I am unable to boot into recovery mode to upgrade to CM 7.0.3 – unit just powers off. I would prefer to upgrade rather than start from scratch
1. On SD card
2. Initial install via generic-sdcard-v1.1.img
3. Original update-cm-7.0.0-encore-signed.zip
4. Currently running update-cm-7.0.2-encore-signed.zip updated via boot into recovery
5. Running Dalingrin’s OC from 4/4/11
6. Updated NookCol to 1.2 via boot into recover
7. 16G Wintech class 10 or 16G PNY class 4: both fail
8. Could not do initial install (7.0.0) on 16 G cards – had to use Kingston 2G class 2; have transferred that image to the 16G cards and expanded the 4th partition to utilize the full 16G cards
9. Have added j4mm3r multi-boot files / process to eliminate timing issues to get into recovery mode – still powers off
10. ‘Touch the Future of Reading’ is the boot message with the 7.0.2 card in
11. I’ve attempted to work with the files verygreen posted yesterday (update-genimage-1.2.zip) but without getting into recovery mode that’s not working for me.
Reviewing all the threads I have been unable to determine next steps. I believe a comment verygreen posted pertains to my problem, but don’t know what to do with it: (Post # 156: The stock 1.2 u-boot should be working fine, btw, but it cnnot find "BCB" and decides to power off instead.)
I also tried going back to the 2G card – but the image I use is now 16G even after I shrink the partition, so that fails.
Any suggestions on next steps would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi everybody,
I have a serious problem with my Ideos x5 (U8800). I tried to upgrade to the Aurora ICS ROM and bricked my phone. Some quick info:
- I have the Gingerbread update on my PC (dload/UPDATE.APP)
- I can't boot into recovery mode
- I can't access my sdcard
- I can boot into pink-screen mode
- Phone keeps rebooting itself when I try recovery mode
- Tried replacing boot.img and recovery.img with original files
- Before it started to reboot itself I tried recovery in CWM
I downloaded the Android SDK, but I have no idea what to do with it.
[EDIT] Ok, so I tried rebooting the phone with adb but it fails to recognize my device when I use "adb devices".
If anyone can help me get SOME kind of ROM installed, I would love you forever. I might even throw in some cash. I can't afford a new phone
Sincerely,
You need some micro sd reader/writer.
1. Format sdcard
2. Put dload folder witch contains GB update to root of sdcard
3. Take battery out
4. Plug usb in
5. Boot and press both volume keys while booting phone.
6. Update should start

Thanks for the answer.
I was thinking something like that myself.. I'll get a sd-reader tomorrow and get back here if it worked out or not.
[EDIT] Yep, as I suspected. It worked really good. A big thank you, fine sir!
Mods could delete thread or keep it for future reference for others.
Hey guys
I'm a happy owner of a new Iconia A500 bought from Amazon . It isn't brand-new but new-enough-for-me lol. It seems it was updated by OTA or something because it has Android ICS 4.0.3 on it.
Tech info:
Model: A500
Android version: 4.0.3
Kernel version: 2.6.39.4+
Image version: Acer_AV041_A500_RV05RC01_PA_CUS1
Compilation version: Acer_AV041_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUS1
Image part number: FM.S14A0.00Y
I read a lot and noticed there's a lot of info but it isn't very organized. I see there is CWM and TWRP, there are stock ROMs, ICS and JB and maybe a linux or two out there, but the instructions on using them aren't very clear.
I know I have to back up my SBK because it's something important. Thing is, how to?
Actually, in the case of a brand new Iconia which I want to get JB/any-other-custom-rom on it and have the possibility to go back to stock in case I screw up (or in other words, how to avoid a brick or how to recover from one if possible), what would I have to do?
In other words, what would be the steps I'll have to follow in order to play safe and backup my current state so I can start flashing custom ROMs like custom JB/ICS and kernels? what do I have to read and in what order? I already have experience in flashing & cooking ROMs, recoveries & bootloaders for HTC Magic, Motorola Defy and MT6577 devices, but this whole nvidia environment is new to me.
Thanks in advance!

DARKGuy,
I just recently took the plunge and experimented with various ROMs. The link below pretty much details all the required steps and links to files:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425
Remember proceed at your own risk !!. Before doing anything, backup any items (docs, mp3, books, pics, etc) you want saved.
DOWNLOAD ALL FILES BEFORE STARTING !
Practice placing the A500 into Recovery Mode ( PWR + (-) Vol key) and APX Mode (PWR + Reset button (paper clip needed)). You need a micro SD card installed to perform the upgrade.
Download the latest USB drivers from ACER (1.00.0524) and install into PC. Verify they work in both USB drive mode and APX mode. Make sure tablet has USB Debugging enabled (Settings). Verify the drivers work. Boot tablet normal and connect to PC, you should see Acer Tablet with SD drive and External SD drive (if micro SD installed). Files\folders should be viewable. Turn table off, then restart into APX mode. You should see new hardware found, ADB driver. You shouldn't see any errors in device manager. If everything is working fine, you're ready to proceed.
Basic Steps:
1) Get CPU ID. I used File Explores ES app. Folder Local\Sys\Firmware\Fuse and the file is acer_cpu_id. Text file. Remember to add a zero in the beggining. ie mine started 33c20c.... My CPU ID is 033c20c....etc, Write it down.
2) Download the tool and generate your SBK with the CPU ID. Write it down. It's 4 sets of numbers, ie 0x520A1300 0x78498901 etc.
3) Root device. Here' the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546593.
4) Install bootloader and recovery rom. I used Blackthund3r APX tool. Option 17, ShirlaxCZ V8 Bootloader and Thors 1.7.3 recovery tool.
Once this have been completed, successfully. You can download any JB\ICS you'd like to load. Just boot into recovery and load from SD card.
I would also download a stock image in case you want to go back.

