Search it up and you'll find answers. Do some half assed search and you're not helping anyone.

As far as I know there isn't any HD2 android rom that has 720p recording capabilities at 15 or 25 or 30 frames/sec. That is the only thing missing from making the phone wonderfull.
I looked for many threads and blogs to see is somebody has managed to do it.
Check this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11417869
They said : NOTE we are enabling HD 720 recording for you but currently it is only working @ about i think evo1rs said 1.5 frames a second ;/ but all the current modes that you have will work much smoother and better in quality then before. really really good work evo1rs ).
So not yet the quality that we want....and that is a sd rom not a nand.
I really hope that in the near future someone will figure this one out

Ok forum, the hd2 has gone long enough with its crappy VGA limited video recording. There is no need to ask if the hardware supports it because we all know it can. Contrary to popular beliefs hd2 owners must remember that the hd2 is a software sandwich. To the core it is using HTC SOFTWARE AND DRIVERS THEN AFTER THAT.....windows 6.whatever is placed to interact with the now easier to work with software to hardware communication enviorment (thanks to HTC ) and after that we have our nicely polished sense ui interface floating over it all.this is why going from a HTC sense shortcut to and HTC application is ALOT smoother than HTC sense to winmo (without a mask). Why am I telling you guys this? Because most hd2 users are unaware how this process even works. I did not create this thread to hear questions of "why can't we get this working on our hd2? D: I know blahblahblah phone that can ....." if you read enough threads you will see that is not what contributes to solving the answer. What does is trying your own experiments with solving the problem and reporting your method and experience with the thread you are concerned with.
Now that that's. Said, lets move on to our main topic. There are many presumed. Ways to go about trying to enable HD recording including redgistry editing, writing new applications, or where I am looking into, writing additional camera drivers. As of now it stands that there is no alternative camera application for the hd2 and I have a pretty good idea why. Any. App you. Download from the marketplace. Or wherever only needs the camera to take a picture of whatever so that it can utilize the file itself afterwards. There is nothing that involves the live use of the camera itself. This also gives you and idea of how this camera app sits within the software itself. To any chefs that may read this, next time your ROM cooking make a duplicate of your camera software and share it with this thread for users to experiment with(that's if you an isolate it with your kitchen). With that said, afterwards, those who are seriously looking into solving this problem should also get some driver knowledge under their belt. With this you can actually contribute by experimenting on your own with the camera software. Remember if you want a solution its best to tackle the problem yourself. It gets things done alot faster because you are not as reliant on OTHERS to come up with the next big thing.
This is communicate a lot of times in the past, no feedback/changes at this time
From what I've read, WM 6.5 doesn't support 720p video recording. The only way forward for 720p on the HD2 is WM7 or Android. For now, Android is the closest... there are several Android ports available already and video recording is already working up to 800x480.
1080p would be better..... haha, why not 1080p? ur all hopeless lol
wow OP, such a well thought out post, and then posted in the wrong forum!!!
I am of the impression that if 720p recording was possible on the hd2, the great developers of xda would have done it by now.

It's true but if the hd2 was an android phone 720p recording would be no problems cause they have the drivers for that. Windows mobile doesn't support that resolution but android or windows phone 7 do. It's all about the drivers there is no driver for windows mobile 6.5 that includes that feature. This feature is all up to windows to support not htc.
Sadly this is an illusion winmo can't support it. The device can play back 720p videos. And it is capable of recording as well. The way this works is that winmo simply is a mediator between your files and digital interaction with the hardware. It controls what is on and what is off however is NOT responsible. For intaking data from the camera device itself. That is where the difference lies between a device like the Neo touch and the hd2(as far as playback is concerned) but like I said beforehand, it all comes down to editing the camera application Itself. As for ..720p on android builds, you need to remember that these are essentially roms. From other devices ducktaped by Linux on the device. Its the equivalents of cutting an oak down to the exact size of an apple tree but you may never get apples from it nomatter how identical it looks. Granted there are still improvements. To be made but as it stands 720p recording still needs more looking in to by both our current developers and those to be aka YOU GUYS. so time to crack open your programming Theory books.....

