Screen rotate. - Desire HD General

The home screens on my dhd do not rotate when I have my phone on its side. It dose work when using apps but not on the home screens, is this correct?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Yep, that's normal.

Sense on DHD does not support landscape mode. If you want landscape try an homescreen alternative like ADW or LauncherPro.

Or you can flash Coredroid Mod in his thread.

Can the Home Screen be displayed in landscape mode?
Yeah, there's an app called Home++ that has several features, including letting you use the homescreen in landscape mode.
also works on helix launcher too.

[Q] How to rotate the home screen

This is my first time using Sense. Is there a way to rotate the home screen so that it's in landscape format?

turn the phone to landscape and the home page will turn to landscape, too, same as all android phones.

I'll get my Mytouch tomorrow UPS... but in my Evo you can go to settings/display and put a check in the box "auto-rotate screen." I've only had 3 androids and they all do the same thing. I hope the MT4G is a lot different!
He...he...he... That's kind of why I'm asking the question cause on the G1 it was automatic when you flip the phone. I can't seem to do that on this phone even when the auto-rotate is already set.

Gosh, does this phone have an accelerometer? That's what causes it to know when you switch directions.
yes, it auto-rotates just fine when you're in an app. I just can't seem to rotate the home screen to landscape mode. I've tried.
Geez guyz!!! it's mytouch Sense and stock ROM! What are you talking about?

well, don't take my word for credit, but as far as I know home screen in Sense doesn't have landscape view unless custom ROM.
ugh... darn. There goes that... so begins the waiting game for a custom rom

My evo with HTC sense has landscape in the homescreen. all apps and the clock turn to landscape and the dock goes to the right side of the screen but all apps in the dock turn to landscape.

That's correct. mySense doesn't have landscape view, but when in apps it will turn to landscape. If you want landscape on your home screen you'll need to root and install a custom rom (once available), or install a launcher replacement from the Market such as LauncherPro or ADW which do have landscape view for home.

OK, my mistake... SENSE doesn't have landscape on the home screen. I forgot I was running LauncherPro so after reading this, I logged back into sense and yep, it's portrait only... I never noticed that. I guess because I spent so little time running sense. But I may never have noticed because I never go to landscape while on the home pages, and I don't see any reason to? The only time I use landscape is when I'm typing, watching movies, and when I'm in web pages. Why would you want to be in landscape on your home screen?

Because I have a stand that I put the phone on and it fits snugly in landscape mode. I want it to behave as if it's in a dock.
Since I came from a rooted phone, I didn't know if that ability was present in stock sense.

Launcher pro = missing HTC widgets

Is there way around loosing all of the HTC widgets when installing launcher pro.....namely the beautiful widget?
I have the beautiful widget .apk but I don't think it will work as well as the mt4g stock version.
Also, I had to un install launcher pro to go back to using the sense UI. I tried using home switcher without any luck.

I think the stock HTC widgets will not work as they require HTC framework and code in the Launcher to utilize it. i.e. you have to use Espresso Launcher for them to work.
As for installing and uninstalling Launcher Pro... I have no idea as I use ADW and can freely switch, although I never do.
Thanks.... wish the "faves" button and the "genious" button could be changed..... a side from those "features" I don't mind the sense UI.

If all else fails you can always clear defaults in settings.
Menu -> settings -> applications -> manage applications -> all -> (find your current launcher) touch it -> press the "clear defaults" button
The above also works for your internet, messaging, etc
-Cheers

The old fancy widget looks exactly like the htc clock. That's why they had to change it. Its easy to find on the net.
Doesn't do the flipping action like the HTC one does. In fact, I believe only the newest versions of the HTC clock actually flip. I ran the HTC flip clock on my Desire ported ROM on the N1 and it didn't flip there either.
Thanks.
Not only does the newest HTC clock flip, when it rains a windshield wiper wipes your screen. When it's cloudy your screen clouds up. Pretty neat effects i thought.
I .got over it though. Ive had weatherbug elite for a while so im back to using it with launcher pro and aquarium live wallpaper.
I like a nice clean screen..... so those large iphone like icons combined with no customizable dock had to go.

Beautiful Widgets are the exact same thing. Clock and the Weather animation. Comes on everytime you unlock also.
The newest FancyWidget Pro is the closest thing I've found to replacing the HTC Clock Widget. FancyWidget Pro is awesome though! Super customizable and it can display the battery percentage right on the widget! I've switched to LPP and FW instead of mySense. Only thing LPP needs now is a News/RSS widget and it'll beat Sense hands down!

LauncherPro Rotation Problem

Anyone use LauncherPro? There appears to be a bug in the newest version which, if you opt to turn off auto rotation on the home screen, then it won't rotate even when u slide they keyboard out. Wondering if anyone else is experiancing this? My temp fix is switching back to the previous version but this is not something I want to continue doing if later versions still have this bug.

Just checked and I've got the same problem. Personally, I prefer to have auto rotation on so itns not really a problem for me. It should definitely be fixed, though.

Discovered just now that if you go into menu-> settings->screen and remove the mark at Autorotate it works as intended. Launcher Pro is set to autorotate.
Hope it helps

Currently using launcher products with cm7 and I don't have a problem with the rotation as indicated above.

I'd rather have all my apps, etc auto rotate, but would rather LauncherPro only rotates when I open the keyboard because sometimes I accidently hold it at an angle or something and it gets annoying. Also, when I turn the device and push the camera button it slows it down slightly if it has to rotate first. The latest version of LauncherPro seems to be the only one with this issue.

I also was having this problem with my Motorola Droid and whpsnp's suggestion worked.
Menu -> Settings -> Display - > Auto-rotate screen is unchecked
Menu -> Preferences -> Behavior Settings -> Enable Auto-rotation is checked
This way the screen only rotates when the slider is open.
But then doesn't this stop other apps from auto rotating?

I just checked my Facebook app and it rotates to landscape when the slider is open, so it seems it doesn't affect that functionality. Not sure about other apps
I want other apps to auto rotate when I turn the screen. But I want launcherpro to only rotate when I open the keyboard. The newest launcherpro doesn't do this.

lol yea im sure ive had at least one device that when you setup a home screen go portrait then back landscape you would have half your widgets added to a new homescreen. jellybean is soposed to solve this issue but still not all app widgets are 100% resizable

Hi, Natenatenate...
You mention you are using Apex...
The trick with Apex (if you want to use it in both landscape and portrait) is to ensure the 'grid' setup is identical in each.
I have found a 6 x 6 icon arrangment for both landscape and portrait optimal, with margins both vertical and horizontal set to 'small'.
...and do not use the Tablet UI setting...
Below are my screenshots...
In landscape, note how the dock bar and search bar are now down the left and right hand sides of the screen respectively... this preserves 'aspect ratio' and negates the squashed effect you report.
Finally, the dock bar can support up to 7 icons (at 100% size), with the dock bar horizontal margin set to 'small'.
Hope this helps...
Rgrds,
Ged.
