On every other android phone I've owned I been able to find and delete the volume up and down sound files. I hate the sounds its really pretty dumb to have sounds for the buttons. I looked everywhere using root explored and only found the sound files for camera and a few others. I went to system/media/UI and found nothing accept what I just mentioned.
Anyone know how to silence the volume keys???
+1 I too have been searching for a while now with no luck. I'm thinking they are baked into the OS?

Wither the phone is on silent/vibrate or not, the camera always makes the shutter sound. When recording a video, it always makes a bloop when you hit record and stop. There is no setting for disabling this like my previous phones have had.
Without using a third party camera app (I've seen people on other forums suggest Cool FX which is not free) is there a way to disable this?
Try searching around in the system for a .ogg file that could be the shutter sound and renaming it.

I use an app called "Volume Toggle(free)". I set a custom profile and use an on screen widget to adjust the profiles. Set the system volume to 0. This will also get rid of the DTMF tones, unlock clicks, and other UI sounds.

What app do you recommend for browsing the files? The built in one doesn't seem to do much good.

This works great, but it's a bummer I have to run a third party app to do it. It is nice however that there IS a third party app to do it.
Yeah. It was one thing that bothered me coming from BlackBerry. Every app was customizable with sound, volume, vibration, led, etc. It was great.

Could try SilentSnap:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/silentsnap-camera-free/com.blundell
Have heard some concerns, but it does work (After using it, double check your alarm volumes.. evidently the camera sound is DIRECTLY tied to the alarm volume... making an alternative solution to simply turn your alarm volume all the way down I believe...
HTH!
*Edit:
Looks like .ogg file is in /system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg
Don't know what affect it would ahve to delete it.. but you could always rename it, and then make a copy of VideoRecord.ogg (which I believe is SILENT), and rename the copy to camera_click.ogg
Should work *shrug*

What would be the best way to find that file? What app are you using to browser the phone file system?
There is actually an easier way of doing this. Here's how to have a silent camera, including the autofocus sound with no external apps or editing/renaming system files. Turn your phone to silent on the lock screen (or use the rocker to go to no sound), then go into your native alarm app and uncheck "Alarm in silent mode."
There ya go. Turn down your phones volume and you have no camera sounds. easy easy
Just remember to turn the sound back on or your alarm will not Alarm
That doesn't sound like a solution. Having to modify your sound settings everytime you want to take a picture, then again when you want an alarm to go off? I would rather someone tell me what program I can use to find the sound file and modify it.

To delete/rename the file, you'll want to use Root Explorer. This requires you be rooted, which I'm just guessing from the nature of your posts you're not (since Root Explorer is often one of the first apps someone gets when rooting).
It is rooted, I'm still figuring out what put on there as far as apps go. Looks like it's about $4.
I found a great solution. It's called SilentSnap. It disables all sound from the system when it opens it. It uses your normal camera and disables the shutter sound. Its free.

Notifications Interrupt music for about 2 seconds, then music starts again. This does not happen on Cyanogen just wondering if there is a FIX for Sense Roms.
Is there a FIX out there for this very annoying issue? I have searched and searched with diff combination of words and no answer comes up?
If you are using the standard music app, open the app, p ress settings, then you should see a lossless ducking option, enable it. Then what wil happen is that the notification will play at a quieter right through the music, so it doeesn't stop at all.
Is this for the EVO? I forgot to mention what device I had lol...I just went to the Myn Synergy RC2 ROM from CM7 ROM. I cant find this setting on it. I want a sense ROM that doesnt interrupt music, I know Myn Warm 2 Point 2 RC5 didnt do this. Thnks for your reply
put the phone on silent. the media volume remains unchanged, and the phone will vibrate your notifications and not interrupt the music.
been doin this since stock froyo, and now running synergy rls1, but works on and rom this way.
Thx for your replys guys...I put notifications on Silent for now...until Poweramp Player includes fhe option to fix this. I just wonder why CM7 and Myn Warm 2point2 dont interrupt.

