[Q] Change/Block model number reported to service provider - Atrix 4G General

Is it possible to change or block the phone model that is reported to your service provider?

You're phone reports its imei, so far as i know its not legal to change it.

Thanks for the link. Not exactly what I was trying to do but great app.

Yea... like totalimmortal said... it's not reporting your model number, it's reporting your IMEI number, which is completely different, and probably not legal to change/spoof.

Just saw that on mine as well.
Strange. My phone number shows up fine. Silly question - you guys both have T-Mobile SIMs in your phones right?

Hahaha, so what gives then?
When I dole out blackberrys at work (T-Mobile) only about half of them show the phone number. I think it's a T-mobile issue.

Haha yeah it isn't a big deal at all, its the least of my problems with this phone right now haha, trying to get root with permission denied staring you in the face is hard to do hahaha
it happened to me also...a reboot fixed it...it was weird though...it happened after i installed the new market and after reboot the # showed up but the market reverted to the old one...idk if it's connected or it was just a coincidence...
Some of the apps need to read the number from the phone for them to work properly
So this will cause an issue for sure
I have tried rebooting and it doesnt seem to fix the problem at all
It has something to do with the sim card. You can call T-Mobile and have them resend it to the sim. If that don't work just get a new sim.

Mine shows unknown number too. What are the odds of us all have an issue with the sim card? Could it just be a gingerbread or nexus s bug?
May (or may not) be the same issue....
If your phone number isn't recorded on your SIM card then android won't display a number (Stating the obvious I know....)
Just grab an old(er) phone (Sony Ericsson seem to work ok for this) and add in your number to the SIM. I think the menu option is something like "My Number".
If you search the Nexus One forums, there should be some non-crap instructions....
May also be of help:

I have this problem on a o2 uk sim. the phone also fails to collect the network time and date values. Could this be something to do with the gps issue I'm having? Maybe its not reading the mobile network properly?

Might be related to o2 not sending the info over their network. I've not managed to get this to work on my N1 as of yet - will try and confirm on the S later today.

First of all check that your IMEI is the same as the one on the sticker under the battery.
If not your IMEI is borked somehow, search here on xda for IMEI restore/repair.
If the IMEI is the same as on the sticker contact your provider and ask them if that IMEI is blocked on their network.
Cheers.

Is it normal that the phone don't work for two different provider ? if IMEI is blocked, it must be blocked in one provider not two ?
I call one of the provider, they tell me that the phone is blacklisted. What can I do ? Is there an other solution ?

It could also be your APN.. T-Mobile NL also has two different apns. One for tablets, which doesn't have calling included and one for phones, which does have calling included.
Me Gusta!

Of course they block all of the providers. It would not be much usefull to block a IMEI if you just could choose antother provider, right?
If your IMEI is blocked and you have bought the phone second hand it is probably reported stolen. If it is like that you should hand it over to the police like mentioned before.

Probably a stolen phone as mentioned before It's best to hand it over to the police so they can return it to their rightful owner. Not sure what you can do with the guy who sold you the thing, though.

Keep in mind that this was a review unit, likely from Motorola (or possibly Google). CDMA carriers (Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular, etc.) tend to whitelist IMEI numbers that are sent to them, along with those sent directly from the manufacturer (warranty replacements, etc.), and other contractual partners (such as Google Play). (The manufacturer and contractual partners are responsible for submitting the IMEI numbers to the carrier.) Thus, when an IMEI comes in from another carrier, they know it wasn't sold by them, directly from the manufacturer, or their contractual partners, meaning it was likely sold by a competing carrier, and can deny activation.
To be clear, the Nexus 6 may or may not work this way. We simply don't know. However, there has been enough historical evidence to be wary. GSM carriers don't tend to whitelist IMEI numbers like this, so usually aren't affected.
As a review unit, it's certainly a good sign that Verizon supports it out of the box, but ultimately it doesn't PROVE that buying one from, say, T-Mobile and trying to activate it with Verizon (or any other CDMA carrier) will similarly work

Problem with IMEI and signal

Hello I bought an used ATT Note4 unlocked and I use it with TMobile. I have two problems maybe related. I have very low signal and the phone dont connect in my home and my previous phones didnt have that problem. In works in other places but you know it disconnects inside buildings and low signal areas. I was thinking in flash a TMobile modem and I think its not possible. The other problem is the IMEi that shows in settings is not the same as the sticker behind the battery so something has be done to the phone. Its possible to fix the IMEI to the real one?
Thanks a lot.

The IMEI is the digital serial number of your device - It can NOT be changed (legally) - Did you purchase the phone from a reputable source? If you did return it.

I dont know if it is reputable but it is a store that sells new and used phones. Its illegal to change original IMEi what I like to do is change it to the real IMEI and make it legal.

it's possible that the case has been changed and the sticker that you see is from another device - You CAN'T legally change the IMEI - It's just like it's illegal to change the serial number on a vehicle!
Are you certain that the device was not stolen?

The original IMEI on the sticker probably is bad. Call AT&T to check it

Wasn't the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge supposed to come with Caller ID powered by Whitepages?

Near the end of February, a lot of websites were reporting that the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge were going to come with Caller ID powered by Whitepages that would automatically look up incoming phone numbers, compare them with a scam database, and allow us to block them or report them.
I have a Galaxy S7 Edge on AT&T in the US and I don't seem to have this. There was an app called "Caller Name ID" that came with the phone, but its not free and not by Whitepages.
Pretty sure all the carriers removed it so you can pay for their own service.

Possible, but on the Whitepages website, they say:
"Whitepages is bringing its leading caller ID and spam detection service to the Galaxy S7. Coming to Galaxy S7 users in 16 countries is a seamless experience, built right into the phone (no app required!) that helps identify unknown callers and protect users-like-you against the growing nuisance of phone spam and scams."
http://about.whitepages.com/in-the-...-and-spam-detection-service-to-the-galaxy-s7/
I would assume the US would have been one of those 16 countries.

I'd assume we aren't. The cell providers here are as greedy as they come, and they all offer their own caller ID service that you can pay for so they would never give it for free.

Interesting. I wonder if AT&T specifically blocked this app from being shipped with the device on their network.

Oh well, the app is a quick download away. No big deal, I just thought it be integrated with all devices like stated in their announcement.
The T-Mobile version is missing this feature as well. Sucks!

My tmobile s7e doesnt come with it but it comes with Name ID, which uses white pages. Looks super ugly though

No need to download anything guys. If you can't see it on your phone, simply do a simple search in your contacts and it'll appear and you just enable it. For example, look up a pizza place near you and you'll get the search results.

We're talking specifically about Whitepages Caller ID & Block for avoiding and reporting scam calls. Not the simple Whitepages app.

Exactly, if it's not appearing on your phone as an option to turn it on, then you do what I mentioned above, and once you do that, you'll have the Whitepages Caller ID & Block (that's what I've read, as I don't currently have the phone yet lol).

Read the thread. It's not even present on some US devices, and needs to be manually downloaded from the Play Store.
