. It works great and haven't had any problems at all with it. The wifi hotspot works also. Not sure about bluetooth and USB tethering stuff. Don't use them. He deleted a lot of the useless system apps but there is a rar file you can download from the first post that has all of the deleted stuff in case there is something you want to put back in it. I've only put on Facebook and the text to speech stuff. I'm not using an ext on my phone since I have a TMOUS HD2 so, I don't have memory issues. Give it a try. If you don't like it you can always flash something else.

if you want a good rom with everything working, miui is the way to go. If your friend is not a hardcore techie, he better stays away from those Sense roms. try it for yourself and compare.. but seriously feature wise Sense is so outdated compared to miui (except the htc widgets maybe).

The worst about MIUI, it's that laggish launcher/desktop.
I don't know why... it fells "low frame rate".

That's why I use PAT's MIUI Rom with Sense launcher. It combines the best of the 2 world's. Very fast, customizable and everything is working like in other MIUI rom's and a very good, customizable launcher with the most important sense widget's.
No graphic glitches, not a disabled GPU acceleration and camcorder with full resolution and without lags. And the newest Android 2.3.7 version.
Use this rom since some month's, will never go back to the slow sense rom's. Only the dialer facebook integration of the sense dialer isn't there, but I don't have facebook and Co. But there is already an alternative dialer on the market, probably he can also display the actual feelings (posted in facebook) of the incoming caller and such nonsense.

now you have surprised me not sure which version of miui you are refering to, but i am on jan-willems miui and there is zero lag (its butter smooth) on the luncher. basically there are no issues at all.
btw installing a 3rd party launcher on miui is a no go, as it decrases the fuctionality.. people no offense, but you need to read the miui bible

When i get a call from a Facebook contact i can actually see its profile pic from facebook. On contact details i also see his status or last comment or whatever its called clicking on it, opens the facebook app and goes to this comment. is that what you meant?
If you are looking for a good ROM, Team Blue Droid have produced an excellent sense 3.5 Rom which looks the business and works far better than many others I have flashed recently on mh EU HD2. I am not that technically minded regarding SD card partition types, but I run mine via SD card after flasing a 1024 partition using CMR and the accompanying DAF.exe.

But no hardware acceleration or with graphical glitches, only the new sense kernels should solve this problem. I don't know if there already stable.
