Apples sickens me. Douchebags that buy cheap hardware and labor from asia and sells it for insane prices (buying them on contract is better but in sweden we often just want to buy the phone). And clames they developed and done it all by them self.
Even ideas are taken from chines developers.

All modern 'smart' phones look similar to a degree. I just think crApple are wasting their own time and money with this and I hope the US courts get fed up quickly and file this in the bin.

Too late for what? They've surpassed Microsoft as the #1 tech company, I don't really see what's too late.
More practically, these little corporate games have been going on for so long over so little that I really couldn't care less either way. If Apple and Samsung are happy to chum the bottom feeders, good for them. I believe the saying that best describes the situation is "**** rolls downhill and then nothing happens". No loss here.

Funny thing Apple has already or in the process of signing a multi million contract with Samsung to mass produce all of their screens...lol newbcakes then they file a lawsuit. Steve_o and there newbcake law team must have forgot about the screen deal haha.

Like the 600 bucks you need to get yourself a 10" IPS iPad with 3g? As opposed to the apparently cheaper 7" 3G Galaxy tab that went for 800 bucks at launch? Considering the similar hardware?

I remember reading something about this over on Gizmodo, I think their stock price surpassed Microsoft, however I attempted to find the story, I was not able to find it.
I agree with you, Mircosoft is a much larger company. Apple may have beaten them in the Phone and MP3 market but they still rain supreme in the PC OS market.

I believe what is being referred to is Apple's Market Capitalization, which is basically share price * number of shares.
More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Market_capitalization
And indeed it seems to be the case that their market cap is now greater than Microsoft's, as Apple shares have experienced explosive growth since the recovery of the stock market a couple of years ago.

You can't sue for it period. If they ever achieved monopoly status (not going to happen, there's too much competition) it would be an FCC matter.

Its a smart move on their part. They have nothing to lose. Samsung is not going to abandon 7 billion dollars in sales to Apple no matter how sued they are. Apple, if they win, will sue the **** out of every Android OEM trying to increase the cost of Android just like Microsoft has successfully done.
Also, Samsung blatantly copied some parts from iOS, specifically the icons. Other parts of the lawsuit are less obvious.

Anyone who thinks Samsung would turn down a multi billion dollar contract from Apple is delusional. You guys do know that when Samsung wants to build a phone of its own, it has to go and bid on Samsung parts to include in said phone, right? Its not like their phone division says "lets build a Galaxy S II" and then walks down the hall to grab a bunch of Super AMOLED + screens. They have to bid on those parts the same as Apple does. Yes, it sounds ridiculous, but apparently LG does the same thing.

You are right on with that and it is not as uncommon as you might think. I have seen it first hand. It seems like a counterintuitive way to run a business, but there are a lot of business practices that seem strange.
Now that I think about it, Sony also runs business like this. Their gaming, movie production, cell phones, etc. are all almost completely different companies. The reason why the Xperia Play isn't called the Playstation Phone is because their cell division doesn't have the rights to use that trademark.

It was a rhetorical question -_-
Samsung should start shipping parts to Apple that when the iphone user presses talk, it shocks the person, or just simple stuff that the phone fails after a while. Then people will get frustrated with the iphone and bye-bye iphone.

Apple may curb US sales of SGS II

"Apple may also curb any S II release since it has expanded its complaints to factor in the phone and possibly ban its sale if the complaint is upheld".
http://www.samfirmware.com/apps/blog/show/7590667-samsung-breaks-own-record-with-galaxy-s-ii-sales
This could be a good thing for US buyers and keep the value of the phone up.
However I am still trying to wade through the process differences between the Captivate and SGS II since I will be flashing both.
Hilarious considering how much of Apple's hardware is made by Samsung.
Apple really do make me laugh, use other people's ideas then try to pass them off as their own to the point of taking other companies to court if they use the same ideas.

