Hello All,
After lurking here for a couple of weeks and trying to decide on the brand of tablet to purchase, I decided on the Acer A500. I'm kind of new to tablets so I hope you will allow me some simple questions as I learn how to use this thing.
Right now, I have downloaded Flash 10.3 and pressed 'Install' but I do not have any indication that it loaded properly. I don't see an icon for on the Apps screen. Can someone tell me how to check to make sure it is loaded correctly? I played some video on CNN and it worked OK and YouTube seems to work as well.
many thanks in advance,
Brian
You can check by going into your tablets settings, then tap applications, then under downloaded, adobe flash should be there.

Flash isn't going to have an icon on the tablet. It isn't an app. It is what could best be classed as a plugin or codec - something that makes other things work.
You can either go to the Settings | Applications | Manage applications | Downloaded (tab), or in the Market app it will show as installed in the "My Apps" section.
Great - thanks.

So I opened up youtube on my Xoom to find it loading the same App that my Droid uses. I was puzzled for a couple minutes but I went to my apps and uninstalled updates for my youtube app. Then when I went to opened up youtube again the problem was fixed and the beautiful honeycomb version of the youtube app was loading.
For a better look at this issue and the solution I posted a video describing this issue and the solution.

this happened to me too I just uninstalled youtube from the market and now its back to honeycomb version
This happened to me and resolved it the same way you did, but now the problem is that Youtube is showing under the not installed section on the marketplace.
mine was showing up as not installed in market, so i stupidly installed it. I get the phone version now. I just tried uninstalling it and there's no option to. what do i do now?
Uninstall from the Market itself

Forgive me if you already tried this. But go to marketplace, then 'My Apps' and find the youtube app. In the middle panel on the bottom should be a button to click that says 'uninstall updates' , this is also reflected in the above video in the root post of the thread.
If you already tried this, go to the advanced setting panel. go to applications and all apps. When there look for youtube app and try to force close it. If it was running now try to repeat the above step.
Hope this helps

thanks, but it didn't work. I first went to Settings to force close it, but it wasn't running. I cleared cache anyway.
then in market, there is no option to uninstall updates or even uninstall the program.
not sure what's going on.

Enable Youtube and Google Books on your Wifi only Xoom
Do Not Return Your Xoom
If you have had a problem with the missing YouTube and/or Google Books application, here is the fix that works:
1. Connect to WiFi network.
2. Go into Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
3. Go to the "All" tab and then scroll down and select "Google Partner Setup."
Clear Data.
Reboot your Xoom. (That is, turn it off and on.)
If this doesn't work, perform a factory reset (Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset) and try the sequence above again.
Good Luck
Android Market just updated to 3.0.26. It includes a completely revamped new design (WP7?) and Book and Movie rentals. (Country Specific! Market Enabler might help)
Download the .apk here
You can download the .apk and install using a file manager. Might FC once if you try to open immediately after installing, but works fine after. Looks cool.
UNINSTALLING:
If you think it sucks, go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Find the Market and > Uninstall updates.
Screenies attached.
Did not know about that! Will try it later, I'm at work right now. :/ Thanked you!
Tried it!!! And its awesome!!!!
It looks purdy, but performance on mine is less than smooth.
I think it looks nice on hdpi devices. On this one it doesn't and it's slow. I like the old one better.
movies option is not there
something lyk videos but not movies
I am using this **** from last night and honestly speaking not working for me. hell slow. I am going back to traditional one.
Just finished watching a rented Halo movie using the new Market Place, got some new books too.
There's a lot more books in the AMP, than in the Sense "My Shelf" app. But the Sense app looks way better.
Oh Sense "Movie" app lets you purchase.

i had a problem recently with my LG p-500 and master reseted it (factory data reset). After reboot everything was as first time used, no apps , nothing ,just stock apps.
I started downloading the apps i currently use and i was surprised to see that the apps installed from android market did nothing.
No updates available at all. I used to have Google maps 5.7 and now only 5.2 and no possibilitty to update to 5.7, and other apps too.
can i fix this ?
i cleared the data, cache and uninstalled market updates and still nothing.

Has anyone else had the problem where you're browsing the market on your a500, click to download an app, and it simply doesn't download?
About 70% of the time (conservative estimate) the "taskbar" shows that an app is downloading, but the "My Apps" panel in the market doesn't show that download. If I leave it alone, the taskbar reports that the download completed, but I don't see the app anywhere. I also noticed that if I'm browsing the market on my PC and I send an app to be downloaded on my tablet, if the "My Apps" panel isn't open on the tablet, the app will not download.
I'm running the stock OTA 3.1 ROM.
I get that a lot. I am forced to hit back and then select install or download the app a 2nd time. Not sure why.
I have always had this same problem ,even after updates from the Market. I hate the Market. It turns into a major thing just trying to download anything. It's very frustrating and takes 10 minutes of trying, trying again, cussing, connection time outs. Its pretty bad when we have a Android device and its a Android market and they still can't get it right. Maybe it's a Honeycomb thing? Maybe they should call apple and get some advice?

