I've noticed a couple times scrolling through the forums that an outsider interested in buying the phone might be turned away if they read through here. Of course, odds are they wouldn't come to XDA in the first place, but still the complaints - though in the minority - are most obvious.
Tired of all the hater threads? Love your HD2 as much as I do? Enjoy the looks of envy from 3GS users? This is our thread
Besides, the best unexpected side benefit of the HD2: plentiful opportunities for "that's what she said."
Wow... the counter part entitled "Lets face it: HD2 (and XDA!) is f*in amazing!". Things are getting interesting.
The best thing I love about HD2 is screen, CPU, WiFi router and Remote Desktop Mobile (my personal favourite). Perhaps a couple of other "diamonds sparkling behind the rock". You need to dig to get the diamonds....lol...
I received envy, but not necessarily quite the type I thought...!
I was at the shops waiting for my GF, playing with my HD2. A little boy probably around 10yo was with his mum sitting next to me spotted me playing games.
Boy: "Look there mum!! See!! EVERYONE has an iPhone!!"
Surprisingly, I was actually slightly offended that someone would mistake the HD2 as an Apple product...but he was only a kid so I kept quiet and just continued playing...hehe.
Love it all, screen crisp and clear, fast fast fast processor and navigates really easily and well, surprising ease of use input methods, that fact that while its big it doesnt feel too big when using it as a phone, how clear and loud the speakers are, plays movies really well and so much better than I expected, really easy to use and individualise... so much more that I'm afraid if I keep typing it will look like I am gushing...
I sold My iPhone 3gs to buy this.................. best thing I have done

+ 1 and couldn't agree more
oh boy... there we go again...
... I'll just add, that I can play street fighter alpha 3 full speed with sound while sitting on the damn toilet. at the moment there's nothing better than hd2 to run playstation emulator.
oh yeah... it's a decent phone too...
im lovin my hd2 tbh. my last phone was an omnia and over at modaco there is a great rom scene, i havent even tried a custom rom on the hd2 yet, so i havent scratched the surface on what this amazin piece of kit can offer! the best thing about wm is defo the customization.
the screen on this device is something else, web browsing is amazing (im writin this on hd2 now).
xda is brilliant, this forum is so active, lots going on!!

normally i`m not responding in threads starting HD2 is bleh bleh, but now +1, loving it...
Finally a thread that makes sense
I love the screen, the wifi speed, the speed in the menus, the video playback (streaming with coreplayer of course), the pinch to zoom, the hardware, sense 2.5, the screen resolution and again that screen... so beautiful
moved from xperia x1, the processor is twice fast and so the screen!
still at stock Rom until my spare battery arrive best phone in winmo era!
buy another iptouch if you want to play fancy game, affordable compared to awesome HD2
At work yesterday I showed a mate who has an iPhone, side by side the HD2 just looks SOOOO much nicer
Htc hd2 ftw
I hope i'll be able to write a line or two in this thread next week
I love the HD2, the wonderful screen estate, the speed and all the wonderful mods. XDA-developers is the one reason I stayed with HTC phones and not gone for others. All the help and wonderful tweaks and modifications just make the phone unique to us and we feel so free to do as we like without being restricted.
Best time was when a iPhone 3gs owner got envious of my HD2 XD
And as many o got offended when some ppl have misstaken it for a iPhone >.<
HD2 looks way better than a iPhone, faster too ^^.
Just a quick one from a very loyal windows phone user who went to iPhone 3GS and then played with a HD2...
There are MANY reasons to go back to windows/HTC and given that I have been using the 3GS for around 6 months now, it's quite a big thing to say.
There are also many reasons to stay with the iPhone.
To be honest, the functionality and hardware...the HD2 wins hands down and not a single person can say otherwise.
Software-wise - I have to admit, the same BUT, when I went back to the iPhone, I couldnt help noticing the simplicity of it all which sometimes made it a bit better to use.
There were also a few niggles that the iPhone seemed to not have
Other: The appstore.
This is where the iPhone won over the market place.
The apps are cheap, there are plenty of them around and some of the very few games that I always have to have on a phone (need for speed/asphalt) were a lot better on the iPhone.
Why am I going back to the iPhone?
Only one reason after all that testing... logmein!
I heavily use logmein for home/work and this is something that is too flakey on the HD2.
iPhone has an app, its all done via the app. Related to this, the web side of things work very well on the iphone where zooming in still fits the page to the screen.
Niggles:
Main one is that the Audi and the HD2 don't like each other in that the contacts are only syncing up to the letter N
Second was emails i found easier on the iphone (don't shout!)
I love the idea of how it displays on the HD2 but hate the idea that to delete, I have to go into another screen or whatever. This is going back to Simplicity that you have 4 icons, one to reply, one to delete, and whatever the others do ON the email in question. Same goes for multiselect...going to a menu, select, select several is 3 screens to many and the iPhone slide>delete individually is still "simpler"
having said all of this, if I had never touched the iPhone, I would not have realised any of the above and gone for the HD2
But the way I work is to take the HD2, not use the 3GS, and see if I need to use the 3GS for anything...if not, the HD2 is a winner.
And in this case, it did win had it not been for the bluetooth and logmein.
End of the day, it's all personal preference and I know for a fact I'll go back to HTC/WinMo once I get what I want on it
Right now, I just dont know what to do and still have both devices in my pocket
A friend of mine brought his HD2 to work today. And I liked how the screen looks on this phone. The size difference is very significant. And browser speed was better than the nexus! Made me a bit upset. The windows based operating system never interest me, but it looked great on the HD2, I just didn't like the pic quality it takes, the lack of pinch and zoom and the limited apps windows have to offer. But it certainly is a worthy competition to our beloved nexus one.
Word has it that it freezes alot....
watch this video thats 7:29 long, you'll see what I mean towards the end.. worth the watch. You can also fast foward to 5:30 in the video to see what i'm talking about and watch the rest.

