Enable shutdown.video - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there anyway to enable shutdown video to play when you power off your phone? Also is there a way to have a sound file play with it. The vibrant supported both of these so I'm hoping the mytouch 4g supports this as well

Sense ROMs have it by default.

MIUI will let you customize both the boot animation and the sound at boot not sure about shut down though. Try a miui rom out its awesome

haven't seen anything about a shutdown video. sounds like a good idea. Royalginger 2.0 enables the ound for you and gives you the options of changing the anime, changing the sound, and turning on/off the sound and anim via terminal emulator. much better than adb method or file explorer method.

TouchWiz won't stay on by default!

Randomly when I hit the home buttn I am prompted with the option touchwiz or home. I can pick either on while checking the load default and it still asks again a few min later. What am I missing?

That's a first, never had that happen.
Have you recently installed any User interface programs like ADW launcher or launcher pro?
How about any programs in general.. please be a little more specific.
Welcome to the forums!
It only happens to me when I hold the home botton and bring up the task manager. When I hit the home botton again it prompt me to choose the launcher.

Try getting home switcher from the market and tell it to set touchwiz home as you default. See if that works.
I Will try and load my appbrain list but no to launchers. Just goole stuff and a couple widgets.

I can't post links yet so check out appbrain user: ErlyD I have no launcher apps and I did try that home launcher app recommended. But still have the problem.

Sgs tools and you go to the bottom menu and choose which launcher you want and bam! Launcher is set to default. I'm using 2.2 quantum and confirm it works.

Does my epic have to be rooted? I ran the app and set it yet still get the problem. It randomly asks when I hit home. Each time I set default then select touchwiz.

Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I'm having this same issue!
I tried Home Switcher and Home Manager...same exact symptoms.

Download sgs tools from market. Install. Go to bottom menu upgrade stock apps, then choose laucner you want and follow instructions from there, easy fix.

Edit: this only works on rooted phones, I'm sorry if I miss read the problem.
Bottom option is:
.prop editor

I've looked over SGS Tools, over and over again. I do not understand where the option to make this fix is.
Could you give more specific instructions? Thanks!

Same here only .prop editor do we have to be rooted? To use this correctly?

I think I got a fix. I went to manage apps and cleared defaults on touchwiz but also cleared tw data. It sucked cause my icons and everything else I took the time to setup cleared but after rebuilding it seems to be working. Been about an hour now and the menu hasn't popped up.

Sorry guys I must have been way too blazed I swear I read that you guys had the froyo beta and had this problem, as I did have this issue. But it seems some of you are dealing with this on stock, without root and this will only work if you have root.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I believe that this issue is related to the installation of a certain application. As a matter of fact, I uninstalled several applications after going on a few downloading sprees (yeah, I get bored and have money burning a hole in my PayPal account) in hopes of fixing the issue, to no avail.
Otherwise, could it possibly be related to a glitch caused by setting a certain number of icons or widgets on the homescreen, causing the launcher's data to interfere with its default settings?
Either way, I took ErlyD's advice, cleared the data, and will rebuild my homescreens in hopes it won't happen again. Or else I will figure out what causes it.

I would love to follow his advice, but TouchWiz isn't listed in my manage applications list...what the heck!
Actually, none of the stuff that came installed is listed....nascar, amazon, etc.
Where do I find these?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Okay...found it via running programs.
Cleared data.
Didn't solve my problem.
Crap.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
It failed. Sorry for the trouble it lasted longer than before though. I went a few hrs before it popped up. I am going to have to start uninstalling apps to see what happens.

Where did my files go !?!?!?!

Ok so I just bought the evo shift from sprint and its been working great. I have over 500 songs and lots of pictures et cetera and I've been playing them all the time. This morning however I tried to play some music and it says music not found. Same thing with pics and vids. Apps saved on the card are fine. If I use astro and select a pic or mp3 it will open and play. Just not from any music players or photo viewers. Any ideas?
Edit: also a new development. I forgot to mention that I have clockwork mod recovery installed. And it won't let me turn my phone off. I power off and it automatically boots to recovery. Quite irritating.
Also I should probably mention that I am running my shift stock. No custom roms. Only thing I've done is root it using amoamares gui root method and the only root app I have is cache cleaner ng.
1. Not sure about your music.
2. That is a known issue with the recovery.
Ah I see I well I guess ill try getting rid of the recovery and go from there.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
You might try copying them to your computer, making a new music folder on the sd card and moving them back.
Try moving your pics to the download folder and see if they show up.
What device are you coming from?
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA Premium App
You don't have .nomedia files in those folders do you? Just throwing out possibilities.
^ Shift Faced
After a little file snooping I discovered a .nomedia file on the root of my SD card ;p problem solved lol . Thanks for the help. Also in regards to my other problem - the forced recovery menu - anybody know if there is another safe recovery I can use?

