Omnia 7 got sluggish - Omnia 7 General

Omnia 7 16GB NODO
WP7 Bench for storage for 0.8MB chunks showed 4.3MB/s and 4.9MB/s on second test. It was blazing fast.
After month Omnia7 got sluggish. Now it shows storage efficiency at level of 3MB/s. It's obviously slower.
Any ideas? My Omnia7 still has 8.5GB free out of 15GB. Only few new apps were installed ans some photos and videos appeared. I also integrated with Facebook.
***UPDATE***
Cleared IE history, Bing history and maps history. Again 4.36GB/s and 4.9GB/s so cache is point here.
Sent from my OMNIA7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

I saw the same (well I wouldn't say the phone got sluggish, still very fast) but WP Bench results decreased deleting IE history got it back up to 4.9 then deleting maps history got it to 5.9 deleting bing history no difference

flash to run TT7? not sure what to do about mem allocation

Hi all.
I've been happily runnning Axel's last ROM since it came out, with no major issues, but just recently decided to install TomTom7 as an upgrade from TT6.
Whilst the app itself was far better, the lag following maps was unbearable. After some research, I've then disabled all but the most essential POIs, and then decided to try and free up some memory on my device (was running with around 26MB free in programs).
However, i then went on a little new software and update mission, (installing everything to the HDSC though), bar a couple of minor very small apps. I uninstalled my Kaiser Home screen and Dialer, updating to the latest B&W Home, and DxC iPhone DIaller 3.5e ("repeat call bug" fixed versions).
Now TomTom7 won't load (insufficient memory)!!
So, I've gone back and:
1. Uninstalled every program I could do without, and also uninstalled any existing programs listed in \Program Files and moved them to the SC.
2. Manually gone through the OS and removed left behind files and folders, and anything deemed not necessary.
3. Ran the (demo version) of SK Tools, clearing all caches etc., and also optimizing for memory.
4. Tried running without any home screen Plugins (i.e. blank start screen!)
4. Researched on here for HOURS trying to find some way to manually reallocate memory between Storage and Programs, as I have tons of Storage memory left!
5. Researched for ways to uninstall programs I may have installed to the Device originally, as uninstall only lists those installed to Storage. Is it possible at all??
After all this, I'm currently sitting after a soft reset, with:
Storage: Total 66.55 Use 30.30 Free 36.25
Programs: Total 48.97 Use 26.93 Free 22-24
I need to either
a. reallocate storage
b. uninstall things i may have accidentally installed to Device (have aready deleted \prog files folders)
c. flash to a completely new lite ROM and reinstall /setup everything
I really don't want to do the last one as in all other respects I'm happy with the device's performance, but if necessary, can someone recommend a very lite, stable WM 6.1 ROM (may as well upgrade to 6.1 if doing it), or as with everything MS does 6.1 eat more space..?
Any suggestions and thoughts on three options, and indeed on how TomTom7 is performing on their device welcome.
NB - my mini 4GB HCSD card is close to full - 160MB free - but surely this has no impact on working memory?
thanks for any responses, I must have spent at least 10 hours trawling through threads with no joy

didn't even know that TT7 is working on thr P3600...

After a softreset i have 28 mb free ram
but tomtom 7 needs only so max 10 mb free ram.
Deinstall tomtom 7 an remove all your tomtom files from the sd kart and the device (but not the map) do a softreste and install tomtom 7 again.
TT7 only needs 10MB free?!?
wow, thought it would be more than that (had tried finding out and couldn't get hold of the info). everyone seems to blaming slow responding maps on lack of memory...
will try removing TT7 as you say and reinstall - anyone know whether you can install the TT7 app to the card as well as the maps?

