Racks SD honeyomb SD image question - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I used Win32 on a 4GB SD card and it's showing up in windows as only 115MB in size, I'm new to the SD card setup and I missing something?
Also using the SD setup where would i put my backup files from Titanium Backup on the card so i can restore the apps.
I'm testing out the new version before possible flashing.
Thanks in advance.
I'd ask in the Dev thread but still haven't posted enough.

[Q] Upgrading from 4gb sd to 8th sd?

So all i want to do is take everything off my 4gb sd card and use an 8gb sd card so that I have more storage space. Everything works great as is, and I wanted to keep everything as is. Just need more storage space. I've looked through the forums and haven't found anything that addresses this process. I am running CyanogenMod 7.0.3 w/a 4gb sandisk micro sd card. How do I copy so that it boots just like my 4gb card???? Thanks ahead of time for any help.

I recommend just writing an image file with winimage. Then writing it to a 8gb card, then using Easeus Partition manager to expand the last partition to full 8 gb.'
Do you boot from the SD card or eMMC?
If it's the latter, just copy the contents of the old card to the new one.
If it's the former, I recommend a fresh install; use a backup program (MyBackup, Titanium Backup) to back up your Apps and Data and then restore when you're done with the fresh install.
I'd like to do this as well.. in response to previous reply.. there are 4 partitions (boot, 2 other and last one with your data) do I have to create 4 different images with winimage or just for the first boot partition or does the winimage creates the image of the whole msd card?
The winimage will create a 4 gb image of your card on the 8 gb cards including existing partitions. What you'll need to do is get the largest partition to expand to the whole card. Assuming that the 4gb install on SD is the same as an 8 gb install if you did it fresh.
If the partitions are set different for 8 gb on a fresh install, you're better off just doing a fresh install and use titanium backup as the other guy said.

That's a good point, the Size-agnostic SD installer uses different partition sizes for everything except the boot partition depending on the size of the card.
I tried winimage first to see if it even worked. Which it didn't. I didn't try to expand the existing partition. It just booted as a normal nook. You would think this would be a easy process but.... Lol, always new challenges. Guess that's why I enjoy doing this.
Well I tried yet again w image, expanded the partition. Still. Didn't work. I must be missing something. How hard can it be to make a copy of a bootable card? Must b brain dead today! Any other thoughts? Thanks!

I have done this several times, and I recommend downloading easus todo backup free. Then place both sdcards in a card reader, run todo backup and just copy the 4g to the 8g and expand the fourth partition right there in todo.
This applies especially if you want to copy to same size sd's, as you will not run into the usual image sizing issues.
Hope this helps
I don't know what you're doing wrong. before expanding the partition, make sure the sd boots, if it doesn't, then there's a problem with image being read or written as opposed to the partition.
I also had a problem with a new SD card not booting that I fixed by using the nook (that is the core nook OS) to reformat the card, then put the image onto the SDcard (shouldn't have changed anything as far as I know, but it did anyway).
Ok I tried this and it worked flawlessly. Used win32diskimager to "read" my 4gb sd with cm7 image. and then used "write" to 8gb sd card. It cloned 4 gb original image with 4 partitions and one unused partition of 4 gb. After that used easeus partition manager(latest version) to format unused pattition to fat32 and then merged with last partition of 2gb (move/resize) ..so now I have 6 gb of data partition which i can use to transfer files or move apps from nook's internal drive. The new 8gb card with cm7 image booted without any issues keeping my original settings of 4gb. One thing to mention that somehow it did not work on one pc with windows xp (kept getting write error on win32diskimager program)but worked on my laptop with windows 7.
That is exactly how I have done it in the past as I described in my first post. I don't know why a person would have trouble with it unless there was a format issue (i.e. ntsf, etc).

Partioning 8gb SD card, and running GDX v010

Sorry, but another basic question which I've searched for the answer but can't find an answer that makes sense to me.
I have an x8 running on Gingerdx v010. Runs great.
I have just been given a 8gb Micro SD Card, Class 10.
What's the best way to go about swapping the stock sd card with this new one - do i just copy and paste all off the old sd card onto my desktop, and then copy all that back to the new sd card?
Or do I need to partition the card in any special way?
I'm a beginner at this, so please don't get too technical!
I'd like to put some music on the new card, and I reckon i've got a few GB of albums etc to put on it. also, will probably try to put as much as possible on it to make sure there's plenty of available RAM in the internal memory.
Thanks in anticipation of your help.
This is a really useful site - glad I found it.

bump... anyone?
Backup copy/move all the files in old sdcard to PC. Insert your new sdcard and boot, enter CWM>advanced option>partition sdcard>select 512mb>then zero swap. reboot. Then copy/move ur files to new sdcard You can also partition using windows You just need partition if you are installing many apps like me
Partitioning is not required, just copy data over from old card to new card.

[Q] How do I backup SD Card ROM (Apps +System Data)?

