Try the MIUI build (any). If you like the nexus one builds you will definitely love the MIUI build. If you don't like the iphone looking style just install ADW or launcher pro from the market. You will also need to use an android friendly wm rom. Use vbn with excellers multiple build loader both are found in the android development section. When you use the build loader app chose auto boot 3 seconds, ( you will know what I'm talking about when you are in the app). Hope this helps
i tryed just about every rom, got atleast 24hrs with all of them. most were 48+ with conditioning... for me bat life was more an isue of shutdown voltage in the kernel than any thing else..

Strange some people say to switch to that from Desire or Desire HD builds because it has better battery life ?
I am running
MDJ Revolution 1.7 with MDJ 7.6HD Kernel
Radio 2.15.50.14
I find that the above radio is better on battery than my previous 2.12.50.xx
Also the Kernel is better too.
But it depends on how much you play with your phone I get 3 - 7ma drain on my current setup but of course when you start calling or playing games it will easily go up to 200ma.
I find the above rom very stable I can't find anything that doesn't work and its fast enough for me I don't notice any lag or freezing.
I was thinking of switching to your ROM to try but if the battery life is that bad then I may stick with this.
guyz lil but of an update here still on the same rom and i've manged to last 14 hours and i still have 72 % in the battery, with very little usage a couple of texts couple minutes of browsing and some music
im using setcpu greenpower and advanced task killer
ssetcpu is at the minimum
advanced task killer set to auto kill - crazy (means it kills apps as soon as screen goes off)
greenpower set to manage wifi and mobile data, turns off wifi and data when there is low traffic and turns it off as soo ans the screen goes off
its working for me so far so just wanted to post it up incase anybody else wanted to know
Hi there
I just like to share my experience with battery drain in both JVK and JVB and give you a possible fix.
I experienced battery drain both in jvk and jvb and when you go setting - battery check, I would see high android OS - up to 60 percent which just drank the juice out of my phone.
I've decided to test all the apps, deleting one by one in order to locate which app was causing this problem and I found it to be "software update".
So here is a possible fix for you guys who are experiencing similar problem.
Go to setting - manage apps - all apps - find software update - delete data
In both JVK and JVB it solved my battery drain problem almost instanly.
I also did battery recalibration but doubt it played any part.
I hope above method will solve the battery drain problem.
P.S
does anyone know what exactly software update does?
and how to delete it completely off the phone.
I doubt I will be using OTA update or anything like that since I'm a big fan of odin.
Cheers
thanks man.
i'm checking it out, i really hope this solution works!
this is my second night in a row, where im going to sleep with exactly 89 percent battery and when i got up i saw the phone is at 8 percent.
made me so pissed i wanted to go back to my sony-erricsson from 2005

Hmm, this "fix" was kinda known a long time ago? (you can see it even in the thread called something with Android OS and few more) http://goo.gl/Hpc5a . And I think its the OTA update which does nothing currently. Hmm, am confused about your question. You ask what it does then you say you wont need it anyway .
And for example freeze it with titanium backup? Now when click the option it does nothing (no fc and phone works normally)

Yea just found out that this fix was known a long time ago.
Well, I hope this helps some people anyway..
anyone know how to delete this software update apk??
Do you read what I wrote? The same way you can freeze it, you can delete it... Best with titanium backup, should be foolproof enough. Do a backup before etc.
Deleted the data and also the apk! Nothing changed

So you are wrong here . This thread is like the other ones for the ppl with high Android OS usage. 9 percent is ok.
Well if display is 61 , how many hours on? And what else is there? More data we need.
When I was on JVK, I was able to fix the android OS problem but had another one where after playing a graphically intense game, the CPU would not ramp back down when the phone went to sleep. That was draining the battery a lot for me and the only way to fix it was to reboot the phone. I'm back on 2.2.1
Disabling software update seems to not work for me also, im using stock Ginger (latest version - probably final) and after 1-2 days after flash Android os is taking 70% of battery :/
Looks like software update isnt the issue.