True. So since almost one year ago the iphone 4 came out in black, a few months ago the newest was in white! What's next? Transparent (cool!)? And raise it another 100 bucks? Here in Spain the WHITE 32 gig model is 50 euros more expensive than its black counterpart. They're charging more .... FOR COLOR!? isn't that some sort of racism? lol.
Its just business and apple is the master of it...for now.
Steps to a successful apple product launch:
1) Identify competing products that came first, and are better
2) Sue them, and get an injunction on the sales of the product
3) Release sub-standard product to an uncompetitive market
....
5) winning

i hate apple, and the fact their marketing seems to work on so many people...
Apple has been known to release it's products in a period of the year when most do not release hardware.this is to enable iphone to be the only hype on tv, as opposed to many companies all advertising their new gadget and sharing the crowd.
Also, Apple makes tons of money through a marketing technique it's a master for.i don't blame them.
Problem now is, they've been selling low spec gadgets at premium prices while the others were sleeping. Now Samsung is up, releasing a Super amoled phone, micro sd slot, bluetooth working with all devices, wireless sync, keyboard integrated voice control and the list goes on. This is a SERIOUS treat even to the most robust apple marketing techniques. They are therefore trying to clear the best phone out of the way in preparation for the iphone 5 arrival.
They've updated ios by copying lots of android functions and a release with SGS2 on the way will prompt alot of comments like ' this resembles such and such function of the SGS2', instead of the other way round as had been the norm.this has the potential of dilluting or destroying apple's brand name, something they are ready to pay any price to avoid.
If they band SGS2, tab 10.1 in the US, samsung should also request for all iphones to be taken off shelves in europe, korea etc, when they win their own court case.

Apple is really worth burning down.they sued a company for using a GUI on their software without license. Watchout for them patenting the android notification centre and all the open source ideas they've stolen to later sure them next year.

HTC is already paying MS for each Android phone sold, if they have to pay Apple too it may become prohibitively expensive to sell them and still make enough profit. I don't know how much they pay MS or potentially Apple but it's a possibility.
Not Android but HTC is a piece of the puzzle. And they compete with OEMs not Android.

Well, lets Google.
http://www.businessinsider.com/htc-pays-microsoft-5-per-android-phone-2011-5
Lets see what we have here. We have people that wants Apple (an American company) to fail. We have the same people who wants HTC, LG, Samsung, and etc (all foreign companies) to take down apple. I don't follow the line of reasoning.
I don't like GM cars but I sure don't want them to fail or be underdog to the foreign markets.
I'd rather bug HTC for source code to 2.3.3 update
As for buy american, I agree but I also disagree: https://www.insightcommunity.com/case.php?iid=1333 (move down)
'Buying American' used to mean more than buying an American based company's goods ... mainly product made in America. Or at least for the most part. The two might be based (for the most part), as a whole, in two different regions ... in a way. But they are essentially coming from similar locations, in this case; not America / US.
But, hey ... 'merica! *waves mini flag*

Lets say that Apple makes it $10 a handset. How much does HTC pay for a WP7 license? I've heard $5-10, that makes it more espensive or equal. But then consider the additional costs: a WP7 license comes with IP protection (HTC is spending a lot of money fighting MS and Apple), then there's QA testing that has to be handled by the OEM, development costs for drivers, and then finally design and development costs for HTC sense. Android itself is free but creating/selling a consumer version of it isn't. Is $10/handset + the additional costs too much? I have no idea but I don't think it helps.

Apple Tries to Block Samsung Tablets in Australia

Seriously is apple really that scared?
I really hope this doesn't delay the Australian release.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-...samsung-from-selling-tablet-in-australia.html
They must be that scared
you never heard anything from apple until just recently when the android phones and tablets are really starting to challenge apple, they now see android and the companies that make android phones/tabs as a threat and they cant develop iOS fast enough to stay ahead so are now doing all they can to slow the pace of the android train down.
lets be honest iOS has been the same since launch and it really needs a overhaul.
Seriously?! I used to respect apple with there innovation and cutting edge technology but since they began all these lawsuits and injunctions I have totally lost all respect for them and their "big bully boy" attitude towards its competition. Shame on Apple! They must really fear the 10.1 TAB... Maybe alienating themselves from Samsung who made a fair bit of Apple's components wasn't such a good idea....
For now, Apple has successfully blocked the sale of the galaxy tab 10.1 in Australia till the lawsuit is settled. who know how long that is. I really hope samsung blocks the ipad3!
I don't think Apple is scared, the iPad is way too dominate at this point, I just think they're greedy assholes.