Hi,
I have the DL DesireZ SD MAGLDR Android ROM for HTC HD2 on SD and LEO "Stock Desire" on NAND. I have been using the SD card ROM for about a week now and am happy with it. I would like to backup all apps + System Data & cache (of the sd card ROM) and restore the same to a higher capacity card.
Which would be the best way to do it? (I do have CWM installed through ROM Manager on the sd card ROM).
If I boot into another ROM from the same SD card, will it pick up the apps+data+cache from it?
Will the backup be created on on the sd card or internal memory? I'm not sure there is enough space on internal memory.
I apologise if my question has been asked/explained earlier on this forum. I did try to search for an answer, but was not very sure; as this is also my first stint at backing up.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Jiggy
If you plan on using the same build on the new SD card, then just copy the Data.img over. If you are changing builds, use Titanium Backup free on the Android market. This will create a copy of anything you need on a folder on your SD card, and you can restore this at any time.
sd roms live in their own folder. just move this folder to the other sd. all your information and apps are in data.img in that folder. but just in case use titanium backup.
all sd roms use their folders. so you can use more than one sd-rom naming their folders differently with very few problems.
Thank You Nigeldg and mutil for your prompt replies.
Really appreciate it!

I use Titanium Backup free, too.
You can choose "Backup all Apps + system Data" and restore them on every ROM you use.
I have just downloaded Titanium backup free - will be backing up and switching cards shortly.
I've switched the cards, and everything seems to be working fine. Thanks for the help, everyone!
The only thing is, the internal storage has not increased, even though I have increased the partition size of ext2, could it be because I've just dumped all folders on FAT32? Anyway, that's not a major issue.

Partitioning SD card. Need a little advice.

Hey kids. I've just flashed to CM7 and i figure now is as good a time as any to FINALLY partition my SD card and use it like i should. Problem is, i've been moving apps to the SD card for months. No doubt there are remnants of app installations from prior ROMS. How do i go about cleaning out the dead weight before i backup the card and partition it?
You can backup your SD Card the reformat it with Windows in a card reader, put it back and partition it, boot up and the required files will write themselves, then move the stuff you KNOW you need back to the SD Card. Flash a new ROM or A2SD and you should be set

[Q] Basic question: Rooted with NookManager, what should I do with my SD card?

Hi,
I know this is fairly basic, but I'm really confused about what I should do with my SD card now.
I've read quite a few threads about different ways of rooting nook device, and so far I found NookManager is the most easy and understandable one (I'm a beginner ) And it is running perfectly on my Nook 2 at the moment.
For most of the root methods, they say one should use 'SD Formatter' to format the disk (i.e SD card) if the user is happy with the ROM, as in their methods the user should have already backed up before hand on the PC. However with NookManager, I did the backup during the root process in my SD card as instructed.
And I have realised that 'My file' is under the 'NookManager' disk, so I imagine everything should keep as it is in the SD card?
But I also notice that my 4GB SD card shrank to about 63MB when I wrote 'NookManager.img' in my card..
Plus NookManager loading page appears every time when I reboot if the SD card is inserted.
So I'm really confused now, could anyone help?
Many thanks !!!

By #2 straygecko from NookManager thread:
A 2GB SD card is fine. Even a 1GB SD card would work if you don't have a huge amount of books already on your NST. NookManager is a 64MB image so when you flash it you'll only see a 64MB SD card. Boot your NST with it and when you make a backup NookManager will make a second partition on the SD card using up the rest of the space on the card and put the backup there. Because Windows won't see the second partition with the backup on the SD card once the backup is complete and before you exit NookManager use your usb/microusb cable to plug your NST into your PC. You'll see two drives appear on your PC - Nook Manager and Nook Backup. Copy the backup off the Nook Backup drive. Eject the two drives on the PC then go ahead and root the NST and exit NookManager.
At this point if you put you put your SD card into your NST you will only see the 64MB NookManager partition. If none of the apps you want to load require an SD card you could just leave the SD card out of the NST and you'll still have room for books on the internal memory. But I found a lot of apps require the SD card and an SD card gives you room for oodles of books if you need it. If you don't have another SD card to use in your NST then you'll need to repartition and format your SD card. Put the SD card into your PC card reader and use a partition manager (Minitool Partition Wizard, Paragon Partition Manager 12 Free or your favorite) to delete the two partitions on the SD card and create a new FAT32 partition that takes up the whole card. To make my life easier if I need to go back to the backup I made a drive image of the SD card before I repartitioned it. Put the SD card back in your NST and you're good to go.

Thank you. I have just read it again. Obviously I missed out your important post when I first read it, as the thread is fairly long
I got my answer now, thanks again.
My 2 cents:
After many problems with the dates of files on the SD card mysteriously changing by a few integral hours I decided that I had had enough with FAT systems.
(FAT stores timestamps in local time, a recipe for anomalies.)
For many, this might not be an issue, but if you are using things that sync using timestamps, it will be.
See: ADB sync utility - adbsync
My solution is to use the ext3 filesystem on an SD card.
See: vold, using ext3 on SD, USB drives