Right, he did mention it froze a lot and he was about to return it. But after an update he said everything is fine and dandy.

Im not sure what browser he was using but my stock android browser is much faster than opera 10 mobile :\ If he was using opera mini/ skyfire its kind of an unfair test since they use server side rendering.
I had the hd2 and there's no way the browser on the hd2 is better than the one on the nexus.
my friend has an HD2 and yes, its friggin huge compared to our n1's!. texting on it felt horrible and I noticed similar problem with the nexus texting issue how the keypresses would jump all over the place. also the UI looks lovely but kind of confusing
I compared the hd2 and my nexus the day hd2 arrived, no way other. than screen is that thing better. Windows 6. 5 felt so old, and the browser was not faster I tested it, 9.7 vs my stock, needless to say I walked out proud I have a n1, even the store reps agreed I made the right choice.... hardware its nice but that's it.
I too tested the HD2 at a T-Mobile store the day it came out in the states.
I kept trying to swipe to different home screens and then realized I couldn't; only that small film strip at the bottom. I just thought "oh, is that it?"
After seeing all the problems my mom has with that thing, I will never buy any Windows Mobile device. Not worth freezes, black screens, horrible lag, hard typing, it just overall doesn't feel like something I could use everyday..
Just read thru this article, looks pretty sweet. There is also a youtube video where they show it in use. Makes me want it even more.
Even though I've been looking at every news article I can get my hands on (literally), I never even seen this mentioned anywhere before.
Surprised no one on here has mentioned this sweet app!
http://techcrunch.com/2011/02/02/android-honeycomb-ipad/
tl;dr the movie app gets demoed at 2:25
Yup, 3.0 seems like a major step in the right direction, especially in the tablet arena. Looking forward to discovering all the nooks and crannies over time with usage, the kind of details that aren't revealed in a quick hands-on.
Looks sweet, thanks for the link!
Thanks. I missed that video somehow. The movie editor is news to me. I look forward to being able to tinker with it.
Hey guys,
I have a Xoom and recently tried to use the movie studio...maybe I can't figure it out, but I am disappointed with how generic it is.
The ability to add clips/pictures is fine, but it is annoying that I cannot trim clips before I put it into the timeline.
Also, this is huge, but why can't I put multiple audio files into the movie? It plays ONE song, over and over for the entire movie...I want to be able to trim audio clips and even MUTE the original video clip...iMovie can do all of this, and it seems like this movie studio is just a generic rushed POS that Google put out just to get it out.
Honestly, I am severely disappointed in the movie studio....BUT maybe it is my fault...thats why I am asking if there is any documentation for the studio.
Like when I click on audio files, there is one option at the top right that does not seem to do anything. It looks like a box with sound waves in it that get bigger or smaller depending if I toggle it...but it doesn't do ****.
Any thoughts?
It's a basic and free app included with the OS. If you want to do extended editing, get a computer or wait for a better app to come out.
And wow, comparing it with iMovie? Honeycomb is a new OS, and this is the very first offering and you're *****ing about it.
iMovie is a paid app ($5 I think) and NOT available for the iPad.
iMovie works with iPhone 4,
fourth-generation iPod touch, and iPad 2

who cares if its a first offering...I am still disappointed in it. It is a lacking movie editor.
iMovie was Apple's first attempt at it with the IP4 on a mobile device and it was already much better than the Movie Studio...being a "first" iteration is not an excuse for something sucking.
And I dont think the movie studio has anything to do with Honeycomb...I love honeycomb

So put forth your money and buy one of the paid apps if you want something more.
My point, don't complain about something that was thrown in as a little bonus for free. If you paid something for it, sure, complain, but you didn't, and you're comparing it to a paid application on another system that isn't even comparable to the Xoom (iPhone vs Tablet).
And I can guarantee that iMovie on the iPad 2 is going to be at least twice as much as the iPhone version, maybe even more knowing how Apple likes to soak their users. I'm guessing $15
What paid one do you suggest...

