As I am new to Android I maybe missing something.
Does the OS notify you have how many voice mails you have. EG: If your blackberry was turned off for a while and some left you 4 messages. You will see the total number of voice mails on your phone.
Does android do that? Or does it need an app for that function.
an icon at the notfication bar will appear if you have new voicemail, but to actually see the number of voicemails, you have to pull down the notification bar.

OK..Well I must be doing something wrong or my phone is not setup right.
I just left two messages for myself..the phone gave off the two alerts and the icon showed up but no number indicating 2 messages...
I take you also have a nexus one?

there will only be one icon for each type of notification you have. to see how many messages you have you must slide down the notification bar (the white bar), it will show you a list of the type of notifications you have and how many you have.
yes I do have a nexus one.

Hi Melterx..I understand the notification bar....it shows the number of applications etc that you have downloaded....but I do not get two voice mail notifications from the two messages I left for my self...
Any ideas on what I may be missing?
I think you're simply missing familiarity with Android. Your phone is fine. Like Melter said... slide down then notification bar and you'll see details on each notification you have.
Can I just say I can heartily recommend HulloMail as an alternative voicemail system. It's free and in the market place. It will sync with you google contacts, sms and/or email you and essentially behave like visual voicemail.
Not affiliated, just a happy user.

I'm using a pink/purple wallpaper and I want to change the notification number on the Messages and Mail apps from green to pink. The number that shows up on the icon to tell you how many unread messages/emails you have. Is there an easy way to do this without changing the entire theme?
I would like to have an email icon showing unread email (pop3) in my arc with the native Sony apps. It's possible?
gm,
you mean in the left upper corner of the screen?? in the account settings you can set a ringtone for a new mail, and also visual mail notification. i get an '@' in the statusbar upper left when i got new mail.

I think I know what you mean. I used to have an HTC Touch HD and the icons for SMS and Email would show how many unread texts/emails you had. All you get in android is an icon in the notification area. It's taken me a while to get used to which icon is which as I have hotmail, gmail and sms.
Is there any way (or an app) to have the shortcuts show you how many unread items there are instead??

Just found a couple of apps called Gmail unread count and SMS unread count. These are widgets which kinda works. Can't figure out how you go and change the options once you've added them though. Maybe I have to remove the widget and add it again.
Hi guyz
I'm using rooted note 3 with stock email client. I jus wondering is there any tweak/application that will list down number of unread emails n my top notification panel (may be near battery icon)
Thanks
Sam
Hey, so I just upgraded from the S5.
Usually when a new gmail gets in (in an active-unlocked screen), Gmail display's the sender's name on the top notification bar (notification bar ticker) by the clock. However, now when I get a new email, it only shows a Gmail's new mail icon without previewing the sender's/author...
Same thing with text messaging too... It just shows an icon without previewing the message on the top bar...
I tried playing around with the notifications but couldn't get it to work...
Any ideas?
