[Q] Anyway to uninstall B&N apps on NC? - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had to bring my NC back to stock 1.0.1 and then bring it up to 1.2. I then did a Manual Nooter (if that's the correct terminology) 4.5.6.
Previous to this I had purchased an app from B&N. During my recent "back to stock and then to 1.2" this app was showing up in "My Library". Now that I'm at 1.2 with MN 4.5.6, the app stills stays in "My Library" and isn't included in the apps area.
How can I manually un-install this app so I can download it again. I figure then it will show up in the correct place.
I tried Nook Color Tools->manage applications, but the "uninstall" button for that application doesn't seem to be able to be pressed.
Any ideas? Thanks.
Edit: Also, when trying to launch the app from My Library, I can an error dialog stating that this book can't be read.

Answering my own question:
The only way I found out was to bring my NC back to stock 1.0.1, register it, turn off wifi, install stock 1.2 update, turn on wifi, install MN 4.5.6, and then go to apps and "sync" them using the little sync button in the upper left hand corner. Thanks.

How to get back to Go Laucher Ex when you defaulted the Nook launcher

Here's a little trick that may help several of you.
Requisites: Nook touch rooted (with touchnooter), Button savior, Opera, and a touch of stupidity.
The other day I decided to default the Nook launcher in button savior as this is what I use the most at the moment… or so I thought. The issue is that, once using the stock Nook launcher, one has no more access to anything but the stock Nook set of apps. Even button savior does not allow to use Go Launcher Ex. And there is no way to access the Nook Color tools or any other prefs. Searching for file onto the SD card leads to only findings in 'my library' and B&N's shop. This really sucks
So how to revert without re-flashing everything and loosing all apps?
1. Go in setting, search for www.google.com
2. Open Opera (hopefully you installed a more capable browser than the stock…)
3. Then search in Opera for home manager apk
4. Get it from the developer homepage (http://sites.google.com/site/droidcarp/home/home-manager)
5. Download it and save it in your download folder.
And here comes the neat trick:
6. From within Opera's download manager, run the app.
7. Finally kill the stock Nook launcher…
I eventually uninstalled Home manager, because it constantly leaves 2 notifications in the notification bar. These allow to switch launcher seamlessly, but since it is also present in the button savior app… what's the point.
There's probably other ways to do what I described above. But at least this method does not request a computer
Almost!
When I attempt to run the app from Opera the message says "For security your phone is set to block installation of applications not sourced in Android Market."

[Q] Android Market not showing all apps

yesterday i rooted my kindle and installed the android market. however there are some apps that are not shown, for example, angry birds ( the angry birds seasons does show, but the other two doesn't )
i live overseas but use MarketEnabler (the same configuration i have in my nook which currently show all apps)
ï ensured that the lcd density is 160, and also tried the market fix that applied to the nook color (and other tablets):
Choose "Manage Applications" from the list.
Select the "All" tab.
Scroll down to "Market" and select it.
Tap "Force stop".
Tap "Clear cache".
Tap the Back button if you have SoftKeys running, else swipe right to left on the status bar at the bottom of the screen (from the clock to the book icon).
Scroll up to "Google Services Framework" and select it.
Tap "Clear data".
Tap "OK".
Tap "Force stop".
Press the n button to return to your launcher.
Start Market.
At the "An error has occurred" message, tap "OK".
Hold your power button to turn off your NOOK Color from the menu.
Turn your NOOK Color back on and give it a moment to find your WiFi connection.
Start Market again, and the problem is resolved.
but it didnt help
i'm on stock 6.2.1, has anyone had (and solved) this problem
I've noticed random apps missing from the market as well and I am in the US. One example is Google Maps

Not if they are not using CM7, from the OP of that link you provided:
YOU MUST BE RUNNING CM7!
YOU MUST HAVE ROOT!
I WILL NOT SUPPORT STOCK!

Google maps does not show up because the KF does not have the hardware to support its functions.
That doesn't mean you can't side load it, you can, and parts of it will work, but the market only shows you things that you device is listed as capable of.

[Q] Google Play

Hi! I have a rooted nook color version 1.4.1, model BNRV200. When I first rooted it, android market was running fine. But few months ago (can't remember when), android market was removed from the apps, that's when I knew that it was replaced by Google Play. Also, whenever I click "n" the nook displays the menu bar at the bottom of the screen and when i click anything, nook went back to unrooted state. Then I will reboot to access the rooted state again. And clicking "n" would take me back to unrooted state, and so on.
My questions are: (1) How do I add Google Play into my rooted nook (rooted using manual nooter 5.02.19 apps2d. note that i rerooted my nook into this and got the same result. (2) How do I fix the "n" problem? thanks in advance.

