Hi to all...
I updated to I9000XXJVO recently, and I see that /system space is full. Is this a problem? Can I resolve it?
I want to convert /system to ext4, but I can't because there is not enough space.
Any idea?
Thanks in advice
Get a file explorer and mount /system read and write and then delete .apk and .odex that are not necessary for u.
I had the same problem. Cause i do not use TW i deleted all TW widgets like DualClock, Buddies and so on. I deleted also MiniDiary cause i don't need this thing.
Just look which .apk u know from the drawer or from widgets and then delete them.
I don't know which apps can uninstall and which not. Is better uninstalling the system apps from Titanium Backup or deleting the apks and odex from /system/apps folder?
Any tutorial or list of the safe apps and others?
Greets!
Not tested with Titanium Backup but it would be possible too. I used Super Manager for deleting the files.
Its the question Do u use touchwiz widgets or not? Another solution for u may be this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790
Just flash the deodexed JVO then u will have 25Mb free on /system. But u have to flash again
If u dont wanna flash again just say me if u use touchwiz widgets or not - if u use another launcher then u can delete all tw widgets. I will make u a list but first of all i need to know how what is ur decision.

I don't know which are the touchwiz widget :S
And what is the meaning of "deodexed"? So many different space in the filesystem, not?
Greets!
Now u got a odexed version it means that nearly every item is having an .odex
In an deodexed version there is only the .apk so u have more free space in /system
I'm gonna make u a list of things u can delete if u want it and not use the deodexed rom. Using the deodexed one would be the easiest way. For u and me. I must not make a list for u and u must not delete them and think if u need them.
Thanks, if you make a list, it could be helper to some people
I think I flash a deodexed rom, from your link, and I'll try it
Thanks drigg0r for your time and you efford
No Problem. A list would be work for me. And i think most ppl will go on an deodexed rom cause themes only run on these ;D
maybe the pit file repartitions the internal memory badly and leaves little for system

sorry for the double post
Curious..........when we install .apks do they alreadly know where to install its self. some apks i can completely move to the /system/app/ and others go straight to /data/app where most apks go and cannot be moved without FCing
IS there a way to force all data that i want to system/app/
just wanted to know if this is possible...would be sweet
TIA
As far as I know if you install them manually you can install them wherever you want. System or data.
While rom building I've put non-standard apps into the system/app folder with no problem.
If you put them in the system/app folder you might need to make sure the permissions are set right.

I'm probably out of my league here, but I would guess that you should be able to add in the new keyboard (to the SYSTEM folder), select the new keyboard as your default keyboard (using an SMS app or something), then once it's selected you're good to go. You may be able to even delete the old one at that point without any errors?
However, you mentioned cooking and baking so this is what's over my head. Sorry if this doesn't help you.
Also, like that other dude said... "other" apps like the ones installed from the Market usually go in DATA. I noticed that when some ROMs have Maps installed in SYSTEM and you go to update it, it will install the newer version in DATA. I remember seeing in the logcat during boot that the phone detects both versions and just ignores the older version in the SYSTEM folder.

I have used that exact keyboard on ROMs in the past. I did a straight install from the SD card using a file explorer, Astro to be exact.
Maybe I'm missing what you are trying to accomplish, but that's how I installed it. I'm not up on the cooking and baking, but maybe it's different if you are trying to add it to the ROM prior to flashing?
To remove the standard HTC_IME.apk, I would install the new one first then go into adb shell and remove it that route.
The only way I know how to change permissions is by using the Root Explorer app. If you have that you mount r/w and navigate to the apk you wanna change. Then you long press it and go to permissions. It looks like all the ones in /system/app are "User: Read, Write; Group: Read; Others: Read". Hope this helped!

Lately I've been getting alerts that my phine is low on space. I delete any unused apps but pretty soon ill have to delete ones I use. Is there a way to be able to download as many apps as I want or delete any of the stick apps ill never use like facebbok, twitter etc.....or does anyone know if any of his other roms allow for more space?

Search for 'move to SD'.
Search the Market for App 2 SD
App to sd opened up about 25% more memory. Thanks guys
You can also try Darktremor a2sd script. It should allow you to move not only apps that can be moved to SD card but every apps along with the dolvik cache and user data files.
I haven't tried it on my HD2 yet and I know its still in beta, so I can't guarantee you whether it will work or not. But at least it worth a try. If u wanna try it do a nandroid backup first, just in case it mess something...

