Hello,
Apart from /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 (/system), it seems that /dev/block/mmcblk0p6 (mounted to /flexrom) contains the information needed for Acer's update system. Since I have flashed the chineese update.zip, my flexrom data contains the chineese info that prohibits me from updating. I want to revert to stock. Flashing update.zip and then a system image is not enough, since you are left with the wrong data in the flexrom partition.
Could someone please upload a dump of his /dev/block/mmcblk0p6 and /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 while in ACER_A500_1.016.05_COM_GEN1?
Use the following commands:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 of=/sdcard/system.img
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 of=/sdcard/flexrom.img
I think we need a way to be able to restore to stock!!!!
Thanks!
Noone can give me a dump?
I'LL try to help you.

thanks mate!
First file here (flexrom.img) : http://dl.free.fr/uQluj8M9P
100MB compressed into 1.71MB
The second one (system.img) is 600 compressed to about 341MB. it will take time to upload
Can you give me an email where i can send the upload notification?
Upload of system.img started, going to bed.
I'll post the link tomorrow morning.
Testing here...
Alright, I know its not my post but I am trying to get back to stock already too... I already have the system.img from another xda member... I have downloaded the flexrom.img (thanks for the upload!!!)
This is what I have done:
Opened terminal emulator and went SU
Here is the command and the response...
# dd if=/sdcard/flexrom.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6
204800+0 records in
204800+0 records out
104857600 bytes transferred in 35.551 secs (2949497 bytes/sec)
#
Now... time for factory reset and see where this takes us... jejeje
UPDATE: I have restored the tablet to factory settings and came back (what I consider) 100% back to stock. The welcome screen was in english and everything. About to sign in and test gApps and stuff... THANKS GUYS!!! AWESOME!!!
hey thanks a lot man for detail manual) now i need to manage set up a system.img because ive always got stack at acer logo after placing system.img into mmcblkp0p3
Check this for your issues.
I have a post to do this over at ppc... I have a link there with the update.zip and the system.img I have. download it and use that one. I have what to do in my post...

Thanks gents, great work! This was the missing piece I needed for complete recovery, but I just didn't know it yet! I had already completely restored a few days ago with the Chinese zip and a US system.img, but didn't realize the flexrom partition was hosed as well. I just flashed that as well with no issues. A 100Mb partition zipped to 1.7Mb LOL. Again, great work!
In case some are wondering why in the world I would have to do this. I was doing some research trying to get the netflix apk to work by experimenting in /system with stagefright and OMX libraries from the CM distro that works. One of the new .so files I copied in hosed me up and I couldn't get past the acer boot image. I was somewhat fearless since we had the Chinese zip and I had my system.img. And it turned out it was pretty easy to recover, but I don't recommend this for newbs or the faint of heart LOL.
I'm looking for a stock system.img for Acer_A500_1.016.04_COM_GEN1 or Acer_A500_1.139.04_COM_GEN1. Australian model if anyone has one, as requested here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088063
Sorry if the archive is corrupted, I'll upload it again , it will be available in about two hours

Here is your "knew how"... jejeje
You have to ROOT your A500 first... then use terminal emulator and type SU (this will give it Super User Access) then use the following commands:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 of=/sdcard/system.img
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 of=/sdcard/flexrom.img
This will give you the actual system image (first command)
Second command gives you the partition where the update information is located.
Let me know if you need help rooting, its really easy, just remember to have your tablet in PORTRAIT not landscape or Gingerbreak will FORCE CLOSE!!!
Hope this helps... jejeje
I got a replacement A500 from JB HiFi. I will update to Acer_A500_1.139.04_COM_GEN1 then create a system.img.
This would be much appreciated! I'm in Australia, and having some issues too. Thanks again.

You should be able to just copy the image onto your A500 and run the following as root: dd if=/dev/block/system-1.139.04.img of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p3
Be careful though, I honestly haven't tested the image but it should be fine.
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
so that means use command line and copy image onto SD card?
Sounds simple enough just gotta wait for 8 hours for download
Than again juzman very helpfull

I used the fsum utility on Windows and believe I created an MD5 checksum: 3A0AF183D5E582CBEA1D1F6BC7A61EA6
Will we need the flexrom as well when flashing this system image?
Also, this thread contains some original kernel modules: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13974214&postcount=62
Will the modules linked there be compatible with this current AU system image in the event of gps/wifi issues?
Thanks again!

