Hey All, I looked for my answer elsewhere on this board but couldn't find the answer.
I am trying to set my Xoom up at work with a Bluetooth Keyboard/Mouse and output the screen to my monitor. To simulate my current work environment. The monitor I have only has VGA or DVI inputs. The cable I have is Micro HDMI - HDMI. So I bought an HDMI - DVI converter. When I output to the monitor, the monitor resolution will not match the Xoom so I don't get the entire screen. I have to scroll up or down to get the entire screen. I verified that the monitor supports 1280 x 800 but for some reason when I plug the Xoom in it goes to 1280 x 720 (720P?). I am guessing somehow I need the monitor to be 1280x800 so it matches the Xoom? I don't see a manual configuration on the monitor to change that. It seems to auto-ajust depending on what is plugged in. So I guess my question is; Is the issue with the HDMI-DVI converter or is the issue the monitor? This is very problematic because I need to Remote Desktop into servers and/or workstations as a proof of concept.
The Xoom will chop off the bottom 80 pixels to get 1280x720 (native 720p resolution)

Yeah, I understand that (I assume the bottom 80 pixels are the task bar and such for android). That isn't quiet the issue. I think it is something to do with Pocketcloud application that I am using to RDP. When I set my PC resolution to 1280 x 720 and VNC into my machine the resolution is just fine (setting Pocketcloud to "Automatic Resolution". Doing the same for RDP it defaults to 1280x756 for some reason).
i want to say that 1280*800 and 1280*720 is similar with our eyes. so i think u don't need to care about such a litte gap.

If recording HD video on the Droid X... copying the file or transferring the file over to your computer... does that actually keep the file real HD?
I heard of a few other "HD" phones or flip-like devices that did not keep the HD when moving the files outside of the actual device.
Let me know what you all know.
(Still waiting for my Droid X to ship to me)
Yes, Export is 1280x720 wit frame rate of 23fps.
Audio is 96kbps/44hKz mono
Thank you.
You think they will allow or stereo audio with the device having 3 mics?
What about when you hook it up to a HD Tv? I was thinking about putting movies on the memory card and then watching it directly on the Tv... Will it work/look like HD?
Yup - the files are output over HDMI in 720P HD resolution. (It supports several resolutions) From what I've tried so far, you'll get the best results with MP4 videos encoded with .H264, with a resolution of 1280x720. (or close to that) I'm not sure what the bitrate is, but the files I encoded with handbrake are about 1 GB per hour of video. They look great on the phone and on widescreen TVs.
Note:
I also tried the HDMI output on a older 4:3 computer monitor over DVI (using a HDMI to DVI adapter). It does work - however, to match the video to the 4:3 aspect ratio, it lowers the resolution and puts black bars on the top and bottom. On a 16:9 TV or monitor, this does not happen.
Thank you... exactly what I wanted to know.
I'm looking at the A500 for a rather particular usage that my beloved iPad can't do... sob.
Has anyone tried to attach a RF or BT Kb and Mouse to the A500 and then used a RDP app and outputted it to an external screen?
I also want to be able to output the display at a half decent resolution... like 1280x1024? Or higher preferably. I've read that Honeycomb can only do 720p output atm.
Also, I'd like to know if any RDP app has managed to handle right-click yet?
I know long-click is being used but I'd prefer right click.
Basically, I just wanna go to work with a tablet. I already work on RDP all day long anyway.
I'm looking at the A500 in particular cos of the full size host USB (in case you're thinking, get the Asus Transformer and the dock... I don't like the Transformer cos the usb ports are on the dock).
Thanks.
no mouse functions yet on Iconia with usb or BT that I've been able to get to work. Don't know about RDP.
I know that the Archos 101 has full size usb and I've been able to hook up kb, mouse and usb drive to it through a powered hub (but not more than one storage device at a time.) Archos 101 is on Froyo and you should probably not take a firmware release later than 2.1.08 right now... the newer releases seem to have some issues. Also has mini hdmi out.
