Nope it doesn't but there is a much simpler way and it lets you keep your warranty.
I see you are with Rogers. You can try talking to them sometimes they give you the unlock code for free if you are a good customer.
If that doesn't work you will need to buy the unlock code from somewhere. Here is an example http://www.cellphoneunlock.net/ I believe they are $8
after they email you the code you must enter into your Xperia play. Here is a video of how it is done.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDFfP2Q7YXg
And there you have it a sim-unlocked xperia play with warranty and this unlock will never go away not even if you flash the phone.
Note: If your main reason to sim-unlock is to open the bootloader then I'm sorry this won't be able to do that.

Is it really that easy to unlock the vibrant?

I was told that if i root the phone and then install busybox and Galaxy_S App that my phone would be unlocked? would this work for att and when i go to brazil?
For a while there was galaxy unlock app that worked for me and others (and not for some). It only required root to use and it would spit out your unlock code.

I've used that app on a friends phone who went out of the country. It couldn't find the unlock code, but I used the second option and it patched a folder. It worked great. Unlocked in seconds. VERY EASY.

Just call T-Mobile and ask for a code?
So what's the way to unlock it? Thanks!

You get an unlock code (from t-mobile or hacked) put a foreign sim card (at&t works) reboot phone. It'll ask for code. You put the code in and it's unlocked.
What is the way hacked? The phone has no service atm
yes it is,just follow the instructions carefully
No you need to unlock it ,If you go Brazil or other country means you need to unlock your samsung Vibrant Phone,After unlock it use with any GSM Network Sim card.I haven't used that Apps Unlocking,You can better get the unlock code from the site
Theunlockarena.com/samsung/rs13wp8/ and unlock SAMSUNG VIBRANT.
Get SGS Unlock from the Market. The free one might work (for me it didn't), but the one that is not free got the job done.

[Q] Bootloader Unlock on Sim Unlocked Rogers XPlay

So it's common knowledge by now that the Rogers Xperia Play cannot be bootloader unlocked due to the sim lock on it. I recently bought one and Sim Unlocked it for use on the Fido network.
Is there anything else stopping me from using the bootloader unlock or am I safe to do it now?

dont worri the Play has only been out a month or two, once the dev scene kicks off, there will be other ways to unlock your bootloader

People with bootloader unlock allowed:no [how to unlock it] (GSM ONLY NOT CDMA!!!)

Hi people I didn't know whether to post this in the android development forum so I posted it her.
Soooooooo.......... For people that are confused when they dial in *#*#7378423#*#* and they find out that it says boot loader unlock allowed:no.
I am just going to clarify a few things. Don't worry its not the end of the world you can still unlock your bootloader. thats the good news. The bad news is that it will require you to pay some money. You are probably having this problem because:
a) Your phone is sim locked
b) You are using the R800at or R800X if so then get out of this forum!!!!!!!!
So to solve this problem you will have to sim unlock your xperia play although, you MUST use a software that uses the phone's testpoint to sim unlock the phone e.g. Omnius any other unlocking method used that does not use the phone's testpoint will NOT work.
Once you have done that taaa daaaa!!!! now when you go into the service menu it should say bootloader unlock allowed.
Although your not done yet, now you will have to unlock your bootloader this is FREE to do in fact sony ericcson offers the instructions how to do it themselves. Here is the link to the instructions:
unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions
Since i'm a new member xda not letting me put in any hyperlinked links.
Make sure you know the risks of unlocking it!!!!! Enjoy!!!!!!!!!

No i'm just saying this because the requirements to unlock the bootloader on the se website says make sure it says boot loader unlock allowed: yes
I haven't tried using fastboot or anything this was just for people that were stuck here in unlocking their boot loader i was just sharing that it changes to yes when you take off the sim lock and i know it is possible to unlcok the bootloader of it even though it says its not the steps i have given does unlock the bootloader as i myself have tested it on my friend's o2 locked phone.
On my phone it says
Rooting Status:
Bootloader unlocked allowed: Yes
so do i have to pay money to unlock it or what?
I'd like to try and root it.
My phone was originally locked to O2, I got it sim unlocked from them and i still have bootloader unlock allowed:no ...
You have to do TEST POINT METHOD!
This Unlockes your Sim lock i think as well as fastboot which you need to unlock,
sim locked phones are branded and have Blocked Fastboot with a Unknown Patch the Bypass is test point method however you Must Not ever Update VIA PC companion or OTA Doing so = a brick.
If you want to pay up the money go to Aljendrissimo he has proven 12,000+ people with SE phones Bootloader Unlocked with OTA fix ans Pc companion which means you can have the ICS update but its got the sony suite

If it says bootloader unlock allowed:yes then you don't need to pay to unlock your bootloader just go to the link I put up and follow the instructions.
Also,on the other comments yes this does indeed has to be done through test point method which is very easy many sites do this, I used cellunlocker.net's se unlocking software to unlock mine. I also checked yes by doing the testpoint method it also, gives you the option to unlock the bootloader I do recommend omnius because you can by a android unlock liscense for just 10 pounds but to clarify you DO need your sim unlock to be done through test point so you can be able to unlock the bootloader

What would be nice to know is how to unlock fastboot if your already sim unlocked.
I can understand paying for simunlock but paying for a fastboot unlock while i am already sim unlock would be double dipping.

