[Q] Change build.prop? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok - my noobness is showing through here, but can someone lend me a hand in editing the build.prop? In evil's fusion thread, people are saying to edit it to achieve better signal/data, but I can't seem to find how to do it. I gather it needs to be done via a file explorer...I've located build.prop using File Expert, but am not sure how to proceed...
Managed to figure it out, never mind...let's hope I didn't do any damage!

Would love to know too
I have been looking all over the internet for a way to edit the build prop to boost internet speeds for the mytouch, i see it in other forums but i am not sure if it is the same. I would love to know what we are supposed to use for date speeds to boost them because my speeds are absolutely terrible.

The build.prop is located in system. You need to switch to r/w, long press the build.prop file and open in text editor.
The thing is that file manager doesn't have text editor. I use root explorer or you can copy the build.prop to a pc and edit with note pad and copy it back to system in your phone.

I too would like to know exactly what changing the build prop does supposedly and how to change it (what to modify) to maximize speed..

No problem. Changing the build.Prop will not affect the radio. Location, bandwidth, and baseband all affect dl. And ul speeds

So since the radio dictates all that, wat impact does changing the build prop really have? Obvious noob here...

sip stack

OK this was made for the SGS2 phone with android 2.3.3... Would it be safe it we install this on our gingerbread roms?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109962
Make a backup but yeah looks harmless.
harmless? haha not really, it modifies the framework-res.apk file, thats basically a lot of epic specific stuff. make sure to make a backup and odin handy....
The only value it changes in the framework is a single boolean value, and one that doesn't affect anything other than the native sip stack, so it shouldn't break anything - may not work, either, but it's worth trying

The instructions say to edit a single value in the GB framework, but it doesn't say you have to use the framework from another phone. If the bool isn't present in the Epic GB framework, it can be added in author breaking anything - at worst, it would be ignored and unused
It sounds like the only file being flashed to the phone is an apk, so the framework isn't going to be overwritten

Actually I just re read the post and the only thing getting flashed is the permissions. You need to edit the framework your selfs. so if your on a.gb leak give it a try. it actually shouldn't break anything

i unzipped it and there was an xml file no apk.. i dont know wat to do with it.. i know it goes in the framework.apk ..but that its.. do i need to just add it or replace something?
Did you read the instructions. That xml goes in system/permissions

If this works it would be awesome. It's annoying as hell that the EVO has it, but the Epic does not!

X10 had specific core files for the phone when I ported roms. Signal is one of them... vold is sdcard.. liblegacy is light.. libaudio for sound. But a handful of files where specific to x10.. you usually need. Ramdisk. . i still haven't had time to sbf and mess with files yet..
What file is in charge of boot up in the bin? It was chargemon for x10

Jargonv I thought about your question camera and kernel is the most specific part for camera fix.. in particular the ramdisk. Once you get debugging working in camera you would work on libvorbidesec to get camcorder working... how close is the defy camera to bravos?

Enable Navigation bar/Disable capacitive buttons and lights

This is a mod how to enable navigation bar(on screen
buttons) , its very simple and easy...
Warring: if you mess something dont blame me.
Add the following line at the end of buid.prop file
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
now on reboot we will have nav-bar like on nexus 4
To turn off capacitive buttons:
Go to system/use/key layout/ synaptics-rmi-touchscreen.kl
Long press it and click open with text editor
Delete everything there
Reboot.
To turn of capacitive button lights:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.deskangel.kblight
Or
This will mess your screen brightness and it will stay on 100% all the time. You have to use screen filter app from play store or some other app to control the brightness of your screen.
Go to system/lib/hw
There find lights.msm8960.so
Rename it to (whatever you want)
Reboot.

To turn off the lights you can just edit framework-res.apk.
Don't copy other peoples posts

This is only applicable to AOSP/CM ROMs this won't work on sense based ROMs.

Here you go, if your rooted, extract this and put it in etc/init.d to turn off your lights on boot.
Or, just execute it with root explorer.

I only managed to get a nav bar by using PA, fiddling with build.prop never gave me a nav bar GPE or anything else.

I think I read on the s4 forums that they also can't get this going with stock based roms (touchwizz and gpe), something about the lines of code for this to happen being removed or not there.
From personal experience, I could only get the navbar on pa. Another person on a thread enabled it on a cm based ROM.
So in the end, yes, it seems the only way to get the nab bar working is a cm based ROM. Its a pity cause that means we'll be giving up:
* good speakers - missing beats audio
* ir blaster and fantastic TV app.
* blink feed
* slightly better camera optimizations
Anyone able to recommend a cm based ROM ? Or at least alternative apps for the problems above?

Nope....doesn't work on Sense-based or GPE. Tried it like........I lost count. I kinda savvy it too. However, even on a Touchwiz I can't produce it. So probaly it only works on CM or CM based roms.

(REQ) live wallpaper on lockscreen

Is it possible to modify the lock screen settings to allow a live wallpaper option? I know this can be done standard on aosp/cm roms. Looking for a mod on the LG side of things.
I know there was alot of lag on my wife's g pro phone with live wallpapers in general. I wonder LG set it that way so there would be no/less lag.

On the DNA, you had the option of setting up the lockscreen with a Live Wallpaper. It wasn't a special mod or anything, it just came that way. Probably part of the Sense overlay. In any case, it was a standard available option.

I understand. LG also doesn't support root, custom recovery, and changing icons in the status bar. These options aren't impossible so why would a live wallpaper be impossible?

First you set LWP on your homescreen.

Reboot your device.
