[Q] Problems with Sound Settings - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi,
i have tested many ROMS for my HD2(E) and i use now the RAFDROID HD 4.0.2.
The Rom installed on 3 devices and on 2 devices no problems.
So now my Problem:
When I went on into the Sound Settings on the third Device I get the message "The application settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly"
I have installed the Rom new and the error comes back.
Anyone a Solution?
Thanks

If it works on 2 out of 3 devices, you may have a hardware problem. Try reformatting the SD card used in the problematic device. If you want to test this out before reformatting, you could also try one of the SD cards from the working devices in the one with the problem.

So I have tested two other SD Cards and the error comes again. I test now a other version of Android. Or has anyone a other idea?

I had this error before on DHD builds, haven't tried Raf's though.
formatting the SD using the SD formatter http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/ then doing a fresh installation and resetting Android 2-3 times before I start modifying settings usually solved it for me.
make sure you set formatting options like this:
format type: full (overwrite)
size adjustment: on
some cards don't support this tool however. If you have SanDisk, Kingston, Transcend, or A-data then you should be fine.

Hi,
I have got a same problem on TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 ROM.
I'm using this ROM for a long time, but a few version ago this problem appeared.
I thing, this isn't hardware problem, because I using Timeriffic and it change sound settings automaticaly without problems. Also, I can turn on/off sound with menu by long press on "Off" button.
I didn't make fresh install, only update.

Help! My HD cant find my micro-SD!

Has anyone had this problem before? While scrolling through my photos using TF3D (photos mostly saved on the microSD card), TF3D froze. I soft reset, and paf! I cant access the microSD. Tried connecting to my pc and still nothing. I don't even have the option anymore of choosing to use the HD as a portable hard drive. Its acting as if there isn't a microSD in it.
Any suggestions anyone?
PS I recently installed the new HTC official ROM a few days ago. But didn't have problems until now. Could this be related?
if you install the advanced config utility 3.3 theres an options for PNP delay timing that can help with sd cards not showing up in certain devices. just install the cab to your device and try setting a longer delay timing.
I have been having exactly the same problem. Soft reset has brought it back each time but it is not a permanent solution.

Thanks for the reply guys. I'll try your suggestion with advanced config utility 3.3. I hope it works cos I had a load of stuff saved and installed on the microSD card.
@bford: I've tried soft resetting numerous times without any luck. I just wonder if perhaps the card is just fried
I experienced the same exactly problem.... What I did was to take out the micro sd, pluged it in micro sd reader and formatted it with Panasonic's SD Formatter
After That it works Like a charm!
Hope I helped...
Thank you. That has solved my problem too. It seems there were problems in the recycled files folder. This is now sorted. I'm still watching nervously though!