You can delete unused stock apps by purchasing an app called 'Root Explorer' from the market (or install any root-enabled file explorer really, i just like root explorer the best lol) and delete the .apk file of whatever app you don't want from /system/app directory of your phone. If your rom loads the system to ram memory, you also will have to delete the .apk from /system/ram/app directory or it will re-appear

I got root explore and did the following. clicked on root explorer then went into sysytem then app and deleted the facebook and twitter apk. They still appear in my apps though. Is there something elseim supposed to do?
Still no instructions on how to delete stock apps via root explorer? I found this on the thread to my rom but dont know how to install it. I got it on my desktop but now what? Can anyone help?
If you wish to gain an additional 27MB for apps in /data/ you can install the my new partition layout MAX[Build.v1.1.7]. This is NOT required and you can use any of my other partition layouts with build v1.1.7. However if MAX[v1.1.7] partition layout is used with older builds your Phone will not boot. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
easy way to remove apk's from rom
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the way i remove apk's from a rom is put rom on sd card make sure you have astro open astro then open zip and select multi and tap the files u dont need or want hit delete it will take a few minutes when done not only does the rom size get smaller u will have more memory. I know alot of people us titanium but all it does is remove temp, if u have to reload because of problem u have to do it again, this way the files are out perm. Also if u have any apk's you want to add all u have to do is copy and move to system apps and it will load on rom. if any questions or confusion u can pm me.
Titanium Backup is much easier than this lol. What do you mean temp, once I remove something its gone for good but then again I have paid market version.

hey im really new into this i just want to know somthing about the launchers and deh gallery....
i just rooted my dhd and flashed icecoldsandwitch on it...
didnt found any bugs jet working very well...
but i want to get rid of the 3 launchers and the standard gallery... is there a way i can repleace the gallery with quickpic and the launchers with launcherpro??? so i can get rid of em ...
would be nice if smb could help me...
There are several apps out there that allow u to uninstall system apps. I use Link2SD myself. With it u can uninstall any syestem app or if don't want to uninstall it u can just freeze it. It also has an option to convert 3rd party apps to system apps so u could convert QuickPik to system/app if u wanted. And u could use it to get rid of or freeze all those launchers too. I believe Titanium Backup can do all of that too. Or an app call Root Uninstaller. Just look on the Play Store & u'll see several but i recommend Link2SD personally. Good luck
Open the ROM zip file in 7-zip or WinRAR, Delete the Apex, Nova, and Trebuchet Launcher apks from /system/app and put in the launcher you want. Preferably keep Trebuchet (Launcher2.apk) along with the launcher you want. So in case it doesn't work, there's a launcher for your phone to use to rather than pull out the battery and re-flash ROM. Same with gallery. Delete Gallery2.apk and put QuickPic apk in /system/app. Finally flash ROM. No need to wipe anything, the IceColdSandwich updater script formats /system, /cache and dalvik-cache.

U cn uninstal the launcher . .
Its given in the ics thread. .
Navigating through my root tree, I´ve stumbled at so many bloatware files I just want to delete to save some storage space (16GB version here) but I´m a little afraid of. They are on the /System/App folder and for every .apk there´s a .odex file, so I would like to delete them both. Is it safe? Is there any verification process at boot of these files? Some of them look like really system apps that I´ll never touch, but others are for other phone carries in my country, social networks I´ve never heard before etc.
There´s another folder called /System/Apps/Bootup that I would love to delete files from, there´s a lot of LG crapware in there that I think are loaded at boot but I have the same fear of bootloops...
Any solution to my urge to free some memory?
Hi,
Delete some apps in /system/app not gonna free up your "sd card" storage... You always will have the same free amunt of memory available on your 16 Gb...
It's normal to have an .odex file under eachs system apps, your rom is odexed (search on Google if you don't know what is it).
You can delete some system apps but be careful at what apps you delete, make a backup first.
Some system apps are alright to delete along with the .odex ones too. There's a list in the general section I believe that lists off apps that can be deleted with no issue.
Problem is though unless you plan to store stuff in your system partition, deleting apps doesn't really increase your usable storage.

Re,
Yes there is a (brief) list here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2456974&highlight=list or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2521066.
Like SupaSwag said when you delete an app, delete the .odex file too. If you don't know what you are doing I recommend you to leave the system apps as there are to avoid any kind of issues. At best you'll gain a little free RAM and maybe a little battery life without some apps runing/connecting to the network in background but in any case you will not gain more usable storage. At worst some function will not work at all, Force Closes, bootloop, etc...
In any case backup first (backup in recovery if something goes wrong and you encounter a bootloop) or at least a backup with an app like Titanium Backup (and make an uptade.zip in Titanium).
And what do you think of the apps in the bootup folder?
And then, how van I free some space for my mp3s? Coming from a S3 with a 64gb microSD card.

Re,
It's some LG apps, the name of the apps say all: TaskManager, FileManager, etc... Nothing very important it's LG stuff but it depends of you... I deleted all the apps in the /system/apps/bootup because I don't need them with my use, but you?
I think the best is to freeze those apps with Titanium Backup, use your phone as "normal" for a few days and if you don't have any issues or if you realize that you don't need them, then delete them...
Another solution is to rename the apps you don't want with the .bak extension, in case you need an app you can rename it by removing the .bak extension, reboot and the app is here