I lost the data about it, but i have the screens about the test i made yesterday and the one i made today morning. Yesterday it was for the most time in standby with data off , and today i tried to leave it 3h in standby without touch it.
I lost 10% !! in 3h !! WITHOUT DATA! is really too much! With the 2.2.1 i used to lost 1% every 2-3 hours! ! And as you can see in the first day , in the last part i tried to use it (ONLY FOR READ A MANGA , so only img on the sd and i had the brightness to 20% ) O_O !
Help me :-/

That's bad ! I think i'll go back on a 2.2.1 untill the samsung release the kernel source :-/
I think an iphone is better , i can't have a working phone! I bought this phone because i love android!! I hate iOS but.. what the hell?!?! I have every day to stay hours & hours to search and try new roms or kernel in serching to find something with that i can use this PHONE like a PHONE ; and don't see a lag every 2seconds! The hardware of this phone is good! (really good!) But why the hell it doesn't work good? Now i finally found a rom (juwe's) that work really good ! But if i put the phone on the battery die! Also on the OFFICIAL (AN OFFICIAL? why official roms have bugs?!?!?!) i have battery drain problem!
And also the problem of the browser! It work really good on the 2.2.1 , and now on ginger it have a bug on the scroll! :-/
That's really bad! I hope samsung 'll do a great work on the sgs2 or that monster 'll not be exlpoit

The bugfix worked in my case!
I charged my phone to 100% in the forenoon (~11:00am) and I only had 21% left at 7:20 pm.
Now it's 11:30 pm and I still have 20% after I removed the data of the OTA-Update app.

Hello All,
I noticed there are a lot of posts regarding Battery Usage & Optimization...
I tried many many combinations of custom roms, basebands and kernels and I always face the same battery problem especially when 3G/MobileData is switched on.
I admit that Sony Ericsson gave us a ****ty stock rom with poor kernel however It's still the best rom in managing battery usage.
I made a small comparison on Stock rom VS Custom roms with 3G/MobileData left switched-on and I found the following:
Custom rom(s): battery drain down very fast it goes for 100% to 1% in less than 8 hours (normal apps installed)
Stock rom: battery lasts for 2-3 days with normal daily phone usage (same apps installed as i did in custom rom)
Please share your opinions.
Thanks,
Ayman
I don't agree at all...
Custom roms can have just as good, if not better, battery life.
I personally think this was a good idea. Nice post and info. Just curious, how long did you do this study with the data you got?

hey guys, i too have this issue, i dnt know if its device specific. ive had the phone since march(2010) last year and have been modifying it with the great mods that the devs hav given us. everytime i install a custom rom i just get unusual battery drain, like yesterday, i followed instructions to the letter and installed tripnravers miuifroyo 1.0.8 and i lost 10% battery in like 20 minutes n ive hardly used it :-(. so nowadays i stick wiv a modified stock 2.1(ewjet to b exact). im gna buy a new battery and see if i get the same results. i really wna use a custom(2.2+)rom but the battery problems are really putting me off, theres so many people out der that arent really having ny battery drain whcih jus dus my head

Thanks Voelker BTW this is my first Thread in XDA, I used to use SE 2.1 stock rom till the first stable Froyo custom rom came out. I switched to Froyo then I started to notice this around 4 months ago and I tried many combination and a lot of optimizations to find out the best one although Stock rom was always better.
@fiscidtox:
I love Foryo and GB much much more than Eclair I currently on CM6 v6 Wolfbreak
Could you please tell me how the battery lasts on your custom rom while MobileData is left switched-on?
Thanks,
Ayman
I get a full day..
If you mean stock with no tweaks then maybe it would last longer, but a lot of that would be not having jit enabled...

You must be doing something wrong!
10% in 20 mins isn't normal.
I'm sure if you left it settle this would rectify itself though.
I think the biggest advantage of the stock kernel so far is stability, but the ongoing development for the custom kernel is sucessful to implement some problems such as battery drain caused by unability to go into deep sleep etc..
I never understood needing more than 24 hours on a charge. Charge it while you're sleeping you wont be using it then anyway.
Even if you like the 2.1 Stock ROM for any reason (Stability,Battery, etc) and don't like all these awesome 2.2 and 2.3, you should at least use Eric's JET ROM which is based on the original ROM has no stability issues and has faaaaar better battery life.
But seriously, I`m using Custom ROMs since the first 2.2 ROM by Z and never even cared to get back to the stock ROM.
When I use Wifi custom roms have almost the same battery life as the stock rom. But since I can't connect to wifi at work on any custom rom, im forced to use 3g.. and I need to charge my phone twice a day with almost no usage.

Let it settle for at least two days to see improvement.
Your battery needs to adjust, much like letting your phone build a cache, in order to really see how the rom will effect anything.
Im using the stock rom and my battery lasts a maximum of 2 days with this tweaks: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934486
I dont use 3g at all and i use wifi sometimes (session lasts only 10 mins or so)
Brightness is set to "middle" also
Sorry dont agree..
I use wolfbreaks latest rom with the undervolt module.
Juice defender only enables my wifi when i am at home...all other times i have data on with facebook sync.
I now get the same battery life as i did on stock 2.1
Currently I have been unplugged for 1day and 12 hours and I am still at 38%.

