I had widget locker installed, it was working great since yesterday. Today this problem started.
Once the screen goes off/sleep, I can not turn it back on. Using either the home or power button. I removed widget locker, and set the home action back to ADW Launcher.
The phone is seemingly still working, because I was on a 10 min phone call, but after the screen would not come back on, so I couldn't end the call or use it at all. I have to pull the battery, and turn the phone on to use it, of course that's only useful until the screen goes off again lol.
Any ideas? I am going to wipe it/reapply the rom tonight to see if that fixes it, but not sure how it could be software now since the only new app lately was widget locker and I've uninstalled it. I also got rid of NoLed just in case it was that, although it wasn't enabled.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
I also noticed something while using Widgetlocker, sometimes when i unlock my screen, the "BACK" softkey when pressed does not vibrate the phone! the menu one does... I need to lock the screen and unlock again and voila... its working
Seems like Widgetlocker is bringing lots of problems
check what software you have installed recently
most likely one of those apps is keeping the screen off

Well the ones I installed recently was Widget Locker. Before that I didn't have the problem, and I've removed that app. I haven't installed anything else in the past day.
I was just reading about setcpu potentially having this problem. Which would be weird since I've had that installed for a week and just now am having issues. I'm playing with it's settings now.
you can always to a quick format and restore the settings to ROM default

and reinstall each app, to see which one caused the problem
Hi,
Im having some problems with the gyro, or the accelerometer.
It seems to work fine when the phone is just started, but after a while, not sure how long, it stop working. I can no longer use the browser in landscapemode by tilting the phone, and games like labyrinth stop working. (Seems like some sensor give full output...).
A reboot of the phone seems to help, for a little while.
Anyone else having problems with this?
Did you off the rotating ?

No issue with mine

Stopped working again now. Took 30 minutes or something.
Uncheck and check the Autorotation does not help..
However, google sky map is still working, even if it feels "choppier"...
Edit: Sky map stopped working as well now...
i am having similar issue with the auto rotation when i attempt o text message!
Installed a sensor debug program, and all accelerometer values a fixed...
And after an restart they are moving just fine.
Any chances this is a hardware problem? Going back to europe in a few days, so if I gonna try to return it, it has to be soon...

Same here, happened to me just once when in like the first hour of using the phone. I restarted, never happened again after that.
First thing I do wit my phones is turn off auto rotate. I did he same with Nexus S. I decided to turn it back on for a change. Turns out autorotate won't work at all! I rebooted, and it still won't work.
EDIT: Okay it seems to work now, except the home screen. Do home screens not work in landscape?

As far as I know, home screens don't rotate.
I'm having same problem.... I think its a software issue

I'm having the problem.
Happened to me once last night. Back to normal afterre reboot.

I see this happening to quite a few people, still no issue with mine.

Ok I'm pretty sure this is a software issue, I have replicated it many times first open Google system maps and mess a round with it a bit then when you come out you won't be able to rotate unless you reboot. Try it people.

The cause of this problem is googl sky maps

Had this issue the second day I got it but ever since I restarted it. It's been fine!
I have developed a small lockscreen problem. I can't get the lock screen to come up anymore. When i go into standby through time out of pressing power the screen just goes black and doesn't kick into the lockscreen anymore.
I'm sure its a software error and a re-image would fix it but i'd like to fix this without having to do this.
I'm using mdj gingerbread cyanogenmod 7 v2.3 NAND. The rom itself works perfectly and i've had no problems until now.
I have noticed that the fade out screen that is on this rom doesn't happen any longer. When i press power the screen just goes black. then i press it again no matter the wait the screen just comes straight back on where i left it
Checked through cyanogenmod settings and the lockscreen is set to instant after standby and time out but still nothing.
help i've been calling and e-mailing the world from my pocket!
I don't know what your problem is but I am willing to bet that the issue has been caused by an app that you have downloaded and is now conflicting with the lockscreen. Have you downloaded and lockscreen replacements (eg Widget Locker), or maybe a screen off app (eg Screen Off)?
Either way, perform a restore and you'll be fine.
You did backup your system didn't you?!
Its not from a lock screen app but from a general app just not sure which one. Removed my last few installed apps but its no different. Everything is backed up I'd just rather try and fix the problem and wait to reimage when 2.3 with sense comes out. There has to be a way

I have the same problem. it happend the first time yesterday on Typhoon CM7 2.2 build. so I figured that it must have been an error in that build, so I updated to Typhoon CM7 2.3.3 today, and it was fine until for 10 minutes ago, but now it's back, I tried calling my phone from another phone, but nothing came up other than the backlight, there's still sound and vibration, but no display picture. :S
Lol Ive fixed this now there is an option in battery indicator pro that disables the lock screen. I accidently disabled the lock screen

Hello all. I used the "force" update method on my 1.3 Focus, and it went smooth. But I've noticed some quirky behavior since upgrading to Mango.
Most annoying is how my screen starts to lag out or tick when I come back to the home screen tiles.
Or when changing my pictures hub background pic, and it doesn't change on the live tile until I head back into the application and exit back out again.
Thanks in advance for any advice, or comments

I would suggest doing a full reset after upgrading. I know its a pain but it seemed to make a difference for me.
If I do a reset, will I have to do "force" update again?
Thanks again for your response.

