Random Reboot 2.3.4 i9020A - Nexus S General

Hi,
I'm starting to have random reboots since the new update 2.3.4. Anyone else having problems ?
- I have the Fido Nexus S (i9020A)
- CWM 3.0.2.5 for i9023 (as specified in the thread to root)
- Rooted
It was ok (some reboots during calls, but not when the phone is just sitting there like it does now) with 2.3.3
Thanks in advance

Mine rebooted 3 times today.
First time I've seen it happen on 2.3.4 and it's aggravating.
It happened on my 2.3.1 and 2.3.2
I'm i9020xxkd1

I have not seen it on mine as of yet, I have just rooted and installed CWR so I will see if it changes and let you know.
What I had done before upgrading was to flash back to complete stock 2.3.3 then perform the upgrade to 2.3.4

No random reboots on mine so far. My phone is stock, unrooted.

Mine has worked great also but it is stock, also unrooted.

Hi
I've had a couple, rooted and with both stock Rom and cyanogen

I haven't had any reboots with v2.3.3 or now with v2.3.4 using a Rogers Nexus S model 9020a. I'm running stock and not rooted.
Maybe rooting causes this issue as the only posts with issues are all rooted?

I've been running mine rooted for a day, used it pretty heavily with no issues. I did have a reboot loop in 2.3.3 but that was with Beautiful Widgets.

So far no reboots while in call with 2.3.4 (knock on wood), as it was bad with 2.3.3. Manually installed 2.3.4 within a few days after its release, and have had a few disconnected (dropped) calls - but not a full reboot of the phone itself.
One might say this is T-Mobile, but in the 9 years I've been with T-Mobile, I've never had a problem with dropped calls before. So I can't help but wonder if this is a 2.3.4 issue, since it didn't happen before 2.3.4.
While annoying, at least it's not as bad as a full phone reboot.

Yep I'm comming with the same conclusion. It's pretty lame since there's no way I'm going back to unrooted, guess I'll have to deal with it until someone finds what program is causing this.

I'm getting about 2-3 reboots an hour, this is getting serious. Any way to obtain the crash log or something to tell me what's causing this? I've read logcat wasn't really reliable.

Got a random reboot today, updated version yesterday.

Seems to have something to do with the SETCPU app. I'll try changing some of my profiles. When my phone is full charged, I don't have any problem, but as soon as it gets kinda low, I can have 4-5 reboots an hour or 0... all comes down to luck.

I have a 9020a running 2.3.4 updated manually via CWM.

Random reboots

Hi everyone
I'm new to Nexus S, was using Zte Blade. Well, it's an unpleasant experience of me having so many random reboots with every ROM i tired in last two weeks.
My Blade was rock solid for every thing i threw at it. I tried every Blade rom and never have these strange reboots.
On nexus S, I tried every single ROM that i found on xda-dev, still having these random reboots.
Any suggestion are warmly welcome, all i need is a stable ROM without reboots.
Device info:
Nexus S, i9023
Thanks alot.
regards
Faisal ([email protected])
Give the oxygen rom a try. Has been very stable for me. I had a lot of random reboots with anything cm7 based.

Go back to stock. Nothing beats stock when it comes to stability and speed. I'd suggest Odin back to grh78 and then ota update.
Or you could also flash your first nandroid. I have not had a single reboot since the day 2.3.4 was released and I switched back to stock from cm7

Before you go back stock, try Peter Alfonso's ROM. I suffered badly from reboots under CyanogenMod based ROMs but now everything works how it should.
Thanks everyone for your kind suggestions.
I conclude, i should try oxygen and Alfonso. If the situation remains the same then i will return to the stock.
Tonight i'm gonna try oxygen.
I had similar issues. Been on Oxygen ROM for about a week now. Zero reboots. Fantastic ROM.
FWIW, I have even had random reboots on stock Rom/kernel unrooted!

2.2.2
I'm a CM7 fan really, but I overslept too many times because it rebooted during the night and bootlooped and so my alarm didn't go off!

If you had the same issue on a stock rom (pre 2.3.3) you need to get a new device. This is not normal in any way.

Hi everyone
I think i have found the solution for random boots--at least working for me.
I tried oxygen, alfonso and every other rom in forum with no luck.
Finally i figured out that the common thing among all these ROM flashes is the radio image (XXKD1-GRJ22).
I flashed an older radio XXKB1-GRJ40 and it apparenly solved the issue of random reboots for me. I'm observing it for last 15+ hours.
I will report back after a couple of days.
Cheers

Is it possible to use the 2.3.2 baseband on 2.3.3 xloud?