Well I don't no where to start really as I know I will get told off for making a new thread about battery life!
But this is hopefully some help for people out there that are trying to get a decent ROM and kernel to improve your battery life, well mine has really improved since flashing my Samsung GS2 with Lite'ning ROM 6.1 and flashing the kernel with SpeedMOD T-40.
I have spent lots of hours reading forums about battery life, I think I have tried everything known to man about this phone, somethings worked well somethings didn't, I wanted to get a decent battery life with out sacrificing any features I love about my phone!
When I got into rooting, about 2 months ago I was a n00b, but I stuck to it and learnt a lot each day, it's not easy and you can't expect someone to tell you how to do it, you have to read up about it like everyone else!
But anyway back to why I've created a new thread, well after installing Lite'ning ROM 6.1 at the beginning of the week which I really like as it keeps the Samsung software, I've used TB Pro to freeze the Hubs as I don't use them, the battery life wasn't what I thought, in fact I think I got a better battery life with the stock rom unrooted
I did some researching and found that the kernel can make a difference to (I'm still learning) so after reading some forums I learnt that speedmod kernel worked well with Lite'ning ROM, as It was just the kernel that came with the ROM, ninphetamine 2.0.5, so I flashed the kernel last night with Odin and within minutes I was back up and running.
I then charged the phone 100% and then use a battery calibrator app to wipe battery stats, I then did a basic test which I previously did before, I went to sleep with a fully charged phone, I left everything on: WIFI, mobile data network and sync on set my alarm clock and went to sleep (p.s I checked a few websites so battery actually went down to 98%)
8 hours later I woke up checked my phone to see what % it was left one, previously on stock ROM with same set up my phone would be on 65% due to the Android OS bug running high! This time it was on 91%, so that's less than 1% drain an hour! Happy or what!
I know some people might not say this was a actual battery test but to me it is and I can see a big difference, funny thing is the AOS was showin 35% in batt stats, which is strange!
Now as I write this at 1pm my phone has been on for 14hrs and I'm still at 75%, yes I know the first 8 hrs was in standbye, but I've had a lot of notifications come through from G+ this morning and I'm pretty happy with what I have got set up now, without compromise as well!
I will upload a screen shot later if any wants to see when my battery stats when its down to 1% etc
I hope his helps some people out there, but I wanted to keep it simple for some as I was once a n00b (might still be)

Cool, I did try CM7 but it was a nightley, build 68 I think, if they had brought the stable version out a week earlier I would be on that now, but I hear there are still bugs?

Then i just installed CM 7.1 with Rom Manager, not sure which kernel is it
if you are gonna try cm7 try the latest nightly build....thats pretty more stable than the "stable" version...i think build 83 is out today and that will have pretty much more bug fixes and i hope they can get that browser lag fixed and thats pretty done deal for me to switch over to that completely

Happy!
So as promised here are screen shots of my phone running at 1%, I forgot to screen shot CPU spy as well (sorry) but I can say that with this set up I am really happy, as I cannot remember when with general use I have managed to get over a day with out charging my phone, iPhone 4 included!
If there is a better set up out there with a newer ROM I would be interested as this is based on 2.3.4 tho Google Talk video works so I'm happy

nightly there is a new one coming out today version 83...still few bugs they need to sort out but once that is done il be on there...that firmware is based on 2.3.7.
im using speedmod latest kernel..it does not support bln or bootlogo but i would sacrifice all that for a decent battery life which i am getting....so far 5 and half hours past and im down to 75% and 2hours screen on time....not bad i think
Hey this is a thread for all the Resurrection lovers out there to discuss what Kernel goes best with Resurrection ROM
I've tried several Kernels by myself but couldn't come to a conclusion which is better in which aspects.
So lets discuss openly the pros and cons of each Kernel
If you have tried any other kernel other than CM9 and Siyah please put your opinions as well.
Nice post! I'd be interested to see the results from ppl as I just updated to latest 1.7 remix and this time have left the CM9 kernal. I did think about flashing siyah straight after 1.7 package but decided to give CM9 a trial first