No you don't have to force update again as full reset or any reset will reset the settings and delete all of your files but will not reset the operating system to it's originally bought with,

No need, after reset you will have the latest OS you upgraded to.
I have noticed that I can no longer highlight/copy n paste while viewing text messages, I have no idea why.
Also, I cannot for the life of me get the "Read aloud incoming text messages" feature to work, have tried with bluetooth only, wired headset only etc. Nothing seems to work.
Also, alot of people are saying they can highlight any text and without copy n paste do a search by pressing the search key next to the home button and it will bing search anything highlighted for you. Cannot get that to work either.

I have this same issue and have done several hard resets in all the various ways. It didn't help. The live tiles were the obvious issue for me. When I remove the pictures hub and the Xbox tile everything flows smoothly. The quirky behavior comes back when I pin the live tiles.
Also, grouping live tiles close together exaggerates the issues. Tiles go blank when scrolling, the tick behavior becomes more frequent and more intense. My WPBench scores are really low too. Something is going on.
A couple things I've noticed since I forced the upgrade to Mango.
1. It's restarted by itself twice when I was trying to go into an app.
2. After the phone is powered on, sometimes all the tiles are all stuck in the theme color and non-responsive. It takes about a minute for the tiles to be functional.
I exchanged my phone just when Mango was release so I don't know if it's a hardware issue with my phone or software issue.

I have several friends with WP7 phones here and none of us experienced any of 1&2, except 1 for HD7, but that's a known issue. Seems like a hw issue.
Alright, for those of us who HAVE upgraded, both those who have the problem with screen rotation and not.. Can we collaborate to get this fixed?
My first thought was search the phone for a file with a setting changed somewhere.
I used Fx to search the phone and find things with "rotat" in the name (rotation) and I only got 3.
persist.sys.screen.rotation.Off (value inside = -1)
com.sec.android.smartface.smart_rotation.xml (see value below)
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<permissions>
<feature
name-"com.sec.android.smartface.smart_rotation" />
</permissions>
stayrotation.jar (opened and all I see is computer gibberish)
Anyone out there have suggestions? @elliwigy suggestions?
Does anyone have a copy of the first 2 files from 4.4.4 that they can share copies of or post screen shots of for reference?

my rom rotation has been working for me 100% and i flashed stock ota, muniz build and my roms like 10+ times lol dunno how it was before but mine rotates?
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Free mobile app
Mine was rotating initially after flashing the rooted 5.0 rom. However, after some debloating, it has stopped working. I'll try troubleshooting when I have access to a PC to flash, but that will be a couple of days.
I finally got home and wiped my phone. I flashed KitKat, re-rooted and then upgraded to Lollipop again. I did a clean install this time and have been slowly adding my apps from the play store and restoring data from Titanium Backup. I have modified my platform.xml for TiBu, installed AdAway and started freezing SDM & KNOX one at a time. So far so good. Let's hope it stays that way. I haven't done any debloating yet.

I have no idea. I flashed Muniz myself, and idk why it won't work.. Weird.
Shouldn't I be able to do a Backup with TiBu and "Factory Reset" to see if it will work?

Same happened to me. I only debloated the verizon stuff and google play movies, books, play music, newstand, hangouts, google+, and nfl mobile. I even cleared davik after but Screen rotation stops working.
I reinstalled the rom again and screen rotation is working again. This time i just froze all the apps listed above with titanium backup and screen rotation is working now. I am afraid to debloat now. I even changed the boot and shutdown animation and shut off start up sound and camera shutter sounds and screen rotation still working
Used to debloat all the same stuff in kit kat. Not sure what the issue is as none of that stuff is OS related so not sure why it affecting the screen rotation.
----------------------------------------------------------
Update!!!!
reinstalled lollipop and used jrkruse debloat zip and screen rotation working and rom is debloated now!
I am on 4.4.4 NK7 and screen rotation isnt working. I debloated too fast to track which one disabled screen rotation.
Stock unrooted and no screen rotation
I received the Lollipop OTA last week. Since the upgrade my screen will not rotate. My phone, Verizon, is completely stock. Never been rooted. Any suggestions?
I figured it out. I knew as soon as I posted I would fix it. I disabled the "Support & Protection" app and voila all fixed.

