Hello
Im using LCD Density 185 and everything is looking better, but some apps gets crazy but I only thing that I think is most annoying is the camera app and the icons, is it possible to make the camera app look as good as it does when using standard LCD Density of 240?
thanks!
Have you tried spare parts from market

yes if you mean when remove the check from Compatibility Mode... when using CyanogenMod 7 the camera app still looks good, but when using the built in camera app from LG, Samsung etc the camera app goes crazy when changing the LCD Density.
bump!
im using the lcd density at 200 and the camera app and some other apps get weird, but i really like how it looks and im using ADW launcher ex so now im using 6x6 on the home screens and everything looks great exept for some apps
Why bump this for telling how you like it.

sorry, it was for finding a fix for the camera app and the dialer that arent resizing to the new lcd density
If the value is set below 182 , camera app will force close.
This is the lowest u can go if u want a functioning camera.
I'd be interested in knowing if the camera app can be modded to work ok on other LCD density's.
I love cognition rom at 200-220 but the camera app is the only problem as the icons are misaligned but the functionality of the app is great
I too am interested in this as i am on Cognitions rom and the camera app is a bit jumbled up on 200dpi. Also I cannot download the paid for lcd density app as it says my device is not compatible. I am using the free one but it resets with every reboot. Any ideas?

Root explorer, navigate to system, mount system r/w then edit build.prop.
Scroll down to ro.sf.lcd_density=240, change the 240 to whatever. I run 200.
Hit menu button, save, the original will be saved with .bak and reboot. Permanent density change

Did a quick search and didnt see it posted.
Changing it from 240 to 200 looks good on these like it did on the captivates. This is a sweet spot I feel for looks and without causing issues.

did you have any problems with the dialer? people reported it crashing when changing the density (but most were changing it to be HIGHER)
shiiiiit didnt try that...
ok yeah thats not cool.. damnit it looks soo good like this too.
looks like Ill be playing around and researching other moto phones to see if theres a sweet spot that works maybe something weird like a 203 or some crap
and yes everyone if you go back to stock all is well
dialer2 from market (free) works well when changing density
Thanks for the feedback. Im going to add it to the list of root apps found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099846

Smaller number means higher resolution. Make sure to use small increment changes when testing. its mostly a personal preference type thing. I think the Atrix screen looks great, much better overall than the Cap. Hold any two screens next to eachother and look at different images and you will see how different screens look better or worse depending on what your viewing. Me and my buddy had fun pitting my Atrix against his G2x just surfing though google images. Warmness softness sharpness density Screen type, many thing influence the image quality. In the end its up to your eye to decide what looks best to you.

I figured it out
the phone looks much better imo
still didn't get the new apk to work. wouldn't install and it won't launch if it put it in the system/app folder
Here is a nice way to change your screen resolution, Download LCDDensity for root:
https://market.android.com/details?id=lv.n3o.lcddensity&feature=search_result
and set it to 150. The only problem is that some apps that only run on 800x480 resolution appear to be a quarter of the screen. I wonder if there is a way to fix this, because this would be an awesome default for our screens.
Don't go too far below that, your rom may not boot and you might loose appdata, the safest I dared to go was 150, and the highest is 300, but 300 sucks, its so big
Yeah I stopped using it because of apps and dialer was a bit off using it.. I don't think there is a fix yet

I don't see the point. Actual pixel density is a property of the hardware (read: unchangeable), so why tell everything running on your phone that you have a higher density?

I can now fit more on my home screen. I can now see more facebook lol, I like how my maps are now. Idk, to each their own.
Did you try it out?

The Only Problem with this is the notification bar does not scale to the whole screen, the market doesn't work and the phone is quarter size. If you uninstall and reinstall the apps that didn't work, they should work fine. I wonder if a developer could fix these problems or make a ROM that supports this "change of resolution".
Everything is ok for me, but market fc and that kills it for me. If a market can somehow be modded to work for it I'd run it fulltime.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
240 is the default for our phones. I generally run 200 most of the time, but certain games like PewPew will crash eventually. The Market does not force close on me at 200, but I haven't tried any other resolutions. I'm running Syndicate 1.1 btw.
I changed my screen density to 160 after installing CM9 by editing build.prop. Now, I can't get it to go back to 240 when I want to download/update apps from the market. I can edit and save build.prop and it shows that my settings have saved in the file, but nothing I do can get it to revert back. What am I doing wrong?

Yes, I did that. In fact, I rebooted multiple times. I even left the setting at 240 and cleared my market data to see if I could just trick it into thinking I was using a supported screen density. It still won't let me download/update most apps. The problem also persisted after I upgraded from Alpha1 to Alpha2.

