How do I download the HTC Sync app so my phone works on HTC Sense? I use it for Phone Finding, and that.
htcsense.com should work (if HTC has the service working) just by adding a HTC Sense account in settings.
except i'm on cm7
Far as I know, the HTCSense integration will only work if you actually run HTC Sense.

Won't work on Cyanogen roms, only sense roms, sorry.
Doesn't seem to work anyway, even using stock Sense ROM. (Missus lost her phone this week. Not happy.)

Yeah, HTC has had some problems with the service...

I'm on Leedroid and I use Lookout. Best app out there in my opinion for this sort of thing. Picked up the location of my phone within a few metres or so within about 30 seconds.
I tried WaveSecure which works via a text messaging service instead of the wifi/data connection but nothing seemed to work so I uninstalled it. Then 20 minutes after I uninstalled it I started getting silly texts with all sorts of symbols in them. I had to go onto the Wavesecure site and disable my account to stop them.
I mean, what good is this sort of app when the text to start the tracking or whatever doesnt get there for 45 minutes? The thief could be abroad by then.
Ive had various success with the HTC Sence phone finder in the past, but latley it has been working ok for me.
Ive also tried the Lookout one, that seems to be a bit more reliable than HTC's implimentation.
Also, being logged in to HTC really drains the battery imo.
Yeah, it does, but I had mine set to sync manually which helped beat battery drain.
There's already a thread about this

First of all, I apologise if this is meant to go in general, so mods can move it, and also if this has been asked before.
Anyway, I can't install Google Sky Maps, comes up with 'Unknown Error -18' and I can install Sense note widget either.
The thing that confuses me more is that I can install any app from CM6/Vanilla FroYo rom (Contacts, Car Home, Home Tips (br0 tips as it is on CM6) and even the CyanogenMod settings. Granted, I can only get to the CM settings via bettercut, and I don't think that most/any work, but still, its strange I can install it at all, right?
Just wondering if anyone has the reason for the strange behaviour.
Cheers

Well i know for a fact that the HTC Widgets like notes will not install on even a 2.1 eclair rom so that's why they still don't install on 2.2.
So its within the rom that allows the widget? I believe its included in LeeDroid.

Hey,
I've been lookin for an App that can locate my phone via GPS if it gets stolen, and found the app, Where's My Droid, but it seems like it have a limitation, coz u have to enable GPS before getting the phone stolen, or lost, nd lets be honest, it's a battery killer, and you wouldn't enable it everytime you are out So have any of you seen a program like this, or would have the functions like:
Silent enable GPS via "Special SMS"
Silently reporting to your spare phone with location
Automatic detection if the SIM has been changed and send back the new number
Runs on startup silent and is active at all times
Password protected Menu
At my old HTC Touch Diamond WM 6.1 i had a software called W.I.M.P ( Where's My Phone) wich had these functions, wich made it easier to track a phone if it got stolen.
Hope someone out there have a solution

Just looking at it now, and wow!! As far as i can see, this is exactly what Im looking for are you using the app your self?

I am using wavesecure as I got a deal on the subscription for just £10 for the year.
It is a very good piece of software and works very well.
It uses gps to track the phone but will only activate it if it needs to send the location of the phone so not on all the time.
Would recommend it.

I use wavesecure its great!
I got a subscription via the MoDaCo Plus scheme.

Another vote for Wavesecure.
Their service is impeccable - I have logged ticket requests asking general questions about Wavesecure and their responses have been very through and within 12hrs.
The application is great, make sure you follow the guide on installing the application as a system application, which will make it hard reset proof in case some clown steals your phone and tried to wipe it.
EDIT: I cant post links outside of this forum so I cant hotlink you to their site and guide.
GPS only drains battery when used (i.e. when you open an app that needs GPS like Maps etc.) and when u see the icon in the TopBar. Theres no need to turn it off. I always have it enabled and there is no noticable battery drain...

The problem with wheresmyDroid is that you can't remote enable it, so It's pretty easy for the thief to turn gps off

A free alternative would be "Lookout mobile security"
Seach on the market.

