On my atrix there are multiple APN's. There's AT&T US, AT&T US HSDPA, AT&T US Tether, and AT&T US MMS. They're all pretty much self explanatory except for the difference between AT&T US and US HSDPA; what's the difference? Also, does the phone switch between APN's automatically if you tether or use mms?
I tried creating a new APN so I could tether without buying a tethering plan using the settings here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11493471&postcount=193
Do I need to set up a new one because the default APN will switch to AT&T US Tether and AT&T will track that?
That actually didn't work, my computer only has limited connectivity when it connects to the network. Does anyone know why? I'm thinking of trying Barnacle Tether if I can't get the APN to work, but will AT&T be able to see I'm tethering if I use that?
Tether is for them to know you are tethering using at&t's method. That way they can monitor usage. Hspa is 4g. Install custom rom and use mobileap. If not, root and use android wifi tether.
You need to install customs rom which support it

I want to know, does wifi tethering on this rom need that extra tethering plan from at&t, or does it work with my regular data plan. Don't want to start using it and having at&t charging me double what im paying now just to use the data i have the way i want >.<

With Liberated FR008 the wifi tethering uses the phone's data connection and does not require the AT&T tethering package.
Liberated will allow you to to tether, but you might want to watch out for a notice from AT&T. If they somehow figure out you're tethering, they automatically switch you to the tethered plan.
Ok, thanks both of you. I don't think i will get the message considering I only have a 200 mb data plan, and the only place i will use the tether is my iPod touch. Plus i dont think anybody using android has gotten the message yet, just iPhone users.
Hey everyone, I want to enable the wifi hotspot on my aT&T atric, the problem i have is that i have un unlocked atrix and im in Chile. All the intructions i find are for AT&T and adding AT&T APN, is there any other way to enable this for users outside of AT&T?

Thanks for the reply, i saw that already but i´m looking for a way to enable the native wifi hotspot trhat the atrix comes with.
Hi!
I'm at Colombia, and I was able to use the AT&T hotspot, until the 1.83 update .
After that, it did not work anymore.... When I tried to activate it, asked about AT&T authorization or something like that .
Then, I rooted my Atrix and now use Barnacle.... a lot better than AT&T's hotspot.
Hope it helps.
well, modding the build.prop worked for me in Mexico. Anyway, barnacle and wifitetherforrootusers is adhoc, so you will want official hotspot
Hey All I did a search on the forums for this but didn't see an answer so wanted to put this question out there.
My work allowed me to upgrade my work phone from the standard BB to a Samsung Vibrant. When I got the phone and put my T-Mobile SIM in, the phone worked but internet would not. I called support and found out that this was because my plan through work was for BB internet not Android. The same SIM chip works fine in a Nexus One that I have. I get internet access and everything.
So I thought that maybe if I get my Vibrant unlocked then I would be able to bypass that BB Internet plan requirement. Through my work we got the unlock code from T-Mobile. The unlocked, rooted Vibrant running CM 7 still won't connect to the internet.
is there anyway I can get internet connectivity on the Vibrant, other than asking T-Mobile to change the plan?
Thank you in Advance.
You can try changing the APN under Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile networks > Access Point Names
although, I don't know what APN your plan uses.. you can research and find what APN your plan uses and it SHOULD work if you enter the right one...
But don't take my word for this. I can be wrong!
Btw, in the APN menu, is there anything there already?
Make sure u save the apn when done. Dont just exit out

Hey everyone, I have an unlocked G900T coming in the mail, and I really want to hotspot using this phone, but I've seen several people talking about how T-Mobile blocks tethering on the S5. I plan to root and use Wifi Tether Router, but I have some questions.
Will Wifi Tether Router work since I will be using AT&T instead of T-Mobile? I'm really confused about this tether block thing, is it just blocked on the T-Mobile network specificly or is tethering blocked through ALL network providers on this phone?
I didn't know if it was simply an APN setting or if it was some kind of block integrated into the phone ROM itself.
Thanks,
Dylan
I know you know this now but it works on at&t as that's what I'm using. Same phone and all.
My T-Mobile 6T has been great so far, but when I used the hotspot earlier today I was disappointed by the wireless tethering speeds. I popped the SIM card back into my old phone (unlocked Mate 9) and, although wireless speeds were slower overall, the tethering was much faster. I attempted to edit the APN settings, but everything was grayed out. I was able to add my own APN, but when attempting to enter 'APN type' received a message saying "Carrier does not allow adding APNs of type dun." Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this? Is T-Mobile trying to get me to pay more for 4G tethering by somehow slowing my hotspot to below 3G speeds? Would the international ROM be able to circumvent this?
Thanks
if you're paying for 4G tethering, then call T mobile and ask for help
If you're trying to steal it without paying for it, thats a different story

Not trying to steal 4G, just wondering why the 6T's hotspot is slow much slower than my old phone when the the phone itself is so much more capable. My Mate 9 gets closer to full 3G speeds (500Kbps) when tethering.
Thanks
The only stealing that would be going on is the carrier trying to get him to pay for the same data twice.