SD Card reader issues

Hello folks,
I figured I would go to the experts to get an answer to my question.
On my universal I was running Windows Mobile 6.1, I didn't really like it as the phone was unstable, so I downgraded to Tmobile Windows Mobile 5 (which is what ships on the phone) everything is running smooth (Shout out to SPB Shell 3.0 AWESOME!!!)
anyways after the downgrade which went through without incident, my SD card reader does not SD cards, I know it is not hardware because it worked fine when the device was running WM6.1.
Anyome have any ideas as to what happened?
the device simply does not recognize any size, 32MB all the way to 2GB.
I have searched and found nothing.
Anyone have an updated driver for the SDCard reader?
I have extRom installed so I can put whatever I want into EXTRom and have it install.
Crapgame
It's because native WM5 can't use SDHC (SD cards are only up to 2GB). I think you can simply install SD settings by OllieD - where you can change to Type 1 or 2. Sorry unless someone else can help, you'll have to search for it.
I think i have the same issue.
The device sometimes see the card when set to standard SD or SDHC Type-I but it's really inconsistent.
Driving me nuts.
I had a similar problem, i had to eject and reinsert the card multiple times to get it to see it. The card SEEMED fine because it would work in my pc (via usb adapter)) and digital camera with no problems. But when i tried the one from the camera in the universal it worked fine, absolutely no problems.
So I bought a new sandisk one from ebay and all has been fine since, seems like it was being picky about the original SD!
i think, the sd card is formatted fat16
you formatted with "Haret"?
Haret?
Sorry for the noob question, but what do you mean?
I have tried formatting the card fat16, fat32, NTFS
nothing works
I have even tried install SD settings by OllieD adn that did not work
according to the specs I should be able to use my 2GB Sandisk Extreme III 2.0 GB SD Card, but alas my uni just does not see it.
any other suggerstions tips?
Also does spbsoftwarehouse's backup work really well?
I want to try some other ROMS on the device and I dread having to reinstall everything and reconfigure it too.
I would much rather back the dang thing up then experiment with various ROMS and then if nothing is to my liking, put my old ROM back with all my 'stuff'.
I have similiar problem.
In the past I have changed many ROM's from Tomal and many others. WM 5, 6.1, 6.5 and never had a problem with the card.
My last ROM where everything worked was Luca15thebig. After that I wanted to go back to Tomal V8.9 and then my problem started:
I did DOC format (always do that), put Tomal's ROM - ups, no SD card (with any SD card settings).
Did some searching on the forum, found similiar problem which was solved by flashing some factory shipped i-mate ROM. Again, DOC format, flashing that ROM (it is all-in-one ROM: radio, ext-rom and operating system). Booted that system (wow, time-warp to past ), frankly I didnt expect that my 8GB SDHC will work there - and it didnt.
Again DOC format> flashing Tomal V8.9 ROM> upgrading radio (that i-mate ROM reverted it back to 1.03). After a while booted Uni with Tomal's ROM, no SD card. Tried all settings, nothing.
Tried same thing but with that new Thing V2.3 ROM (very fast and stable BTW). Same thing - no SD card in file explorer.
My card works in my laptop. I even tried to format it in laptop - and my Uni still dont see it.
My friend has an Uni and I tried that card in his device. It works (he is using Tomal V8.7 ROM). Tried his 1GB SD card in my Uni - not working in my device.
Im no specialist but i think you guys have a hardware issue with the SD port. Maybe loose or something inside. Hope thats not the case. If multiple cards using multiple Roms do not work in Uni but work anywhere else then I would have someone or myself check to make sure the SD slot is soldered properly still.
i've encounted many issues with the SD + sdhc drivers for the universal, i'llw rite up a longer post with more information later as i've had a long day.
summary: keep trying different cabs, one will eventually work. make sure its formatted FAT32. popping it in and out+softresetitng a few times may be required.

16 GB SD badgering

Greetings to whoever is reading this!
I am not a big poster but.. i really can't find a solution for this one.
I searched around the forums but i was not able to find something quite like it, maybe i overlooked something but anyway, here goes:
I recently got myself a 16GB class 6 Silicon Power microSD card. The problem i am having with this card is that whenever i try to boot into Android either from NAND or SD something rather bad happens. With NAND the boot is successful, however, after the phone is fully booted it starts to lag and is having trouble resuming from sleep (either takes an eternity to conjure up the lock screen or simply stays black) and so on.
On SD builds the story is a tad different (i've tried both MAGLDR and WinMo). On some builds Leo manages to boot initially and everything seems to work, no lag and so on, however, when i do one, in some cases more restart(s) then the phone ends up in a boot loop.
I have tried all the same ROMs with the same settings on other memory cards: a class 6 8GB and various 2gb cards with no problems.
Another fact that might be interesting is that the card has no problems working with WinMo 6.5 nor WP 7. Both boot and work fine even after several restarts. Also, i tried the card in my camera and it did not have any problems either.
So far i have tried:
Formatting the card
- using Windows (tried all possible cluster sizes and so on)
- using SD Formatter 3 (both quick and normal format)
- using EASEUS Partition manager
- using WinMo 6.5
- using Android
- i think i also tried something in CWM but don't remember exactly what i did.
Cloned my 8GB SD to the 16 GB card making it look as if it was 8GBs and had it's properties using EASEUS Partition Manager.
and also tied flashing a couple of different Radios but i don't think they had an effect...
I'm running Leo 512
HSPL 2.08
Radio: 2.14.50.04
Well, i think i mentioned everything.. if anyone has any advice, please post
If i remember anything else i'll edit
Thanks in advance!

WP7 inoperative after restart

Hi all

Nothing to do I had to reinstall a fresh rom
SDCard problem? Any idea?