The best whatr you can do is to install tomtom 7 on the Device (it is faster) and the maps on the sd card.
it needs 12 mb on the device and max MAXXXXXXXX --> 10 MB free ram
cool - have already got it working from the SD card tonight after re-install (no idea why it was giving me an out of mem eror when working fine with less before). Will test tomorrow, then try moving it back to device if sluggish.
App isn't slow in general, just on the GPS keeping up with the map... maybe a Radio update and 6.1 will help anyway.
Thanks
TT7 works for me now...
test ok on latest karmba_a rom with western and central europe 7.20 maps...
didn't need to do something special about memory...works like a charm
Right, this just gets stranger...
Installed it again as mentioned above - worked for a couple of times then back to the
"Unable to start.
Not enough memory is available" error.
So, today I flashed the device witht he latest Radio and Tytn's STD rom, and reinstalled TT7 again.
Guess what? it worked for the forst few times again, and then back to the same old error!!!!
I've no idea what's going on here...
update
after re-flsahing again, I tried downloading the free map, and all seemed fine for a bit.
so i spent ages messing about getting my original maps working again, and added a few more progs, then... TT7 stopped working again with the not enough free memory error.
Now, fubby thing is, a game I installed wouldn't start with the same not enough memory error, only this one reported that it needed a minimum of 16MB to run. I'm currently showing between 22- 25MB free RAM on average, so it can't be that.
I'm now convinced that something in my phone is incorrectly reporting memory usage. Seeing as this error has occurred before and after flashing (new ROM, new radio), with two different programs now, does this mnean that it may be some odd hardware error?
I really need a techy expert on this one, maybe is there another more general tech forum where I might get a wider response? Any idea Mods?
thanks
Dom
I've the same problem
When I've installed the TOMTOM, it's worked for few times, but after inexplicably it's stopped working with the message ""Unable to start.
Not enough memory is available" error but I don't have idea of the causes.
you'll be pleased to know that this was an early symptom of my trinity dying... it started locking and frequently needing battery removal causing a factory reset, more and more often... to the point where it would reset twice a day.
I suspect faulty main memory
Ive seen this issue on my Trinity, as I recall it has something to do with favorites list, I removed it and let it rebuild it and it worked great. Ill go home and check it again. I have 7.450 (9028) TT, maps 720.1803 working on mine. I even was able to use my old fav list from TT6.0. I had to let it churn and work for almost 4-5 hours to come to the Warning screen, but Ive been looking for the 7.5 or 7.6 files to test my theories on the memory issue with it.

HD2 - Is there a memory problem

I have got a 02 HD2, I have been using it for a week now.
At the most I have had 300 texts on there
2 gmail accounts, no more than 100 emails
Exchange server syncing email contacts and notes, no more than 30 emails at any one time.
Imstalled programs:
Opera 10
newer version of google maps
The 2 HTC Hot Fix's
6 albums stored on the card
No more than 20 pictures and no videos
Everthing being going ok apart from few little bugs but I have generally really liked the phone until last night when i started to get insufficient memory warnings. I checked the memory and the phones storage was nearly empty (a few mb left) so i checked through and there wasnt anything stored on there that i could remove. I cleared the texts and emails but this made little difference.
Eventually I had no choice but to use the clear storage function which essentially reset the phone. So after all initial setup Im back to having about 50mb used a 150mb free.
This morning I have re installed most things, set the email accounts back up etc etc amd Im currently using about 78mb
So what exactly had taken the other 130mb up last night? is something not deleting cache files or something? how can I find out. If I cant work this out Im gonna have to return the phone while im still in the 14 day grace period. As I cant be bothered with having to go through all the re installs every week.
Any help would be much appreciated
Cheers
Jim
My first thoughts would be to move your music, email attachments and photos to the Micro SD. Then see how things go.
Hi,I wrote to HTC yesterday for that, all my files are in the storage card and memory program change every day without adding programs . They answered me to do an hard reset to solve the problem,or send my phone to repair if the problem will appear again . Good solution , like usually with them ...
Ah so this could well be a problem. What had you installed on yours? Nighthawk as i mentioned in the original post all the music was on the sd card and I checked all the user folders on the storage and they were all empty. there was nothing I could clear.
Will be gutted if i have to return the phone but glad Im still in the grace period.
All my software from my HD to my HD2. The difference is WM6.5 use more memory than wm6.1 . HTC should provide more memory on this model ...
I may have found the problem.
After reset and setting everything up again I had about 76mb of used storage. I have just been browsing some content rich sites over wifi and the used storage has gone upto 83mb. I have checked opera 9 and its cache limit is set to 4mb. Is something Leaking?
Jim
Marcdu81 Are you using a o2 HD2? im wondering if o2 have screwed up a setting.
NO it's an unbranded model bought in France .
ok so it should be widespread. isn't anyone else having this issue?
My storage disappears because of the cache for google maps (\Application Data\Google Maps\Cache) and htc albums (\Application Data\HTC\HTC Albums\Cache)...
I'd really like to move both directories to the memcard, but I don't how. can't find relevant registry setting...
EDIT: It's an unbranded HD2, WWE, bought in Belgium with the offical 1.48 ROM