+1
common issue
Go into settings
Application
Manage applications
Browse to the market app
Clear app data.
This will sometimes fix that issue but only for a while
Worked for me
Good luck
I've had the same problem. Running Taboonay custom ROM version 2.0.
market
Same here have had that problem and so does wife. I get a kick out of wife she gets frustrated and impatient and swears at it.....lmao
So for a while there I was having the same issue. I went into clock work recovery and wipe dcache and battery stats and now all is well again. I would recommend that.

My issues seems to be that when I try to pull down an app, it tells me that it is unable to purchase. And suggestions?
I've had that a few times where I couldn't purchase an app. I found that purchasing through the online market works fine and auto-installs into the right device. It might have something to do with the lack of phone and IMEI number; could be wrong though.
Also, buying stuff with my phone then installing on my tablet works fine.
Go to settings applications Tonto market app then clear . Simple fix. Simple fix
Tried all this stuff still dont work
So i tried all this stuff and it still wont even download anymore it just FC when i click the my apps button FC this is really annoying. Went to market on pc it even says the app is installed on my device and it is soooooo not. Saw on another thread someone said Google was blacklisting users they know are rooted which i think is just dumb and dont believe, who cares what we do to the device we are still running android and want to purchase apps from the store. super lame well gonna try few other things then guess reinstall rom and kernel and see if that helps thank got for titanium backup
So I read that there are more than a few apps that can be install and work on the Nexus Player but don't show up in it's store, specifically Crunchyroll is the app i'm talking about, now it did in fact install it and it works, but it doesn't show up on the app list on the main page, to open it I have to dig down in the menu to installed apps in the settings menu and run it from there, is there any way to get it to show up properly on the main page?

Chainfire made an app just for this purpose:
PlayStore: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.tv.sideloadlauncher&hl=en
XDA News: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/chainfire-sideload-applications-android-tv/
Thread Home: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-sideload-launcher-android-tv-t2914962
After posting I realized that I didn't fully answer your question. Any app can be made to show up, it just needs to be coded into each app individually. I'm still trying to find it, but it is a "Leanback Announce" line that needs to be added, but using the SideLoad Launcher is much easier!
Awesome, thanks!

Your observation about the PlayStore has been made by digixmax recently. I don't have a solution for that one. I still get a lot of (sometimes useless) apps on a search. You can use a computer to access the Store and have the app sent to your device.
I can confirm that both the Amazon App Store and the Kindle app are broken. You can still read local content with the Kindle app.
You can also get apps from direct-download sources and side load them.

It's remotely possible someone may tinker with the apps but unlikely. You might as well remove the Amazon App Store. If you have local .mobile content the Kindle app could still be useful.
Edit: Could you try something with Search Market? I did a search on "Kindle" and got 250 hits today. Use the menu "button" to access Settings and see if your app filter is too restrictive. I have mine set for all apps, but that does tend to give a lot of junk after the initial near hits. Maybe that's why people are getting so few hits?

Yes. When you start Search Market you get a keyboard and a blank search field. The menu button does nothing there. Directly to the left of the search field is a "button" that takes you to a more typical Market screen where, among other things you can look at "My Apps" for your NST. It's on this screen that the menu button wiil bring up Settings.
I don't know that I ever changed the restrictions on what kinds of apps to display but it occurred to me recently that this might be the issue you and others have been seeing. It's worth a shot, anyway.

When I do this, what I get (at the screen bottom) are "Search", "Downloads", and "Help", but no "Settings".
I am using the SearchMarket version you attached to your post here, so perhaps this behavior disparity has to do with my NST running on 1.2.1 as opposed to 1.1.2?

I have always run FW 1.21.
This whole thing just gets curiouser. I went back for a closer look and that "button" I mentioned actually calls the Market app (AFAICS) and it's there that I get a "settings" option along with the others you mention. There is a filter in the settings for what kinds of apps to display but I don't know to what extent the apps interact (if at all), and in any case, changing the filter setting seemed to have no effect. I still got many, many results from a search using Search Market.
So I went back to the original GApps post to see if the package had been updated since I did my install. Certainly the file name is the same and the size seems to be the same. There is some talk there about changing the way you sign into the Market, etc., but it's not clear to me when that changed and I rooted my NST with NookManager so long ago (or so it seems to me) that I just can't remember. I do still have the original zip of the Gapps Attack file, FWIW.
My "Market" app is 4.03 MB on the NST but there's no obvious version number anywhere I can see. However replacing that one seems risky since the whole sign-in thing with Google is so tricky.
I'm stumped. As clunky as the Search Market app is, it has been useful to me because it only displays apps that have the potential to run under Android 2.1. I went through many, many apps when I was looking for a sound recording app that would work well and create mp3 files. Using Search Market shortened what was already a tedious process.
