Hi Youngers!
I got a friend's Y that doesn't have any signal or service with a working SIM. It only displays an X on top of the empty signal bars. I configured it's APN, and flashed another modem , but it's still doesn't work. Any help will be appreciated.

Try some troubleshooting. Test his sim on another phone and see if it works there.
Is he on a custom rom? Creeds Rom 3.4 had a bug where you cant see the signal even though it has a signal. Can he still send messages even when signal bar is X?
Also, APN wont do anything for the signal, its only for mobile internet browsing with your carrier. Hmmm... are you talking about surfing through your carrier? or basic services like calls and texts?

Thanks for replying! It's running creed's v2. When you try to place a call it says "Mobile Network not Available". I tried his SIM card on an unlocked Atrix 4G and it made a call successfully. Texting doesn't work either. He said when he had this problem he took it to some unlock/repair shop and they failed to state what exactly was causing this.

If all else fails, go back to stock rom or try another rom
(Though I suggest latest stock rom with merruk kernel and superuser opened)

I flashed the ROM below, after i flashed it, booted up then i installed merruk 2.0 final. Did the airplane mode, but it still doesn't work. The APN looks fine. I really don't know what's causing this.

Your phone is network locked or something like that I guess.
Best way to get it solved is to post your query in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647703
Doky73 will surely help you out
I advise to flash this pack: S5360B_UTLC2_ZTOLC_UTLC1 (open Brasil)
Flash all 3 part (PDA, MODEM, CSC)
If it does not help, then send me your bml15.img.SAVE (made by Galaxy Toolbox)
hey pal i also encountered this kind of problem before after patching Creeds ROM. What i did was I reflash the rom with stock Galaxy Y via ODIN or after the first successful boot of selected customize ROM. then you will need to apply the CSC depending on what network your country has. like mine i choose either from SMA/GLB/XTE. just dial #272* IMEI code. I hope this will help.:good:
so.. I have this phone parked in my drawer for almost a month and finally decided to seek for online help.
Last rom installed is cm7 (but i've tryed several others cm7.2 cm9 cm10 cm10.1). I've tryed using both the baseband switcher included in the rom settings (where avaiable) and the standalone apk. I live in Italy so I chose Italy in the baseband selection (again.. I've tryed several others basebands just in case...). The sim card is a working VodafoneIT sim card and it is recognized by the phone.
the problem is that my phone does not lock to any network and I see the message "emergency calls only".
I also tryed to flash original sbf from here.
I don't know if it matters but logcat reports these errors:
Code:
E/GSM ( 6427): RIL implementation has returned an error where it must succeedcom.android.internal.telephony.CommandExcep tion: GENERIC_FAILURE
D/RILSWITCH( 2018): RILD unknown at cell -1
E/GSM ( 6427): Wrong network type: 0
I remember that at the time of when the problem showed up the first time, looking on the internet, in addition to the advice of changing the baseband, I found a thread where someone was talking about a possible hardware fail.. but I can't find it anymore.
any suggestion?
thanks
up????
i'm also having this problem
anyone found the fix?
Does the same error occur in stock? If so then I think it's a hardware issue. You could try a different sbf of your carrier and region(a newer one), but I do not think it would help much.

Try with different bands from your country or another country with the same frequencies.
Pull the batery out for a few seconds.
Use the latest version of the standard app (not defy parts).
Regards,
It works for me with a different company of my country
My chip is Personal_AR and with this don't work, but with Claro_Ar works fine...
THX it's make me crazy
I was going to post in the actual thread for the ROM but apparently you have to have at least 10 posts, so hopefully someone on this subforum can help me with this issue.
Basically, it's the issue stated in the thread about the network dropping out when you lock the screen, selecting GSM fixes the issue, but obviously I lose H+ connectivity by doing this.
I've tried doing the LTE fix in the Foxhound settings, and also flashing the MJ5 Modem suggested in the thread, but it's still saying no network when I turn the screen off.
It's been a great ROM apart from this.. so I'd really like to keep it, it's much better than stock was.
Thanks for any help.
I can confirm, I'm having the same issue. Network is great until screen is turned off. Only way I can get network back is to rescan mobile networks and select my carrier.
Take a look at my post here that i replied earlier to that was about the same issue as you have: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47795508#post47795508
When i wrote that, then i was using the 'XXUEMK8' modem. Now ther are a newer moden out that is called 'XXUEMKE' that you can find in the last link where you can find the modems in my post there.
And remember to follow the instructions 100% as it might not work to just flash the modem just one time, so you might have to do the 'flash the modem 2 times' instructions on my post there.
EDIT: I realize that the topic was a bit old, so i'm not sure if this got solved or not.
I've seen people saying they have a baseband for GSM and another for LTE. Where can I see this? All I see in "About phone" is "Baseband". It doesnt say specific for GSM or LTE.
And How can I get different basebands for each radio? In baseband collection thread all of them are just 1 zip file, so it updates both, right?

