Hey Guys,
OK, before I go further, I got to admit, I messed up.
I found this gtalk file (attached) and tried to install it with the following code via adb:
adb remount
adb shell mv /system/app/Talk.apk /system/app/Talk.apk1
adb uninstall com.google.android.talk
adb push libtalk_jni.so /system/lib/
adb push Talk2.apk /system/app
It got copied, but it doesn't show up in the menu or listed apps. Now I've lost (though not technically) the old Gtalk and the new one ain't working either.
Could someone help me out please?
Even if not to get the new one working, I'd be happy if I could get the old one back.
Cheers,
Maddy
adb shell mv /system/app/Talk.apk1 /system/app/Talk.apk
adb install com.google.android.talk
Thanks mate...I just did that and got back the old Gtalk app. Wondering if there is no way to install the new Gtalk app 2.3.4, the one that has Video and Voice chat facility...
Cheers
try this http://android.modaco.com/content/software/339390/r1-12-may-google-video-talk-installer/ mate.
Thanks a bunch Nimche, it worked. YOU ROCK!!! Really appreciate the help.
Cheers,
M
Nimche: So it got installed properly and i could see the icons for video and voice chat...however, every time i try to start a voice chat, i could hear the other person but the person on the other end cannot hear me...and yes, the phone is not muted while in conversation...
Do you reckon it could be because of the file that may have been made for another device?
I suppose it is not enabling the voice channel circuit..
Any thoughts?

I had asked this before but wasn't sure it could be done. Well now its been done for the EVO can someone please do this for the vibrant. This has become even more important to me now that vlingo is free.
Link to swype with voice for evo

Can that not work on our phone as well, its the beta that determines what phone you have.... PM the guy who made the edits and ask. I would think it would work fine.
I have tried installing it directly as an apk and the install fails. I have also tried renaming and copying over the current skype and this has no effect, aka the keyboard for skype remains unchanged.
I also went as far as to try the original droid x file with the above two methods and had the same results.
Apparently there are some dependencies or other files involved.
Anyone have any ideas?
If I'm not mistaken you are supposed to flash via recovery. I spent like 3 minutes looking at that thread.
Thanks I missed that as was working with the origonal apk file posted. Trying the zip now
Keep us updated, that looks awesome
Ok ran and installed the zip file and no change. No errors but same as when I copied over the skype file manually. The skype keyboard is unchanged. In my case still the grey smoke colored version from eugene's vibrant4 build.
Anymore ideas? I would really love to get this working but do not know enough to reverse engineer what was done.

It would be nice if they shared what they did so we could try to reproduce it. I would love this mod combined with vlingo now that it's free, since Google's new stuff only works on 2.2.
I'll try to find time to download all the APKs from the various phones and see what's different. If you want to speed things up, send me links to all of them.
All I have is the APK file from the above posted link and I believe I have the original droid x apk for skype as well but it appears it is more then just the single skype file.
I have sent a pm to the creator in hopes he/she will share their secrets as to what has to be done to make this work.

Yeah, I thought we wern't supposed to share swype apks on here though, so I was wanting the original one from the droidx as well as the evo in addition to the one in the post you linked to. I can of course get the Vibrant one from my phone. Let me know if the other devs answer you and I'll try to help out.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/0...ent-on-samsung-galaxy-s-and-motorola-droid-x/
Does the i9000 have it? Maybe we can borrow their version?
Well.. what do you know? That EVO one works! Instructions..
backup your existing swype, just in case.
adb pull /system/app/Swype.apk swype-backup.apk
Change your keyboard to a different one, I just switched to the Android keyboard.
adb push swype-evo-tts.apk /system/app/Swype.apk
Now change back to swype. Mic button is now there and it works!
bug/oddness: The pop-up that shows you suggestions is now yellow with light text, it's damn hard to read some of them.
This fixes the word choice window to not be yellow anymore. I used the stock graphics files from the Swype that came with our phones.
Metamorph required, market.
Couldn't make this work no matter what I tried. Your directions were very good but they just didnt seem to work. I sent you a PM let me know what else to try.