impossible?
720p recording needs to be developed From my point of view it's only matter of software that will provide this function. Many times I saw that miracles tend to happen in xda forum so I'm very optimistic of this topic. I think that it's right topic, because a lot of people look here for new roms, so the answer will come more quickly what is cotulla's opinion?
there is more information about 720p camera recording
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719315&highlight=720p
Yes I know that threads purpose was moved here in a more focused manner of enabling the stock hd2 not android. If you can see I've already tagged the thread up and and as for cotulla, he is very busy with yet another ground breaking project of running windows mobile 7 on the hd2. It would be great if we had his support however there are times in life we have to figure things out without an XDA legend holding our hands.

Wrong, here is why: when you go to home depot and buy a washing machine, can you carry it home? Not unless your Superman. You need a strong truck that can carry it for you. Winmo can't handle 720p files by itself, that's where HTC drivers and a 1ghz processor compensate. On the device itself winmo just has to know what goes where and "how to drive the truck"

nice,I like it very.try it now.
Is this safe? I don't trust builds unless they're released by someone on here....
Whats with the android.cab? What do you do with that and whats it for?

I believe the android.cab is like an autoboot from winmo (I personally didn't install it) for those that may not have one. As for the rest of the rom, well I understand your caution, but as with anything, no one is forcing you to install it. There is an inherent risk with ANY rom on this forum. Using caution is wise, so what I did is I compared the files to other roms I have used and saw that they matched up, I have installed it (with the attached 2gb image), it's running now, you have to select the English language, unless you understand either of the other 2 Chinese languages available. From there the setup was the same as the other HD roms. Testing it now, will report results later. So far so good...
Hi, have you asked about GPC before posting this?
OMG the camera quality compared to all other builds i used before is AMAZING !
After turning off the handwriting in options i think it is my new daily Android.
And the camcorder seems to record in 720p but we are not able to playback...
great build..but data icon dont animate..

I concure about to put it through its passes. i decided to test this build just for the 720P recording...wanted to see if it was indeed working. and for sure it is. as well the cam pic quality is very good. have not tested sound quality as of yet. waiting for the build to do a full update from the market before i start really testing it out...first impressions are good...will report back later today after more use.
Just tried this build and it's looking VERY promising. i tried the other Desire HD build with the camera fix but the camcorder still wasn't working on it and for some reason every time i tried to get into the market it would force close. as for the android cab..yeah,i wasn't sure what that was so i just thru it into the android folder along with the media folder.i tried the camcorder and it's working.it also played back my video. i know some were sayn that they didn't have playback on their camcorder. i may not go back to any other android build. i think i found my holly grail of android builds !
Just to clarify, this can record at 1280x720 but can't play it back?
THIS IS FOR WM 720p -NOT ANDROID 720p recording.
So it seems DFT has done it again, another great movement foward for the hd2, however users are still left without hd recording still. not that i expect dft to enable it (even though im sure they could figure it out) but i would like to hear some of your guys ideas in getting this great piece of machinery to record in hd. this thread is more for getting the community involved in development instead of you guys simply "leeching" (no offence). XDA is a very respected site and it would be a shame to have members only here to get the new coolest dohicky for their smart phone. dont forget, its called a community....SO LEARN HOW TO CONTRIBUTE
Personally i have been working on enabling 720p Rec. for a few months but sometimes 2 or more heads are better than one. if you want to know details reguarding my methods you can PM me but essentially i have been trying to tweak reg values to support higher res h.264 videos and/or creating or allocating the correct dlls for video capture-(trying to modify some of the OEM drivers).any help would be greatly appreciated. again, keep in mind this is windows mobile and does not do anything for android builds for now(for you not so sharp ones).
if anyone is intrested in testing AND sharing ideas please comment. other than that lets try to keep the sensless banter to a min.
so i have the HD2 and i am running WM6.5 i am on t-mobile as well.
i have tried to read as many threads as i can. and i am serious looking at doing this. but i need to figure out what some of the things are in the how to's, but that is for a later time.
what i am wondering. does everything work when you dule boot in droid on an SD card.
can i still Tether?
are there functions of the phone that dont work?
can i go back if i had to or is this a one way deal?
do the five buttons do anything once you go droid?
just wondering what if any problems happen when you do this right.
thanks
Everything works....except 720 video recording. Video camera camera quality is still really good though. If you boot from SD you can get back to Wm by simply rebooting. All data is saved on your sdcard.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
tethering depends on the rom you install
some builds dont have a working camera otherwise it nearly all works
yes you can go back
yes the hardware buttons still work and are functioning
so which versions of Rom do support tethering
If i were you,i wouldn't hesitate and install Android NAND build. Most of them support tethering and work perfectly fast and stable

