3mb partition when mounting usb storage in CWM - Xoom General

I need this space to put the 3.1 update zip

Is there a question of some kind? This thread confuses me.

i need a solution

just put in an micro sd card, then mount the card

I have the same Problem ... I put a 128 MB micro SD-Card to my xoom and the xoom does not recognize the card. Then I formatted the sdcard and the xoom shows me, that i have a 3mb card ...

if the thing is showing you 3 mb, then use a sd card reader to put the microsd in your computer and use Windows/Mac/Linux to format it back to 128 mb. From there, just use the file manager (i.e. Windows Explorer) to chuck your updates in there, plug the sucker in, and then reboot into recovery. Make sure you have the recovery 3.2.0.0 r4c from solarnz in the dev section.
Make sure you plug in the microsd card before you boot into recovery! otherwise, it won't see it (like it did for me 100 times) >.<
And as much as you can try to mount the internal SD from your xoom to the computer and reformat it, you'll always end up with 3 MB. ._. stupid thing.
let me know how that works out for you! oh, and if i got any details wrong, please do fix me >.< I am new to the whole tablet/xoom scene, so im learning about the different quirks, like this stupid SD problem which shouldn't have existed in the first place >=[

[Q] Sd issues. a500 not recognizing sd card

Hi all. I have a stock a500 with 3.1. Not rooted. I put in the 16gb SD card with files in it and I don't get any indication of the card in the bottom right corner. My phone however will recognize it and the files that are on it. Any suggestions? Ty for any replies
"Try unplugging it, and plugging it in again" - Mistabishi 'Printer Jam'.
What FS is the card formatted to? Have you tried any other card that is known to work? Also, try formatting the SD as FAT32 again from the phone.
I am having the SAME issue on my acer. It wont recognize my 16gb sandisk card. I tried formatting as described and I tried another card. Both are showing up in my HTC inspire but nothing on the acer. Whats the deal? When I go to storage in settings- the external SD total space is recognized but it is not allowing me to access it for storage using app2sd?
this SD card worked just fine on the transformer I took it out of.

Are you even able to see the SD card? check /mnt/sd-external to see if it shows up. If it's there, create a directory, then delete it. Also, check the ".android-secure" hidden directory that should be on the SD card after using app2sd. If the permissions are not set correctly, you won't be able to use app2sd with it (reason for create/delete of the directory). Sidenote, I've seen quite a few apps named app2sd, some of them listed are showing up on my end as non-working with the A500 where others listed should work fine.

Still, that does not give me anything to go on. Did you format the card again? Is the card formatted in FAT32? Have you tried formatting the card from your computer using a card reader? I've had SD cards not show up before, reformatting them correctly solved the issue each time. If you don't know what filesystem the card is formatted with, grab a LiveCD with gparted on it (almost any gnome distribution) and I can help you from there. I haven't used Windows since XP SP2 was first released (FCKGW-... if you know what I mean) and I have refused to touch anything Apple since the IIe. Hence the signature.
formatting
Not sure what format they are in. I used a thunderbolt to for mate and a fsscinate and neither were visible. I'll go check what you recommended above though.
What are you guys talking about?
To the OP: You won't have any indication at the bottom. That feature doesn't exist on our devices (but some custom roms based on xoom and ?ASUS? have it). Just check the System screen to see if it finds your sd or simply make a photo from your camera (just set it to save the pictures to your SD). Or use a program and check /mnt/external-sd
To da9b16: a2sd won't work on this device (besides it has enough internal memory).
You'll only be able to access SD directly from your internal memory if you root the device and use a program that creates a symlink from /mnt/external-sd to /sdcard (USB Mount All does this but it's not free) or if you simply navigate to /mnt/external-sd with a file explorer.
I hope that this clears some confusion.

hey i have a similar problem , when i put my SD card does recognize but the apps like photo gallery or play music wont read any file from my SD card what can i do

CWM wont show SD card contents...

So I rooted this stupid tablet and put the custom acer recovery app or whatever it is on it. Installed the proper CWM, and when I boot into recovery and try into install zip from SD card all it shows is "Lost.dir". Nothing else. What am I doing wrong?? The ROM/Kernel I want are on the root of my sd card, why isn't it showing up?
Because the tablet isn't stupid it knows exactly where the files should go but you didn't put them there? You just put your files into a wrong directory namely your internal storage.
/sdcard/ = internal storage which isn't used by CWM
/mnt/external_sd/ = SD card which is accessed by CWM
EDIT:
And in case you're looking for USB... The tablet mounts it under /mnt/usb_storage

Files can also be put on a USB flash drive and CWM will see them there also

Take your time and have patience. I know the feeling. How are you transferring the data to the micro SD card? Can you use a file manager app to access the card, /mnt/external_sd?

Again over and over ..try another SD card maybe two this is a very common issue.very common
Try diffrent SD cards if you have not
Or use a USB drive and flash from there. I do it all the time if I'm to lazy to copy the files to my SD card.
I am also stumped with the the acer reading the micro sd card. I am able to see it using root explorer. However, I cant see it when it is connected to my computer. I had to place my sd card in my galaxy tab in order to transfer files to it, and then place it in the iconia. That appeared to be the only way to put the rom on the root of my sd card. I want to save my stock back up to my computer in case I damage my sd card, but there seems to be no way to do it with out removing the card and placing it in another device. Am I missing something? Dont want to start another thread, so I'm asking here because it looks like it's been seen by other users.

