CM7 Nightly75 CPU Settings? - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First time CM7 user here. Just got done installing nightly build 75, everything seems to have gone well. Have dals 4/24 kernel installed, but I can't seem to figure out why it limits my max frequency choices > 800 Mhz to 1200 MHZ and 1300 MHZ. I'd like to set it at 1000 or 1100 MHZ as I'm getting random shutdowns; I'm assuming that my nook can't handle the high clocks. Should I just use SetCpu to set my clocks?
Edit: Nvm, setcpu won't work either. Can't choose anything between 800 and 1200
Thanks

I haven't updated in a while. But if you skip dals kernal and just use the stock CM7, it should let you set it to 950 (i think).

Got the same question for th e 4/24 kernel which I just installed (running Phiremod 6.2, BTW).

Might give that a shot. How that I get a hold of the stock N75 cm7 kernel? would prefer not having to format and install everything all over again.

You're not supposed to use SetCPU with CM7 for clock speeds (it can create a conflict); generally recommended to only use the built in CM7 settings.
The reason those are the only speeds you are seeing, is because those are the set speeds in the Overclock kernel itself (that is how it was designed).
So, you can try going back to the original nightly kernel (I don't think those kernels are posted by themselves); OR you can also try flashing the stable 1.1 kernel by Dalingrin. This has more speed than stock, but less speed than the test kernel you are using now.

How do I go about updating 4/04 kernel for ext4 compatibility? Browsed the forums and was only able to find the 4/24 one.

Just flash the version of CM7 that you like over it. But don't wipe your Data or Cache. If you Flash CM7 over CM7 it should be cool. As always make a back up if you're concerned.

What's your max overclock?

As we all know, our Heros can be overclocked to different maximum frequencies depending on how lucky we are. So, I'm starting this thread because I'm curious as to how various Heros overclock.
To start off, my Hero is stable at 730MHz. It's the North American 3G version issued by Telus in Canada.
I was running at 710MHz but that was the limit of the kernel.
749 MHz, the limit of the kernel. But the phone runs faster on flykernel at 749 than another one I had at 800
GIYF 10 char
Well,I am a lucky guy obviously! My Hero can overclock @768 and be stable enough, but as the Gallery app crashes at this frequency(dunno why) I use it @749.But maximum overclock?800 MHz for a little less than a minute!
768 max, 19 min
Iirc
I have overclocked etc phones before but I am reluctant to do so on my hero (original ROM 2.1 intact). If I may ask, is it setCPU being used to overclock? Does the phone need to be rooted?
My Hero, and the XDA app, made this post possible.

Yes, the phone needs to be rooted in order to overclock.
I personally use Overclock Widget but I think SetCPU works as well.
710mhz works fine for me. 748 is very unstable and keeps rebooting
Running @ 748 on 3uk bought about 5 months ago.

Just got 768MHz running. Not sure how stable yet, time will tell. XD
Well I can only manage 698 I can push it to 710MHz but it locks up if I put any strain on the CPU (forcing SetCPU to actually ramp up the clocks past 698).
It sux to be me I suppose
My kernel only lets me overlock to 691 Mhz (EzHero default kernel). Where can i get a kernel wich allows higher values?

Dev needs to create or edit the kernel to allow higher values. Kernels are rom specific.
Running stable at 710mhz on a 5month old Hero.
Seems that anything higher than that, and it would just freeze or become incredible unstable!

ditto that
691 is max stable. 3 months old European Hero.
710 starts eventually loop boot animation.
I found that there is little to no difference between 691 and any above.
So I keep mine at 691.
currantly 156>710 i can push it up to 756 but a tad unstable. but been running at that for over a week now..
vallain 12 1 year old hero gsm
Mine is stable at 653 mHz... However it's almost a year old (it's birthday is 7. of august)

[Q] Overclock/Undervolt Procedure

I've been trying to find the best procedure to oc/uv my Droid X running rooted stock GB. Currently I'm using Milestone Overclock to adjust the max frequency and set vsel, as well as SetCpu for custom profiles. Milestone Overclock appears to only allow modifying vsel for the max frequency (rather than a distinct vsel for each frequency).
Is it sufficient to use Milestone's single vsel modification? Or should I be using another OC app like QuickClock for the best uv results?
Thanks for any help
I only use Milestone. Works for me. Battery life is fine.
I'm running at 1300MHz and vsel of 69.
Phone is stable and does not reboot itself.
I've used Droid Overclock an it has worked excellent.