Just a word of caution. Some people have had problems with their usb ports. I've owned 3 of these and never had a problem.
check out forums on here for Archos 101 or check out forums.archosfans.com.
Again, don't know if it will work for your requirements or not.
edit: Archos screen not as good and has a lot less memory and slower processor than Acer. I still love mine for what I use it for.
I've used Wyse Pocket Cloud from my Acer Iconia to remote desktop into my work PC, but I've only used the virtual keyboard and mouse. I think the free version tops out at a 1024x768 remote desktop and that the $15 "Pro" version will let you define custom sizes and fullscreen, i.e. 1280x800 fullscreen and probably larger windowed versions.
You should be able to get a 720p output (1280x720, nearly full-screen of the tablet) through the microHDMI out, 1080p (1920x1080) out is scheduled for a later patch. HDMI is full mirror, not just pic/video (as I believe the iPad 1 is, although iPad2 should support full mirror display out.)
As best I know, right now Acer has said they'll have USB mouse support in a patch; USB keyboards should work, although the off-brand model I've tried so far didn't work in most apps.
I'm assuming this is what you're talking about in terms of RDP?
Yeah, basically, currently I use a 13" macbook pro and Remote Desktop onto my server and work. No probs.
But, I'd prefer just to take a tablet to work.
For that, I'd want a KB and Mouse and an external screen (cos 10" screen is too small).
I suppose outputting at 1280x720 isn't too bad since I'm used to 1280x800 (MBP screen resolution) but obviously, outputting to other resolutions would be nice... 1280x1024, 1920x1290, 1920x1080 etc. I'm guessing 1280x720 looks like a dog on most modern LCDs.
The best scenario is if I could sit at my desk, plug the hdmi into the screen and a BT KB and Mouse just syncs itself automatically.
I'm guessing android tablets can handle 8 hrs of RDP usage without needing charging so I won't even have to plug the thing in!
My current iPad 1 can only output 720 but I know that Jump RDP with iPad 2 has a host of resolutions above this. I'd get it if I thought that Apple would ever allow proper mouse support on iPad. No chance.
Can Xoom output at 1080p? Or is it a Honeycomb limitation till the summer patch? I understand Transformer is the same.
It's so annoying cos between the lot of them, I could get the perfect tablet:
iPad 2's multiple resolution output and general loveliness.
Iconia A500s full size host USB.
Transformer's decent mouse support (works pretty well I hear presumably because the dock thing has a touchpad on it... I'm guessing that's an Asus patch that's making it work, not honeycomb. If Transformer can emulate right click by using long click on the mouse, surely using right click for right click can't be far away!).
Android's ability to install a bittorrent client so I could download stuff directly to my tablet (legal movies of course!!!!!) and hook it up to my TV. 720p is more than enuf for video. Just prefer higher resolution output for work stuff.
If I could have all that in one tablet, I'd put my MBP away until Diablo 3 arrives.....
Just installed CM10 on my nexus q, but I would like to use it with a 720p tv we have in one of the bedrooms.. Anyone know how I can change the resultion from the default 1080 ?

My experience is that it will default to whatever the maximum resolution it detects when you turn it on with the HDMI connected.
Are you getting a cropped 1080p desktop on your 720p TV? One of my HDMI ports is busted on my TV and that cropping happened to me when I tried to connect my Q to the TV via an HDMI -> Component converter. Plugging it in direct to HDMI with the TV already on when I booted it fixed it for me
i am having a similar issue, all boxes are checked and it is situation normal, but it cuts off all edges, may swap HDMI ports later
Hi all,
Did anyone succeed already to make the Moverio BT-200 be monitor for a Windows 8 PC using Miracast?
This is what I tried already. Apologies for not adding the weblinks, but the forum rules won't allow.
1) The problem is that the BT-200 has a qHD resolution of 960 x 540 which is not supported by Windows 8. Therefore, I set the DownScaling bit to 1 in the registry. (Start Regedit, find all occurrences of Display1_DownScalingSupported and set the value(s) to 1).
