[Fixed]
Hi there, so i have this problem. Suddenly the option "view facebook contacts" (or smth) disappeared from my People > all > view options.
Everything else regarding facebook seems fine, its just that the option isn't there and my phone book is showing only my old messy contacts (before facebook sync).
When im trying to link my contacs again one after another, i cant find the contacts in facebook list - there are no contacts of people i had linked before, and no contact photos. This is obviously some kind of a bug.
Ive uninstalled the Facebook app from the market, but thats not the issue.
Reloging, system restarts etc. dont help at all..
[Solution]: Ive somehow managed to reset that built-in facebook app from the settings pane (accounts and synchronization) and that fixed the problem, had to link all contacts again tho.

Was wondering if anyone knows how to turn off the Facebook contacts because I don't really talk to the people on facebook. So I am trying to find out a way so that when I am searching my contacts friends from Facebook don't pop up. Should be a simple problem to resolve but couldn't figure it out.
From Home, go Menu > Settings > Accounts and Sync > tap Facebook, and you should have an option to disable Contacts Sync
Now, even if you're not syncing contacts, the contacts list will still link the photo of your frinds that are in Facebook. I have yet to find an over all setting to change, but on a individual level, you can go into the contact and change which pohoto to link it to (Facebook vs Google...)
Also, you can go in to your contacts and hit Menu>View and switch off the facebook for mytouch contacts. I turned off my SIM contacts because I have been using Google.
I did everything u posted but Facebook contacts still come up when I try to send a message
I just want my starred contacts back. This FAVs crap gets on my nerves. I want to hit the phone or contacts button and instantly see my call log or my starred contacts. It is truely my ONLY complaint with the phone. I love it as much as my N1 other than that.
Hey everybody....
since saturday im i proud owner of an i9000 and i love it. What a great phone! But i have two problems with it:
Im syncing my phone with my google account... There i have my calender und my contacts without contact pictures. So i synced it and evereything is fine, until now.
Now the second step: ive got a facebook account and after installng the facebook app, i can sync my contacts on my phone (my google contacts) with facebook and link them. In the facebook sync-settings i choosed to only sync all available contacts. Everything seems to be fine, facebook finds some contacts for itself and i had to link some contacts manually. But now the first issue... The contact pictures of the facebook contacts arent shown in the contact list. i can see that the contact is linked to 2 profiles (google and facebook) but it doesnt show the fb-picture. So the priorities arent right for that. But okay.. I found syncmypix and this is doing this job. its a workaround, not more!
Now my big issue... a couple of hours later i had a look in my contact list again. The people that were linked with two profiles (google and facebook) were now linked with 3 profiles. (1 google, 2 facebook). Still a couple of hours later, they were linked with 4 or 5 profiles... What is this? Can someone explain this?
Thx ín advance!
Donald
Same problem here ... except I have 3 time the facebook profile
You can forget the settings sync all contact which is inside the facebook app.
You just need to go in sync account and select the sync with facebook contact
With this I managed to have only one time the facebook profile
I still don't have the photo but I will try your workaround
FYI, I think this is a problem related to the new version of facebook 1.3.1. I never had these 2 issues before ( but as I changed also the firmware to JM5 ... I am not 100% sure of the reason ...)

? just a little confused... its my first android phone and everything is ... confusing. (before i was a WM-junkie)

maybe you should try this.
1. Uninstall syncmypix (because I don't need this to have FB picture and contact)
2. Go to Facebook -> Setting > Don't Sync
3. Go to Contacts > Get Friends > Add Account > Add Acount (you may see 2 different FB setting, but a little bit different in colour) -> Facebook (under "Integrated contact Accounts")
share with us if you get this right

hmm, sound good, but does not work for me either... Now i dont see any facebook contacts in my contact-list. When i pick one of my contacts (that have facebook) i click add link, but i cant choose from facebook contacts, only my google contacts are shown. I found the reason for that... When i go to Contacts > Get Friends > Add Account > Add Acount and add my account i get a sync error....
Good idea, but does not work....
No i did the following, but no success:
i uninstalled this crapy facebook app. after that i go to contacts - get friends - and added facebook again. then i had a look at settings - accounts - see my facebook account but get an error with the sync....
For me, the only way to stop this from happening is to stop the Facebook app from syc-ing contacts. In the Facebook app, go to settings > other settings > don't sync contacts. This should remove the repeated number of Facebook profiles in your contacts. if it doesn't you'll need to reboot. At least until a fix is found.
With every reboot, it adds one more repeated profile to the contact list; if you reboot your phone 3 times you'll see 3 fb profiles.
if you installed facebook app and asked it to sync it can kinda mess up your links.
sgs dont need facebook app to sync contacts and calendar from facebook, it's built-in already so just disable sync in facebook app and then resync all accounts. should fix. worked here anyway.
Same problem that you.
I use European ROM and try to change the firmware several times but it stilll doesn't work.
The problem isn't due to the app 1.3.1 facebook cauz i've already try to synchronise with a fresh Flash, the app wasn't installed yet, but still no success

i can confirm this... I also use european ROM, uninstalled fb-app and tried to sync via buildin Facebook connection. No sync possible!
Same here. FB-app 1.3.1 fault?