It has been broken down for you on the first page, if you do use the test point method then you can't do OTA updates which means, you can't officially update your play when offical updates come out but it's not all bad as you will be able to flash the offical update with a FTF with the flash tool. It is recommended to use the test point method.

No I don't think that is true because you cannot do OTA updates only if you have a locked boot loader i'm not sure where you got your info from mate but i'm pretty sure all the test point method does is sim unlock your phone and does something to make the bootloader unlock possible and that is what I m trying to find out- what it does to make the bootloader show yes .
I have confirmed with various trusted sources if you are still able to update even if you are sim unlocked with test point and they are saying yeah only if you haven't unlocked the bootloader.

i think 12 euros...
i also have unlocked it with omnius.
when u will do this, also unlock bootloader with it.
after that you alway need the omnius client to flash custom kernel, flashtool will never work again.
You only need to buy a "single android unlock licence"
Or phone your network provider and ask them to unlock it, and you can still use flashtool to do stuff

If you can unlock your bootloader just do it and then flash one of the roms we have available in our community.
If by any chance a message about "insert sim lock code" appears on boot just ignore it and then disable it on the network settings of your X8.
Voilá, "unlocked" at no cost.

[Guide] Unlocking bootloader on operator branded phones via omnius

Hi all,
If you have a locked bootloader on a branded phone (for example, from Rogers) normal BL (bootloader) unlocking methods will not work. Fortunately, there is a way to unlock your bootloader - it will, however, cost money.
I have a very good experience with Omnius. The program is simple and fast, and the whole process of unlocking the bootloader took less than 3 minutes. Here is how I did it:
go to Omnius downloads, and download Omnius for SE.
Install it. The installation includes all the drivers you need for this process.
Now you need to purchase credits. You can use any of the re-sellers listed here. I personally used GSMServer single unlock licence for 19 USD.
After about a day, you will get an email with username and password. This is your new Omnius account that has enough credits for one unlock. (I am not sure if it is only for BL unlock or also for SIM unlock.. It definitely works for BL unlock though.)
1. Now start Omnius. In the upper left corner choose your SE model.
2. In the server settings, enter the username and password you got from the reseller of your choice.
3.Next click on "Unlock", and select "Unlock bootloader". A picture guide appears that is super easy to follow - it tells you where the test point is, what to do, what to press, when to remove battery, everything. Few seconds later, your bootloader is unlocked!
Hope this worked for you guys!!
(I am in no way affiliated with Omnius, or any resellers listed on their website. I am simply summing up my experience, as I know that BL unlocking for branded phones is a bit of a problem. I hope I did not break any XDA rules by posting a guide involving a paid service!)
Does it void warranty ?
Sent from my LT15i using xda premium
Yes it does. But I should have mentioned - this method LEAVES ALL DRM UNTOUCHED, so that by simply relocking BL nobody can find out you did anything with your phone I had my phone in repair 3 times, every single time with unlocked bootloader. I had no problem so far
I just rooted. Does it void warranty instead ?
Sent from my LT15i using xda premium
Rooting doesn't void your warranty. Only unlocking your bootloader voids it.

Does this require any special cable to be used for the test point method? I have seen people just use a paperclip but then I have also seen people use a cable attached to their USB cable, so I am not 100% sure on what I need to use.

Ah that's great! thanks one other question, is it the same method for the arc s? is this method done 100% by me and not by someone connected to my computer? like I have seen some people do.
So what do I need to do specifically to unlock it? Will I have to open my phone up or do I just plug my USB cable in? Also will it be unlocked for good? If I update or downgrade firmwares will it remain unlocked?

I think I can answer the last two questions but someone correct me if im wrong xD you need to open up a tab on the back of the phone underneath the sim card holder to reveal "test points" you will then use them to put your phone in a certain mode which allows you to unlock the boot loader. im also sure that the boot loader if separate from the firmware so once you have unlocked it then it is unlocked for good. im not 100% sure how to do it though because I have seen so many different ways and its just got me confused haha.

Hmm I am not sure. I think you need also some credits for the unlocking.
my xperia arc s ic carrier branded (sim lock) and in service meni is bootloader unlock allowed: no ... can i unlock my bootloader with omnius without sim unlocking it and will i have enabled fastboot
Yup, that's what this does. It will unlock the bootloader on your phone.
Btw I feel that you should have fastboot working even now without unlocking.
why do you feel this
Further unlocks
Hi there,
I have one question.
I have read a lot of threads about unlocking the bootloader of branded phones, and I haven't found an answer for this question.
Let's say I buy my credits and all, and then I go and unlock the bl, wonderful, but then let's say that I need to send my phone to warranty. So I lock the bl again. Then my phone comes back and I want to unlock the bl again, do I need to buy credits to do it again? Or will the credits I bought on the first time will suffice for the same phone over and over?
Thanks btw for this thread, helped a lot.
Thank you!