2) I then started Miracast on Windows 8: go to right bottom corner, in the menu select "Devices" / select "Project" / click the dimmed "Add a wireless display".
3) On the BT-200 start a "Moverio mirror" session. It takes some synchronization effort to get the two devices see each other and get connected (have some patience while trying).
In the end I got the two connected, but I only get a black screen on the BT-200. When I try to configure the modes (right click on the desktop / choose "Screen Resolution / click "Advanced settings" / "Adapter" tab / "List all modes" button), the only mode shown is 1280 by 720 at 60 Hz.
Any way how I can fool the modes into a 960 x 540 configuration? Even better: how can I set up the Miracast connection as primary screen at startup?
Oh, and yes, I do have an Epson Wireless Mirroring Adapter, but it's not showing me the proper graphics either. for that reason I tried making the direct Miracast connection built-in into Windows 8.
Any pointer greatly appreciated.
Kind regards.
Hi,
I don't have any of these devices yet. But I am considering purchasing them. Just for screencasting what the user is seeing. I understand that it probably cant show the "augmented view". But, does the mirroring adapter sink function work ? Can I atleast see whatever is being cast to the user on a big screen using this adapter ?
Thanks.

Hi aaaku,
Yes, the mirroring adapter that is sold with the BT-200 works pretty well, but it's a clumsy device that very much limits the useability of the BT-200. While the BT-200 is battery operated, the Wireless Mirroring Adapter needs an adapter. Connecting it to a power bank works, but it uses quite some energy. Moreover the double interface (device to Mirroring Adapter, and then the Miracast connection between the Adapter and the BT-200) takes quite some time to set up properly. If you lose connection on the go, it's a guessing work where you lost the image or where a cable got disconnected. All-in-all it's not that smooth as you would like it (for me it turned out a showstopper even), and that's the reason why I wanted to Miracast from a Raspberry Pi directly to the BT-200.
As stated higher another issue is the not-quite-standard 960 x 540 resolution of the BT-200. Yes, it's possible to connect a Windows PC to the Wireless Mirroring Adapter, and then display the image on the BT-200. The BT-200 will even show a very clear image even. Since 960 x 540 is not recognized by Windows (or Linux, tried that too) it will display at a higher resolution, and the Mirroring Adapter will do the 960 x 540 translation. Read: some resolution is lost. It e.g. makes selecting menus and doing configurations under Windows 8 rather difficult as it's pretty hard to read the menus. For image viewing it works well, though. The image is bright and clear, and the display does what it promises.
Hi Guys,
i own a 2K-Monitor (ViewSonic VX3211-2K-MHD) which i want to use to stream YouTube, Netflix & Co.
Therefore today i bought a 4k Firestick - connected it without the flexible adapter (straight into HDMI) and installed all available updates.
Unfortunately i had to recognize that the max resolution i can choose is 1920x1080, also when i enter the Monitor-Menu it shows me the actual resolution, which is also 1920x1080.
Ive read a lot about this topic and the only reason for it - i guess so - is the well known HDMI Version-Thing.
My Monitor has HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.2 and HDCP 1.4 on board.
Now ive questions about this and hope you guys can give me a hint to solve my problem:
- Some users reported, that they had the same issue (max. 1920x1080 on a 2k tv/monitor) and solved it with an HDMI>DisplayPort Adapter, cause HDMI (or the specific HDMI-Version) was limiting to 1920x1080 and in some cases the DisplayPort had a newer Version.
In my case the DisplayPort has the version 1.2 which i fear would also limit the 4k FireStick. Does it make sense to try this adapter?
Can you confirm that my HDMI Version is limiting?
(EDIT: I connected my Computer/GTX970Phantom on it and WQHD worked without Problems - so why is the FireStick limiting?)
Can you refer a setup to get 2k running on my monitor for my (streaming) goals?
Can be software sided if it makes sense (rooting, etc.) or Hardware sided (Change the FireStick against other "Media-Boxes" or Hardware.)
Thank you,
E