There's already been another post concerning low storage here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=598974
The cache for things like HTC Album, Google maps, Youtube etc. are on the device taking up lots of space.
Cache for Opera can be moved to the Storage card but cache for HTC Album can not (at least, no one has found a solution for this yet).
You might try looking in \Application data\HTC\HTC Album\Cache and \Application data\GoogleMaps\Cache to see if it takes up lots of space.
My HTC Album cache is 30Mb !
Another post about the HTC Album cache is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=600578
cleaning the HTC Album cache I recovered 20Mb
I dont get why people aren't making more of a fuss about this, in my mind it renders what is an ace phone pretty useless.
I have read the other threads and it doesn't seem like there is any work around other than manually finding and deleting all the cache files. as I have only had the hd2 for a week, am i expected to do this weekly?
Is there any point contacting HTC about this?
I have got 24 hours to decide if it goes back to o2 leaving me with the only option of an iphone.
check this out, htc's album cache now in storage card

Phone Storage Memory

Hi,
I currently only have 4.98mb left of the 180.85mb total storage available on my device and am now getting 'critically low memory' warnings. I have not installed many apps or anything else to the phone and can't really understand why this is so high.
I had a look at the folders which are: -
Application Data 39.8mb
Documents and Settings 1.07mb
My Documents 2.77mb
Program Files 10.4mb
Windows - doesn't say but must be approx 115mb for the total to be correct? Is this normal?
Also, I have 115.06mb free of the 336.93mb total program memory available.
Is anyone else having similar issues? If the windows section is suppossed to use this high amount why has the phone not been allocated enough memory to deal with it?
Thanks
James
You should search a bit, but, empty the cache folder of HTCAlbum, Opera, etc.. in Application Data.
Thanks for the help. I have deleted the contects of the HTCalbum cache and Google maps and this has increased the available memory to 39.57mb.
Why should we have to delete cache data to be able to use our device? This seems a bit crap to me
Your memory usage is not normal- the HD2 has about 135MB free Storage Memory after a hard reset, so something has grabbed your memory somewhere.
I'd suggest downloading a small program called SpaceFinder which can give you a tree view of where the memory has gone sorted by folder size. It was designed for much older versions of WinMo but still works well. Some of the fiels it sees are in the ROM, but at least it will give you some clues.
Culprits for memory usage apart from the caches are music and video files- look in those folders to see if there's anything obvious.
Hello JJJJacksonjjjjj
Your problem is not new and has been reported many times on here.
If you look in the hints and tips thread in this forum there are a number of suggestions for clawing back memory space, which I suggest you implement.
Other thing is I bet you have been installing all of your apps onto the phome memory when you could have done so onto the storage card. If I am right then I would suggest you backup all your data using, say Sprite Backup or my preferred app which is SPB Backup, hard reset your phone and rebuild it from scratch, installing your apps carefully and onto the memory card instead.
Might sound a bit heavy handed but you will reap the benefits in the long run (If too drastic for you then deinstall and reinstall apps onto external memory instead without hard resetting).
I built my phone exactly this way from day one. Every app that gets installed gets assessed by me as to whether it needs to be in phone memory or not. If not then its straight onto the memory card (running an 8GB at the moment, waiting for the 32GB to come onstream and at at a reasonable price).
This, plus all the tips in the thread I mentioned earlier, have left me a happy bunny memory wise.
Good luck with it.
WB
Thanks guys, I am sorted now.
I downloaded spacefinder (really good program) and found out straight away that I had 30mb+ in Windows>Opera9>Profile>Download. I didn't know it kept all the downloaded cabs and pdfs etc you download (without saving), I thought these would be cleared when you exit Opera.
Also there were loads of facebook pictures in the temporary internet files of Internet Explorer! Why does it save all these?!
Anyway, I am now at 93.5mb free out of 180.85mb so all is good
Don't get me wrong I love my HD2 (and TP before) but HTC will never win over the mass market unless they sort out these kind of issues. Most people I know wouldn't have the first idea about all the messing about we have to do with these devices, and as a result they would have a sluggish, buggy device within weeks of normal use.
Without the help form you guys on XDA I would have probobly ditched the TP after a month or so, and I think I knew deep down I was being too hopeful, but I thought the HD2 would be free from the minor niggles I had with my TP.
That turned into a bit of a rant lol.
Thanks again guys.
...many problems are for cache of programs like htc album, opera, google maps...
...in this post there are many advice, and explain how to move the htc album cache to storage card
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=600578
...i have a good result with SKTOOLS program, because i had the same problem with the internal memory
good luck!

