I like almost everything about the stock browser, especially the quick controls... But I cant find a way to enable desktop browsing, am I missing something or is it not an option on the stock browser?
Type about:debug then enter you will now have the debug menu in settings which will give you an option to change user agent.

You have to do this every time you start the browser. They're trying to get website admins to optimize their sites by using the "android" string, but most websites read it as "androidmobile" and think that you're browsing from a phone. Pretty annoying if you ask me: just optimize the browser so that it acts like a desktop, don't try to saddle the website admins with yet another type of browser...

There is a vh1 app for Android.
To turn off the MOBILE user agent, go into the browser, hit menu, go into settings and disable mobile view

That didn't work, still goes to wap.vh1.com. Even rebooted and retried.
i would suggest either using dolphin hd and setting it up to view pages in desktop mode, or open up a window in the stock browser, type "about:debug" without the quotes. menu, settings, scroll down to UAString and change it to desktop.
U can try bolt browser as its the only java based mobile browser which can stream.
I haven't upgraded yet. But, I was able to scroll down to the very last link on the Wap page "Desktop Site." I then bookmarked the full site and am now able to go directly to it though bookmarks.

While browsing on here I noticed some sites that have mobile versions with no link to switch to desktop stay in mobile mode even when the user agent is changed to desktop. I wondered if this is a Sprint thing or Epic problem?

open your browser and type
"about:debug" w/o the quotes. then press enter. nothing on the screen will change, press menu> settings and choose user agent string

kill the browser task or restart your phone...

Tried that, killing the cache, uninstalling the other browsers, changing user agents on all other browser (before unistall).

Isn't this a cookies thing?
what site?
I do notice some sites still go to m.********.com
but sites like google and facebook dont seem to be an issue to me
try dumping the nav cache the cookies and if all else fails. Make a backup and restore to stock to see if it is a problem with your rom.
if it works on stock then ok. if not maybe there is a problem with your rom.
P.S.
dont forget to sign out of any site that you are signed into
I'm stock no root or custom yet(waiting for 2.2) but Chase website and Tube8(nsfw) among other flash based sites. Now I don't have flash but some sites offer flv/mp4 downloads which I can play.

I had this issue as well. Here's how I solved it
Type about:debut in the address bar then hit enter (you won't see it do anything)
Go to Settings, change UAString to Desktop
Check the option for Normal Rendering about 5 settings up
Now all sites come up in the full version for me.
thanks los...

Tried this, and BBC.com still reverts to the mobile site for me regardless.

Did that but it still goes to mobile on certain sites. I also recently tried using a frame like when you translate a page the url at the top is say google translate but you're somewhere else but couldn't find one that allows pages to load properly (the mentioned example being the mobile site lol and couldn't translate pages). Next thing for me to try is a web proxy but this method and the one before definitely won't serve me for practical use, so at this point I'm just seeing what works.

On my Evo, there is an option in the settings to disable Mobile Sites... has anyone found a way to disable mobile sites on the Xoom?
In my opinion, Honeycomb should have this option on by default!!! It is not built for 'mobile' version of sites... I enjoy the browsing experience on the Xoom more than any other device I have, including my laptop... but the mobile sites popping up every now and then really hamper it. Most sites provide a link to the full site... but some still do not.
For the love of god, search!
I don't even have my xoom yet and I know how to do this.

I'm posting b/c I searched and couldn't find an answer... If you know, share... otherwise just keep it moving.
I also don't have a xoom of my own yet and I know how:
type about:debug in the address bar
go to the settings and look for the debug options click UAstring
Edit: typo
You can disabled user agent string by typing about:debug into your url address bar. It'll look like nothing will happen until you pull up your browser settings. Under debug change UAString to Desktop. It doesn't work for all sites though.
Edit:Beaten.
In your browser, type about:debug as the URL.
Then head to your browser's settings page, and you'll find new Debug settings. In there, you can change the UAString to have the Xoom recognized as a desktop computer rather an Android device.

It's about:debug in the address bar........
The "Desktop" UAString emulates Safari on OSX (why?) and the setting will reset itself every time you switch tasks away from the browser.
Dunno why they couldn't have just made UAString customization a standard feature.

It didn't change for me, even after reboot. The debug menu went away, but not the change.
Also, all KHTML based browsers idenitfy as safari (as well as a chrome identifier).. they put them all in the string for compatibility sake.
Is there a trick to forcing these browsers to use desktop mode? I love dolphin because it does it but its SO LAGGED I cant handle it
google is your friend.

In stock browser nothing will appear to happen. You need to hit the menu in upper right after and choose settings >debug and uastring to change to desktop.
i got it now, thanks. So there is no permanent fix for Wifi? Nothing in the framework res?
Just use Dolphin mini..it works way better on the Xoom.set user agent to desktop and you're done

The title speaks for itself. This was a cool feature on the evo that's not on this phone. Now before anyone starts trolling talking about use search I have this is what I came up with. According to the info I found I'm suppose to type about:debug go to settings and look for uastrings and select desktop. Well that option is not there. So do anyone here have a way of having to do this. Oh yes I have a pc if I was home I would use it.