Putting thebphone on silent is the on,y wat to fix it at the moment but some developers have just found way to build their rooms so that this flaw doesn't occur

I don't think it's a FLAW, but rather intended operation. When I'm listening to podcasts in DoggCatcher, it pauses while any notifications are playing. It resumes playback after the notification sound is complete, but I don't miss words in the middle like I would if it were playing the notification over top of the podcast. It really seems like it's a system feature that requests to pause currently playing media while notifications are happening, and these apps merely respect the request.
It only does it when the headphones are plugged in, without them it will not do this.

So is there nothing to do for this then since I plug my evo in through the earphonejack to listen in the car

that happens to me too. i cant find anyway to fix it. turning off the notification sound just draws a silence when i get an new email or sms.
I don't think there is a fix yet if your on a sense Rom. I went crazy reading and searching about this. The Dev of Poweramp Player will be fixing this in the next update. Def. Worth the purchase without the fix...its a major plus once he can fix this.

Hey all, newbie to the forums and didn't see a thread anywhere so I started one.
I'm running my dx with apex 2.0 and if it makes a difference, I have the tbh tether patch flashed.
Anyway, I installed the google+ app and now my phone shows incoming calls, but it does not ring out loud. However, it does ring for sms and alarms. I've narrowed it to google + app by restoring to a clockwork backup and testing it to see if it rings, and as soon as I reinstalled g+, I was again given the silent treatment on all incoming calls.
Anyone have any ideas?

I just did a test call...and I'm not experiencing the same thing.
Recently installed G+ myself.
(I'm on CM7.)
Download an audio manager or maybe check your incoming call volume in sounds?
I've no idea bud.
Thanks for the quick reply. But that's the problem i'm having is sound settings force closes on me when I try to open it . I'll try the audio manager, any recommendations?

I'm on Apex 2 RC3, I was getting DSPManager crashes a few days ago, but that's stopped since, probably due to a reboot. I'm assuming you went directly into the sound settings to verify they're correct, or is that actually what's crashing?
I had some weird issues with apex as well, I could call people but couldn't actually talk to them, I couldn't find a fix or fix it myself, it seems alot of people have random issues with apex, I don't know if its the rom itself or whether the g apps package is the issue, I ended up moving on to a different rom after I couldn't fix the phone issues as obviously I need that, I wish you luck in finding a fix

Sorry, haven't been on for a few days. But even after not installing g+, the issue has recreated itself so it looks like a titanium backup and re flash is coming tomorrow.
But to answer your question, the sounds settings is what crashes, I can't access anything within the menu.
Thanks for the replies, I'll post again if it happens after re flashing

Update: figured it out. For some reason it changed my default ringtone and would force close when I went to sound settings, but when I selected an mp3 file and set that file as a ringtone without using sound settings to do so, it seemed to clear up all my issues. Hope this helps someone

Ive seen so many posts that are old enough to be dropped but i would still love the keyboard sounds from the iphone for my phone, would anyone be able to get ahold of some or have any? i found one but the sounds were from an ipad and did not work correctly
try these
im guessing these are sound files in text format?, and thankyou! ill give them a shot
Yes, rename them as ogg, xda won't let me upload ogg format.
I'm sorry to sound like a n00b but how would I go about changing the keyboard clicking sound??
Which directory do I put the sounds in?
TIA
Edit: I found the directory and there is various sound for keyboard clicking.
Which one do I change?

You can rename it "KeypressStandard.ogg" and put it "/system/media/audio/ui/", remember to fix the permission to rw-r-r.

This is driving me nuts. I just want to turn off the annoying camera shutter sound on my GT4 7. I've tried deleting the .ogg file and I've tried editing the xml to give me a menu option to turn it off, but nothing has worked. I've also tried other camera apps and none of them have an option to turn the sound off. Is there any way to turn the shutter sound off?
I should note that I have a rooted phone and installed the custom stock ROM from the Android Development section.
Bump. Anyone?
I havent found any. The only way ive done it is muteting the tablet.
Root browser and look for that camera_shutter.ogg (I don't think it's called like that it's just a suggestion)
