I tried reset GPS state using GPS status but its no help. It even says using 8/8 satellites but I have no fix in maps nor do i get lat/long in GPS test. What gives?
I have CM7.
Edit: Solved
1. Download GPS Status
2. Goto Menu Tools > Reset GPS State
3. Reboot
Edit: Unnsolved :/
Happened again but this time the above trick didn't work. Any help please? The bloody thing is seeing and using all satellites but there is no lock at all.
Not solved so. Bump. Any one have any ideas? The thing is normally if i can see satellites and it says using 8/8 satellites i expect a fix. It is using the satellites as well as seeing them. But still no cigar. :/ Seems like a bug to me.

I had GPS working well and could see the satellites on the concentric circles using both TomTom and HTC GPS Tool and then get a GPS fix. After a month all the satellites disappeared from the circles when using both pieces of software. I tried a soft reset which did nothing, then tried a hard reset and after reinstalling tomtom and htc gps tool I could see all the satellites on the circles and get a fix without a problem. It has now stopped working again.
I have ROM version 1.14.405.3. With both pieces of software I am using COM4 and baudrate 4800.
Anyone no how to fix this or has had the same problem?
Would really appreciate some help.
I have noticed that when its not working and I run HTC GPS tool and open the COM4 port the text displayed in the box is completely different to the text displayed when it is working.
I had also this problem one time. GPS came back the day after. I have no explication nor clue for the reasons why the GPS went off and came back.. I soft resetted a few time, but with no immediate results. No hard reset.
Fortunately, this does not happens too often (one time only for me), but I'm pretty sure this problem will come back when I'll badly need my GPS..
I have another problem which comes more frequently (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448148), but I have a workaround.
I hope HTC is aware of these problems ans will provide a fix very soon.
Unfortunately for me when this happens it is permanent and the only time it started to work again is after a hard reset. When it was working I could get a fix without a problem. I have also disabled A-GPS. It is very annoying.
What I see In TomTom with the GPS status is '' poor GPS reception" so the GPS is recognised. Please if anyone can help, its driving me mad.
I can only use programs allowing to set the gps manually to COM 4 and 57600 Baud. I cannot do this manually in the Windows settings, because they are not saved.
Right, I tried the program GPS test and I get the message ''starting GPS" with a yellow dot next to it. I think for some reason the GPS is not starting properly, maybe its because of a piece of software I installed although I tested the GPS after every installation I made and it worked and then suddenly it stopped.
I got fed up again and did another hard reset, installed only TomTom 7.910 and it is now working perfectly again.
I think I wont install anymore software for the time being and then see how long the GPS lasts for this time.

This will make your HD an expansive navigations system .
hehe, Indeed it will, don't know how long I will last before I get bored and start installing stuff again. Not sure what else to do.
So my G1 can't find my location via GPS no matter where I am. I am standing in the middle of a soccer field and it is "your location temporarily unavailable." So I installed GPS status from the market and it is showing that 0 satellites.
I am using JF 1.51, radio 2-22-19-26I, and the DEV SPL(the one with androids on skateboards). Anyone have this problem or know a way to fix it? This has been going on for a few days so it's not a satellite problem. It is phone related. If more info is needed from me I will do my best to get it to you.
Thing I have tried(updated last 16 JUN 2009 12:18 PM -6:00GMT)
-Toggle GPS on and off
-Reboot
-Combination of the above two multiple times
-device wipe(alt-w) and re-flash the JF1.51 ROM
-Toggles and reboots again
-wait for more ideas from you guys
Now I tried installing the dudes cupcake(awesome by the way) but GPS still doesn't work. It picked up one satellite for a couple seconds then it disappeared to 0 again.
Try toggling GPS off then back on. Maybe reboot the device too.

Tried that. No dice. I will edit my original post to include things I have tried.
Did you try waiting a few minutes with GPS status ?
At some point my GPS was very very slow to get a lock.

I let it run all night(6 hours). Still reading 0 satelites.
Update. Got one satellite to show up for a couple seconds then it disappeared. This is after I wiped and installed the dude's latest rom. Still getting 0 satellites in GPS Status and no location on my maps. I have tried the old and updated google maps.

Do you have another GPS equipped device that shows satellite lock? If so, your radio might be dead.

