Has anyone figured out how to disable the lights on the capacitive touch buttons?\
I use my phone as a nightstand clock and none of the apps can disable the lights. Supposedly even the atrix dock charger keeps the lights on. I remember this being a problem on the Nexus one and it was addressed in an OTA update.
I have tried 'screen filter' as other phone forums suggest, but it doesn't work.
Do you dock it or leave it on the night stand? The night mode should turn off those lights. Are you at the latest update level?

I use an app called adjbrightness to turn off the backlight of the buttons and an app called LED Hack to turn off the LED at night. You might want to check these out.

Those work, but i wish there was some way to have the lights shut down like night mode on other android phones.
When you put it in the dock try turning the screen off and then back on that's what I have to do to get them to turn off.

I found Screen filter worked well.

The lights for the Home, Menu, back arrow, and search key only come on 40% of the time. Does anyone have information on how to fix this?
I assume its a hardware problem, I wish I had the option to turn mine off.
They only turn on in low light settings. Cover the light sensor and they will come on. There was a glitch so they didn't turn on when charging, but I think it was fixed (?).
The lights are tied to the ambient light sensor. They only come on when you are in a darkened room. Also, they don't come on when the phone is charging (at leasrt mine don't).

Just download the app "LEDs OFF" from the marketplace. It's quite useful and I use it just about every night when the lights are low and I want the device as dim as possible. If you have a problem with the lights flickering, you need to download the latest version of SuperUser... This is of course assuming your on a rooted device. Anyways, just thought I would throw my 2 cents in
My lights don't come on all the time either... Pretty sure its supposed to be that way... They always come on right after un lock and go off about 15 seconds later

If you are charging the button lights generally don't come on.

Do you mean "LEDs Hack"? That's what I'm using and it works great when reading ebooks in bed.
I noticed the lights don't always come on on mine and I always wondered why this was.
Now that I think of it I suppose it's only when I'm charging, but it's quite annoying when you're used to hitting the glowing menu or back button!
I love this phone, but when I'm messing with it at night with all the lights turned off, usually the bottom softkey lights are bright as hell. I was wondering if any devs can put an option to where the bottom softkey lights only last for only a couple seconds.
Just asking, thanks in advance!
in the power options widget you can set the brightness.
you can also turn off auto-adjust in Settings->Display
fyi I've had the same problem when i turn on the phone after waking up, my eyes feel like they are on fire when the screen turns on at full brightness.
He's talking about the softkeys I think. There is an app that can change it and we at the mes forums have a mod to extend it but idk if you can shorten it.

If you're rooted and have rom manager jt has tweaks for it.

Yes but the above fix works as well. Since the DL09 update the screen timeout is linked to the softkeys. So set the screen timeout for less time. Besides optional kernals there is no other way I know of.

Setting the screen time out would affect how soon the screen AND softlights turn off, which wouldn't be any help to him because i believe what he is asking for is a way to turn off the softlights only while the screen remains on. Ever since dl09, the softlights stay on as long as the screen is on, where before with di01 and such, the softlights would only remain on for a few seconds while the screen was on and then they would go off. Im jot sure there is currently any way to turn softkey lights off while screen is on, but the mods that jt1134 has in rom manager might work.. but they were designed for di01 and dj05 and meant to actually extend the time that the softkey lights stayed on while screen was on.. as most people complained that the buttons could not be seen at night or in dark and wanted them to stay on (hence the fix for it in the official dl09 release) so there's a good chance that they won't work on dl09.

yeah, sorry guys. I meant the softkeys at the bottom. I loved how they would turn off after only a couple seconds, but I hate how it stays on for how long my screen time out is. Bothers me and I just want to go last for only a couple seconds instead of the screen timeout duration itself.

I totally agree with you, and would love to find a way to revert to the DI01 way of them only staying on a few seconds after use. Hell, I'd settle for turning them off all together so they never light up - in the daytime, you don't need them, and at night, I pretty much know where they are anyway.
I wish I could figure out how to keep mine on. I'm running dl09 and idk if I installed a kernel or theme that caused the issue but once my screen dims the lights go out and won't come back on until I physically touch them. They used to turn on once I touched the screen.

I agree; there should be a mod to turn off soft key lights
Just got a dock for my g2. I use my phone as an alarm. I use nightwatch for a dim bedside clock. But...the soft keys (home/menu/back/search) are on full bright ALL NIGHT lighting up my entire room, and giving my wife more of a reason the press a pillow into my sleeping face...is there a program, or a setting I'm missing to turn those effers off when charging? Help...please
What rom are you using?

I have mine permanently off, so idk how much this might help you.
I did it from cm settings > display > auto backlight > edit other levels, and then set buttons to 0.
The "Screen Filter" app from the Android Market has an option to turn off the key backlight.

I noticed this when I was out Friday night at a dark bar as I was lowering my brightness so I wouldn't be blinded by the screen while texting. I lowered the brightness all the way down, and the backlight essentially turned off; at first, I thought the phone turned off sporadically so I turned it back on...but it turned out that the screen was on, but the backlight was off.
After some more investigating, it seems like this is a hardware issue as I did a complete hard reset and the problem persists. Strange, but my replacement should be shipping sometime soon. Has this happened to anyone else?

Accidentally gave you a thanks Lol. Mine doesn't do this, when I go to the wick settings, tap brightness, and slide it all the way down it just gets dim, doesn't turn off.

When your screen goes out are you able to adjust the brightness afterwards?

Yes, but I didn't realize this since I was in a really dark bar. When I got home, I played around with it and noticed that sliding the brightness all the way down to 0 resulted in the backlight turning off, and then the screen turning off within seconds. Very strange behavior.
Just something that I wanted people to be aware of so they can get their units swapped out.

Nope, stock everything. Locked bootloader, unrooted.
The screen actually doesn't turn off I found out. The backlight is off completely, but the screen stays on for the preset amount of time.
Is there any way to stop the screen from lighting up to say the phone is charged?
I plug it in at night, & it sits on my nightstand about 2 feet from my face.
I may be a light sleeper, but it almost always wakes me up when it lights up saying the phone is charged!
Looked around in the settings, but didn't find anything yet.
Thanks!
Let me introduce you to the "blocking mode"
Look at : my device on the setting, and activate it, then set the time.