Never needed one since I don't do much video. Check out the market?
https://market.android.com/apps/MEDIA_AND_VIDEO/
There's only 1 in the market and it just takes any video clip u have and you can edit that one clip
I agree with the op. Google seems to always release beta software. I would love to record a couple videos, clip them and mix them together, add more than one music track I would even pay for an app that does all this.
I don't even want to show the app to any of my apple loving friends because it just makes the xoom look even more unfinished
I honestly think people need to chill out around here. The op was stating a couple things he didn't like about an app on his xoom whether it's free or not doesn't matter, he's got the right to complain about what ever the hell he wants. And furthermore he's really just asking for some type of documentation because maybe he missed something. And this lame ass excuse that because this is Google's first shot at a tablet os is starting to get old. Just because honeycomb is the first tablet os doesn't mean that google shouldn't be held accountable for their **** ups. For example, the ****ing market. Who's genius idea was it to remove the ability to comment on apps from the device? Whoever that was is an asshole. /rant

The video editing software is just made for basic video editing...features that you find in window video editing software.
exactly. Thanks.
I was stating how bad I thought it was then was asking for some/any documentation...
Does anyone know what the heck the button is on the top right when you click on the audio track? It looks like sound waves....and clicking it makes them flatter or larger but I can't see or hear what it does.

i'm baffled too. my first guess would be it helps eliminate crackles or background noise from your audio as my first guess. music files shouldnt have any background distortion.
How to get video off device?
I have another video editor. How can I get the video file off of the xoom? I have tried:
- email as attachment in gmail
- email as attachment in isp mail service
- ftp
None of these actually transmit the file.
Thank you
Tom
Usefulness of the application aside. Google could have done more on documentation for Movie Studio.

any answer on the music button? Figured out what it does yet?
I wish we could fade the music at the end instead of an abrupt ending...I'd rather have that than multiple songs in a short clip.
Export problem
I have flashed my Galaxy GT-I9000M with IGS 4.0.3 SGS rom RC4.2.
I cannot export anything with Movie Studio, each time I want to export, the screen appear at 0% and exit after few second and say "error occur, cannot export"
I have try just to import one clip and export it, not work. Try different quality and resolution, don't work.
Exporting folder not created?
Writing permission ??
Any idea ???
Hi,
I moved on from Samsung Galsxy ACE S5830i Android phone to Nokia Lumia 520 three months ago. I switched to this handset just because of the laggy behaviour my Android handset had. Now, my WP8 Lumia 520 works smooth.
But other than it being smooth, I don't find any useful apps in it. I just miss my Android.in WP8 - Customization sucks, no home screen, no timely push notification, no good media player, no notification centre, no individual volume adj...and the problems goes on..and on...
Even if I could root my WP, still I don't think I could fix these issues. Feels like wanna go back to an Android.
I feel like I made a mistake !

Or maybe that's just trolling
OP, If you want a full WP8 experience with great features.. a good camera, a great screen, great music player (although Nokia music is broken atm) and so on.. should've bought a Nokia 925, Ativ S or 8X, but You should've checked WP8 out before you went over.. what your talking about are plain for all to see in reviews and websites and the things that "Suck" are features of WP8 that are great, I love my Ativ S and the best day was when I ditched my Galaxy S4.. yeah you read it right.. my S4 and went to WP8.. best decision ever.. emails, better keyboard, great people hub, a gorgeous sleek smooth interface.. especially on the AMOLED screen, great music player (Wolfson chip).. WP8 now has Weave.. better than Flipboard, although Flipboard is very good and so on..
For me, Android sucks:
- Android/Play Store is a freakin mess now a days
- The store is so big because 20 - 30 apps all do the same thing, so most of it is redundant.
- Google play has major security issues.. they even download a Virus scan for your Phone .. Wow
- With Android phones, you have about 10 - 30 apps running in the background that you never use which sneak away data and use battery... Goto Settings > Apps > Running.... have a look, its scarey
- Especially for Samsung Android, other than a custom rom, You cant uninstall useless blooatware that youll never use.
- The reason you pay so much for Android phones is because Andoid is So bugged and laggy, you need top end hardware to handle all the rubbish running in the background
And Im sure folk here could list loads more, but im not starting a troll thread here.. its just you hear sooo many people complaining about things that they could've avoided by reading around.
However, one thing I do agree with you on and should be fixed is the Volume system, WP8 really needs separate Volumes for ringtones and Notifications and a 2nd one for Music and Media.
Stick with WP8 and live a better life where everything works as it should.
Enjoy
Right guys, lets kill this thread now, there is no sense continuing it and we all know where its going