Are you using vlingo for the voice button? I haven't tried to do that, it just brings up google's voice input app.

You have to put them in the swype.apk. did you load it in metamorph? It's not an update.zip that you flash in recovery.
The screen looks the same as googles so maybe it interfaces with it but yes I hit the mic from the keyboard and speak and it works. I know it is somehow interfaced to vlingo as if I turn on filtering so I cant swear in vlingo setup then send a nasty text it filters it out. If i turn off word filtering in vlingo it sends the bad words.

Ok I am clueless no idea how to make my own apk and not loaded metamorph. Any chance I could get you to prebuild it into a single apk for me?
If not then a link to the process or a step by step would be much appreciated.
I am looking into using Skype with a bluetooth headset; however, when I make a call to anyone including the "test/echo" number the call is dropped "Call Failed" as soon as the other person answers. Has anyone experienced this or found a work around?
What ROM do you run?
I run CM7 from SD and skype hung on first screen.
I don't have any Bluetooth connected.
Beta starts fine, have nothing to test it with tho
If you don't run it already - get it from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908479&highlight=skype&page=3
Nat... I get the same call dropped.
The new skype is not "hung". There is a barely visible button right behind the taskbar on bottom. Click it n u will be able to continue.
I have same problem

I have done zero looking into this. But I do know that without 'voice capable' enabled in the framework-res, google voice and the like don't work for Nexus 7. With that changed it does.
If you have working headset audio, well I would try that next.
Edit: Here. I ran it though the auto-patcher. This allows the N7 to use Google Voice, it may do nothing for your project.
Thanks I took a look into it and didn't get much luck. Good news is that I found an alternative. Oovoo works with the nook color so I can see my friends video even though they can't see me. Thanks for the support guys.

Well usually I would tell you to just use the auto-patcher, but I haven't modified it for 4.2 yet. But that update is almost done. If this turns out too be useful to you guys the I will let you know for the future.
For right now, you will either need to be building from source, or have the latest apktool that works on Jellybean apps. Look at iBotPeaches' apktool thread, paulobrien submitted a patch that lets that work.
Decompile the framework-res.apk:
Code:
apktool if framework-res.apk
apktool d framework-res.apk
The first command installs the framework files ( reference material for apktool), usually not strictly necessary for custom ROMs but still a good idea just in case.
From there it is easy. Go to framework-res.out/core/res/red/values/books.xml and look for the boolean value "voice-capable" and change it to 'true'. You may end up enabling the Dialer as well, which you can uninstall, i believe.
Code:
apktool b framework-res.out framework-res.apk2
The above will recompile, remember to use an archive manager (7zip or something) to look inside the original framework-res.apk and move anything to framework-res.apk2 that is missing. Retitle your new apk to framework-res.apk and flash through a zip or install with adb.
Now, with a microphone, you should have VOIP calls through Google Voice, GrooveIP and the rest.
Edit: This post was updated with recompile instructions. I am not at home and wrote this off the top of ,my head, so let me know if something isn't working as expected maybe I have made a mistake. But it looks right. This mod will be in the auto-patcher for 4.2 pretty darn soon, to make it easier for everyday users.
Edit2: I just saw the post in your pm says 'Rooted HD+ running CM10" which means you can use the publically available version of the Auto-patcher and test this easily, with a restore.zip made.

Thanks, will try the setting change. I want to change the framework-res on the stock HD+ which is ics. But I can try manually editing the apk.
Edit: I did edit it successfully but it did not fix my fc problem on the HD+ and GV. Thanks though.