I wouldn't be too sure. Second quarter numbers show that Apple's share of tablets shipped in the second quarter dropped from 96% in 2010 to just over 60% in 2011. Android's market share increased from 2.9% to over 30%.

Good for Samsung. TBH, they should just kiss & make up. It would benefit if both sides were to do that in the long run.
The tab is now delayed thanks to Apple. I cant believe they are complaining about "touch and feel" and "finger gestures". The only finger gesture Samsung should give apple is....
http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2011/08/samsung-officially-postpones-galaxy-tab-10-1-launch-event/
It's great, a mate of mine has an iPad 2 and I've got my GT10.1 and we can't see any similarities between either of them when we compare em. They're two entirely different beasts for different consumers.
He had a play around with my Tab and was like "dude, this is so different from what I'm used to with the iPad".
I have an iMac and MBP at home. So an iPhone and load would make alot of media swapping easier. But honestly, Android allows me to design the device interface better for how I need it for quick access on the go.
Apple may find themselves on the other side of those law suits when they finally decide to overhaul their UI. Serious, their iOS5 redesign of notifications has been in Android since 1.0! Watch out Apple.... your doing exactly what you are accusing others of doing to you. All you need is to be the Microsoft of the 2000's .... you recall how you dealt with them right? Next you'll be developing an Android iTunes App and an Android iPhone/iPad.
Tread lightly with all your lawsuits. I came to Apple for home computing because my needs are DJ, remix, and simplicity and great one stop support between the two environments. Don't make me regret trusting you by worrying about only the competition and not your customers

Oh well, got my 7.7 months ago. Now Samsung just need to come out with 7.7 ver 2 which they just need to tweak the design.
A stupid patent that patent a generic rectangular black tablet with rounded corners. Thought I saw that years ago on LCD photo frames. And they spent months if not a year on this in court. Seriously Apple, time to move on and actually innovate.

Sammy is the only threat to apple.

Pretty lame. All these lawsuits are bad for consumer choice and they are based on such trivial broad patents.
Funny that this **** is only passing in Germany.

Well, lets put a bit of spin on this. THIS is the device Apple were worried about.
Hopefully gives Samsung reason to make a 7.7 mkII with a few tweaks just to rub their noses in it.
Maybe a 7.7 Note.

Patent trolls nothing more, I'm sure the 7.7 really put a dent into apple's sales, as did the rest of the galaxy tab lineup, oh wait.

Apple certainly 'innovate' - I don't think anyone has tried patent trolling a product that's already been available a year before your own device comes out, before. Way to go Apple, you've done what was previously considered impossible.
I guess this is what happens when you take a litigation-crazy company and combine it with a cash pile of billions of dollars.

I suspect that Germany has a more lax definition of what constitutes copyright infringement than most other EU countries.
There were 4:3 aspect ratio tablets (Windows) before the iPad -- even had IPS screens. Motion Computing should sue Apple for billions.
The automakers should be suing each other because every car has four tires/tyres. :silly:
After all this Crap I think Apples Pooped in its OWN NEST...
like what another member said in another thread, its Apple's way of telling people in EU to wait for their iPad Mini and to hold off from buying the competitions products
let it be...it is just a beginning of Apple's end.....not able to innovate = not able to compete soon
we know it, Apple knows it, just customers do not know it.....but that is why Apple is so scared of innovations
just say everywhere what iRotten Apple is doing and thats all we can do now

I agree. Also there were tablet computers like the iPad in 1984's movie "2010: The Year We Make Contact". Director Peter Hyams should sue the hell out of apple for copying that design!
This whole sueing thing is getting really ridiculous. Shame on apple for beeing not only childish, but also a bad loser.
Didn't feel this needed a new thread but noticed this from the sammie vs apple trial on the verge

Why is the 7.7 crossed out with "high risk for volume"
unfortunately I can't seem to find the documents from where this slide came from.