So I spoke too soon. This worked for a little while and now the screen doesn't rotate again
No screen rotation
Same here after debloating. I noticed you can still rotate the screen in the camera app. I suppose it has nothing to do with the tethering Addon. I also read somewhere that many people without root have been experiencing problems with contacts crashing, so that issue has nothing to do with the process of keeping root. I'm just putting some things out there. I'm not an expert, but root savvy. it has to do with debloating. I'll reroot and debloat one item at a time. Also, what is jrkruse?
I've pretty much established it's a glitch in the lollipop update. My gyro and accelerometer stopped working shortly after I updated. I did a factory reset with no luck, so I odin'd back to 4.4. Gyro working. I go through the updates again and all was good until I got the lollipop update again.
So, I went ahead and rooted and installed a rom based on 5.0. Gyro worked for one day, then crapped out again. I know it's the sensors because I used galaxy tools to test them.
Hopefully it'll annoy one of the amazing dev 's around here and we'll get a fix. After VZW released 2 updates in a week, we all know they won't be in a hurry to fix it.
Same here went back to 4.4 everything works. My Co workers have stock 5.0 and the accell works fine. On a side note my 4.4 rooted s5 is smoother and snapper.
Ok... well, another month has gone by... the bloatware and Stock Lollipop on my Verizon G5 has been getting on my nerves lately...
It seems that Lollipop has serious issues with causing the Battery to overheat and drain too fast. I dealt with these... I got the Lollipop upgrade when it was rolled out, and got the phone a year ago... never rooted it...
So when this screen rotation started last week, I figured it was time to root and use a rom. I ASSUMED it was related to the update... so after doing the research...and downloading an Odin that infected my primary desktop with a nasty virus... I tried to factory reset in recovery mode. This fixed all my problems.. however now, 20hrs later my screen has stopped rotating again... I did debloat some last night and no issues when I went to bed with screen rotation... now tho... Its gone... both the button in the pull down menu and in my settings is telling me that screen rotation is ON... bUT I have nothing working... except my poker game that loads landscape by default...
If there is no fix for this problem.. I will be forced to Odin back, root this phone and then use a rom, just don't have the time for it again.... any ideas? Anyone? Anyone?
Having the same problem after updating. Rotation works in the camera app but nothing else. Any luck finding a solution?
My experience
My Samsung Galaxy S5 screen won't rotate neither. I'm an IT Tech by trade so I did a lot of investigating into this. This seems to be a known issue with Verizon Galaxy S5's, but I have seen complaints from TMobile and AT&T users as well. I've read plenty of quick fix suggestions on numerous sites. Here's what I've done... I did the "figure 8" trick, basically turning the phone over and over in all directions. No luck. I turned the screen rotation button off and on, nothing. I turned the rotation button off, powered down, pulled battery for 30 seconds, powered on, turned screen rotation back on. Nothing. I've wiped the system cache. Nothing. Now here's what's interesting...
I boot the phone in safe mode and still the rotation didn't work. However, when I boot back in to normal mode, all of a sudden it worked! It worked for a good 10 minutes. Then I turned the screen off with the power button (put phone in sleep mode). A few minutes later I got a text so I turned the screen back on, swiped to unlock, and behold, rotation didn't work again. I did the safe mode - to - normal mode cycle again and it worked again, but only until my screened turned off.
I decided it must be a 3rd party app. I decided to back up all my pics and contacts and did a factory reset. My intention was to slowly add my apps back, maybe 1 each hour, until I found the culprit. Screen rotation worked after factory reset, again up until the screen was turned off for more than a few seconds. I installed no 3rd party apps. In fact I didn't even open Google Play Store. The only thing I did was set up the weather/click widget. I powered down and back on (no safe mode involved) and screen rotate worked again, until the phone went to sleep again.
I figured this must be a Lollipop issue, so I flashed the rom back to Android 4.4.4 (KitKat) using oDin. Right from the get go the rotation didn't work. Reboot into safe mode, then normal mode, and behold, rotation worked. Temporarily. Now every time I reboot the phone it'll work for just a few seconds or minutes. It only works if I do a full shutdown, boot in safe mode, then boot in normal mode. I disabled SHealth and a bunch of other preinstalled apps, no effect. The only ones I'm not sure about, or can't disable without rooting, is SysScopeService (or SysScope) and Unified Daemon.
Phone is not rooted, though I'd like to figure out how to do this. Still running Android 4.4.4. So frustrating that I can't text sideways, view pics sideways, or videos. Annoying and yet no one seems to be able to figure this out.
S5 Screen will not rotate
I have the 'exact' same issue with my S5 after updating to 5.0.
- Boot into Safe Mode > Screen rotation not working
- Boot out of Safe Mode > Screen rotation will work until I turn off the screen or it times out..!
I can reproduce this scenario easily and every time. This is definitely a s/w bug.
ARE THE DEVELOPERS EVER GOING TO FIX THIS..? Very frustrating that there are so many issues with Android lately. I've always been an Android fan/user.
Maybe the iPhone is looking good right now

Suddenly have no auto-rotation too. Any ideas - how to fix?
Any solution? I have not auto rotation too. Plis help
Me, too. I wish i knew enough to fix this issue. I have contacted both Verizon and Samsung. Verizon said safe mode, factory data reset, sorry we can't help.
Second verizon guy said try the usb recovery tool. Says it goes deeper than factory reset as it pulls some of the latest OS files from Samsung (i don't know if this is true or not) I will try that tonight.
Samsung offered to replace the motherboard. Sounds like this will be futile as it isn't a hardware issue.
The struggle is real.
I was fortunately able to resolve my issue with a battery pull and restart. Might be coincidence, but the rotation issue started a few weeks after I got a wallet case for the phone. It may be a long shot, but could the magnetic latch on the phone case be a possible culprit to the gyroscope going out?
