three finger salute to reboot... - Fascinate General

Not sure how many know this (I am certain there are a bunch!) about our phones, but I thought I would pass along the info...
I see a lot of folks talking about the phone locking up or crashes and such and needing to do a battery pull to restart/un-freeze.
There is another method - particularly useful if you use a case, but useful for everyone IMO...
Holding all three buttons (power/screen toggle, volume up, volume down) for a few seconds will also do a soft reboot - soft in the sense that you do not need to pull the battery, but not soft in that it is not a graceful shutdown.
Just thought I'd pass that along.
Carry on.

You only need to hold down the volume up and sleep keys to do the reboot.

even better

There is a app called quick boot that gives you the option. I have short cut on home screen comes in handy.

Running an app will not help in a situation where the phone is locked, which is what the OP is attempting to address.

Edit: yes I've used this numerous times it will save the hassle

Just the screen, or does it power off completely?
Is it shutting off while you're touching the screen? If its turning off when you're not touching the screen you might accidentally be hitting the sleep/wake button. Or it could be your screen timeout. It may be set to a quicker time. Go to settings>display>screen timeout and check wha the time is.

It dose't shutdown completely but does Drop calls and Interrupts Typing text messages all menu buttons stay lit

I had that issue for a bit, I ended up restoring from a previous backup. Worked okay after that. My screen was shutting down/turn off. This also happened for a bit when I wasn't able to do a full for a day.
You most likely have a buggy app that is crashing the UI. I had this until I got rid of some crappy apps that wanted to run in the background that was for mapping 4G coverage.

App to configure backlight/lock screen time out

Are there anything available where I can change how long the back light/lock screen on different power source. When I'm in my car and plug my phone in I want it to stay on longer before locking the screen.

You can set the screen to never shut off while plugged in
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
how do I do that?
Menu> settings>applications> devolpment
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
actually I know that feature exist. What I want is not for it to stay on for good, I only want it on for a maybe like 3 minutes while plugged in. I tried that but it got annoying waking up in the night to turn off the back light.
Well then idk. What I can suggest is a paid app called extended controls. it applied you to build a custom power control widget. You can have an always on button

extended control works great. thanks!

Lockscreen unlock lag

Am I the only one who has been having issues with the lock screen locking up on unlock? had this issue before I rooted am still having this issue.
Find i have to relock (power button) a few times before it starts to work!
Haven't had this problem. It has been smooth since stock. I find it weird that you had the issue before rooting.
Do you have any custom kernels? Any homescreen widgets? Does it happen consistently?
Nope, none, no stock widgets or anything like that, about as stock as you can get.
Happens once every 10 unlocks i would say, might have to send it back!
I can confirm this issue
Face unlock is on with pattern unlock as backup
Whenever face unlock fails I try to enter pattern....pattern does not work
Phone doesn't even show pattern(like its not accepting touch input and I do have it set to "show pattern" )
Slide up to Google Now when unlock pattern screen appear and you get new unlock pattern screen.....entering pattern here works
I suspect it is related to face unlock....when face unlock fails it never locks for touch input
This error occurs 70% of the time not always

I have removed root etc done a fresh wipe and still have the unlock lag issue l, i don't use face unlock. going to try and get a swap from o2 today.
Used to have this problem when using autobrightness
Mine has hung a few times on the lockscreen and each and every time it has, Auto brightness has took a dump.
I don't recall it doing it more than one per reboot though, I'll have to monitor that.

Yes I have this exact issue and posted on it about a week ago in the Q&A forum.
I push the power button and I cannot drag the slide unlock. If I wait 10 seconds it sometimes unfreezes and lets me. I have to cycle the power button until it finally lets me slide unlock.
I've completely wiped the device and that has had no benefit.
What apps do you have installed? I've wondered if it's an app.
I use Words with Friends, IMDB, Reddit is Fun, Tapatalk, and Google News & Weather widget. I'm going to try disabling auto brightness to see if that fixes as suggested above.

Same here. In my case, i am using PIN and sometimes it lags out while trying to enter my pin and i have to press power button to lock it and try again.

I have the same problem, and I think i have found a way to replicate the issue.
1. Turn off the screen.
2. Wait around 5 seconds.
3. Put three fingers on the screen at the same time.
4. And without moving the fingers turn on the screen.
At this time the touchscreen doesn't respond or it has some kind of lag and you have to reunlock the screen to make it work again.
Can anyone test this?
Sorry for my english.