Hi Guys,
I am attempting to downgrade a Lenovo Yoga 3 8 "YT3-850F to an earlier firmware in an attempt to remove the frp lock on a Lenovo that upgraded to Marshmellow 6.0.1 and is now locked out. My friends son didn't keep his Google login details and after a factory reset this Lenovo is locked.
I've downloaded the 5.1 version via the Lenovo forums which apparently works YT3-850F_USR_S000025_1510160911_Q1241_ROW_factory_update.zip but when I try and install in via sd card I get the Android man flashing between black screen and the android man but the flash does not seem to happen.
I am getting an error when flashing:
finding update package
opening update package
e:failed to mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p1
e:remount block devices
e:failed to mount /sdcard
I'm not sure if this is a red herring as I don't always get the message but when I hold the volume up key and the power button the tab goes straight into flash mode and not the recovery screen. Also the only way out is to eject the sd card and then the recovery screen reappears and this is when I sometimes can see the message.
I have tried different sd cards and refomatted them in different ways ie windows, android, minitools etc.
Should I attempt to flash the rom via abd? Can I do this on a tablet that is locked with frp?
Any help gratefully appreciated
Al
I've been looking into further ways of installing the rom.
When I boot into recovery mode there is the option to update via abd.
When I select this option I can see the Tablet when I select adb devices in the command window.
Would this option allow me to install the YT3-850F_USR_S000025_1510160911_Q1241_ROW_factory_update.zip firmware or would it brick the device as it is currently on MM6.0.1?
cheers
Al
Update: Finally got it sorted.
The sd cards that I was using where either too large 8gb and 16gb or hi speed (not sure which)
Out of desperation I gave it one further attempt with an old 2gb sd card and it flashed
The next problem I had was it was taking an update immediately to 0027 and this was preventing me from doing the frp bypass.
I re-flashed 0025 and immediately after connecting to the internet I disconnected the lead but reconnected at times to allow me into Settings and enable developer mode and usb debugging. Once this was complete it started 0027 and allowed me to setup a new google account.
I hope this helps future people who are in the same boat.
Al
Guide for this procedure, please.

How is it going man, I know it has been a year since your post. However, would you be so kind of posting the procedure you followed, also could you upload the firmware, please.
I know is too much to ask, but I was not able to find a solution on how to downgrade.
If for some reason it doesn't work, then try to create an emergency scdard from an identical model with identical firmware version as your broken one, root it by eng-boot, read out the first 1GB of the "sda" partition, write the dump to a fast class U1/U10 32GB sdcard using Win32Disk, insert the card into the sdcard slot and power it up while holding Vol Down + Home + Power. If everything was done correctly, the phone should boot into download mode, then just flash the latest full stock to fix it.

That would be better if you explain more detailed how to read and write the dump file and what to do with these .bin files that you have uploaded here. I'm facing the same problem

OMG thank you
Hi
I have a different model which is G930R4 of US Cellular
Can I use your files to fix this phone or it wont work?
I don't have similar model to create the backup file
appreciate for your support
hi ,
possible the file work on a Bit8 G930a ?
Im an Idiot. I went to twrp recovery and wiped everything, since I wanted to install a higher version of the Samsung tab e, and even when twrp told me that there was no OS installed, I rebooted anyways. I was new to this all thing, and had no idea what exactly that meant and thought, 'What could go wrong?' . . . I just wanted a higher device model, man.
Ugh. Now im stuck in the 'Powered by Android' logo screen, and cant boot into recovery or Download mode.
- What's even worse was that I didn't even enable USB Debugging so Adb is out.
- However, it is Rooted, if that even helps.
- Trying to use the Samsung 300k tool to force enter download mode ends up with 'Write file function failed (error 995)'
- My sibling has the same device model as me, but using T Flash via Odin and my 32GB micro SD card doesn't have a reaction to my device. (Or maybe im doing it wrong, since I don't see anything in the sd card when I plug it to the computer)
- Tablet gets recognized via Odin and Computer, but only as 'MTP USB Device', and in Devices, it is in Unspecified as 'Samsung Android'
- Only good thing that came out of this was the info that I had obtained over the past few days that has shocked my siblings as to why I have this much knowledge over Samsung devices and its functions (AKA I feel cool)
But honestly, at this point I am at a loss of what to do, and will not be surprised if I have to get a USB jig to force it to download mode (my only other option left), or take it to a service center to get it fixed. (the other option I have)
But if there is something you guys are aware of, that I had not tried yet, Please guide me.
Anybody?

The simplest way to get an operating system again is to put the ZIP file on a working MicroSD card and put it in your tablet, Then boot into the boot loader and choose to install the file by choosing the external micro sd card.
If you're stuck on a boot screen or download, get out of it by holding the power key + volume down, until the tablet resets.
Note for the future:
always backup your device to an external MicroSD card before deleting your existing operating system, or installing a new one.