I was afraid of that and I think it is. I just rooted my friends phone and everything works fine. Also I have a Blue Force Tracker(US Army advanced GPS monitoring computer, in laymans terms) and that is working fine. I'm gonna un-root and hope i can get an exchange with t-mobile. I've only had the phone for a month or two.
Just got off the phone with android support from t-mobile. It's funny when you relize you know as much them and then some at times. This place is great.
But back to the main point. I told them the GPS is out, and I have re-flashed the OS(i left out the root and other than t-mobile os's part). Final answer from the rep, we will send you a new phone, sorry yours broke. So that's it for that. JF and TheDudes ROM's had nothing to do with it. Just a bad model I got. Now to un-root...
I just reflashed my phone with stock JF1.51 to clear out some cruft from past experimentation. Upon loading up my complement of apps from the Market (including the 3.1.0 Maps app) I opened Maps and noticed it would not lock onto GPS with a clear view of the sky.
I was able to fix it by opening settings and turning off the Use Wireless Networks option then opening maps again. After it got the first GPS lock, I turned the Use Wireless Networks option back on. All is fine.
Might wanna try that out? It's worth giving a shot.
I don't know what happened but i have reflashed my phone over 5 times today. I was trying to put apps2sd back on JF1.51(skipped a step and bricked it, twice lol) and now it is working again. Strange.
Does anyone have problems with CM7's GPS problem. Everytime I go on Google Maps the GPS wont activate or even attempt to find my location. What gives?
1. Download and install GPS Status.
2. Run GPS Status. Are no satellites being dectected? If so...
3. Menu >> Tools >> Manage A-GPS state >> Reset
4. Reboot immediately.
Delete me now end it all
were you ever able to fix it? i have the same issue and have tryed everything and still cant get it to work
GPS is really finicky on gingerbread. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Even with the gps status app, you can't just up and use google maps. Its like this whole process of clearing the GPS, restarting your phone, and hoping it'll lock onto a satellite. Whereas with froyo, GPS always worked. I don't know why there's such a difference, but it sucks.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I have had the same flaky behavior with GPS.
I've noticed Maps & & Waze don't always enable the GPS.
What I do is pull down the power widget and toggle GPS off then on.
Then it starts searching for satellites.
MyTouch 4G, CM7.1 RC-1 (had the same issue 7.0)
edit dead thread, why did someone even post here??????????????
GPS fix for CM7
Working fix for GPS problem on CM7:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23707700#post23707700
I couldn't reply in the developers area because I haven't posted enough, but wanted to say thanks to Raptorseye for the following:
"download gps status in market, run it, wait till it locks, then you can use your gps/maps..."
Ever since I moved to Gingerbread I've tried everything to get my GPS to work again with no luck. I've tried the ACS GPS fix, I tried remounting the file system and modifying the permissions, I've tried going back to an ec05 rom, and also swapped out the ec05 modem and ee03 modem.
But by running the gps status application from the market as recommended and letting it sit there for about 8 minutes, it finally locked on to over 5 satellites indoors. I was able to then run other gps apps and they worked.
Unfortunately, you have to repeat the connection to the satellites every once in a while using the gps status app.
There's a setting for gps status to download a gps data every hour if u want it to. In gps status click menu tools manage a gps state. Clear the do it again and click download. But as I said in the settings you can have It download assistance data every day or even every hour. Open gps status push menu settings. Gps and sensors. Then auto- download agps data and set it too what u want.
I too use GPS status, but it does take a long time. For me, the quickest solution is to power down, pull the battery and reboot. Takes less than 8 mins (which might be important if you're trying to get somewhere!) and you'll get a virtually instant lock when you go back to your favorite nav app.
Here's to hoping this gets fixed in GB!

This means you're not getting the ephemeris (Xtra) assistance data on boot, or at least it's not being used.
Are you able to get fixes faster using the Settings -> Update AGPS option in GPS Test? GPS Status has a similar option, but that may crash the GPS if the crash bug hasn't been addressed in EE03.

Does an assistance update from GPS Test help here? Or does only a reboot fix it?
It does not take a reboot to work for me. I just reset a gps then download agps assistance. And close gps status and I lock fast every time. Of course as I said I have it set too download assistance data every hour

The assistance data is supposed to be valid for a whole week, so it shouldn't have to be done more often than that. Although it wouldn't surprise me if it needs to be.
I am curious as to how often folks find themselves needing to update assitance data. Once a day? Once every few hours? Last time we looked into this there wasn't a clear answer.

Hm, never have used GPS Test, but I have it installed now and will give it a shot the next time it gets hung trying to get a lock.
The cold boot wasn't my idea, but I heard it mentioned on here months back. I was getting late for an appointment, so I figured, what the heck, i'd give it a shot. The OP mentioned that the battery-pull method is the only way to really clear the GPS, and I'll be darned if it didn't work. It's solved the problem every time I've run into it. I'll be sure to give GPS Test a run and see what happens.
Thanks!
I have been plagued by the no lock/10 minute lock. GPS status didn't help. None of the patches have helped, in the long run...so I just down loaded GPStest Plus, the newest one, and it seems to do the trick. Instant lock the first time out. Tried again a few hours later and nothing after a few minutes so I reset and redownloaded agps and bam, locked within seconds. Will try again in an hour when I usually would not get a lock or a very, very slow lock and see how it goes.
Currently on the official stock 4.2.2 but it's rooted.
The problem is that the GPS always lose its signal and takes hours searching. When I'm driving I turn on navigations but once I go under a tunnel or after about 10minutes the signal gets lost again. My work around is rebooting the phone every ten minutes so the GPS works but after ten minutes it goes back to the problem.
Any suggestion to this problem? Thank you!
Download GPS Status from the playstore. Run the reset and see if it fixes it.
Okay I did but then the app constantly displays "looking for GPS location" and there is no reset option. Is this the app or is it a different one?
Edit:Xda isn't allowing me to upload my screenshot
Edit2: I found out there was another GPS Status app, I'm going to download it and try again