anyone?
I see .zip packages that are supposed to upgrade GSM modem to one specific version and LTE to other version at the same time. Where can I check that?
Here (every modem you could ever want in that thread as well).

Thank you!
I was thinking that as well, but in Omega ROM's thread there is a zip file that flashes a modem for GSM and another for LTE
**If you are having the old bootloader XXUB flash GSM_Modem_XXUEMJ5_and_LTE_Modem_XXUBMH1.tar file with odin by selecting phone.
**If you are having the new bootloader XXUD flash GSM_Modem_XXUEMJ5_and_LTE_Modem_XXUEMJ5.tar file with odin by selecting phone.
That's why I'm asking.
Any idea?
You shouldn't need to touch/flash another LTE modem unless you have problems, the one already on the device should work just fine. I don't know specifically what might be in Omega rom to require those instructions as I've never used it, but I'm running XXUEMJ5 GSM modem with the 'old' bootloader on Foxhound 3.1, and everything is working as it it should. I've never touched the LTE modem/the one that was on the device when I bought it is still on it & LTE works fine in areas where my carrier has LTE coverage.
If you're about to flash Omega rom, I'd say follow the instructions (or ask in the thread), if you're not, I (your mileage might vary though, obviously) wouldn't touch the LTE modem at all unless you have problems with LTE connectivity, WiFi or sound.
Edit - Going back through some posts/threads I have bookmarked from months ago, people who messed around with non-HLOS.bin files seemed to have a funny habit of borking their WiFi & other stuff. As I said above, I wouldn't be flashing one separately unless you had a good reason to (I.E something like the Omega thing where it's a specific instruction as part of flashing the rom), or flashing a rom/something else borks your WiFi/LTE/sound or whatever as I said above, the one already on your phone should do the job.

thank you vey much, but....
too late hahaha I've read your post right after flashing that zip. Everything seems fine but can't test LTE yet because my plan doesnt support it. I'll try to upgrade to LTE this week and I'll search for a method to revert LTE baseband if I need it in the future.
Thanks again sir.
Hello all,
I am relatively new to custom roms and flashing my phone, I'm trying to learn as i go but I've found myself stumped.
I've recently flashed goldeneye rom, and ive been having issues with my signal strength, if my phone is even in my pocket i with have no signal
I previously ran cyanogenmod 11 and had no issues
I am on the MTS network in Manitoba, Canada
my baseband version is
I337MVLUAMG1
I'm getting confused when i try to look into all the different modem version
anyone have any suggestion on which one to try?
did you follow Canadian install instructions in OP. IE--Kernel Fix
Hello, I´m having the same problem with the signal.
I can´t find the fix you mention, would you be kind enough to point to it.
The rom is very well done, the only problem for me at least is the signal when the phone is with the screen turn off and i lose all signal.
I've been experiencing the same trouble with goldeneye and echoe illusion rom. As soon as I stop using the phone line or internet, the connection usually goes away after 15sec to 2-3 minutes. I have to ask the phone to look for signal again and choose the service provider to get back service, which usually takes 30sec. When I click on my service provider I get back to 3-4 bar signal strength instantly.
I can't find that link. You will have to research it.
You guys should really start your own threads in Q&A. Hijacking one makes it hard for others to follow with 3 different posts on maybe 3 different solutions. It may or may not be the same answer for all of you. One may just be not a clean flash. One may not be flashing correct modem etc. I am not on i337m.
When you start your thread give all your info like phone info, how you flashed, any details on what you did to fix, build number etc etc. More the better.
Good Luck--:good:
if you're on kitkat based rom but still have jelly bean modem you will have signal drops. when I updated to kk I first flashed the modem alone (NC1 in my case) while still on jelly bean and then I updated to kk based rom.