which rom support 720p video recording?
so far none i think (correct me if i'm wrong)
but the devs are working on it and i guess it wont be very long until it'll work
Just start with the NAND built, you won't regret it.
Just look out for certain roms and their kernels, some hace a VERY high battery drain
So I am not usually the guy to post new threads. Most everything I need I can find already. But after I was video recording my son at the park today and missed yet another video due to FC issues I guess it's time to finally ask. I have had my HD2 running some android rom or another for almost 2 years. I presently have CM7 Tytung v 3.8.5-MAGLDR. The reason I am asking this here and not in that thread is because it has always been an issue regardless of the ROM I am running at the time. The video recorder force closes. It's that simple. It works intermittently and then it will inevitably force close and can not be re-opened. The only fix is to reboot the phone. I have tried about every camera/video app in the Play store. I have flashed different cameras. My wife also has an HD2 Tmobile the exact phone as me and has the exact same issue as me. The video recorder force closes. I have to wonder if I am just missing something simple? Is there an app or something to flash differently? I recently had WP7 on my HD2 and the camera was AWESOME ! WP7 just doesn't do what Droid does.I am open to suggestions. Is this a known issue I am just forced to deal with on my HD2? How can I make my Iphone buddies stop laughing at my force closing Android HD2?

Youre not alone, same thing happens to me :/ no matter the ROM, i remember reading a thread about it but what i read didnt really help. It said something about not using the fix because most newer ROMs have the fix installed. So i didnt bother downloading it and cant find the thread anymore. Im gonna go look fo rit. hope others can help us both!
I found this earlier today here on the XDA site "props to whomever it came from " I just did a random search and found it. I was using my phone so I'm not sure the page exactly. Never the less I unistalled the stock camera via Titanium Backup and flashed this through CM Recovery. It has a video feature and a decent camera interface. So far no lock ups. Only this afternoon though. Time will tell. I've been running test to try and fool it. Using lots of memory, taking multiple shots switching back and forth, rebooting etc. So far its worked. Try it out, lemme know if it works.
Well, I had been using a CM7 Nightly neared build with a few mods that jar never failed me with camera and camcorder- it was so dependable that I have it on my old, some-hard-keys-dont-work HD2 because am using ICS primarily nowadays.
I'll post what changes I make later, and can post the ROM itself here if anyone wants to try...

<OT> Whoa bro! Go eay on smilies and ......... - it makes your post pretty hard to read, especially on the XDA app!</OT>
*Update* So after almost two years of agony I may have finally found a fix. The .zip file I posted earlier has worked so far. I fooled around with it all day yesterday and last night as well as this morning. I tried everything I know to make it crash from running multiple apps, opening a camera during a call, playing music then opening the camera etc. Rebooted a couple of times. Still not crash. I'll keep posting here with status updates. I found this yesterday on the XDA site. I just did a Google search. I am not sure who originaly posted this .zip file. If it continues to work I will give them a hug