(1) Your NC should have automatically updated itself to the Google Play Store. When you open that app drawer, you should see a white shopping bag that has a multicolor sideways triangle on it that says “Play Store” under it. If this is missing from your device, open the app "NookColor Tools" --> All Settings --> Manage Applications --> All, look for "Market" or "Google Play Store," and then select "Uninstall Updates." This will take you back to the original market, open the market, agree to the terms and conditions, then exit the market to allow it to update. After a couple minutes, you should see the old market app disappear, and the new "Play Store" app appear in the app drawer. Just open the "Play Store" app, and agree to the terms and conditions.
(2) It is not taking you to an unrooted state, it is just taking you back to the factory B&N home. This happened because someone set the factory home as the default action to take. To fix this, you need to go to the NookColor Tools app --> All Settings --> Manage Applications --> All --> HomeCatcher, and select the last option "Clear Defaults." Now when you click "n," and select "Home," you will be presented with an option menu that has two chooses, select the top option, and check to the make to make it your default. Whenever you click "n," and select "Home," it will keep you in the Zeam launcher, and you can just use the "Nook Home" app from the app drawer to get back to the factory B&N home if you need too.

[Q] "n" Key Long Press Default

I recently rooted my Nook Color with ManualNooter 5.02.19 and everything worked like a dream.
However, I accidentally made the default long press going to the B&N normal home screen, as opposed to the Zeam Launcher. Now, once I accidentally go to any screen that isn't associated with the Zeam Launcher, I can't get back into those keys! I'm such a dummy - if I reboot, and unlock the screen, there it shows me to get to the Zeam Launcher, so I can change settings, I just don't know where to go.
It popped up where I should go to change this, but unfortunately, I didn't catch it Can anyone please advise?

No sure where it is in stock, but you need to find where your app information is in settings and clear the default for B&N launcher. Then the next time you long press, it will ask what you want to do.

Once you reboot, and are in the Zeam Launcher, go to the app "NookColor Tools" --> All Settings --> Manage applications --> All --> Zeam Launcher --> Clear defaults. The next time you press home, you can reselect the one that you want.
Can you use Home Switcher with stock? That is what I used when this same process baffled me in CM7.

Yes, Home Switcher and Home Manager work with stock rooted. Either one easily allows you to change back and forth between home launchers and set the default. I don't believe either lets you change the short/long press action. For that you usually need to go into the settings.
Also if you are running Softkeys or Button Savior you may need to go into those settings and change the default action for short/long press of home to go to where you want for each.

Home button screwing up

I am running cm10, and my home button (hard or soft) does not work. the screen just turns blank then goes back to the app i was on. sliding the home button up to get to GNow doesn't work either. this happens with every app and nightly version i use since 11/19. i have reflashed, cleared caches, etc. and found that the error was in my data partition- and more specifically, one of my apps. here is a link to my logcat when i pressed the soft home button:
http://pastebin.com/udGmNByF
and here is the list of all the folders in my /data/app folder:

If you need anything else, just ask. Thanks!

I would guess that one of your installed apps has captured your home button then is crashing when it tries to use it. To find out which one it is, temporarily install a third party launcher like zeam or adw and the next time you press the home button a list of eligible apps that can use the home button pops up. Your bad app is probably on that list. Chose the new launcher, make it default and see if your problem goes away.

That didn't work, it just turned black again. Would only an app with su permissions be able to do this, or any app at all?
By "do this", I mean screw up the home button. Also, I wiped the data, and it worked fine, but after I installed all of my apps, it stopped working again. Also, I am running some other apps that aren't from the Play Store (well they are, but the apk's were downloaded from another source). Would those external apps be the culprit?

They do not need su access to capture the home button. When you say reinstall, do you mean reinstall, or do you mean restore with a backup program. The latter usually restores the app's data with it and recreates your problem.

I mean reinstall, like from the play store, but it did it automagically when i logged into google play, i didn't need to go to each app and install it.
Would the external apps be a problem?
Also, I know that in the Manualnooter for the stock OS there is an app called "Homecatcher". would that help at all?
Okay- I looked through the logcat and guessed what the issue was- lock screen was disabled.
I re-enabled it through the notification bar, and home button is fine. Any reason why this might be? And how would I make it so that I can disable the lockscreen again?

Dont let play store install them all at once. Back them up with TB and reinstall them one by one until your problem re-occurs. And do it without the data. Don't know about homecatcher. That is for stock.
Okay, I've narrowed theproblem down more. If the NC boots with the lock screen enabled, you are fine, even if you disable it. But if it boots with the lock screen disabled, then the home button will not work until you re-enable it and unlock the device. After you e-enable it, you can disable the lock screen again. Not anything major, but definitely an annoyance. Should I report this in the CM10 thread and ask them to fix it? Sorry if I sound like a big ******* taking their work for granted, but I don't have a 64-bit computer to build on. If I had one, I would prbly fix the problem myself. Oh well, thta's what Xmas is for. (A bit off topic from this thread, but is the Acer C7 Chromebook 64-bit? If it is then i would just hack ubuntu on it then build off of that.)