Same to me.
everything was perfect, then I upgraded to FB 1.3.1
I started looking in the settings menu, and I noticed a sync option. I activated it, not knowing it was a different thing from the built in FB contact sync of the Galaxy S.
Well, it added several instances of Fb links for each contact (one more every 3 hours).
So I uninstalled FB-app and widget, I cancelled all references to FB from my address book contact list, I deactivated the built-in sync as well, restarted the phone and I tried to use only the built-in sync... IT DOESN'T WORK!!!
There's no way to get the phone sync the contacts/pictures with FB afeter that... I tried everything except reflashing the phone or resetting it to factory defaults
The bug is probably related to FB app 1.3.1+
Does anyone know if there's a directory in the internal memory to wipe in order to "reset" all this mess?

Facebook relaesed FB app 1.3.2... No possibility to sync anymore... But you can use, like i said before, Syncmypix to get the pictures from your FB contacts to your phone contacts.
Another optins is uning Phonebook 2.0 (but i personaly dont like it). For me syncmypix works great is is doing exactly want i want it to...

FB Sync App
The problem I found is actually the FB app. I think by now most of you would know this. I uninstalled the FB app, and instead just use the Contacts native sync to add in FB account contacts...every one on FB with photos is now loaded into my phone...once...
The failure is fixed.. I think facebook changed someting, now you can sync via buildin facebook sync.. and update faecbook to 1.3.2! Then everything will work fine!
Hi there, I'm new to android and I installed the Facebook for Android app.
I manually inserted some of my friends into the Contactlist.
I tried to sync my Facebook-friends that are presented into my manually added Contactlist.
When I want to send a textmessage (sms) and search for a contact, I can see my entire facebook friends... But I only want to see my manually added contactlist (with the facebook sync like: photo's, profile, etc)
So my problem:
- Contactlist ok (only my contacts from phonebook)
- Messages not ok (I can see my entire facebook)
Open Facebook, tap the stylized facebook text on the top left corner so you go to the 9 icon grid layout, then tap the Menu softkey, Settings, scroll down, tap Sync Contacts, choose Sync with existing contacts, then OK.

I allready did this, but ALL the facebook contacts are still in "Message"
Try Don't sync, let it clear out your contacts list, then try sync with existing contacts again.
Also, check that you don't have facebook syncing contacts with the Social Hub.

I deleted my fb accound and then I synced with existing contacts...
But in Messages I see all the facebook friends again.
I never opened social hubs, I did it now but I don't have any feeds because I have 0 accounts into feeds...
But on the tab Messages i see the link to messages...
And again same story = All facebook contacts.
I also tried to delete them by KIES. But KIES only shows the right contacts (not the facebook contacts)
Just checked on my own phone and yeah I have the same issue.
Try Add recipient>Groups>My Contacts? Or Favourite all the people you want to text and tap the Favourites tab every time you text maybe?
Sorry that's all I can help you with. Dunno how to completely rid the nonessential contacts from Messages short of exporting the ones you want from Facebook and reimporting via Google or something.
seems to be a bug with Samsungs implementation of FB integration, you can choose to hide facebook only contacts but when messaging it will show your full Contacts list (including facebook) regardless of the selection made in the Contacts menu.
hope samsung sort it out !
Yeah same issue. chose only sync with existing contacts but it still synced all
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Annoying bug, I have a work around!
Any work around?
This is the same issue with mine, I have tried loads of things, it looks like a bug as selecting sync with existing contacts, should just sync existing contacts not 'All' which is what it's doing!
However I have recently started using 'Go SMS' as my default SMS app and when I follow the same process to text someone I don't get the whole of my FB friends now!
Try it see what you think but I prefer GO SMS to the default Samsung SMS app.
I have been facing this very annoying problem that I can't find a solution to. I am using the Jan 13 Energy ROM, and what happens is this: I add my Facebook account and choose not to sync any of my contacts. If I go out of the accounts settings and go back into it, I see that the FB account is syncing. Going into it, all three boxes for selecting different feeds are selected. I uncheck all of them and stop the sync. What I notice then is that my data connection *still* stays active, and contact info for all 900+ of my FB friends is downloaded to my phone.
What a friggin mess. I realize I can hide the FB stuff under the "People" tab, but under "Phone" everything shows up. I don't want any of the FB contact info to show up on my phone.
Is this a known problem? Or just a problem in the Energy ROM? Is there a way to just delete the FB contacts once they are done downloading?
I have tried multiple times to stop facebook from syncing contacts. The only way i've managed to stop it is by removing facebook. Now, obviously i'm doing something wrong.
Can someone point me into the right direction? I have actually unchecked "sync contacts" under facebook in accounts...but when i checked to see if it was still unchecked a couple
hours later...it was checked. Now everytime i want to text someone (as i type in their name) my phone contacts AND facebook contacts show. HATE IT lol Help

Did you turn off facebook contacts in your contacts app?
Inside Contacts, hit the three dot icon then settings then contacts then contacts to display, and then select your gmail (or which ever contacts list you use). It's defaulted to all contacts, so maybe that's why you still see facebook contacts.

yes sir i did...do you think after i installed facebook and had it installed for a bit that it synced FB contacts already...so even after i turned sync off it was too late? I'm not worried about the contact list though. I can choose what contacts i see in the contacts app. Thats no problem. It's when i compose a new text message...that's when ALL contacts show up. Phone and FB
Check the FB Messenger app if you have that installed; it also has an option to sync
The Facebook app itself also has an option to sync. In the app settings, it gives you 3 options under "Other Settings" - Sync all (which is what it's doing on your phone), Sync with existing contacts (which only syncs Facebook info with contacts you have on your phone), and Remove Facebook data (which removes all Facebook info from your contacts; it may also be called Don't sync).

Thank you guys. Finally found the option in the actual FB app. I was always looking under "accounts" in main settings. Thanks again
