Hi there
I was wondering whether there has been any progress made on porting android or linux onto HERM100 (i-mate JASJAM).
I have searched your forums and the evidence was that it was not possible unless compiled with a kernel for a lower-end ARM processor and RAM.
Are there any tutorials that you could direct me to?
Thanks

Hi,
I am regularly watching linux-omap mailing list and today someone post a patch that adds support to omap850.
Patch is available here :
http://source.mvista.com/git/gitweb...9ae42d4;f=arch/arm/mach-omap1/board-fsample.c
http://source.mvista.com/git/gitweb...4;f=include/asm-arm/arch-omap/board-fsample.h
it would be interesting to checkout the tree in a few days and check this patch.
Another thing, recently I try haret on TI omap but omap wasn't supported because haret is using the bad registry to identify cpu.
On the ML someone was asking the following :
Is the OMAP850 currently detected exactly like the 730 via the JTAG ID (see
> > arch/arm/mach-omap1/id.c)
Maybe it could help.
Unfortunately I don't have time to work on it and I am not skilled enough in linux dev. to work on this but I can help developpers.
In a few days we should be able to download the linux kernel with omap850 support at this address : http://linux.omap.com/
I will keep you informed.
TI says that the OMAP is a processor that supports LINUX. So we know it can run linux, already, except if HTC has done something to make things very difficult.
(there is also RiscOS that can run on ARM9 devices... lol... )
Well, they say linux because the ARM9 core is supported by linux. The problem would lie in the fact this is a SOC (system on chip), the chip has many other system devices built into it. Now, and Joe Shmoe can go and write drivers for the internal circuits. TI doesn't want to give out the info needed to write these drivers unless you buy the chip. This chip isn't like any other chip you can go to Arrow.com and buy. I'm not that great of a coder, so I have to wait for the support to appear. I'm happy to it did, there may be hope for the EDGE modem...?
How do I beneficial?
Hi there,
May I know how do I beneficial (in terms of building a 2.6.2x kernel for OMAP850) from the following patch?

Hi! I'm a user of a QTEKS200, with Windows Mobile 5.0
And I find this new OS for SmarthPhone
http://www.openmoko.com/press/index.html
And I'm asking if somebody knows, how to boot this Linux Distribution on my S200.
If somebody know something, just tell in this forum!
You can't.
Since the hardware drivers for WM based devices like your S200 are part of the ROM image and tightly packed along with the OS, unless someone goes to the great trouble of reverse engineering them and recompiling for this new platform, there is no way your phone will run this OS.
Plus, from what I see on their site this is not a generic distribution, but like other embedded OSs a device specific version.

First, this distribution is not available. Second, the Prophet has omap850 CPU
which is a PITA to support with Linux because it is completely undocumented.
hello all,
didn't find anything usefull, so i decided to start this thread.
my question is: does there exist any kind of linux-os for the tytn?
for now, i've got a vario 2 running with schnap's 3.54 working great, but i'd like to have linux as the operating system
greetings from austria,
donatello
Hi there,
There is some work going on with porting linux to the Tytn, but as of yet there is no working solution.
Here is the link to the Linux port info on the wiki:

Maybe you can help out with the development if you're able?
Hi to all,
I've been following the progress of porting the current image of Android to the vogue, kaiser, blueangel etc
I am aware that Xanadux was ported to the Himalaya, and was able to boot.
Is it possible to somehow combine the work of Xanadux and the current Android image for use on our XDAs?
I have a spare, half broken Himalaya here ready and waiting to help test it if anybody can work out what to do!
Does anyone have an interest in helping me port Google Android to the Himalaya?
It is already ported to the Blue Angel which uses the same processor, and Android is already confirmed to run on any processor using the ARMv5TE chip, which ours do (the PXA263).
Previous kernal images have been made to run on our phones.
Any help?
Was the port from android 0.8? or 1.0? on the blue angel i mean.
Hi all,
do you know if there is any chance to install the new version of openmoko to the Uni? I know that there is one old distribution which is already ported on uni, but what about the newest distributions (Om2009)?
Thanks for the info..
