Xperia Arc Update 2.3.3 next week - Xperia Arc General

Source:
engadget.com/2011/05/19/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-arc-getting-android-2-3-4-update-next

That is probably 99.9% right, habe never know Engadget to be wrong about release dates of stuff.

By saying next week they probably mean the last day of the next week, so 10 more days to go

ugh, dont know if i like that.... i dont want to have it too integrated with facebook as i do value my privacy. hopefully there's an option to turn it off

To work with Facebook you need to sign in. HTC sense is also really integrated with Facebook (twitter flicker) but you have to sign in. If you don't sign in the function doesn't work.

Yay for 2.3.4. Nay for Facebook integration. I like it the way it is right now. Please make Facebook integration optional Sony Ericsson.
Let's just hope Rogers pushes it out next week as well.

IT IS optional you can turn it completely off from the menu! )

Well I won't update it immediately when I comes out. I'll wait and see if Gingerbreak works on the new firmware. And can unlock the HBOOT.

I hope this update brings the much anticipated fixes for the ARC, it's SO close to being perfect, come on SE!

there is an update on that article, the version of the new android update for the Arc will be 2.3.3

Anyone knows what other improvements will be brought by this updates in addition to Facebook intergration? I left a message on SE product launch blog to Rikard, but didnt get any response yet.

So, I'm wondering if the update is for both LT15i and LT15a.

what Nimche said, but to answer your question, I'm sure if it WERE the case that SE were jumping straight to 2.3.4, hypothetically, yes. This would be possible. I couldn't forsee any issues with it...

Dont care about facebook integration, just hope it fixes that camera battery drain bug.

Correction..
Its not 2.3.4 its 2.3.3 ....
Look again at Engadget.....it has been corrected by them........

Wasn't there a member that had their Xperia Arc already on 2.3.3? Wonder if he has all of these features already...

New Firmware out! Or maybe not?

Hey guys,
in a german board someone said he is in contact with the SE support and today he was told that there is a new firmware out. It's called R2BAxxx and should fix the battery issues.
In an other board someone posted this
Hi guys!
The next firmware is due soon and it's called R2BA013.... it's contains some new features such as small ui improvements in timescape and mediascape and the creatuch app. This firmware is blazing fast and very much improved from .016. The battery time is also improved and it seems that the screen resolution looks better too. Also the face-recognition is very much improved. There is also a nice "slide" animation when browsing through pictures. All in all, this is probably what SE had in mind when releasing X10, and all I can say is that it's really good and I'm very pleased.
So if there's someone out there who's not sure to buy this phone because of the minor problems that's know in 0.14 firmware, I can almost guarantee you that this will fix them all and make you very pleased with the performance of the X10

Yes i know that 2.1 will come in september but there must be an update before that to kill the issues like battery lifetime. This one will do that an bring us some ui improvements and timescape / mediascape fixes.
Guy's i can't seem to be able to update from even 1.04 to 1.06.
have you unbranded your handset? Seems to hit the unbranded ones first... others will be controlled by their network.
Hi all.. don't know if anyones heard anything official from SE on this or not?
I've just emailed there support email [email protected]

Cheers. Alan.
i have debranded my x10 rogers to generic NA x10a firmware. i seriously doubt that SE will release a firmware for this firmware seeing how the phone isn't officially released here in the states except for the x10i models.
i think for those of us with X10a, i think we will be waiting for the firmware update in late may or even in september. that's my take anyways.

Google releases Froyo update for Nexus Ones, open-sources code (from GSM Arena)

Lucky Nexus One bustards
As owners for X10, are we eligible for this update??
-----------------------------
Google is also celebrating today - Android 2.2 Froyo has reached two important milestones. Google open sourced the latest version and they are pushing out the final Froyo update to Nexus One users. And we're sure the timing has nothing to do with the launch of the iPhone 4.
Sure, Froyo has been available to Nexus One users for a while (mostly on dev phones and through manual updates), but this seems to be the final, official version of Android 2.2. You could manually download the update from here (it works only if you're running FRF50 firmware), though if you don't know what you're doing, you should wait for the OTA update.
Your Nexus One should automatically check for updates or you could force a check (go to Settings -> About phone -> System updates), so one way or another you should be getting a notification that a new version is available and download it Over-the-Air.
Some people are reporting that the update is not available for them yet, so it might not work right away - rolling out updates is a gradual process and it varies by location too.
The other important milestone for Android 2.2 Froyo is that Google open-sourced the code to their partners and manufacturers and everyone else too. This means that they can start working on Froyo firmwares for the non-Google phones.
------------------------------------------
Can we have official feedback from SE guys?

Well the Nexus One is a Google brand phone so it's no huge surprise that the Nexus gets it first. It'd be more suprising if it didn't.

Totally agree with you, but I believe SE should consider updating us (X10 users) to the 2.2 not 2.1
Anybody is reading from SE team???

The way I see it with Android devices is that you buy the hardware and then hack the software to hell and back. Just didn't count on the X10 being so hard to mod when I got it, guess I'm too used to HTC phones.

I understand that 'root' has been achieved, but won't there be further delays until a stable custom Rom is created for the x10?