Skype Call
I don't know if this helps but I just made a Skype call where they could hear me and I could hear them using a 7.1 Channel USB External Sound Card Audio Adapter I got off Amazon for like $4 so I don't know if a Bluetooth Dongle would help with getting a headset to pair and work but I am going to try that next but even if it does not work I can still use a computer headset and call people

I've used skype a few times on my tablet, I've never had a problem with the video, the video seems to be the only thing that works pretty flawlessly for me. In all honestly I think the app its self has the problems and its not the xoom/software on the xoom.
The issues i've had mostly deal with my Bluetooth headset and skype. Sometimes it will send ringing to the headset, then it'll disconnect from the headset and put the actual call through the speakers, sometimes It wont even go that far. Once it actually let me complete a call with the headset but that only happened once. The other issue I had was Skype didn't want to let me accept a call from one of my friends. I could send calls but not accept. So I think the app its self is just borked.
Hello
Skype works fine till you update it from the market. This update seems to mess it up for alot of people myself included. You need to uninstall it and find a previous version and side load that.

Hello all,
Seen a few discussions after a quick google with skype, as I've been having problems with skype too! Video just drops as soon as I start a conversation. I've put it down to the app, as the same thing happened on my HTC Sensation!
Hopefully it'll resolve with an update! Fingers crossed!
It's the latest update that breaks it. Try using the one I've attached to this post.
Had to attach it as ZIP since the APK is over 8MB. Just unzip and install the APK.

After you've downloaded it, use a file manager (like file expert) to navigate to download in sdcard (your internal storage) and inside of the download folder, find the file you want to install, and then click on it. You should be given a choice to install apk or run package installer, choose whatever will install and you're go to go.
And don't forget to ignore updates until a new one comes along.
I hope everyone that's had issues has left a negative review on the market....
Thanks for this, I had the same issue. Installed the APK above. It gave me an error saying I needed to reinstall, but I let it uninstall itself, then went back in to EZ installer and installed it again and it was fine :S
If it has a keylogger I will hunt you down etc etc ...
Wonderful I will try installing this work around. Thanks guys, bought the xoom for xmas present for my wife to skype her brother and family in South Africa and video calls with Skype app would not work. Xoom itself is great quality bit of kit.
Hello. Recently I bought a LG G2 than I updated it by Update Center. Now when I want to use a Skype mostly its not working.
When I call somebody I see his name on the top, but the screen is like a gradient background with nothing on it, and after that i see my wallpaper and its coming again to the skype contacts list. When somebody calls me, and I answer the call sometimes I see the previous scenario, but instead of the "wallpaper" I see the normal skype window during the call. I can hear the people, but they cannot hear me, also we see each others on the cams, but nobody can hears me. Only once a hundreds tries they can hear me properly.
I dont have an idea what is wrong. My phone is not rooted, bought it 1 week ago. And I think problem is not the hardware, but software. Hangouts are working fine, but not everybody has it. My software version is D80220d-EUR-XX.

Hi ,
i try this solution and it's still now working , you can help me ?
I have a question, and i wonder if its only me or everyone
With notifications settings set at NO popup in whatsapp, i still get my whatsapp msgs poping up while screen on.
The only feature i see is silencing them via Android notifications controler "by long pressing the notification from the notification slider"
But this will completely mute the notification, only icon showing on top bar with no sound or vibration.
I just want to stop the popup, and i think this is a problem in whatsapp handling the notifications with Android N
I didn't have any of these problems in my previous s7edge or note7 or opo3, hence the assumption..
Did anyone face this? If yes, any solution?
Note: i emailed whatsapp, but useless, no helpful answer, only the common reply email.
I would really appreciate the experts help here..
I have the exact opposite problem. I go into notifications and choose pop ups to show and they don't. I have chosen pop up to be shown when screen is on/off....or all the time, none of the choices work.
Same problem found a solution yet?

Just preform this command using adb
adb shell settings put global heads_up_notifications_enabled 0
This will stop all peek (headsup) at a global level, all apps.. That was the only way for me (when i used LG and Huawei) since they have limited settings options on that aspect.
Assuming that you know how to preform this command, if not, just search in the forum and you will find out how to do so. This doesn't affect ur phone by any mean, no need for it to be unlocked or rooted or anything, it's just a shell command.. To reverse it, just change the 0 to 1 and done with the same command line..
