Language Support - Galaxy S II General

Hi,
I need support for Hebrew which I found out that Android 2.3.3 doesn't have.
What ways can I get Hebrew support? (which means right alignment rather than left like in English).
Not having Hebrew support makes all my email unreadable since it turns around the order of the letters.
I'd appreciate your help

Look for madmack threads about RTL languages (Arabic & Hebrew)

Haha! And Toda (thank you).
Just one thing though, I don't really know anything about ROMS and ROOTing.
Can I restore my device after ROOTing it so I "unvoid" the warranty?
For the iPhone for instance, restoring the phone doesn't leave a trace of the jailbreak. Is it the same for android and rooting?

well, ddjv6 has nothing new when compared to jvo.
its basically jvo.
no hindi fonts or nothing very specific to india found in this fw.
bugs are yet to be discovered.
the good thing is warranty will be valid for those who still have it.

I got my galaxy S from letsbuy. I think they import the korean version and sell it as I never had any hindi fonts, but it has korean fonts. My friend bought a galaxy S from a retail shop here in bangalore and I'll see if it has any indian fonts.
Also reg feedback, these are negatives i noticed till now.
Wi fi weaker.
Auto brighness adjustment is horrendous n keep dancing about.
The batter indicator on the top notification bar spikes up sometimes.
Well, I doubt if it will have any...
Android is bugged at base code with the lack of full support for unicode fonts. Even if I try to open a Bengali news site with unicode fonts, all I see is squares!
MAJOR MAJOR flaw in this tech age... no unicode, ha ha google? What are they doing? Counting number of zeros in "google"?
Ah... so the official GB kies update for i9000 has landed in India?
So far works very well... 14 hours of use.. 48% battery remaining.
Wifi works well. no issues.. will write more review soon...

Noice!!!!
Well, finally its here....and i must say its not bad at all. slight lag though can surely live with it. Same as JVO. waiting for Voodoo..................
I have the CF-Root JVO kernel working with the DDJV6 and its smooth. Front facing camera is working as it should. I hate to see the notification text color black on a dark grey background.
I'm unable to scan GSM900 network using default modem (JV4) with Indian Firmware (JV6). Is anyone else facing the same problem?
Changed the modem to TUBJV6 from JV6 firmware of i9000t. Getting GSM900 now.

You're Welcome
I was wondering if it's possible to enable the CRT screen off animation in this. I'm not too confident with changing the system files, so it'd be great if someone could point to another option? Is flashing another kernel or ROM the only other option?

I have Samsung Galaxy S. I have installed DDJV6 using Kies over JP6. But I am feeling absolutely cheated by Samsung as this so called 'Indian Release' does not support any Hindi or Indic fonts. I am talking about reading Hindi text. As far as text input is concerned, Hindi is not even shown as a data input language. Shame on Samsung that it cannot use the inherent features of Gingerbread! I am saying so because even Froyo Official release of Galaxy S in India could render Hindi fonts correctly. There were a lot of tall claims that Gingerbread would support 52 languages (both for reading and writing) and here is this Samsung that it can't even render Indic reading capabilities in Galaxy S based on Android 2.3.3.
I don't have a Galaxy S. My friend purchased it just couple of days back. It's running Froyo out-of-box. Tried using Kies, but could not find any newer firmware. Did you guys manully flush the firmware or use Kies for 2.3?
cheers.

Going Russian

So i have my nexus 7 and it runs fine... got a rom on it.. no problems at all..
but i just bought a second one that i plan on giving to family in russia when i go visit them next week...
being a US user, i have never had any issues using the device but i am wondering how i can make it fully compatible for use in Russia...
the obvious answer is to choose russian as the language during setup but thats not enough... half the things are still written in english and all music shown is american...
what can i do to make it better capable for use in russia?
thanks

ANDROID 4.3 - Bad Update For RTL users

sense android 4.0 Google included the RTL fix (when writing Hebrew or Arabic) built-in. and of course the language itself.
in android 4.3 when i\m changing the language to Hebrew - the entire system is mirror-like , the notification above, the touch buttons below , horrible..
i hope that CM team will fix it in their version.. cause it unbearable
Pretty strange that it is all mirrored.

Yea this is terrible, my gf wants me to uninstall 4.3 for her!
I use an english interface so i'm good...
Anyone has a possible fix / workaround to that? That is really annoying!
Even something for rooted users? maybe using XPOSED Frameworks?
maybe we need to send google an email about this ****
Where can we find a feedback form for that?
Yep ive noticed that too. I dont use it however as i prefer to go with english, but im thinking it cant be that bad .. maybe just needs some time to get used to ^^".
I have to say that it was expected. Hebrew interface was always mirrored and annoying, I'm not using it since who knows when.
Even hebrew windows is mirrored, the start menu(prior to windows 8) was on the right side....
Tell your gf it's time to start using english interface, it's more convenient, more accurate and it's more useful.
informing google
Hi guys
If you don't like the new rtl update, then there's a thread on google code about. Star it so that they'll deal with that. Im a new user so i cant post links, but googling "android issues rtl hebrew" will probably bring you to it
Cheers
There is probably a system-wide flag somewhere that sets mirror-mode when the locale is set to he/iw.
We just need to find where that flag is set (I was thinking somewhere in SystemUI.apk, but couldn't find it) and just change it.
I wish we had more people working on this.

Swop the soft keys?