I also recommend Droid Overclock. Very easy to use and the product is great!
I have been using JRUMMYS droid o/c and it worked well on froyo, it still works on GB but doesn't seem to have the same effect as it use to. I still like it for all the other features though. I have tried and tried to use milestone o/c and no matter what the settings it locks up my phone. Not sure why, I guess I am one of the lucky ones that can't o/c my cpu very much.
Thanks for the great responses. I've been experimenting the last few days with Milestone OC and the phone is regularly freezing up, and requires a re-boot. I expected this to go away as I lowered the cpu frequency or raised the voltage, but nothing has worked very well.
I am beginning to suspect launcher pro may be the cause. So I've gone back to the stock launcher and will see if the rebooting problems persist when overclocking.

[Q] Recommended CPU settings for Nook Color on CM9

I've flashed a NC with the CM9 nightly from a couple of days ago. The ROM works great but the device was much more responsive back when I had it on CM7 with NookTweaks installed.
I have not installed NookTweaks at the moment because what I've read leads me to believe that it's not fully compatible with CM9/ICS.
I've tried setting my CPU to 1100 MHz max frequency using the built-in Cyanogenmod performance settings, but this causes the device to freeze very regularly.
Does anyone have any suggestions to share on performance tweaking a CM9 NC? thanks!

Try downloading CPU Master from the market, and start out with 300 Mhz low and 1200 Mhz high, conservative mode. See how that works, then experiment with other settings. That being said, CM7.2 is much more responsive than CM9. CM9 is still in development.
Running better, thanks for the tip about CPUMaster, Brent. No crashes yet. Will report back when I've played with it some more.

For me choosing InteractiveX Governor (called scaling on CPU Master) improved performance quite a bit.
Trying alternative Launchers like Nova can also make basic scrolling etc on the main desktop screens quite a bit more responsive.

Now I've tried a bit more I find that my previous good result with InteractiveX was working well with January builds of CM9. I'm finding that Conservative actually works better for me with recent builds and smoother than either InteractiveX or OnDemand.
I've been using 300 min and 1200 max and InteractiveX for a while now on both CM7 and now CM9 and it seems to work really well. I'll have to try Conservative again I guess.

[Q] Cyanogenmod 10 with Trinity 7 CPU overclocking

So I'm kind of new to messing around with tablets but learning a few things. On my Nexus 7 I decided to put Cyanogenmod 10 on it so I could customize a few things. I then decided I wanted to overclock the max CPU frequency past 1300 MHz so I installed Trinity 7 kernel. Now I'm able to run it at 1700 MHz which runs a few apps much faster but after exiting out of the apps and going back to check on the max CPU frequency and it's set back down to 1300 MHz.
Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this? So far there's only one app I'm overclocking for so it's not a big issue but it would still be nice to figure out the issue.
Thanks
I down loaded too. I just changed the governer to performance and it stays on 1600 etc on set cpu

There might be an option for "set at boot." Try that.

That's not the solution. The performance governor keeps the cpu speed at max frequency at all times (even when screen is off). That will eat up your battery quick.

Thanks that seemed to have fixed it though I figured out you have to turn that on THEN pick the max CPU frequency. Doing it the other way around won't change anything, I think that's what I tried before.
Also mccolvinj I'd personally leave it on interactive so it will just use the max CPU when needed or at least that's what I got out of the descriptions of governors I looked up.
EDIT: Nevermind...that only temporarily fixed it, it went back to 1300 after a bit. Maybe I installed Trinity 7 wrong?

I think so since it's rooted, is there a way I can check or give it permissions?
you need the powerHAL "fix". your rom should include it, but i guess it doesnt. search the n7 forums for a flashable. or, the trinity kernel toolbox app includes the "fix" just in case your rom doesnt.

kernels arent rooted, your roms are. you can flash a custom kernel on a rom without root. the only difference is that you wouldnt be able to control the cpu with ant cpu control apps, the apps need root.
ive posted the solution already. either find the flashable powerHAL fix or use the trinity kernel toolbox to control the kernel. tkt includes the powerHAL fix.

Cant OC on Boeffla Kernal

Got correct kernal for stock sammy rom, installed ok, tells me its there, the higher frequencies are all listed in the apps ive tried( paid and non paid|) i just cant set the kernal above the usual 2.4 speed
latest 2.5 version installed using TWRP 3.0.0.0

Really? How did you check that you couldn't increase CPU max frequency?
I am also on Boefla and can't reproduce your issue - OC works well (see my screenshots).
Nevertheles I don't recommend overclocking as it may cause more issues than benefits. Just checked it for you to prove that it works.
Ok thanks..I've installed a light ROM and left the kernel stock.thatll do me

How did you overclocked without becoming unstable? Everytime I overclock my phone it reboots itself when I try benchmark or playing games. Will you show your me cpu voltages?

How much you can OC or UV is related to your hardware which is unique to each phone (one can more where other not).
I only did OC for short time with Boefla kernel to prove the user who asked that it works and only for this purpose. During this time it worked well -> no reboots.
Just after I reverted back as I never do OC or UV for my daily usage (exactly due to potential unstability).