Yeah, I had originally used the LCD Resolution app, but it wouldn't work. I just tried it again now and it still won't work. This app doesn't seem to even be able to change build.prop which is why I ended up trying to change it manually.
Also, I mistyped, my current density is set at 190, not 160, for those of you wondering why I'm still getting Market incompatibility messages at a supported resolution.
I just tried using LCD Density Modder and it worked. I would like to know what it does that the other app, and editing build.prop manually didn't do, if anyone knows.

That was a typo, I meant 190. Although I tried 160 with the Font set to huge and it wasn't too bad.
Just reflash the rom. It'll reset the dpi

I kinda like 180 but dialer crashes when you make a call. What is everyones favorite density? 190? looks like 183 is there lowest you can go without the dialer crashing.

I don't think 160 is too small at all, it was my default on CM7, it also clears up a lot of Market incompatibilities, and gives the tablet interface for some apps (Netflix)... But it crashes the dialer and task switcher on CM9.
182 is the lowest possible in CM9, unless you don't want to use the task switcher or make/receive phone calls.
After adjusting the lcd density From 213 default to 175, I can't scroll past 30 apps or so in the market. It just stops, as opposed to having hundreds of choices.
Also, searching for apps I know exist, don't appear.

you break market by running a non standard density. You can find modified market apks or directions on how to do it yourself here at xda, so don't feel like you have to buy an app to do that.

This app does work on other devices but do not use this app on your nexus 7, the current version soft-bricks your nexus and you have to flash the stock image from google and lose everything. maybe a future version will work but this will not help you. (no fault of yours to suggest this!)
I am having the same problem with market
AND the copy and paste bar wont appear after lowering <= 175

Dear all,
I have been trying to adjust the lcd density by editing the build.prop, but somehow changing the value does not seem to have any effect. I also tried wiping the cache and dalvik cache via twrp after applying the build.prop edit, but still no luck.
My previous experiance with non samsung devices was just editing the build.prop and making a reboot to acheive the result.
Any ideas?
Many thanks

Ok. Answering myself. Seems the build.prop has the density value listed twice. Once i changed it in both instances then all went ok. Btw, imho 160 dpi looks way better

You mean you set both 160, I also noticed that the density value listed twice too, because I am thinking of switching my Tab 3 7.0 to PhoneUI. Phone, Contacts, Messages & Email in TabletUI are annoying. The column for names of peoples in portrait mode is too small.
Yup. Switched both to 160. Now it looks like this

Another nice thing i discovered is that the multi window thing now opens apps in floating popups rather the the split screen. Afaik this is the way its done on the bigger screen tabs.
The downturn of this is that you cannot drag the windows around the screen and cannot resize those.
Could it possibly be that someone has an idea of how to port the functionality from the eg 10.1 model?
Could assume that this might take a replacement of the flashservice apk by another one.
What do you ppl think?

hi, i just rooted my tab3 8inch and installed xpose framework and app setting module,
from here you can set per app DPI setting instead of change the whole DPI.
i have notice that Gmail and G+ app look awesome with 160 DPI and 800x1280 DP
Hi. And thanks for the heads up. Though i am fully aware of the xposed app settings, but i do preferr the whole system at 160 dpi seems to make a much better use of the screen real estate...
What i was wondering was if its possible to port the multi window where you can actually drag windows around the screen that ive seen in a review of a bigger tab 3...

Well for the android there are some standard dpi's like 160, 240, 360, 480 are the ones i can remeber...
Most of the apps should support all of these, but no guarantee for the samsung stuff. For me 160 is the daily driver and i use xposed with the app setting plugin for the things that look weird
Sent from my C6603 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Ive been fumbling around a little bit and found out that 188 dpi looks best for me as it keeps the text a little bit bigger. Im also using the xposed mod to setup individual apps to my liking as playstore and youtube to large screen tablet ui. Couldnt find a dpi for the gallery to always display the thumbnails without cutting a bit of the right side margin. Thx for your help.

Im on the 7" (210R) and edited the line I would think is necessary (lcd.density.etc - as usual with minor changes only for different types). Their is not 2 lines in this one, but their is one. Changed, fixed the permission set back, guess I cant fix permissions in Philz Touch 5, and thats weird. It was originally 240, now 160, and i see no difference. lol Havnt done the xposed route yet with this, but I would only use that for some apps to change either back or to a different dpi. Its very odd.

That's how I edited it, and actually screwed it up. Had to make a flashable build.prop to get back to normal. I guess their are issues with these tablets and editing build.prop. made a flashable build.prop with 160 dpi to no avail.