U should try using a different SD Card, ur SD card may not be compatible with wp7 :/
Thx
I'm trying now to install xbmod on my brand new sandisk 16Go C4 SDHC Card
I'll tell you what's the matter with it
If this is an sd card issue then you should buy a windows phone compatible sd card. ATT sells them. Only 8gb as of right now but im using it as we speak and i havent one reboot since. Purchase price is $32.00 (actually says windows phone on the packaging)
I have a similar problem, after installing W7 on HD2,
I synced google account and then just wanted to try soft restart,
but the phone went to constant restart mode - it shows green HTC text on white backround, then MAGLDR screen, then W7 boot picture and then restarts again in cycles.
removing SIM does not help.
removing SD will boot to where it sayes I have SD error and can only make emergency calls.
What was your solution?
how to I get back to MAGLDR menu to reistall W7?
I have tried Sandisk 8GB (class 2 and class 4 both) and Transcend 4GB class 4 , with no issues.
I Too faced the same issue during Flashing of XbModROM on my HD2, and I started the mobile few times without sdcard, and again put it back in.
I assume its like my old celeron PC recognizing a dead CD-ROM.
I still have this problem and there seems to be no solution.
a fresh install of WP7 works fine, without crashing, but I have to take care that battery wont drain, because after the first shut-down WP7 wont load, and I have to do a reinstall.
##TRY##
use the unlocker tool to unlock ur SD card,
and use HD2s Stock ROM
and start install from scratch, remember to format the SD card on fat32 (using a nokia phone if possible

i had the same issues when flashing xbox/yuki xda rom. try doing a couple of hard resets. strangely enough that worked after about four of them lol and my phones been working great since. its probably your sd card as well. ive used a few class 4 cards to no avail. i'm currently using the stock sandisk 16gb class 2 card i got with my hd2 and it hasnt failed me yet
okey,
my solution was - I bought a new microSD card, and now it has loaded for 10 times, so -> problem solved!?
Now i'm trying all options to unlock the 8gig card I had problems with - so to use it elsewhere.

No longer "solved" : "Damaged SD Card" with a new JB ROM

I have swapped to this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912740
and suddenly it's reporting that my SD card is damaged. I have been using this card for a long time through multiple ROMs without any issues. Looking at the thread, I'm not finding anyone with my problem so far, so it could be something more general.
I did a clean install (wiped all user data and everything). Reformatted the card - no luck. Tried another SD card (an old 1GB micro SD) - still keeps saying "SD Card is Damaged". When I say "OK" and tell the ROM to format it, nothing happens--I get the SD Damaged message back.
Not sure if my ROM installed poorly or I'm having some odd compatibility issues.
Tried formatting from Clockwork mod too - formats successfully, but upon entering the ROM, I get the "Damaged SD" error.

Are you installing to nand or native SD?

The ROM is installed to NAND with the ODEX thing included (built into the ROM installer options). Just did another factory reset / data clear / reformat / ROM reinstall - still showing that SD card is damaged =/ I guess it's something in the ROM, as it's never been an issue before.
Edit: Solved.. I formatted the SD card in my friend's phone, which has a different version of a CM ROM. Works fine in mine now... odd...
Another SD "broke"
Ok, so now we installed an Android ROM onto the other phone (Paranoid Android for HD2 this time - NAND installation), and the Damaged SD card message is popping up again - with another SD card... that was also working perfectly fine through multiple other ROMs before (is this something JB ROMs seem to break?.. Hard to believe it's a coincidence).
So now I can't fix this second SD card. Tried formatting on my computer - no luck. Formatted in Clockwork recovery - no luck. Trying to format it inside the ROM gives a message that the system is analyzing the card to format it, then nothing happens, and the "Damaged SD" message pops up again... so basically it's not getting formatted. This is on both phones now. I was able to fix the first SD card on an older version of an ICS Android ROM, but as that ROM is no longer installed (bugged out completely, hence trying new ROMs now), both of our phones can't format my card.
Any other way to do this? I really don't understand why the card gets messed up for these JB ROMs, and don't know how to fix it at this point.
For completeness, I did run chkdisk on the card, and it's operating fine, no errors. It works just fine connected as USB storage through MAGLDR, I can install ROMs from it and everything. It just appears corrupted as soon as I enter my Android ROMs.
Use Windows on pc and do slow full format