You can't just uninstall it without a password, but it can be removed if the thief does a hard reset. If he does that before changing the sim card, this program is useless. If he doesn't hard reset, you can locate your phone and you will get an email when he changes the sim card.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I would definitely recommend WaveSecure.
If someone changes the sim card, it sends a text message to any number(s) you have set up for it. The text message contains the phone number of the newly inserted sim card.
I've been using it since the start, and I wouldn't be without it.
OK, I know it's not free, but it's very cheap compared to replacing your Desire!
Take a look at Prey in the market or at preyproject.com
Completely free, and starts tracking your phone once activated and sending you regular reports with location, ip and traceroutes. If the sim is replaced it can send an SMS to another phone number. They also have apps for PC and Macs. Nice to have it all under one account

Seems to do the trick for me! (so far anyways!)
had the same 100% cpu after OTA problem, tried almost everything im aware of (ending some tasks, reboots, unistalling apps) but nothing helped me,ended up with factory reseting twice and i got it solved for now.
been monitoring using system pannel and now its more stable.
No such issue for me with the update once everything completed syncing.

yeah for me it's com.android.providers.setings which is killing my battery.

I just went into stock application manager, force stopped everything i wasnt interested in (sense, friendstream, facebook, stocks, etc). My cpu useage dropped from 100% to more typical 3 to 20% and has been fine since.
As i stopped so many applications i dont know which was the culprit.

Me too! just went to settings - accounts and sync - htc sense - remove account.
CPU was back down to under 20%. Added htc sense again and still got nice low CPU usage.... sense still doesnt work to make the phone ring or find its location but happy that the phone works properly again.
Glad I got that sorted, thanks for the tip!!
It worked for me too. Thanks a lot gays.

I can confirm the 100% cpu problem has not returned for me. I suspect that the update did not take into account the current sync status variables. If your phone was in a certain sync state when the ota applied it got stuck in a loop. Force stopping clears all temporary variables so returns the phone to the environment in which htc tested the update. So...the problem should not teturn if u force stop the right app. Similarly a hard reset should do the trick.

Worked for me too
So I've spent the past week flashing different roms trying to figure out the issue and the only thing I can figure is sense based roms cause my text order to be out of order. The incoming texts show up before the sent text in the thread. I've tried stock messaging app as well as alternate sms apps and still the same thing. My wife is on stock non root and has the same issue.
Put CM7 on my phone yesterday and ran it all day and all my texts showed right..I first thought it was maybe a carrier issue in my area but why would CM7 work right when sense doesn't....
I'm at a loss on a fix and my wife wants a fix too lol...anyone have any ideas?
Fixed my issue...finally hit me on what I could try and it actually worked...so stinking happy!

I had the same issue with an AOSP rom. weird. I believe it might be one of the 3rd party widgets (not messaging apps) such as the sense widget or the launcher pro sms widget. first I thought it was my theme, reflashed still no go. so I wiped and reflashed then found out that if I clicked on a friends name from the launcher pro sms widget and sent a message it would be out of order for instance when he texts and I reply my reply would go BEFORE his message...
If not the widgets my second theory could be the kernels...
quick fix. just restart your messaging app and delete all the threads.
I tried everything and the only thing that worked for me was putting the vanilla android mms.apk on instead of sense mms.apk
Although the vanilla messaging app likes to force close on composing mms
I have an hd2. And I'm running froyo 2.2 I think. I have had it for about a year. And everything works great. Except for a couple of bugs. Home screens don't rotate, flash doesn't work for camera, and I can't install angry birds. Damn it. With that said has there been a new Android build worthy of me flashing it to my hd2 and replacing my froyo? Also is there a way to flash it so I don't turn on phone and it goes to energy Rom. Please help.

Im thinking that the 2.3.4 ROM you are now running is the nexus one build to HD2. you wouldn't be able to run htc sync since it would recognize the phone as a nexus one. the windows mobile sync center also wont work.
Connect Usb and transfer files!

I tested many roms but ONLY PURE Gingerbread rom is listed on my signature. Also dont had any problems with MMS or SMS.
Yes syncing wont work, but some stuff you can make with DroidExplorer
Right now maked some search for soft and found three sync soft. I dont tested these yet. You use it with your own risk. Backup with titaniumbackup first.

I've used both DroidExplorer and MyPhoneExplorer. They both seem a little twitchy. I mainly rely on syncing with my Google account. I use Google Calendar Sync on my PC to sync my Google calendar and Outlook.
