This is actually relevant to more than just the Thunderbolt. It fixes Superuser problems with numerous newer Sense releases.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=886999
My su binary is already being provided via the root thread but the matching Superuser is not. Without the matching patched Superuser, you'll see FCs when apps request root if the Superuser app itself is open.
Just apply the update zip from the aforementioned thread to fix it. ROM builders should use my patched version as well.
Please update to this, I will be fixing the tutorial as soon as I can, and noting it here.
Rafi, good to see you on the bolt. Looks like we will get a virtuous Rom too. Ran your Rom on the inc till I got run over by the desire z, hd craze.

Hmm, not sure if I should do this. I ran fix permissions in Rom Manager and it seemed to take care of all the problems. Everything's been working fine since then. What do you guys suggest?
i see no reason to mess with it if your set up is currently working

I agree - however, in my case, nothing was solving the FC's - so I put in this SU and all is right with the world.
I think it's worth trying if all other permissions methods are failing - it certainly "feels" more stable.
This fixes su issues while the superuser app is open.
Flash it.
Thank you rmk & jcase
even aftere re rooting fix my su issue i ran this and i feel su runs wayyyyy smoother now for apps that need su.

There is simply no way any newer Sense ROM works correctly without this patched version. You *will* ultimately encounter issues.
Don't believe me, try this. Open up the Superuser app itself, connect via adb shell, su system, su root. Observe hang. This is just an example, there are numerous other ways to have the issue occur.

This was working for me until I rebooted. Once I did, everything was back to how it was.
I just applied the patch, restarted. VOILA! SU is working again. Thanks rmk40!

Thank you for the response, my newbness was the problem as there was a file on sd card that keep trying to install when trying what you mentioned above.
Still getting FC's in SU after flashing... Did I miss something?
Never mind, fixed after running a program that required root.
Thanks!

If I do the Verizon update will it "unroot" my Tab? Will it screw anything up?
Thanks.
I'm not sure, I'm rooted and when I clicked to install the update, my tab did nothing. I know that doesn't help.
Same thing happened to me, there is another thread about this and there is a post of the update file, I ran that and it worked

Yeah, I found it weird too.
I never tried from the Tab though, might work from there I guess
Update:tried from tab with Dolphin....same result as Chrome
Ok, so now it's on the Tab. How do I make the update do it's thing?
name it update.zip....put it in root of SD, reboot to recovery and choose install update.zip
At least that is what I did and it worked perfectly......do it at your own risk though.

Dumb question: How do I boot to recovery?
Turn off....hold volume up while powering on
Volume down to install update.zip and press home. (after menu comes up)
Make sure you have decently full battery or on AC
Worked! Thanks!
Still can't copy/paste from the mail program.
Update
I zipped the file so it should be easier to dl. Try this link. If you are going to rename it unzip it first, then rename. It was originally a htm file in my cache folder but as above some have had success renaming and flashing it. I have not tried yet myself yet as I'd like to here from people who have root and bootstrapped ext filesystem. If you do let us all know your results. Cheers.

So has anyone successfully updated that was rooted and running ext4?
Will it affect kernels or root access? If this gets rid of my of my kernel and won't allow to reflash ill be pissed! So if anyone has installed this please let me know. And if it's for the worst. Tell me how to get rid of the damn update icon!

Root was still there, and kernel build number did not change. the [email protected] did change.
I cannot guarantee that it will not affect kernel, but it did number change the build number so it suggests it did not
Hey trying to help my brother with his phone and I've never encountered this problem before.
He downloaded Rom Manager from the Market and proceeded to flash CWM.
After flashing I told him to use the "Reboot into recovery" in order to create a NANDroid back up.
His phone reboots and then gets stuck on an image of what he says is a "phone with a red exclamation mark."
I've checked with him and he says "fast boot" is off. His phone IS rooted.
Obviously this is the first time he's ever needed to use CWM.
I've never personally encountered this problem and I've rooted 10 (6 replacements for me and one for my wife, 2 for my brothers and one for their girlfriend lol.) MT4Gs and have installed custom ROMs.
If you guys have any suggestions or ideas PLEASE let me know.
Thanks a lot.
The forum search yielded some threads about turning off "fast boot" or maybe a bad flash.
I've had him reflash CWM. Still no luck.
Again, thanks for any help.
I'm assuming he's rooted right? With S-OFF? In any case, it seems that it's not sticking. One common mistake is that he might have accidentally denied the SU permissions while opening RM. So un install and re install RM and make sure you accept SU permissions.