I'm a Siyah fan too but after reading few reviews considered to give a try with CM9 will see how it goes
I'm currently using the stock CM9 with 1.7 and found it to feel pretty good so far, messed up a little yesterday when the phone froze while playing a video.
Before freezing the phone had 50% battery after removing the battery and restarting, the battery had dropped to 15%
I'm still a bit of a noob to all this so go easy
When flashing a new kernel, do I just put the zip on the card and flash?
Or do I need to wipe anything first?
This is my personal opinion, not trying to put anyone down.
Okay tried CM9 Remix kernel for few hours and already fedup :\
I see no better battery life compared to Siyah kernel, in fact CM9 Remix Kernel had lesser support than Siyah.
Lets see;
Siyah -
CWM touch recovery (and full support)
additional cpu governors (lulzactive,smartassV2,etc..)
Overclocking upto 1.6
support for BLN(Back light notifications)
CM9 Remix -
NO CWM touch recover and some of the CWM features are not available
NO additional CPU governors
NO overclocking
NO support for BLN
So for me CM9 Remix kernel isn't the one.
as i have tried Siyah kernel already im going to give Abyss or some other Kernel a try and will update on how it goes
This is a really difficult conversation because there are so many variables.
1) Kernels - each one has configurations so you need to mention what governor you are using and any other mods that you have done to the basic kernal config. Or if you are using it stock without changes you could state that.
2) Apps - all of us have different apps installed and some apps make demands on the system when it is supposed to be "sleeping". Dedicated battery enthusiasts use CPU Spy and Better Battery Stats to try to figure out what is eating the battery all the time. Then they freeze those apps until they are needed.
3) Usage - I'm retired, so I play with my phone a lot....spend an hour a day just reading XDA. I must turn it on at least 30 times between charges. Others have to work, so they put it in their pockets and leave it alone for a while. Some folks play 3D games which consume power like crazy. Using phone data eats more power than wifi. A black background on your screen eats less than a white background... and so on.
So this is not a simple conversation. The more you tell about your situation, the more others can see if it applies to them.
(PS - I´m not talking much about my setup because I'm still on RR 1.1 with Siyah 3.0.1+. I´m trying various governors to see which works best - currently on lutzactive. I'm usually down to around 45% at bedtime which is fine with me.....If I leave the phone alone and just use it as a phone, I can probably go 24 hours.
Siyah: Feature packed, lots of fluff, but very nice options as mentionned earlier.
CM9: Basic, VERY BASIC kernel. Gets the job done and most people sync their base with it.
I personally use CM9 with Siyah, works great.

I totally agree with you.
I use my phone very often too. not to play games but to text, listen to music, and i leave the phone data connected always to use IM services.
I'm sure it must be same with any regular user.
I love to play around with my phone as in trying out new stuff on it
This time its the Kernels and OSs that im testing on currently checking Abyss Kernel and already noticed that the soft key lights should be turned on time to time by going to settings :\
will see how well it does in other aspects

Did you try Siyah with RR 1.7 before going to Abyss? What were your impressions of the usual kernels that you tried? Apparently 1.7 is working well for you?

I've been using Siyah with RR 1.2 and 1.5 and battery life came upto 8-10hrs
wanted to try a different kernel and chose CM9 Remix which was in the download section of the RR thread and it was an utter disappointment for ME (others might like it)
refer to my earlier post for results.
currently im testing Abyss and will update on how it goes tonight
which one is the best?

It depends on user. Im a heavy user and a need freak so CM9 Remix didnt do much good to me trying Abyss at the moment. Await for results
This is very useful and im waiting for updates
AbyssICS (2.6b)
Okay lets see how Abyss worked out for me.
After the utter dissatisfaction over CM9 Remix kernel Abyss was quite impressive with battery consumption.
there's always a BUT
1. the softykey lights were never on even though i change settings, it stays on till the phone display sleeps and even of you turn the screen on again the lights never come back :\
2. Settings -> Storage always keeps force closing and you cant see the stuff in the external SD card even by using a file explorer (root explorer)
3. I didnt like the screen which comes saying some official italian bla bla when you restart the phone that got a very bad design
soooooooo im switching to Siyah-v3.2b4 after seeing its all new cool features and i found a great article on how to get the best out of the kernel
ill share it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369817
using cm kernel
got 54 hours earlier with moderate use
haven't had any issue so far been using for 4 or 5 days.

No tweaks, but the screen on time suggests that the phone has been on standby most of the time, with no Data.
I always tend to have a fantastic battery performance too when I leave the phone on standby, with no Wifi or Data use.
Regards.

That must be it, i use Data connection all the time and my screen is on most of the time
I used the stock cm9 for a while on v1.7 RR and found the battery to last quite well, decided to try siyah 3.1.2 a couple of days ago and day by day it is getting better but not sure its as good as the cm9 yet....gonna stick with it for now and see as it has more options.
