My X01HT touchscreen has started acting very weird. Basically the touchscreen has stopped working.
I first thought it was a hardware issue - but now I'm not so sure. Basically the touchscreen seems to not work - unless I take out the battery for about 5-8 hours, then re-insert it. After this amount of time - the touchscreen works for about 2-5 minutes, then is stops working again.
Temperature doesn't seem to be the cause:
It doesn't appear linked to the temperature of the device (as someone posted about a Verio II). I've tried sticking it in the freezer for a while then re-using it. This didn't help.
Hard and soft resets don't seem to help either.
The only way to temporarily get back the touchscreen is to take the battery out for 5-8 hours.
Has anyone seen anything similar to this? Its really fustrating.
I'm out of Japan at the moment - so I can't take it to a service centre.
hey there,
it was mine HTC645 that had the same (similar?) problem with the touchscreen. As far as I remember it wasn't related to temperature that much, it was more CPU working I think (temperature is just a follow up )
So the device was working fine when it wasn't working (where's the logic, huh )
By the way are the LED's working when the touchscreen isn't ?
Sorry to tell you that but in any case it's a hardware fault, get it replaced.
w
Thanks.
Guess I'll have to wait until I'm in Tokyo again.
It started every few days but now it is every-day problem.
after couple of hours of stand-by or (i'm not sure) working on my Magician i have problem in upper right corner of the screen, about 2cm2 doesnt press the screen-place i've touched.
after alining the screen in settings everything is ok for next couple of hours.
and again...
is it some software problem,
or maybe hardware problem?
please help
gd,
at least reply me just for this question.
you didnt for last 2 questions.
i will remove myself from xda members...
xmarkom, this is already known issues, please do search on this forum
all i can say, this is hardware (lcd) faulty, you must send this back to factory (hopefully you still have warranty) and they will fix it.
thx, but i still no get it how can it be hardware problem when it is only necessary to re-calibarte screen whenever you like.
maybe it is problem with battery .
couple times these days i stay with 20% maximum for long time.
???
when i touched the screen using my finger thumb in certain area of touch screen(middle), the start menu automatically drop down
i tried my friend's unit as well, also got this problem. anyone got this problem?
Yes, i have to this problem!
how u gonna solve it? seem like this model got this problem...just it seldom happen or frequently happen
I've the same problem too! But I've send it to HTC care (I'm in HK) to repair two times. First time they change the mother broad but the problem's still there; then I send it back the second time, they change the screen as well.
I've got it back for 3 days and the start up menu didn't pop up itself. Hope it won't happen again.....
I have been experiencing the same problem for some time now.
I've had this device for about 5 months and I have been treating it very nice.
Whenever I touch a certain area of the screen (which I haven't been able to figure out yet), the Start Menu pops out, which is very annoying, to say the last. It especially drives me nuts when trying to compose something using CooTek's TouchPal.
All in all, I do not know whether this is a hardware problem or not. I'm not very sure this is covered by warranty...
same problem here, touch screen changed 2 times by htc
i take to service center, they help me changed the motherboard as well but the problem still there...i think need them to help me change the screen as well...
second changed the lcd touch screen, still got that problem but less already
happen once a day sometimes 2 days once
anyone what the problem?
After I installed new rom on my blackstone a new problem came out...
Time to time something hapens to my touch screen. It gets very very imprecise. For example, when I'm writing a SMS message I press the "V" button but then "G" is written on the screen... But this doesn't happen just when I'm writing a SMS but it happens no matter what I'm doing with the phone... Everything seems to be "shifted"/moved for about 1 centimetre upwards.
I made a hard reset and reinstalled rom but nothing didn't helped...
But it's funny because this isn't happening all the time but just time to time. Then I recalibrate the screen (voUp and voDO + tap the screen) and it helps for a few moments and than the same problem again. Then I'm doing the recalibration procedure till this problem vanish...
What is the problem, how can I solve it???
Please help because it is really annoying...
Hi,
May be that the change of Rom is only a coincidence?
It is not excluded that the touch screen of your blackstone can be a little damaged.
I have a pda that sometimes have the same problem, but I not updated any Rom to it.
Simply I stressed his touch screen with some abnormal pressure (I think).
thanks for reply...
It's funny because it works fine all day but suddenly you need to write a SMS or just answer the call, but that is not possible.
Well the screen might been damaged but it's weird because when I start calibrating the screen I tap the cross and it's not moved...
What can I do?
Same problem
I have same problem and I didn't make any ROM update. I didn't install any new software, but suddenly my screen started to be unaccurate and shifted somehow. calibration helps but after while it's shifted again. I was thinking about updating ROM, but if this is not a solution, then I don't want to ...
Well I send my phone to repair. They said that it was a mechanical issue so I think you should send it also due it looks like this is the only way to solve this problem. I hope you still have your phone under guarantee...