Yeah Macky...he is rooted. I'll have him try it again. He did mention something about su.binary something or another.
I told him to update Superuser. We'll see if that helps.

Yeah try updating the latest SU and make sure he didn't deny RM. That's might be what happened. If not, try updating his CWM manually via terminal emulator, ADB or Fastboot.
Here's how to do that.
For clockwork recovery to actually work, you have to download rom manager and from within rom manager install clockwork first.
You just do not download rom manager and right away boot into recovery.

Whoa! Why don't we chill out a bit yea. I just mentioned it because some people think that just downloading rom manager and trying to boot into recovery that's how you flash the thing and get it working.
And I did read the whole thing and did read where you said rom manager got downloaded and prceeded to flash cwr. But you also stated you told your bro to press reboot into recovery. Which made me think he probably mistakenly, try booting into recovery before actually flashing it. I was just trying to cover steps to help you guys out.

A few months back I rooted my girlfriend's Impulse 4G and installed a custom ROM. I don't know the exact ROM but at the very least the boot screen says "Kalo 'Perfection'". EDIT: I believe it was this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1553705
Anyway, a few days ago apps started to crash randomly on her phone. When I reboot the phone, apps begin to crash after a minute or two of use and continue to crash more frequently until it's unusable.
I've tried: factory resetting it, uninstalling apps with adb, installing titanium backup pro with adb and uninstalling apps, clearing cache from recovery, factory resetting from recovery, restoring a backup with roadkil's, flashing a new rom, flashing a new recovery, updating to stock with the dload folder on my sdcard, and ...
no matter what I do, when I reboot the phone it always returns to the same state, unchanged.
And, long-time lurker here who registered to beg for help, of course. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Are you able to provide logcat?
I turned on the phone and let it boot for a minute, then ran logcat. Never used it before, so let me know if you need something more specific.
h t t p : / / pastebin.com/eMTJmvLZ
EDIT:
And, if it helps, when I try a factory reset from recovery I get "E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk1p2". I'm using CWMR Touch v6.0.1.0.

There is no such block as /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 in the phone. But I guess your phone is different to the normal one.
The only thing I can think is that you have probably flashed the wrong android for your phone. What Custom ROM did you flash? Can you give me a link to both the recovery and the ROM (link for where you downloaded them from).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1553705 I believe this was the ROM. I can't find the recovery at the moment but it's CWMR touch v6.0.1.0. Based on the instructions given with the ROM I'm using the wrong recovery
I am not familiar with your phone, but this might help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889305
Meanwhile, I will try to get someone who is familiar.
Unfortunately I've tried everything I can from that thread, I think. Whenever I replace the recovery.img it doesn't stick when I reboot. Same for the roadkil's image. I tried to recover the image I made before I rooted the phone but it never sticks.
I think your partitions for data and cache is incorrect or missing.

Hi.
Yesterday, I unlocked the bootloader and rooted my OnePlus 6T. I accidentally completely uninstalled Google Play. I still have the GP Services, Music, and Video on my phone, but Google Play has been completely removed. I've tried reinstalling from multiple APK sources, but every time I try to install anything, it crashes. It does not ask for permissions either. I've tried wiping my phone multiple times, but it still hasn't appeared.
Any solutions would be greatly appreciated. I could try reinstalling the OS through the same tool I used to convert it from the T-Mobile version to international. If that is the solution, then I'd appreciate if you let me know.
Thanks so much.
Have you tried the Msmtool? https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/tool-6t-msmdownloadtool-v4-0-oos-9-0-5-t3867448
Since you already said you wiped multiple times, this tool should bring your phone back to fresh out of the box factory reset. You'll have to unlock the bootloader and root again if you go this route.
How did you remove the play store anyway? Some kind of app?

Hope it works for you , I believe it should be the easiest method. I think maybe using the same root explorer you can replace the play store, but there's some extra steps like settings permissions that I'm not all that familiar with so I'd just use the Msmtool if I was in your situation.