Thought as much. From the posts on other threads it seems as though posters think root and ROM will appear simultaneously.
I can imagine that the first ROMs we'll get our hands on will have all sorts of bugs, and we'll have to compromise on things like WiFi, Bluetooth e.t.c. Maybe due to lack of drivers available.
I'm going on past experience from The G1 and old WinMo devices.
Oh well.......
Remember to be realistic, guys. The devs can't just copy and paste Froyo onto our X10s without a hitch. It will take some time. I'm not even anticipating a stable version of Froyo on the X10 because it is a huge task.
What I'd like to see is the latest FW but stripped down with no branding or operator software (and no Moxier crap!!!). And if it's possible, for Flash to be released on the X10. That may not be feasible but I certainly hope it's available. SE takes forever!!

Sorry, but this news is nothing interesting.
I dont care about facebook integration. They need to focus to fix the problems with the ARC instead of doing this.
And the release of some budget phones is also not interesting since this is the ARC place
seriously! FB integration! I dont give a rats arse..LOL
all that junk will only increase battery use and will be added into the list of bloatware to be removed!!
Well.. I'm quite interested.. I use FB a fair bit so I'll be impressed if this is a good integration..... and I'm sure that the update won't just be for this.. they'll also include the 2.3.3 update and numerous bug fixes too.

New ARCs are expected Within a Week or so.

Anyways .. Thanks a lot for the Info dear.
Gah! This sort of inane crap (who f*!&ing cares if it takes one less click to 'like' something on facebook?) is what makes it take longer to get updates out for the phone (see HTC sense). All of this deep integration means that every time there's a new version of android they have to reintegrate all of this garbage from scratch instead of just plonking the app on top.
There's already a facebook app. It works. We can use it if we want. Or use a browser. Leave it at that. Why does it have to have its tentacles into every part of the phone? IT'S JUST A WEBSITE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.
Jesus christ sony, you were heading in the right direction, don't balls it up now.
Is that magic update ready to download?
Sent from my Xperia Arc
@daveybaby - I very much doubt that it will be deep integration.. it will be built into the SE launcher, like TS, and all the other widgets they've created.. that all now floats (mostly) above the OS layer so this FB integration won't affect that.
personallly i don't care of this kind of add. First they should keep android up to date and bugless than after, if they have time to lose adding theses features
I am sure that all bugs will be fixed...the FB talk is a cover up...news cant read 'SE to fix bugs in the next update'. it sounds better for the company when you are releasing a new version with something new, even though it may not be anything many of us care about...and like most of the stock stuff, users who dont like the new FB stuff will not have to compulsorily use it..
Native Google facebook integration has been removed from 2.3.3 and is not back in 2.3.4 either . I'm guessing it would need to be through Timescape and contact integration if they did improve it.

Mostly Bug fixes, maybe improved battery life, and small build increase in the some of the built in apps like Gmail and browser etc.
Then you got all the new Sony stuff on top, so should be good.
and the all important fix to the user data encryption problem recently made public... which is prevalent in all Android versions upto 2.3.4!

Except that can and is being fixed server-side by Google, so not having 2.3.4 isn't as big an issue as it might be.
Plus, the problem only occurs when using unsecured wi-fi networks - the clue is in the name

Yeah, they pushed out a minor bug-fix.
This is a combination bug-fix and update to the next version of Android, of course that's going to take more time.
When other manufacturers like HTC are only just updating their current handset range to 2.3.2 and SE are updating the Arc and Play from 2.3.2, I don't really see why you're being so negative.
Pretty new to the android stuff so,
Will this be an OTA Update?
My Phione is unlocked and rootet, any issues for updating?
Last question will it wipe your phone?
thx for replies...
@Karooluss This will be the 2nd update for the arc....
It launched on build .181 and is now .184.
So uhm...... 2 updates (including an android version update), and the phone's only been about 2 months. Not bad going?
Ronniecross, I have still 181 fw fersion although I check for new almost every day. 184 is probably update only for UK and it add some unnecessary stuff like bbc player?? Correct me if I m not right;-)

Android market silent OTA

Hi!
Since gingerbread update on my DHD I never got the 2.3.6 version of Android Market.
I'm still stuck on 2.3.4.
Is it the same for you?
I'm wondering if there is an OTA bug on DHD, and if we'll be able to get the new market (3.0.27)...
I know that I could just install the APK, but previous "silent" OTA used to work before the gingerbread update, so I wonder why it didn't with v2.3.6...
Thanks for your info!
Thats whats happened to all of us. The reason really is- The Gingerbread FOTA update was released before the new market was announced.
According to sources like engadget and pocketnow , most high end phones should expect the upgrade within the next couple of weeks. If that's too long for you (as is for most of us) you can simply take the .apk which can be found on the forums here.
indeed, manually installing the apk works just fine, i did it myself

Yes, but it doesn't explain why we never got the 2.3.6 after, while the other devices were receiving it with silent OTA.
Does anyone know whether the new Market available on xda is the same as the expected final release?
I really like the interface of the new Market but it feels a little slow at times.
Duncan
I'm still in 2.3.4, whereas everyone is reporting getting the new 3.1.3 version...
Why don't we get any of the latest 3 market OTA?!? Did htc broke the ability of our phones to upgrade themselves?
It seems that the Desire Z has the same issue...
Heard it was only release in the US.
It has been release in the UK only last week and it was only to Samsung devices...