The new baseband with 2.3.3 (xloud update) cripples my Wifi at all locations (home, work, other homes). It worked perfectly in 2.3.2. Is this something I can revert back to somehow? I am currently on Generic UK, rooted, locked bootloader.
Im having exactly the same problem with my wifi randomly dropping signal mid downloads and whenever it feels like it since the 2.3.3 update. Im hoping that 2.3.4 will fix this. Mine also was perfect on 2.3.2...
Anyone know if the wifi is in the fix list of 2.3.4, or can anyone tell me if its a solid wifi experience in 2.3.4
It took me about 10 retrys to download a gameloft game yesterday due to this buggy 2.3.3 wifi which isnt good enough!

+1
Other ROM's built on 2.3.3 that I have tried also have this problem (obviously?). I'm using CM FXP30 atm and haven't had any WiFi issues at all.
Also I cannot comment on 2.3.4 fixing the WiFi issues, but if it does then a custom rom built on 2.3.4 is win/win
If you do a nandroid backup of you 2.3.3 rom, then flash the full .tft file of the 2.3.2 rom, then format /system and use the advanced restore function in CWM to restore /system partition, you will keep the 2.3.2 radio on 2.3.3/2.3.4.

[Q] Random reboots since 4.2.2 update

I don't remember having a problem with my Nexus 7 and random reboots before the 4.2.2 update but ever since the update, I notice that it reboots spontaneously several times a day. I'm rooted with the stock ROM.
Anybody else having this issue since the update?
Yes, I also have problems with the Google play music but the reboots are not frequent but still.

No, not many people are reporting this. What kernel are you running? Spontaneous reboots make me think kernel issues.

Kernel version 3.1.10-g05b777c
*777c is the stock kernel for 4.2.2 and been running that for 10 days or so, and no - I haven't seen or notice any random reboot - on stock rom.
Do you have any background APPS or widget running that might be doing this ??

I have Weatherbug widget and a battery widget running, I'll have to check those, although they hadn't caused any issues before the update.

[Q] Nexus 4 Shuts Off while Idle

Hi all,
Ever since I upgraded to 4.3 I've noticed my phone, when idle, completely shuts off and I have to do a hard reset to get it back up again. It did this when I was Chromecasting netflix, but I've completely removed netflix since then. Anyone else noticing their phone completely shutting off when idled? Any solutions?
FYI. My phone is not rooted. Standard stock 4.3
I'm having the same problem at least once a day and totally random. Not rooted and stock 4.3.

I'm seeing random reboots about once or twice a day too.
I'm running deodexed stock 4.3 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010887
Did cache/dalvik/system wipes. Upgraded from stock 4.2.2, which was stable as a rock. Might go back to that.. nothing too new in 4.3
Try reflashing everything using the google stock occam image. Mine works fine here.

[Q] Downgrading from OTA updates

With the latest update I received from Verizon for my Razr M XT907 my phone has been using battery a lot faster than normal and running overall slower. I'm wondering if there is a way to downgrade to an earlier update version or just to the original build that was on the phone when it was released. My phone is not rooted or otherwise modded otherwise I would of just put on another rom or just did a total refresh of everything but it's stock so I'm kinda stuck. I've done resets, I've cleared the cache, I've checked the current root methods and none of them seem to work on this build (which is build 98.18.94.xt907 on verizon).
Really would appreciate even a point in the right direction for this phone as it's never been like this before the update, the battery was always good before lasting all day on a single charge and the lag with apps was never there before this update and I'm really getting bummed out over the phone now suddenly dropping in quality over an update.

Since your bootloader is locked, you can't downgrade. There are also no root methods for the current update. If you've already tried to clear caches and FDR, you might just need to use the stock firmware and flash it in RSD and start with a clean slate.
Wait a second. Let me get this straight. Locked bl =no downgrade?? All of a sudden there is lag and the radio is terrible! I was counting on being able to rsd back to the previous build.

The update before the one that patched the boot loader disabled downgrading with RSD. If you complain to Verizon, you might get lucky and get a factory unit with 4.1.1 installed, where you can then unlock and enjoy working stock.
