my friends evo is rooted but he deleted standard email and messaging. Is there any way of getting them back?
anyone have ideas?
Find out what ROM he is running and download a copy of the ROM to a computer. Unzip the file and under /system/app you should find the apk's he uninstalled.
all he did was root, he must still be on stock. once i find the apk's do they need to be flashed or just putting them in the folder on the phone will work?
thanks

I accidentally deleted the AccountAndSyncSettings.apk file. Does anyone have a backup of the file? Please help. Thanks in advance.
Snag it from a stock .zip rom in the development section. Just extract and find it (Same data structure as your filesystem).
i am also having the same issue. I have already found the stock rom from and moved the apk file with root explorer, but it won't allow me to install. Any input on how you solve this would be great.
Sorry for reviving the thread. Could someone post the AccountAndSyncSettings.apk and odex for the stock rom. I tried downloading the stock rom file but couldn't find the files that I need. Thanks so much!
Use the search feature, I posted this link for a pretty long period now.

This includes AccountAndSync.apk/odex so remove that if you don't want it.
Thanks so much, I put the files back and it's fixed now. You're a life saver!
Menu
Did you get Accounts and Sync option back on your menu list under Settings? I have accountandsyncsettings.apk under the System/app folder but there is still no menu option.

Hi, could you explain how exactly you managed to re-install the .apk, because I already replace it, rebooted and tried installing it manually, but it wont install or show up in the list of applications under settings, and I'm trying to update OTA to gingerbread and it keeps saying that "AccountandSyncSettings.apk was not found". I would really appreciate your help.
Can anyone make a backup of the stock system/apps folder with all the "bloatware" apk files. I made the mistake of deleting them instead of renaming, I need to get the original apk's on my phone so I can update! I've been looking/asking all over with no luck!
Thanks!
Im also looking for this. I backed up my apps, had a noob moment and accidentally deleted some of the backups while trying to get rid of the original.
Google "Fascinate System Dump"
http://forum.androidcentral.com/fascinate-roms-hacks/32839-fascinate-system-dump.html
Thanks! The systemdump had exactly what I was looking for.
Sorry I'm extremely new at this, what do I do with this file? I've deleted the clock application on accident while deleting the other clock widgets and want it back, but I'm not sure how to install the files once I've downloaded it onto my computer. Also considering to unroot to get the update. Please help.
I flashed nonsensikal 8.2 to my Eris and attempted to load my apps back. I have one called vRecorder, which contrary to popular opinion, worked great for recording phone calls. However, when I attempted to reload it I found it is unavailable and no longer supported. After trying several other call recorders, all failures, I'm left with trying to install my old one. The problem is, it isn't a .apk file, it's a .zip file. I originally downloaded this off the market, but since then the developer has packed up his bags and I can't get in touch with them. The .zip file located in the /data/app folder contains the following files:
AndroidManifest.xml
res (folder which contains four more folders all of which contain image and xml files)
resources.arsc
Since I cannot back this up using Astro and it's a zip format, is there any way to either convert it to .apk or flash it like a rom? I tried simply renaming it to apk and it acted like it installed, but gave me the message saying 'application not installed' when it completed. Any help would be appreciated.

Try resigning it. You can find out how to do that in the Eris roll up thread
rename it back to zip... pull it to your computer... then adb install -r appname.zip
Actually just rename it to a .apk

I already tried renaming it and installing it that way but after I ran it, it went through the install process and ended with the message "Application not installed." I will try what vinylfreak89 suggested by installing SDK on my pc and trying the adb install. I'm also trying to find how to resign in the rollup thread. I'll let you know how it goes.
Are you sure the program didn't download to the phone's DATA/APP folder as a ZIP as well as an APK in DATA/APP-PRIVATE?
I am having the same problem re-installing with a 'protected' Market program.
My app-private folder is empty (using Root Explorer). However, I found a call recorder that seems to be working for me. It's called rVoix and can be found in thread 806451 in this forum.
My Eris has been rooted and I'm using nonsensikal 8.2 black rom (I highly recommend this rom, it's awesome).
Did you nandroid before you flashed the new rom? If so, restore the old rom, use titanium to back up the app, nandroid back to the current rom, and restore the app.
Sent from my ERIS using XDA App
I'm running FrankinTwiz-Final and i want to replace the stock mms apk.
well i deleted it with root explorer and put the other one in its place
but now the mms link doesnt work and i cant find the app in the app tray..
what did i do wrong?
Try pushing the MMS file again from the original TW ROM, just unzip the zip file and get it then push it.
As shocking as it may seem I want some blur on my phone! Im currently running gummy 2.5 but after using blur for a couple of months i miss the messaging, email, alarm, camera, sticky note widget and most importantly the icons! is there anyway for me to get any of this back? I tried installing the apks but to no avail. I think I could do with just the icons. Any advice? Thanks!
They won't install like normal apks to the best of my knowledge. You seem to have all of the APKs though from blur so try one of these methods, not 100% sure it will work but it likely should. (Edit: I'm not entirely sure what you are talking about with the icons, but this should help you get the APKs you want back)
REMEMBER TO BACKUP EVERYTHING BEFORE DOING EITHER OF THESE!
1) Download the empty InstallAPKs.zip from this post.
2) Open the archive in 7z or winrar
3) Navigate to system/app and put all the APKs you wan't to install into the zip (just drag them into the archive and let it add/update them. I'd have stuck them in the zip for you but I don't have any blur apks with me)
4) Reboot recovery and install the zip
or
1) You could manually go into the system folder and replace the apks using root explorer. Remember to set permissions to 644 for each file you replace if doing this.