I've searched but can't find any threads on this...
Can I swop the soft keys on my Nexus 4? It's not rooted at present, but rooting it is not a problem.
Thanks.
*swap
Im guessing by swap you mean that you want to be able to change the order of the keys on the navigation bar?
If so, you will need a custom rom. Most roms will allow you to edit the navigation bar to remove/add/rearrange the softkeys, such as cyanogenmod, carbon, aokp, etc.

*Swop.
I mean I'd like to swop over the two keys that reside either side of the home button. That is, the recent apps key on the left and the back button on the right. I'm left handed (and British, hence *swop) and it's more convenient with the soft keys this way round.

Oops my bad, I had no idea that how you guys spelled that...seems so wrong. Sorry for being so ignorant.
Anyways, you still need to use a custom rom to be able to achieve what you're looking for.

And until I started messing around with Linux I had no idea you lot spelt it wrong either
I spent hours trying to setup a swop file, and kept failing, then I realised it's a swap file!
In fairness, both are used in the British version of English, and in some regions swap is more common, but I'm a child of the 70's, and we had The Multicoloured Swop Shop TV show on a Saturday morning, so it's how i've always spelt it.
I'm running Cyanogenmod 10.1 stable on my Samsung Note 2, I can't see anyway to swop the keys, would this facility feature only on CM on the Nexus? or does it not offer it at all?

Haha interesting. As a Canadian, we usually adopt the British spelling of most words rather than the American, but apparently not in this case. Ive honestly never heard of "swop" being used.
The reason you dont have the navigation bar options on your note 2 is because the phone lacks a software navigation bar. Technically the options are there, but cm hides them on devices with hardware buttons. You would actually be able to unmask these options on your note 2 by adding a line in your build.prop: "qemu.hw.mainkeys=0". Doing that will give you all of the navbar features, as well as pie controls.
On nexus devices (or other devices with a navigation bar) these options are shown by default.
Every version of CM 10.x that I have used, on the nexus 4, has the ability to customize the navigation bar. I don't know about other devices. I also always switch the back button and recent apps button.
Go to: Settings>System>Buttons and Layout (under the Navigation Bar sub-heading)
The instructions for changing them are built-in.
That's brill, thanks both of you.
I was pondering putting CM on the Nexus, that's the decision made.
Now off to find a "how to".
Regards.

1. Unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery (twrp)
2. Download cm and copy to your phone
3. Boot into twrp. Wipe > Swipe to factory reset. Install > browse to cm zip, select it, and swipe to flash

I'm English and I've never used the word swop. Maybe it's a regional thing? Slightly off topic, I know.

Love how some try to turn all internet chat into arguments whilst taking the whole "I'm above this" approach!
I'm originally a southerner, Londoner to be precise, but have lived in Ireland for many years now. From a speech perspective swap would be more common here.
Perhaps swop is a southern thing? After all, we do speak proper, not like you northerners
Sorted, just! Took hours to get the drivers working on Windows, once that was finally sorted the rest was a breeze
Soft keys now suitable for a leftie
it was swap shop
swap shop..... never has been swop
Good god, just Googled it, your right. This is shocking news. Did I grow up in a parallel universe where it was swop, or am I, gulp, wrong?

Ha must be strange to question your childhood.
Wrong about it being "swop shop" yeah but who cares at the end of the day it's just different regions and accents.
You'd have to be the type of douchebag who loves to be right all the time. Running around saying "it's not proper English unless it's standard English." Nobody speaks standard English you write standard English that's why you have formal and informal writing.
Yes douchebag is slang.
Now how did we get on to this? Almost all nexus 4 ROMs will let you customize the navigation bar.

My Nexus is now sporting CM10.1 stable. It's a shame that I had to use a custom rom just to achieve something so basic, you'd really think the facility to swop, sorry swap the keys would be there in vanilla Android, but I guess not.
There again, vanilla also forgot to add in a battery percentage icon so it's missing some pretty obvious features, I mean, even IOS had had a battery percentage since around version 3!
Oh well, happy with CM so all good with the world once more.
Thanks for the help.

Hi.
Ok, thanks.
Regards
You look keyboard settings.
Just to find out what sort of 'Customer Service' Samsung offers I put the issue to them.
Here is what Shawn Teo, Samsung Customer Care, Singapore had to say;
"We seek your kind understanding that system-side changes are made by Google, the developer of Android. The changes Samsung can make, just other participants in the industry is located on a layer on top of the changes made by Google. In Samsung's case, the changes are made on Touchwiz, the front-end touch interface developed by us. "
When it was pointed out that this was utter crap and he didn't know what he was talking about I got the following reply from Anthony Olivares, Customer Service Representative;
"We have forwarded your concern to our senior support team for deeper investigation, analysis and review."
Presumably after that 'deeper investigation, analysis and review' I then got the following from Anthony Olivares, Customer Service Representative;
"While such upgrades may introduce fresh mobile experiences by increasing the functionality of the mobile device, we do wish to clarify that they are essentially released to maintain the stability.
As such, firmware upgrades will only be released for the particular device model if the balance of the device is leveled."
So there you have it.

I have now looked at 2 Galaxy Note 3 side by side and can confirm that the one running 4.3 has no 3X4 Keyboard and the one running 4.4.2 has the 3X4 Keyboard.
If Samsung can do this without their Customer Service Department being aware then what next for their customer base?
For me, time to look at alternatives to Samsung.