FYI ( just in case ) !!!
When fully booted... SD CARD is the internal storage... and the physical card is shown as EXTERNAL SD CARD !
When at CWM recovery... SD CARD is the real physical card !
again KNOWN ISSUE

[Q] Creating bootable SD card size issue

Hi all,
It seems that I'm having a bit trouble with writing the image to my SD card. I'm using a 16GB currently with Honeycomb on it, but after the image finished writing, my card size is reduced to 105MB free out of 150MBish. I tried to get the CM7 boot to work on a 2GB card, after the "generic" img finished writing on the card, it gets the same free 105MB, and I can't copy the CM7 files onto the card because those files are 115MB total.
I tried partitioning the card but it's still the same, and the computer isn't able to see the second partition that's not the main one. Is anyone having this issue and/or know how I can fix it? Much appreciated.
Cheers,

Very much a known issue... to work around this:
1. Write the image to SD
2. Resize boot partition (only one on it so far) to anything up to 2 GB.. I recommend keeping it less than 2 GB for compatability
3. Put your ROM on the boot partition
4. Put SD in nook and boot it up
Hey thanks!
So for some reason I was able to follow this post and root my Nook http://www.informationweek.com/byte/howto/231002060
I used the 2GB card again and this time after writing the image to it I still have 1.75ishGB left and the file didn't take up the whole card like it did previously. Was able to boot up CWM and flash CM7.
But I'm running into another problem, which is my 16GB card, no matter how I format it, the Nook would not recognize that it's mounted. And when it does show up in the system, it only sees about 1.5GB, and the card is completely empty. I'm really stuck here, is this another known problem?

What are you using to format it? What format, FAT32? What was on it before? What shows up when in a reader on your PC?
I used EASEUS and also just window to format the card. It's in FAT32 and my PC sees it as a removable storage device just fine, all 14.5GB of it.
LOL
Honestly, the OP does drive me nut
I want to help but I can't follow what he said.
16GB SD, 2GB SD, what?
If you, OP, still need help, then pls clearly indicate what your problem is and what you intend to accomplish.

EASEUS does help a lot (ext4) but I would then suggest never using Windows to format a uSD. This works much better IMO to get a good format.

Micro SD doesn't mount correctly

Hello. There is one thing that doesn't really work well by me: if I plug the phone (usb) and choose the mobile archive function, windows 7 detects 2 thing:
- space volume of 12 GB (the phone?)
- MICROSD32 (the name i used when i formatted it), which is 32 GB
The problem is that not the whole microsd is mounted: from the file browser on the phone, I can see that the micro sd is there, and then there is a folder named 'external_sd', and THAT folder is the folder that is been mounted on windows.
This doesn't allow me to read/write data files on the sd (application files, savegames, and so on)....because it doesn't mount that part of the micro sd.
Is there a way to fix this? I am always forced to copy/cut/paste things from the phone file browser...to get to the micro sd root...
And BTW i have root access now. if that can make a difference with this.
I just noticed that I am wrong, and BOTH volumes belong to the same micro sd....the mobile storage 12GB is the root of the microsd, while the other 32 GB volume....is also the microsd....but the external-sd folder....why this partitioning?????
external_sd is where your 32 giga micro sd should be mounted, if you're browsing from the phone.
You should have checked the option 'usb debugging ' in menu/applications/development'. Then connect the phone to pc and you should see the both internal and external storage.

It doesn't happen. I have usb debugging, but it mounts the micro sd as two volumes : 12 GB and 32 GB...which is impossible.
Also browsing from the phone, the mircrosd (sdcard) has an internal folder named 'external_sd'....weird.
Maybe I should reformat the card from the phone? I formatted from the computer before putting it in the phone...but it was completely empty.

NC Rooted running Cm7.1 can't read SD card

The other night I got a NC with 3.1 and decided to root it and flash cm7 onto it. This all was going fine until after the rom flashed and I booted up the device I have micro SDCard 2GB in the NC and it isn't able to read the SD card it says I need to put one in. Every time I go to download something off the browser it says I need an SD card to download this so and so file. I used my phone SD card in the NC to see if that will work and same problem persists. I have .apk files on my SD card I would like to run on the NC but can't get them off the SD card. This NC belongs to my brother who I was trying to help out by rooting and putting cm7 on it for him but now there's really nothing he can do with it any and all help is welcome. If someone knows how to fix this please tell me. (When I plug it into the computer it still can't read the files on the NC. Even if I mount SD card or USB storage through recovery) please help

Try plugging in the SD card by itself to your PC to see if it got corrupted, and if it hasn't you can transfer your files, format it and give it another go. I hope that helps.
Yep. Sounds like a card corruption problem. I had one. Reformat was the only solution. Be prepared to sacrifice your apks. And always drop spare copies onto your computer, just in case.