This way the lock screen is unresponsive but I feel that it is not the same issue.
The lag I usually experience with the bug is more like the phone doesn't wake up properly and can't handle the input in (real) time

Is there a way to turn the ouya all the way off with the controller?

Or is the only way to press and hold the button on top of the console.

If you download quickboot from the play store then it gives you the option of making a power off widget. I use that since sometimes I'm too lazy to get up and just want to roll over . Also in the stock launcher there's a power off button but it doesn't shut the ouya all the way off. And then there is editing the layout of the controller itself in I believe system/usr/keylayout/something.kl replace something with the controller or keyboard you wanna change. By the way a .kl file can be opened and edited in any text editing program.

good info gotta try that
I noticed today that when you press the power button on top, the console goes into standby. You need to press and hold for a second then it asks if you want to power down. This is a full power down
HDMI shuts down and even it the screen still has power, that eventually shuts down to.
Let me know it that helps.

The only full power down i found is holding the button on top of the console. The off option the controller gives u seem to only shut off the video out put which can be woken up very easily.

So quickboot is very good. Only thing is , it instantly kills everything. Like physically pulling the plug. Should I be concerned it's not properly 'putting everything away' before shut down? Thoughts?

This doesn't technically turn the OUYA off, it puts it to sleep in a low power mode. While it should be okay, even over long periods of time, it may not be the ideal way to turn off the system all the time.

I had the same issue too, but it can be 'fixed' by changing an option in the menus. If you go into the Manage->System->Advanced menus, then go into Developer options and turn it on via the on/off toggle switch in the top right hand corner, then go down to the 'Stay awake' option and uncheck it. It should shutdown completely now.
But its still to easy to wake up only sure way I found is to hold the button on top of the ouya.

My understanding is that this disables the hdmi wake-up issue, but still allows the controller to wake it up. I was using Android Tuner to shut down the OUYA, but never actually checked to see if it was in some type of sleep mode. I'm fairly certain it was completely off. I haven't fixed su since the last OTA, because I have been content with my setup. Next OTA I'll probably do a full data wipe and try some of the fun stuff that has been created recently.

After doing that configuration change, I found it doesn't wake up unless I activate the controller and turn it on. Before, it would start up again on it's own and just sit at the prompt even after I told it to shutdown.

Yes, that make sense, that's the behaviour I see. I'm guessing it wakes up the Ouya even though I shut it down because I leave my monitor/tv on and it goes into sleep mode automatically. If I turned off my monitor/tv, it probably wouldn't do that anymore.
I have a HDMI splitter with a blue light to show what channel is being used even with this new change the light show active it only goes of when the ouya is powered down from the top button.

Okay, this is plane and simple all, there are TWO WAYS to turn off the OUYA COMPLETELY! This DISABLES the ability to turn on the console by the controller:
FIRST is the built in way of holding down the button till the dialog comes up then clicking it off.
SECOND is to sideload an app that does that with a button press. Apparently some of these DO NOT work and I'm not sure which ones do, BUT if you can turn it on with the controller it is NOT all the way off.
ALL other ways will NOT completely turn it off!
IF you can turn it on by the controller it is ONLY ON STANDBY/SLEEP

I'm not sure what all the shouting is about. I think the last few posts were clear about whether or not OUYA was asleep or off. I may setup su tonight if I time. I have had an unlucky streak of OTAs releasing within a few days of every time I setup su. Only a big deal because of the plug being a pain to access in the cabinet. Wireless adb has caused a few people headaches I'd rather avoid. If I do, I'll verify what the shutdown command does in some root apps.

Lock screen not turning off unless I do it manually !!!!1

hello
i have note 4 n910c with 6.0.1
My screen doesn't automatically time out if I press the home button or the power button to turn on my screen. In order for the screen to turn off, I have to manually press the power button. Otherwise, the screen just stays on and drains my battery !!!!!
I should also note that if I receive notifications, my screen lights up and I have to either dismiss the notification or manually turn off the screen.
i downgraded to 5.1.1 it worked for few days then the same issue again
i formatted my device and flashed most recent stock rom 6.0.1 again few days and the same problem screen not turn off automatically
any solutions?
by the way when i use smart manger and end all RAM applications screen turn off work good immediately then after few minutes not turn off again
You can try widgetsoid app, that haves a big list of toggle widgets, and no lock screen is one of their widgets.