HTC Desire HD Default Icons

Hi I have dhd but when installing apps then transfering them to the memory card, when having custom folders on the home screen restaring the device causes the icons to show as the standard default android icons. Is there anyway of making keep the original app ones?
Thanks
I have the same issue as well.

I have found a solution that although it works for me is perhaps not ideal.
If you change the 'skin' to something other than the one you are using, this seems to sort the problem. You can then change back to your original.
The only other thing I had to do was to then change the wallpaper back to what I wanted, but this does not make any difference to the solution.
Let me know if this works for you.

This issue is not that simple. Even if the phone is on for days, the icons don't change. Even selecting them to open the app makes no difference.
The only way I can resolve this issue is to do what I said in my previous post. I have also found that if HTC Sense has to force close and restart, then the correct app icons appear.

good tip changing skin..
Changing the skin works..

[Q] Quicker booting

On the Wildfire S you can chose a power setting called "Quick Boot". This makes it boot up in less than 15 seconds!
Can we get this on our wildfires?
Unlikely, at best
EDIT: It seems, "Hot Reboot", provided in some Sense ROM's, provides this functionality. I have not tested it personally, and, I have no idea about the actual improvements it gives, but the concept seems the same.
Description here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792542
Also, on further digging into this topic there are a lot of apps in the Market which claim to do this. Just do a search for "Hot Reboot"
I think all that hot reboot does is close all the apps...

And restart Android System Server Process. Essentially a reboot.
lol, now I wish I had tried this out when I was on Wildpuzzle.
Hotboot works in CM7 terminal emulator

Shame its only a reboot rather than standard boot up

Wonder whether i could pull a s few apks of wildfire S roms and install settings?
What ones would i need?
How did you verify that the Wildfire S Quick Boot is a "Standard Bootup"?
normal mooting
normal mooting is good then quick booting
Well the "quick" startups that the newer phones have aren't actually startups.
All it does if you turn of the phone is put it into hibernation.
It will take a long time to boot if you battery pull.

[REQUEST] 4.3 Remove Capacitive Buttons

Hi, I'm running Slim 4.3 Build 1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2393971) on my lcd version nexus s and really like the on screen buttons included with the rom. Is there any way to remove the back light from the capacities buttons and stop them vibrating?
Thanks
If you download Nexus S Tools from the Play Store, you can disable the capacitive lights, and there's a file somewhere in system/usr that has the keycodes for the capacitive buttons (you'll know what file it is when you see it, there's like 4 lines for back, home, search, and menu). What you gotta do is put a # in front of each line and reboot, then the capacitive buttons will be disabled.

To edit the file, download a file explorer (ES File Explorer is what I use) and enable "root explorer" then go into settings and make sure /system is set to "R/W" (there's a little check box somewhere).
From there go into /system/usr/keylayout/cypress-touchkey.kl and open it as text. Then put a # in front of every line that doesn't have one and then reboot

Do you know if there's a similar procedure to remove also the backlight??
I'd like to keep them always off without changing kernel or rom, i'm on 4.1.2 stock.

As long as you have root, NSTools is always my go-to option since its designed for this phone specifically, so I'd give that a whirl. I don't know exactly what file controls the backlight so I can't help you there

I already tried NStools, but it require a modified kernel to edit the capacitive keys backlight.
Thank you anyway
^Same, I'm trying NStools but I don't thin the kernal is letting me do much. Any recommendations on a good krnal to flash with slim?
Marmite that comes with slim rom is good. I have disabled the back lights using that and nstools in the past. But often they would flicker if you touched them which bugs me.
In the settings somewhere you should be able to disable the hardware keys without altering any system files. I am not on that rom anymore so I can't tell you exactly where!
Ended up using nstools + disabling vibration
esexplorer is pretty complicated
Thanks for the help everybody