Is that definitely the correct md5 checksum? I've downloaded the file twice and both times I get an md5 of 850d68aac56169b211a4913de7e4e8e9

I used Better Terminal Emulator (with the extensions installed). Make sure after installing the extensions (after the prompt) to go into options, select root by default, then type exit (or CTRL-D) to close the terminal so it reinitializes with all the extensions (the icon on the taskbar must be gone). Afterwards do your stuff. After flashing the system.img the tablet might reboot (show the android boot logo) and cycle. Just power down holding the button long enough, and power back on, then flash the other img.
Hi Me again
dd if=/sdcard/system.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3
I did the above thingy and it just extracted mmcblk0p3 into sdcard
How do i install it ??
i cant just run it so i presume there is some kind of command or something in terminal?
Is it possible to get the flexrom too?
Thanks
Can someone dump system and flexrom from ACER_A500_1.139.05_COM_GEN1, so that those that do not get the OTA or have previously flashed the chineese ROM can update manually their devices?
Commands are:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 of=/sdcard/system.img
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 of=/sdcard/flexrom.img

I just flashed the Acer_A500_1.139.05_COM_GEN1 system image and flexrom to my system and I just noticed my version still shows Acer_A500_1.104.05_COM_GEN1
Hrm, is this normal?
Something may have gone wrong during the flash. I just flashed the flexrom and system images and mine reports as 1.139.05_COM_GEN1 now. There seems to be an issue with the wifi and GPS on mine now, though. I ran logcat while trying to enable wifi, and it looks like there's a driver missing.
Code:
E/WifiService( 115): Invoking mWifiStateMachine.setWifiEnabled
E/WifiStateMachine( 115): Failed to load driver!
E/WifiStateMachine( 115): DriverFailedState

and download the appropriate modules for your new kernel (the old modules don't load because they don't match with the kernel version). The correct ones are those at the bottom, with 991.
Decompress, copy to /system/lib/modules. Use insmod /system/lib/modules/bcm..... and insmod /system/lib/modules/scsi..... (not sure if necessary). Reboot.
BTW - Can anyone tell me where the option to calibrate the g-sensor is after the update? I cannot find it in settings, and the change log claims it's new.
Unfortunately the screen on issue persists after the update.

Did you use the commands in the first post by any chance?
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 of=/sdcard/system.img
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 of=/sdcard/flexrom.img
If yes, you've just overwritten the system.img and flexrom.img on the root of your sdcard. Those commands were for making the images from the actual partitions.
You will need to copy back system.img and flexrom.img to /sdcard. Afterwards do:
dd if=/sdcard/system.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3
dd if=/sdcard/flexrom.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6
Might be a good idea to reboot in between (at least I had to, but I was using the terminal on the A500 to flash the images).
After you're done you will notice you don't have WiFi anymore (it will say Error). See post above about how to get it back.
Odd thing, I still have root after the update (update shows in About correctly). Am wondering if I have missed anything. I had lots of frozen apps, but theoretically they shouldn't have been in the way. I cannot find the G-Sensor Calibration tool either (any idea where it is?)

Aha, thanks! I tried with the kernel version you suggested, but insmod threw an exec failure. I looked at the kernel version again in device info, and it was 2.6.36.3-00001-g9b3ce2b, so I grabbed that archive (the middle of the three in the post you linked) and everything is working great now. I haven't had any luck finding the g-sensor calibration yet, though.
GPS status (https://market.android.com/details?id=app-com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2) I believe has a calibration feature in its new version.