Oh and make sure whether you need original ROM or you may use the changed one, because in Slovenia you need stock ROM and no programs installed (like Garmin etc.). So the best think to do is to hard reset the phone and then send it to repair, so you don't have any problems...
Hi Guys i hope somebody who knows about capacitive touch screens can help me! I have taken my HD2 apart to fix a smashed camera lense. On removing the back cover i used a small screwdriver to prise off the back case and unclip it all round. It came off with no problem, i fixed the camera and put it back together. When i turned the device back on the touch screen isn't responding to my finger on any screen. Like i turned the touch screen off! The hard buttons still wok but nothing from the screen. Nothing looks damaged (I.e the glass isn't smashed). I seem to think i might have damaged something when prising the cover off with the screwdriver. Please, any suggestions would be really helpful!!!
Can anybody out there help with this? I am currently without a phone :-(
I have exactly the same problem, but it happened from nowhere. I didnot unscrew anything. Please Help
Check the flex cable.. this part are very delicate.

same problem
ive got the same problem, mine just stopped working, i performed a soft and hard reset, removed the battery still nothing. it worked for a moment but once locked it stopped working again, only the hard buttons.
same problem but it works on and off. basically the screen will respond until the phone is put into hibernate. the after that id have to push the phone button and end button back and forth until it responds
Same Issue independant of ROM
Same issue here.
Funny thing is it started a week or two ago randomly out of the blue.
Same scenario:
lock the phone can't get touchscreen to respond for unlock
Judging by these posts everyone started seeing this about the same time, maybe it's a software issue or background app .
Help!
I have same problem. It can work for a couple of hours or in 1-2 days then just stop responding, almost every time when in hibernate. Lets just hope it's not hardware failure.
This started happening to me this morning. Out of 50 tries, managed to unlock the phone three times only. This happened out of the blue, right after i removed my phone from the charger.
Have soft reset, hard reset, reflashed ROM, but the issue still remains.
I really really hope this is not a hardware issue.
Does anyone out there know how to solve this? My phone is virtually unusable right now...
Same problem here, I've been testing for about 2,5 months now and today I've sent mine back to HTC . I think it's a hardware problem, tried everything from hard resetting to reflashing. When I press the HTC logo and keep it pressed the screen does respond again. Conclusion: hardware problem.

You're probably right.
I've also tried everything. But kind of strange that if I lock when not on home tab it seems to work. And the screen, almost always, reacts as it should as long as I just dont' lock it.
I just started to get this issue. touch screen works fine until it hibernates. reflashed, still happens. found this in my search:
htcphones.net/htc-hd2-problems-with-touchscreen/
just got off the phone with tmo. they are sending me a new one.
Yeah, it happened to me as well. I opened a new thread like a month ago explaining the problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710282&styleid=15
and I contributed in another one concerning the same issue here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=708530
Summing all up, it ain't caused by a software or a ROM of some kind (at least in my case) because soft and hard resets didn't solve it nor did the flash of a stock ROM. The most probable cause is a digitizer (touchscreen) defect that appears randomly and totally out of the blue. The only thing to do in my opinion is to send the phone in for repair, which I did. It came back with a check mark on "calibrated screen" checkbox. As of now phone's working fine and I hope they solved it even though I read of other people who have had their leo's screens completely replaced..
A curious side note: htc care reset to zero my phone's call duration timers..
I'm not sure if it's the screen. In my case I think it's the connector from the screen to the motherboard, because pressing the housing seems to help.
But let's see if HTC is able to repair it, I hope they are, because the problem is so random they might not even see it
After losing functionality on my touch screen for a week, finally decided to send it in. Took the trouble to revert my HSPL to original and Stock Rom.
Repair should take about a week. Now I'm stuck with an ancient Nokia 6230i for this week. I feel so lost without my ppc. Have had one for as long as I can remember.
Hopefully the phone comes back okay...
I've had so much problem with the screen not responding so I did all backup then reflashed, hard reset to put the device back to stock. Did this during the weekend, I even fired up my old iphone 3g to have as backup phone.
All set today to go to the store and have it repared under warranty.
But since Sunday evening it works perfect. I've been testing it a lot and the screen has not stop responding even once.
This might be just temporarily but does anyone else experienced something like this?
Mine sometimes worked well for hours... days... but eventually the problem came back.
Mine died on me when I was actually out of the country (stuck in Vietnam without a phone). It would work for 5 minutes, then stop for hours. I would have to switch my phone on and off for a couple hundred times before it worked for another 5 minutes...
Got so tired of it that i sent back my HD2 for warranty repair. Expect it to be back tomorrow (or Friday at the latest). Hope there's no further problems with it.
I hate to say it, but the HD2 is known for its highly defective touchscreen. Even when it's working, a lot of people experience strange and bothering events, such as the touchscreen "touching" itself, a very high/very low screen sensitivity all of a sudden, the tilting of the screen to one of the four corners of the device and so on and so forth.
With a device so expensive one would expect it to work flawlessly. Seems to me that HTC doesn't think the way we do...