Glad you're sorted- despite its age, I still always load Spacefinder as one of my 1st apps. Only 72KB and does exactly what it says!
Don't blame HTC for these issues- it is down to both MS and the application developers like Opera to define whether & where they store stuff.
At least the HD2 has a fair amount of free space- unlike earlier devices which ground to a halt because of these stupid problems.
Spacefinder download link please gents (google is not turning up what I am looking for)?
Cheers

I am probably being a bit unfair to HTC, but a lot of the common issues most people seem to have are (as far as I can see) ones that HTC should sort - sms, pink camera etc (I didn't just mean the memory). How can they release a top line device with these issues and expect that users will check for and install fixes?
My point is that they are selling us a product; which they know things like Opera, the facebook app, HTC photo etc are integral to how it will be used by the consumer, so they should ensure these functions work reliably out of the box without user research and fixing.
I don't want to knock HTC (I wouldn't have any other device now), but there are always niggles that they should sort out before release

WMtorrent slows down everything

hi, my first post ever just got HTC Leo, flashed it and instlled arteus rom and sbp mobile shell. everything works like a dream, exept one program: wmtorrent.
whenever i launch wmtorrent my phone becomes unusable because everything is so slow. cant even open taskmanager sometimes.
is it because wmtorrent is installed on the SD-Card, or does everyone have this problem?
im not sure we can talk much about torrents on this site lol

Could be caused by several things. First of all - sbp shell - although nice, is a complete resource hog plus it will eat your battery quickly...so you might try getting rid of that.
Next I would take a look at all your configs in wmtorrent - make sure it's not making too many connections and such. And if you pulling down a lot of torrents at once that can cause an issue too. Anyway I'm using it on my t-mobile HD2 and no real issues here...
I had the same issue..
..and for me, it was simple: when you download something it gets stored on your device memory until it is complete, even though you are downloading it to your SD-card. Sadly, the HD2 have the worst internal memory in history so... good luck with that. You need free internal memory for your device to operate smoothly. I had 70MB internal memory left, and tried to download a file on 80MB, then I ended up with no free space on my device for it to work with.. but after some time lagging through it and deleting the download it was OK again.
The SD-card itself can be a problem, if it is huge, have a lot of files on it and it is a lower class SD-card. There are class 1-6 on them (it should say so on the card itself what class it is, 1 being slowest, 6 being fastest).

[Q] 2.2 update, slower phone and lack of internal storage issues

hi guys, after finally updating my vodafone legend to 2.2 all seemed well but then i started getting that annoying hardrive icon on the status bar.
it seems that my internal phone storage is constantly low, ive checked and its around 13mb.
I then went into my applications to see what was using the most memory and it turned out to be my contacts storage somehow using an incredible 88mb of my phones 100 or so mb of memory. i dont understand how this is the case as i dont have 1000's of contacts?
also, my phone now lags as a result but i assume thats because of low internal storage?
any help would be massively appreciated, thanks.
That seems weird. You might want to try a factory wipe/reset. I used Vodaphone's 2.2 upgrade and was really unhappy because of the storage and lag so I switched back to CM 6.1.
Best of luck!
any idea on the best ways of backing up my contacts and everything else in general basically?
Try titanium backup from the market for apps and settings.
The contacts can also exported to sd card in the standard contacts app.
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