Here is the situation:
I will be getting a Brand new fresh untouched A500 later in the week as a replacement for my faulty one (Micros SD slot no longer working).
I want to make a full backup of some sort to share with the XDA community. I am in Australia and know that a number of people are looking for a copy of this rom to restore back to original for whatever reason.
I believe it should be shipped with 1.016.04_Com_Gen1.
I have had experience using CWM and rooting on this device and have flashed several roms to my device in the past. I can also do a full backup in CWM. I also have a working adb.
What format does the community really want, and how do I go about creating it.
I am willing to help other by providing this rom, but want to know the best format to supply it in and get it right first go.
Step by Step instructions required please. We have a week to sort this out before I get the unit.
Cheers,
Michael.

I ll wait for it, mine was on that firmware...
Thinking this is probably the best way:
Backup the first 0x680000 bytes of mmcblk0 and all partitions (except cache + data) with dd:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 bs=512 count=13312 of=/mnt/external_sd/dumps/mmcblk0_start
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1 of=/mnt/external_sd/dumps/p1
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 of=/mnt/external_sd/dumps/p2
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 of=/mnt/external_sd/dumps/p3
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 of=/mnt/external_sd/dumps/p5
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 of=/mnt/external_sd/dumps/p6
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 of=/mnt/external_sd/dumps/p7
Comments???
Agreed. Also make a CWM backup after that for convenience. After trial and error I found it does restore properly too as long as you don't forget about the recovery.img (has to be restored from acer recovery installer app)
On my thread CWM always gave checksum error for the others unfortunately.
I'll be waiting to see how you go with this. I was one of those who stupidly/ impatiently updated using the leaked acer update before understanding the need for a backup of my original. :-(

P.S ... did you get any update notification afterwards ?
These are CWM created image files. Cache and data removed.

downloaded this ROM, copied onto the CWM backup directory, when i try to restore using CWM, it complains about MD5 mismatch.
is this the correct way to restore?
CWM not working when backing the image as it should like on the phones, I tried and doesn't restore the image.

first at all ,i must thank you for your answer,Harrybub, but my NC had tried the "8 times reboot" ,i followed you advices and do it again ,but the screen say:install failed.i just don't understand how can i delete the original boot flie which should be forbiden by NC , now ,i think the only way to fix my NC is entering the CWM and flash these file :boot.img ,system.img,factory.zip into NC's correspondence part via usb ADB ,in a other word ,rebulid all the flie of NC.do you have any sugestions ,please let me konw! thank
by the way ,do you ever see someone have the same problem?

btw, file factory is slow so be patient.

Found this last night and downloaded overnight.

I was able to convert the system.img_sparsechunks by doing:
Code:
simg2img system.img_sparsechunk* system.img.raw
dd if=system.img.raw ibs=2048 skip=64 of=system.img
truncate -s 3539992576 system.img
I don't have enough posts to create a development thread (I'm a quiet dev) but I'll post the stock image + a rooted image once I get it all working.

Just FYI - there is a utility that will convert the sparse chunks to a single image ext4 system.img:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2749797
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61132614&postcount=3
But there is likely a header and a footer in the file as explained in that thread. Those have to be removed using a HEX Editor before you can flash it using mofo.exe. I wrote out the instructions on how to do that in that thread above.
Then you can root it using @btdownloads7's method found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61132621&postcount=4
No need to reinvent the wheel if you have a device running TWRP you can just follow that method.
We have also learned that you have to delete the contents of both /data/dalvik-cache and /cache before you flash an image with Xposed for Lollipop baked into it. This has to do with the conversion from dalvik to ART.
If you are having trouble getting Xposed baked into your image, you can read about @mikeoswego's method here but check to make sure you are using the most recent Xposed files as there have been updates:

Where does one go about getting these Verizon images? Is it something Verizon issues to the public? If not, how does one trust this image as not being tampered with?

They cannot be tampered with, or they cannot be flashed through the signature check, which is what verifies the integrity of the file as well. Mofo, however, does not verify signature for obvious reasons. Where this particular file popped up is hard to say.

Working on uploading the images now.
I cannot thank you for this enough. I removed the erase USERDATA line, and I'm hoping that fixes my issue. cross your fingers.

I posted some more information in this thread, once I get everything settled root-wise and the images uploaded, I'll make a more detailed guide.
